iG UK: Hands on with Electric Car chargers in London

iGyaan is presently in the UK, testing of real life technology, and the first thing we bumped into as soon as we got out of the airport were these GE electric car charging posts. Its always good to talk about technology but only better to see it in real person in a country that embraces good technology infrastructure.

While its no GE WattStation , The mechanics of this one are simple, the person with a NFC tag or a Electric car tag will scan his tag in from to the charging post, which access you account and opens the door to the cable, the charging cable is then attached to the vehicle and the meter starts to run. At the end of the charge cycle the amount on the meter is charged to the NFC account or Electric car tag and you are ready to leave.

The good thing is that the UK government has installed these at various parking spaces in and around london making it easier for people with electric cars.

Honda Jazz Price Cut by 1.6 Lac

Honda India has slashed the price of the Honda Jazz by 1.6 lac. This happened only two months after the company had announced a Rs. 66 thousand price cut.

Launched in 2009 the hatchback was unable to gather buyers mostly due to its price of around 7 lakhs (ex-showroom), The company’s recent aggressive stance proves that honda is out to sell the car by any means necessary. The new Jazz has safety features like dual airbags and ABS as standard, and is comparable to similar-featured models like Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20.

It is a competitive market and competition is increasing every day”

-Jnaneswar Sen, senior V-P for Honda Siel Cars

Customers who just bought the car are in for a shock as a massive 1.5 lakh price drop will make a significant difference. The lack of a diesel model will still hamper the sales of the car, but Honda expects movements of over 1000 units / month with the new pricing.

  • We’re In, Location Sharing App from Microsoft Released for WP7

Microsoft has just outed the new “We’re In” location sharing app for Windows Phone 7 Devices. The App is free to download in the marketplace and is available now.

The App works on a time based location sharing scheme, first you invite someone to share their location and then you specify for how long the location sharing has to go on. It does bring in Location based networking features of Foursquare.

Today we’re happy to announce the release of the “We’re In” app for Windows Phone.

We’re In makes organizing get- together’s, carpooling and trying to find people in a crowd a breeze. Any time you want to see where your friends are—We’re In can help you. It’s simple, invite your friends, and when they join, they’ll see your location and you’ll see theirs. When the invite expires, so does the shared location – no complicated process to worry about.

We’re In is a great way to save time and frustration when planning your roadtrip or meeting your friend at the mall – helping you connect with your friend faster. Let’s take a closer look at the new We’re In product features and how they work.

We’ve made We’re In super simple to use – all you need is your phone number to sign up. Simply invite your friends (via your contacts) to start sharing location info with each other including who, why, and how long:

    clip_image002

Pick your friends from the contact list or enter their phone number, tell them what the plan is. At this point you can choose how long you want to share location info.

Your friends receive a text message with these details. They can use the app to join you or, for friends that don’t have a Windows Phone, they can join from the mobile website via the invite.

Seeing your friends on the map

As each of your friends joins you, their locations appear on the map. If you need to you can pan, pinch and stretch the map to see more or fewer of them. Everyone that joins can see everyone else’s location.

                                                                                                                                           clip_image004       clip_image006

You can also update your status message to let your friends know what’s going on (you’re on your way, you’re going to be late, the first round has just arrived, important stuff they need to know). To see someone’s most recent status message, just tap their user tile on the map. To see status messages for everyone that’s joined, go to the People tab.

    clip_image008

To stop sharing your location info at any time, just tap “leave” on the People tab. If you want, you can send them a status message to let them know that you’re leaving.

    clip_image010

And when the time is up, the invite expires and location sharing stops. You don’t need to do anything.

“We’re In” is available as a Windows Phone application.   We’re working on bringing this app to more devices, so stay tuned!

Nokia CEO taking not so kindly to Google – Motorola Takeover

Nokia CEO seems to have retracted his earlier statement regarding the ups of the Google’s planned takeover of Motorola Mobility. At a seminar in Helsinki the Finnish CEO quoted some misdirects at Android device manufacturers, stating that the road ahead is bumpy if the takeover goes through as planned.

If I happened to be someone who was an Android manufacturer or an operator, or anyone with a stake in that environment, I would be picking up my phone and calling certain executives at Google and say ‘I see signs of danger ahead,The very first reaction I had was very clearly the importance of the third ecosystem and the importance of the partnership that we announced on February 11, it is more clear than ever,

Health Tech : New Bionic Leg thinks and moves like a Real one

Traditional prosthetic lims are heavy and uncomfortable to the user, but thats going to change real soon. This new leg however acts and feels like a real limb, thanks to recent advances in technology. The leg was designed  and developed at Vanderbilt University the leg uses both a powered knee and powered ankle.

It also uses an advanced sensor suite to monitor the leg’s motion, momentum and position, feeding that data into processors that predict the user’s intention and react accordingly.

If it senses the user stumbling, the leg automatically lifts the foot clear of the obstacle before replanting in on the ground.

The leg also uses a new type of battery which runs 30 to 40% lighter than usual and can work for 3 days without requiring a recharge.

With our latest model, we have validated our hypothesis that the right technology was available to make a lower-limb prosthetic with powered knee and ankle joints,Our device illustrates the progress we are making at integrating man and machine.”

Micromax A70 will Run Gingerbread + Easy Fix for Video Calling on Fring

We mentioned in our review that the Micromax A70 was not upgradeable to 2.3, after we published that today, we got a call. According to our source Micromax the A70 will run Android 2.3 and there seems to be an easy way to do it. We are trying to get the process and will give a quick tutorial, possibly a video tutorial on how to go about it soon after we have tried it ourselves.

Also to make Fring Video calls, an easy fix was recommended by one of our readers. All you need to do it fire up Fring,  then quit it , open the camera and switch to the front facing camera, and then reopen Fring, Voila Video calls will now work

Note : if Video calls don’t work : jump into bring settings and make sure video calls is ticked. Thats all , we tested it and it works fine.

This however will not work on Skype, even the hacked version of Skype.
