WhatsApp Introduces New Vulcan Salute and Middle Finger Emoji

WhatsApp has introduced a couple of new emojis for its users. The new emoji includes the middle finger and the Vulcan Salute from Star Wars. Both these emoji are available in different skin tones within the app. While the middle-finger emoji seems Android-only for now, the Vulcan emoji is also supported on iOS, though it is not part of the stock emoji keyboard.

WhatsApp has recently upgraded itself and comes with a bunch of new features. Among them, is a new custom notification setting that allows you to set different notifications for the different chats you’re in or mute specific conversations entirely.

You can also mark your chats as read or unread and WhatsApp has even included an “low data” usage feature to make voice calls. This reduces the amount of data that is used during phone calls made through the app.

Apart from all of this WhatsApp has also made sharing contact information easier, by allowing you to save the information or even start a new WhatsApp message from within the app itself.

  • Facebook Brings Out its Very Own Artificial Intelligence Assistant Named “M”

Facebook Brings Out its Very Own Artificial Intelligence Assistant Named “M”

We all know about Siri, Cortana and Google Now, but yesterday our favourite social media platform, Facebook launched “M”. M is its very own text-based virtual assistant, which is also integrated with Facebook Messenger. What is different about M, is that it relies on both human and artificial intelligence to fulfill requests. This is something that both Siri and Cortana need to catch up on.

Reports suggest that there is a team of M Trainers, who are prepared and trained to fulfill requests that the artificial intelligence component cannot answer. It is also said, that as of now, the artificial intelligence does not have access to all the social data that Facebook collects and therefore has to depend on the information available through earlier conversations and follow-up questions. This however could change “with proper user consent” says Facebook’s VP of messaging products, David Marcus.

    facebook m 2

What makes M’s activities different from Siri, Cortana or Google Now? Well, an example of what it can do is this – it can allow people to get recommendations for vacations and restaurants for instance, and can also follow through with bookings or purchases.

David Marcus also added that Facebook is planning to hire thousands of M trainers in the future. This artificial intelligence assistant can be good for Facebook’s financial strength, since it can generate money via various partnerships with businesses.

The sad part is, that currently M is only available to residents of California’s Bay Area. This has been reported to be an intentional move, so as to, ensure commonality between M trainers and the people making requests. The product will be launched on Messenger apps all around the world, soon. Watch this space for more updates.

  • Mobile Internet Services Banned in Gujarat Due to Political Disturbance

Mobile Internet Services Banned in Gujarat Due to Political Disturbance

Gujarat is once again in the news and this time even we have a reason to report why – the state has banned mobile internet services due to civil disturbances. These disturbances began when a certain Hardik Patel began demanding an OBC status for the otherwise economically stable Patel community.

As reported, Gujarat was plunged in arson and stone-pelting by members of the Patel community after the police detained Hardik Patel on Tuesday. A curfew had been imposed on three towns, while Ahmedabad has reportedly been faced with violent incidents, such as city buses and police posts being set on fire. The police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation.

Security has been maximised, due to the tense situation in the state. Schools and colleges remain shut while mobile internet services have temporarily been banned, so as to control or prevent any ‘rumor-mongering’ through social media.

This move is being highly debated and is raising a bundle of political questions about Hardik Patel’s demand. However, what is the difference between China and India if we’re going to now control information being shared on social media? On the other hand Gujarat has also previously seen communal violence escalating to an unprecedented level. What do you think of this ban?

  • Pengate : Read the Manual Says Samsung

Pengate : Read the Manual Says Samsung

Last year, Apple had trouble dealing with Bendgate for the iPhone 6 and now Samsung is dealing with ‘Pengate’ on its new Galaxy Note 5. The recently launched handset comes with a standout 5.7 inch and the ability to write notes on the screen with the S-Pen even when the phone is locked. The Pengate is being called merely a misplaced pen, while reports point out that the main problem with the Note 5 is not the phone in itself but the stylus.

    Galaxy-Note5_back-with-spen_Black-Sapphire

It has been found that the stylus can be inserted back into the slot in one correct way, otherwise it gets stuck. Moreover, after freeing the stylus, apparently the phone’s ability to automatically detect the stylus’s removal is no longer works.

Samsung has put out a statement saying:

“We highly recommend our Galaxy Note 5 users follow the instructions in the user guide to ensure they do not experience such an unexpected scenario caused by reinserting the S pen in the other way around.”

So, basically now if you do not pay heed to the instructions then it’s your fault not theirs. And if you’re in a rush while handling the device and mistakenly insert the stylus backwards, it is your fault not theirs.

This isn’t the first time smartphone users have had a problem with their new device. Previously, the iPhone 4 had come with the ‘antennagate’, and users were asked not to hold the iPhone in a particular way. In short, a smartphone is only as good as it’s user, whether it’s an iPhone or Samsung.

  • New Leaked Video of the Apple iPhone 6s Tells All

New Leaked Video of the Apple iPhone 6s Tells All

This is perhaps the most exciting leak for today – the much anticipated iPhone 6S has now been leaked. There is a video and some images showing us all we need to know, about the upcoming iPhone’s exciting features, such as, the Force Touch and the A9 chipset.

The images are said to reveal an iPhone 6s logic board with components such as the rear shell and battery, both of which enable the device to display a screen showing a gear icon. The video shows us the boot up process, logic board, LTE baseband modem and its radio frequency transceiver chip.

The first feature that we are most excited about, is perhaps the Force Touch, but the device that has been leaked does not prove the existence of the feature yet. However, there are some differences that have been noticed in this device, as compared to the iPhone 6, such as the shielding on the rear of the display being glued in place rather than screwed in.

Secondly, the pictures apparently also suggest that the iPhone 6s logic board will include Qualcomm’s WTR3925 radio frequency transceiver chip, in order to pair with the new modem for better cellular network.

Last but not the least, the pictures received by the source unfortunately do not show the presence of an A9 chip. The logic board seems to be a pre-production product unit and hence is said to be missing the A9 stamp and markings that could have revealed how much RAM is included in the package.

All this information however, has not been confirmed by Apple itself. So we will just have to wait until September 9th to see the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. The event is also rumoured to feature announcements including a revamped Apple TV with support for Siri control and third-party apps.

  • Sony Teases the Camera Capabilities of the Upcoming Xperia Z5

Sony has recently put out up a teaser, of what is being rumoured to be the new Xperia Z5. The teaser mentions a ‘greater focus’ feature, which perhaps suggests a phase detection system.

The company used their official Twitter account to reveal:

    https://twitter.com/sonyxperiagb/status/635851614083878912

It is known that Sony has already implemented this in the Xperia M5, so therefore it seems likely. But there have been no official announcements. Even the idea of a Z-series is speculated, however, there have been many leaked images of an alleged Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact.

All we can do now, is wait for the IFA Berlin event and see what happens. Watch this space for exclusive updates.

Elephone Creates The Smallest Smartphone Run On Android KitKat

For those of us who are wary and uncomfortable with the new large smartphones, there’s a new small smartphone called, Elephone. This device is 2 inches small and runs on a custom version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

    Elephone1

This smartphone can be used as an accessory to your larger smartphone, when you don’t feel like taking out your massive smartphone to listen to music etc. The camera however is said to be unsatisfactory because it is slow and displays pictures in a pixelated form.

    Elephone 2

This phone has not been officially named yet and is said to be available in markets later this year at $80, which is around Rs.5,303. Apart from this, Elephone is allegedly making a number of smartphones within China. So, maybe this is going to be the next Chinese brand to enter India.

    Elephone 3

However, the usefulness of this small smartphone is debatable. For example,One could lose this phone quite easily and it’s not that savvy looking either. So do you think smartphone companies are wasting their money trying to make older phones like the flip, slide and now a small phone? Or do you think it will work?

Facebook is realising the kind of social impact it can have in today’s society and has made a statement, following the launch of a “Donate” button:

    Facebook Donate

“Every day, people use Facebook to raise awareness and show support for causes they care about and to motivate others to do the same, we’re inspired by how much good comes from these connections, so we’ve added a ‘Donate Now’ call-to-action on Pages and link ads to make those connections easier than ever.”
