“The new Mac Pro is our vision for the future of the pro desktop, everything about it has been reimagined and there has never been anything like it,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The new Mac Pro packs up to 12-core Xeon CPUs, dual FirePro GPUs, ultra-fast ECC memory, new PCIe flash storage, Thunderbolt 2 expandability and more into a radical new design that is one-eighth the size of the previous generation Mac Pro.”

“From the blazing fast performance of DaVinci Resolve to real-time video capture with UltraStudio 4K, Mac Pro is a revolution in pro desktop design and performance,” said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design.

“With the Mac Pro’s dual workstation-class GPUs, we’ve seen MARI run five times faster, creating a fluid painting experience that’s unlike anything we’ve seen. This kind of performance is a digital artist’s dream,” said Bill Collis, CEO of The Foundry.

“At 20Gbps, Mac Pro’s Thunderbolt 2 blows away anything on the market and completely changes the external storage landscape,” said James Lee, CEO of PROMISE Technology.

The all-new Mac Pro is architected around a unified thermal core that allows the system to efficiently share thermal capacity across all the processors. An innovative fan draws in air incredibly efficiently and makes the new Mac Pro as quiet as a Mac mini. The result is a pro desktop with unprecedented performance packed into a design that is just 9.9-inches tall and one-eighth the volume of the previous Mac Pro.

Reinvented from the inside out, Mac Pro is designed to tackle even the most demanding workflows. The new Mac Pro features 4-core, 6-core, 8-core or 12-core Intel Xeon processors running at Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz that deliver double the floating point performance of the previous generation Mac Pro. Featuring an incredible six Thunderbolt 2 ports, each with up to 20Gbps of bandwidth per device, the all-new Mac Pro completely redefines desktop expandability. Thunderbolt 2 ports support up to six daisy-chained devices each, giving pros the ability to connect up to 36 high-performance peripherals—from external storage devices, to multiple PCI expansion chassis, to audio and video breakout boxes. Thunderbolt 2 uses existing copper or optical Thunderbolt cables and is completely backward compatible with existing Thunderbolt peripherals and cables, and also supports the latest 4K displays. A new self-configuring IP over Thunderbolt software feature in OS X Mavericks provides a fast link between Thunderbolt-enabled Macs.

The new Mac Pro provides unparalleled power for Apple’s professional apps, including Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X and Aperture. Final Cut Pro X has been optimized to support dual GPUs for improved real-time playback performance, faster rendering, quicker export, and 4K video monitoring through Thunderbolt 2 and HDMI. Flash storage makes importing and exporting thousands of high-resolution images faster with Aperture. • Apple Retains Multi-touch Patent

    Apple Retains Multi-touch Patent

USPTO now once again recognizes patent No. 7,479,949 (for the multi-touch feature) in Apple’s favour after invalidating it in 2012. This happens to be one of the two patents that the ITC has determined was infringed on by Samsung, leading to a current import ban on some older Samsung models.

Titled “Touch screen device, method, and graphical user interface for determining commands by applying heuristics,” the ‘949 patent is a broad, sweeping property covering functional aspects of multitouch screens like those found in many smart devices, like the iPhone and iPad.

Steve Jobs is listed as the first of over two dozen inventors on the patent, and it is considered perhaps the most famous of his over 300 credited patents.

    As FOSS Patents notes :

As we speak, the Steve Jobs patent is even stronger than it was before someone (presumably Samsung and Google) challenged it anonymously. On September 4, 2013, the USPTO issued a reexamination certificate confirming the patentability of all 20 claims because the prior art neither anticipated this invention nor renders it obvious.

A number of Apple’s key patents have been challenged for reexamination as its competitors have sought to derail Apple’s claims against them in various court battles.

Apple has also filed an appeal to broaden the US import ban to cover additional Samsung products. The Cupertino company has asked the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to review three more patent cases, following the ITC finding Samsung guilty of two patent infringements already.

Apple’s proposed Apple Campus 2, now in the final planning stages, can be seen in detail in new model photos provided by San Jose Mercury News. The 4-story circular building, which Steve Jobs famously described as “like a spaceship,” encompasses more than 2.8 million square feet.

Also showing off the miniature model to the media was Dan Whisenhunt, director of real estate and facilities for Apple. He touted the green and sustainable nature of the project, which will convert a current location that is mostly asphalt into an environmentally friendly facility that will be 80 percent open space and parkland.

“The concept of the building is collaboration and fluidity. It’ll provide a very open-spaced system, so that at one point in the day you may be in offices on one side of the circle and find yourself on the other side later that day.”

Although this is the first physical model the public has seen of the new facility, previous renderings revealed a dark-colored roof with solar panels, a corporate auditorium, additional parking and a jogging path. Images also included a 45,000 square foot fitness center.

The project will be considerably larger than Apple’s current headquarters, accommodating 12,000 staff. “There is not a straight piece of glass in this building” Jobs said at the unveil. “It’s all curved. We’ve used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use.”

What do you think to Apple’s proposed new campus? Typically ambitious design, or a little too far?

Apple Looking To Poach BlackBerry Employees

Apple is looking forward to profiting from the demise of the once-famous company – BlackBerry. It wants to employ the staff that will be laid off by BlackBerry.

To recruit fired Blackberry employees, Apple hosted a recruitment drive at the Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre on September 26th. The Blackberry’s decision was based on the disastrous financial conditions it’s running under.

“Most positions will be based in Cupertino, CA.,” Apple told potential recruits through a LinkedIn invite obtained by The Financial Post. “Relocation and immigration assistance will be provided for candidates that are hired, as needed.”

BlackBerry has some very talented engineers, and it is those employees who helped BlackBerry amass a substantial patent portfolio over the years. Apple probably isn’t the only company that has been trying to grab the best of BlackBerry’s employees, but holding a recruiting event shows that Apple is serious about getting those employees.

Apple’s attempt was criticised and taken wrong by many online resources but from a business point of view, it is a very good strategical approach to spread its reach and productivity and Apple really would be benefited by it.

Intel also held a recruitment drive aimed at luring BlackBerry workers. The semiconductor’s information session was held on Sept. 28 and 29 at the Holiday Inn Kitchener-Waterloo Hotel and Conference Centre. Intel invited BlackBerry employees, telling them that it was looking for engineers for its Mobile and Communications Group.

The Verge reports that one of the workarounds that seems to be working is to disable iCloud syncing (Settings > Numbers/Pages/Keynote, then tap on the “Use iCloud” toggle to disable it).

We’re sure Apple will be working on an update to fix these issues – we’ll keep you posted.

As iGyaan exclusively revealed today, the iPhone 5S and 5C will be available in India from October 23rd.
