Dell Introduces Rugged Extreme Series in India Starting at Rs. 2.29 Lakh

With all their amazing features, consumer electronics are still extremely delicate. Even the thought of dropping your laptop might give you goosebumps, right? They hold your entire life’s data, but they give up with a spill of water. If you are a traveller, you are always scared for your gadgetry. Dell has a solution to all your worries, well if you have the cash.

The Dell Latitude 12 and 14 Rugged Extreme follow in the footsteps of the Latitude XFR D630, which was so extreme that it was the choice of military men in the field. These badass notebooks can withstand temperatures from minus 29 degree Celsius to scorching 63 degree Celsius. These bad boys can withstand impact from a 6-foot drop. They can also take on blowing dust and rains, so these are perfect for folks whose devices face the brunt of their out worldliness.

    dell_rugged_extreme_laptops

They are not just rugged; they look extremely stylish too. They look like the briefcases used by secret agents in espionage-based movies and tv shows. Latitude 12 has the added advantage of a swivel screen with superior visibility that makes it a good outdoor device.

Latitude 12 comes with options for fourth-generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. You can install up to 16 GB of RAM along with 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB hard drive options. The device also has a 8MP rear camera with LED flash. It holds a customisable RGB backlit keyboard. This tough gadget starts at a price of Rs. 2,39,999. On the other hand, Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme costs Rs. 2,29,999 with about the same specification options.

These laptops sure compliment their rugged and extreme title. Though it’s not much use to an average user, but for a man on the move, these hefty-sized laptops would be perfect companions. These are definitely the badasses of the laptop family.

  • Dell CEO : “Dell Not Getting In The Mobile Phone Business”

Dell CEO : “Dell Not Getting In The Mobile Phone Business”

Founder and chief executive Michael Dell said a day after Dell Inc. shareholders approved his $25 billion buyout bid that taking the company private will help give it “long-term focus.”

Emphasizing the company’s main business was its enterprise business, Mr. Dell said the company was focused on “powering those clouds that are being fueled by this enormous explosion of mobile devices.”

Dell will participate in tablets and other client devices, he said, but “won’t be getting into the mobile phone business.”

Asked if layoffs were in the offing, CFO Brian Gladden said there would be a company “re-alignment,” without elaborating.

Dell, who founded the company from a college dorm-room in 1984, and partner Silver Lake fought for months to convince skeptical investors his offer was the best option. This week, he gained the upper hand after one of his staunchest opponents, activist investor Carl Icahn, bowed out of the conflict because he said it was “impossible to win.

As The Verge reports, the CEO pledged his company will continue its aggressive push into enterprise services, but also promised new products designed for regular consumers. “Dell will participate in tablets and all sorts of client devices,” he said. “This is the Dell that many of you are very, very familiar with, and you’re going to see it in all its glory.”

  • Dell’s $25 Billion Buyout To Take The Company Private Approved

Dell’s $25 Billion Buyout To Take The Company Private Approved

Michael Dell clinched shareholder approval on Thursday for his $25-billion offer to buy and take Dell Inc. private, ending months of conflict with the company’s largest investors and removing the uncertainty surrounding the world’s No. 3 PC maker.

The results of a shareholder vote were just announced moments ago at a special meeting of shareholders in Round Rock, Texas. The final vote tallies haven’t been released yet, but CNBC, citing sources familiar with the result, have pegged the vote in favor at 65 percent to 35 percent. A final tally will be read out a little later, as the meeting is still under way.

As AllThingsD reports, the final buyout price is $13.75 per share, and includes a 13 cent per share special dividend, for a total price of $13.88, or $24.9 billion. The deal also guarantees an eight cent per share quarterly dividend when Dell next reports earnings, in November.

The path to victory was practically guaranteed today because Dell’s chief competitor, Carl Icahn, had backed out of his bid to take the company in another direction. Earlier this week, Icahn announced that he has abandoned plans to offer an alternative option to shareholders, saying that it would be “impossible” for him to win.

In a statement on the vote, Michael Dell said that he was “pleased” with the shareholder vote, adding that the vote will now allow his company to move forward to “serve our customers.”

  • Dell On Possible Smartwatch : ‘We’re exploring ideas in that space’

Dell On Possible Smartwatch : ‘We’re exploring ideas in that space’

Not many people are interested in full-on pre-configured desktop PCs anymore and so Dell is forced to look at other form factors in order to remain afloat.

Dell is considering a move into the “wearable computing” space. Sam Burd, Dell’s global vice-president of personal computing, told the Guardian that “we’re exploring ideas in that space”.

“There are challenges in cost, and how to make it a really good experience,” Burd said. “But the piece that’s interesting is that computers are getting smaller. Having a watch on your wrist – that’s pretty interesting, pretty appealing.”

The comments suggest that Dell is considering a smartwatch, rather than an entirely new hardware paradigm such as Google Glass.

Dell has tried to take a bite of the mobile market before, but has struggled to make a success of it. TheDell Streak, the company’s 5-inch mini-tablet, showed significant promise but failed to convince the market that Android on a larger screen made sense; ironically, shortly after Android phones began rapidly increasing in screen-size, so that now the Streak’s display actually looks mid-sized.

With falling revenue matching only the slumped demand for traditional computers, the company announced a leveraged buyout of the company in February of this year by founder Michael Dell.

The buyout was set at $24.4bn but recently company directors have asked for more money, indicating that the board no longer feels confident that the deal will find shareholder approval when it comes to the vote on July 18.

  • E3 : New Line-Up Of Alienware Gaming Notebooks Showcased

E3 : New Line-Up Of Alienware Gaming Notebooks Showcased

This week, Alienwar is taking the wraps off of its overhauled gaming laptops, codenamed “Epic.”

Alienware is launching three new laptops (14″, 17″ and 18″) along with a refresh of the Alienware X51 compact gaming PC.

    alienware

The company has completely overhauled its portable machines with new, magnesium alloy and aluminum casing in a charcoal finish and sleek, angled and rounded edges. Each includes a HD matte display with a reimagined keyboard and LED illuminated trackpad.

    alienware

While manufacturers like Razer and Gigabyte are slimming down their hardware, Alienware is content to keep the chassis beefy at 1.6-inches up to 2.2-inches depending on the model.

For all models, the displays can optionally be upgraded 1080p at order-time if that’s not already the default option. While this is not surprising on the 17? and 18?, the 14? also gets the full HD option, with a little bonus in the form of an IPS panel which should provide wide view angle and great color rendering for that form-factor.

Inside, the laptops are powered by various versions of Intel’s latest Core i7 processor backed by 8GB to 32GB of RAM, depending on the model. The differences between those CPU options are frequency (3.4GHz to 4.0GHz and cache size which go from 6MB to 8MB). This time, Alienware has selected the NVIDIA 700-Series graphics processors and options vary from the GT 750M to the dual-GPU GTX 780 (dual-gpu is only available on the 18?). This type of graphics performance blows away your average $900 Ultrabook by miles.

In terms of storage, Alienware has showed us that for the first time, they are supporting up to 3 drives on all three laptops, and the high-end configuration would be something like 512GB of SSD and 2X750GB of HDD (+ optical drive), which is kind of crazy for a laptop.

  • Report : Dell Buyout Deal Nearing Completion

Report : Dell Buyout Deal Nearing Completion

    dell

Talks between Dell and a consortium led by its founder and chief executive Michael Dell to take the world’s No.3 PC maker private were still on track on Monday, with negotiations focusing on a price of between $13.50 and $13.75 per share, a person familiar with the matter said. This makes the total value of the deal almost $24 million.

If the transaction goes ahead it will be the largest leveraged takeover since the onset of the banking crisis in 2007, worth around $20bn (£12.7bn). Microsoft is expected to invest about $2bn in the deal, while the private equity firm Silver Lake – which has previously invested in Skype – is expected to put in about $1bn, the source said.

The prospect of Microsoft — which is a long-time Dell partner — holding sway over a major hardware player continues to raise eyebrows. Cozying up with one supplier — say Dell, over others such as HP, Lenovo, Acer etc…. could obviously cause problems. But Microsoft appears to be losing leverage over its traditional PC partners, most of which could be counted on to pre-load Windows on virtually all of their laptops and desktops.

As a sign of changing times, HP on Monday announced its first Chromebook, a laptop that ships with Google’s Chrome OS, not Windows. Whether that is a reaction to all this Dell-Microsoft talk or was just an inevitable hedging of bets is unclear.

Michael Dell is expected to roll over his roughly 16% stake and put in some of his own cash for control of the emerging private company.

He intends to convert the business from a computer company to a business which provides a range of information technology services. The PC market is in sharp decline, and at present PCs account for 70% of Dell’s earnings and more than half of its profits.

Dell Streak gets official Gingerbread update

Still holding on to that Streak from the past? Dell has issued a Gingerbread update to most of the streak division and should be hitting up Indian update servers shortly. It has been more than a year since Gingerbread was announced, and we don’t know if Ice Cream Sandwich is supported on this device, or will ever come officially.  Although most Streak users, including our very own one was ported to a custom rom a long time ago. Those who still enjoy their device on 2.2 can update it to official 2.3.

You can also download the Rom  (use 350 Recovery to install it) from this LINK

  • Dell to discontinue Mini series netbooks, focus on Ultrabooks

Dell to discontinue Mini series netbooks, focus on Ultrabooks

Dell has announced that it will discontinue all focus and manufacture of Mini series and other Netbooks, their reason for doing this is the investment of the same effort in up ramping of Ultrabooks that seem to be the new rage in the Industry. Samsung had announced similar plans earlier last month, shifting their focus to Ultrabook. Dell has already discontinued the Streak tablets, now they have retired the netbooks. The netbooks appear to be missing from the Dell India site swell so it looks like a global deployment.

Apparently business/enterprise clients can still get the Mini for large scale orders.
