With Apple Pay heading the mobile payment brigade we can soon expect hard cash to be a relic of the past. And joining this brigade is LG, who have confirmed their plan to launch a mobile payment platform next month. LG is also reportedly making major deals with some of South Korea’s biggest credit card companies before launching the service.
There is some speculation over whether the company will only use NFC or also MST which is Magnetic Secure Transmission, that is also used by Samsung. However, as of now there are no details on the official name of the product or the date of launch. We will just have to wait and see whether LG can carve a niche of its own in the mobile payment league despite the stronghold of companies like Apple, Samsung and Google.
An executive from LG’s Poland offices tweeted that the LG G3 will start receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow sometime between the 16th and 18th of December 2016.
If reports are to be believed, then the update is already in the last stages of testing and will be rolled out first in Poland. Other regions worldwide will also receive the update right after Poland does. But, we do not have a concrete list of the regions.Let us just hope that we are on the list too.
Nexus devices are traditionally examples of what Google wants from companies in the year to come. They are devices designed to run on the latest versions of Android keeping the performance at its best, being a design and performance benchmark of sorts that run pure Android. However this year google seems to have changed its philosophy and has launched two new Nexus devices. So is the cheaper Nexus 5X actually up to standards with what Google usually puts out, or is it Google’s shadow attempt at keeping the mid-tier market happy?
Build Quality and Design
The Nexus 5X made by LG for Google appears to have a little too much plastic, and is extremely light -so much so that it does not feel premium at all. Made entirely of plastic, barring the display, the device is rather flimsy looking. However, it does not feel like it will break easily, the plastic is rigid, but in no way feels anything close to the feel on the Nexus 6 or the Nexus 5 for that matter. No mention of IP ratings and you get an outdated Gorilla Glass 3 with a simple Oleophobic coating.
The design is not winning any points for now, the black Nexus 5X is fairly boring with a bump on the back for the camera. The back panel is extremely fingerprint and smudge-friendly and gets stained easily. Laying on a table the Nexus 5X is nothing out of the ordinary, and the complete use of plastic kills not only the aesthetic but a lot of the premium feel at the price bracket. Devices like the Moto X and Samsung A8 offer a lot more design and visual appeal. Push a little further in your budget and you get the Samsung Galaxy S6, one of the “prettiest” phones of 2015.
The great thing about the Nexus 5X is that, unlike the Nexus 6, it is very lightweight at only 136g grams and can easily used with one average sized hand.
Hardware
The hardware on the Nexus 5X seems to be a compromise, with Google sticking to Snapdragon 808 and 2 GB of RAM, the only major improvements are the cameras which now stand at 12.3 MP and 5 MP.
Wi-Fi 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac / Bluetooth 4.2 / NFC / Type-C USB
Operating System
Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow)
Price
Rs. 31,990/ Rs. 35,990
Camera
The new Nexus 5X and 6P have similar cameras, and they have to be the best Nexus cameras yet. While low light performance is questionable, the cameras do exceedingly well in good lighting. Good accurate colours, ample amounts of contrast and dynamic range are some the highlights of the cameras.
The main camera captures images just under the full resolution of 12.3 MP at 12.2 MP and UHD video. The front camera comes up with 5 MP pictures and 1920 x 1080p video. While the images are crisp and great to look at, the camera app does slow down once in a while and does not give the experience that is expected from Nexus devices. The rear camera gets laser assisted (IR sensor) auto focus, mostly seen on LG flagship phones, and works pretty efficiently in capturing focus points.
Video quality is great at 4k, but due to the lack of IS, the video tends to be shaky when shot by shaky hands. Sample below.
Android Marshmallow and Experience
The new Nexus 5X, just as each Nexus before it, comes with the latest version of Android, which in this case is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. With this new update you get improved UI features like an App search bar, a new Clock and lock screen messages.
You also get performance upgrades, a brand new RAM manager, standard support for fingerprint scanners and USB type C ports, and hence the new Nexus phones have those both.
Software updates like ‘Now on Tap’ allow you to look at Google Now throughout the UI. Apart from the usual “Ok Google” command, a long-press on the Home button makes the Google Now assistant scan whatever’s on the screen to find extra info online that might be helpful.
Privacy is now been updated and apps can no longer bypass this. A new security feature asks for passwords during boot, and not after booting to prevent unintentional battery drain if a non-owner tries to start the phone.
The new Doze feature is incredible at recognising when the phone is idle to put it in a rested state. This considerably improves battery performance on the Nexus 5X.
Performance and Battery
The Google Nexus 5X is losing out on one big thing and that is performance. Each year Nexus phones stand out as leaders defining performance standards for companies, however, this year the case is different. The higher of the two Nexus devices launched this year, the Nexus 6P, is more of a performance benchmark. The 5X is mostly being sold to cater to those who basically don’t like the idea of an expensive Nexus phone, as was seen last year with the Nexus 6.
The Nexus 5X runs dated and weak Snapdragon 808 chipset because, most manufacturers have preferred the 808 over the 810 pertaining its heat issues. The 808 scores considerably less on benchmarks achieving 48020 on Antutu which falls roughly below last year’s Note 4 by Samsung. So the Nexus 5X is not a flagship benchmark.
Battery life is assisted by the Doze feature and gives you extended use, especially if you have a long screen-off time.
The Nexus 5X will easily last a day for the average user going into the second day before requiring a charge. With a talk time of around 6 hours, we are not complaining.

Conclusion
The Nexus 5X is available in India for a price of Rs 29,990 (at the time of review) for the 16 GB variant which is about Rs. 4,000 more than the US$ 379 price. At this price it lacks the essence of a Nexus phone. Its built in plastic lacks a QHD display and comes with 2 GB of RAM, the best advantage of the Nexus remains the quick updates. For a better hardware experience the Moto X Style offer better value for money, at the same price and has a QHD display 3 GB of RAM and better cameras, fast turbo charging and dual sim capabilities. More over you get expandability up to 128 GB. The Moto X style offers a near-Nexus Android experience and will soon get marshmallow.
You should consider one of the many other options instead of the Nexus 5X this year. For LG and Google the intent is wonderful and the phone brings back the brilliance of the Nexus 5, however the Nexus 6P is more Nexus than the Nexus 5X.
A report has confirmed that LG will begin to roll out the highly awaited Android M 6.0 in the G4, in the coming week. Rejoicing? Hold on. They plan to do this only in Poland though and then roll out the update to other countries.
LG marketing, VP Chris Yie said in a statement:
“By working closely with Google, LG has been able to bring Android 6.0 to the G4 ahead of any of our competitors,”
Unveiled back in April, the latest flagship from LG’s stable, LG G4, is available with a price tag of Rs. 41,500 in India. One of the most highlighted features of the device is its powerful camera. It boasts a 16MP camera with f/1.8 aperture (widest aperture on any smartphone camera) equipped with Optical Image Stabilization 2.0, color spectrum sensor, and Laser Auto Focus functionality.
The bad news is you have to have an LG G4 somewhere in Poland to be ecstatic about this news because LG hasn’t announced any other phone they will be making the update available on. However, the good news is that it means that we can see the update in India, soon.
Stay tuned for more information and updates on iGyaan.

LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition is now officially the first Android Wear device with a 4G LTE support. Though this feature is enough to make waves in the tech world, the Watch also carries many other interesting things sure to lure buyers into giving this device a try.
https://youtu.be/FdRymDRtPJA
Firstly, on the display and resolution front, Urbane is equipped with a 1.38-inch fully circular P-OLED display, and 480 x 480 pixels along with 348 ppi. Secondly, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, 768MB of RAM, and 4GB of built-in memory are some of the other features to be part of the deal. Lastly, the Watch aims to win the buyers over with its built-in sensors which include accelerometer, gyro, compass, barometer, heart rate sensor, and GPS.
The IP67-certified stainless steel body of the gadget -44.5 mm in width and 14.2 mm in thickness -further makes it a device worth noticing. All of this along with a 570 mAh hexagonal battery by LG Chem constitute the long list of fancy components of the Watch.
LG has shown great utilisation of Android Wear, Google’s operating system for Android wearable devices, in the past as well. LG Watch Urbane, the all-metallic luxury previously launched by the company is an example of this. The Watch came with a 1.3-inch circular P-OLED (320x320p resolution) display, along with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset paired with 512 MB RAM, along with a 4GB inbuilt memory and 410mAh battery.
Clearly, its successor, Urbane 2nd Edition is a significant upgrade in display, battery and RAM. While all the other specs are mostly similar, these additions definitely gives an edge to LG’s latest edition to the world of Android Wear.
The much awaited Google Nexus event is finally here with the launch of its two new Nexus phones as well as updates on Android Marshmallow. We have brought to you news of all the recent developments, and now that LG Nexus 5X has been launched let’s take a closer look at everything that it has to offer.
Dave Burke took to stage, following Google CEO Sundar Pichai and introduced the two highlights to the audience. The one we’re concerned with is LG Nexus 5X. As leaked had already showed, the main camera is a protruding structure and is marked at 13 MP.
The phone also boasts of finger print scanners, keeping itself abreast of touch-related technology. Burke attributes to this feature an “incredibly low” false recognition, and calls it very convenient while using Android Pay.
The device comes with USB Type-C and is available in three colours – Carbon Black, Sports White and Ice Blue. It will be available for shipping in late October.
Yesterday, LG released its first teaser for a new smartphone. The first thing we notice about this phone is its unusual screen. Basically it has added an additional smaller screen on top of the regular one.
Take a look at the teaser:
This feature had however, been leaked earlier in September, but this teaser confirms its existence. The leak showed the additional ticker next to the front dual cameras, and above the regular screen. This feature however, give the phone an asymmetrical look when turned off.
Nothing more has been revealed in the teaser about the new LG smartphone’s specs. However, @evleaks had previously leaked that the handset could possible arrive with a 5.7 inch QHD screen, powered by the Snapdragon 808, with an internal storage of 64GB with a micro SD card and a 3GB of RAM. It’s primary camera is expected to be a 16MP one along with a 5MP front camera.
This unnamed LG device is scheduled to be unveiled on the 1st of October, 2015.
Leaks ruin the element of surprise. With leaks you get to know mostly everything about a device that is yet to be launched. We have been bringing you rumours of the upcoming Nexus smartphones for a while now with the last one being the design of Huawei’s Nexus 6P. So, continuing with the trend, we now have images released by Android Police that reveal the design of LG’s Nexus 5X.
LG’s smartphone looks a lot more appealing than Huawei’s. While the Nexus 6P appears to have a big black bar casing for the camera, the smaller 5X has gone with a simpler look for the back with a fingerprint scanner just below the rounded camera bump. The camera and fingerprint scanner appear to be of the same size which provides a nice balance. The front of the Nexus 5X looks similar to the 6P phablet with two grilles on the front for speakers.
The 5X is expected to have a 5.2-inch 1080p screen with 423 ppi pixel density and a 1.8GHz Quallcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor, with 2 GB of RAM. According to the Amazon listing the smartphone will also come with a 12.3MP primary camera and a 5MP front-facing camera and is expected to be priced at Rs. 23,940. Amazon also revealed that the smartphone will be available in three colour variants – Charcoal Black, Quartz White and Ice Blue.
With the Google event less than a week away, we pretty much have everything we need to know about both the Nexus smartphones. Now we just have to wait for the official release of the devices on the 29th of September in San Francisco.
Google officially confirmed that the upcoming Nexus smartphones will be arriving on the 29th of this month. We now have confirmation from Amazon India about the detailed specifications of one of the two upcoming devices – the LG Nexus 5X.
The landing page of the Nexus smartphone is already live and reveals that the smartphone will come in three colour variants – Charcoal Black, Quartz White and Ice Blue. Unfortunately there are no pictures available.
According to the Nexus landing page the smartphone will come with a 12.3MP primary camera and a 5MP front facing camera. It will feature a 5.2-inch IPS FHD display with 423 ppi pixel density. As per usual, the new operating system by Google, Android Marshmallow will be debuting on this smartphone. The LG Nexus 5X will be powered by a 1.8GHz Qualcomm MSM8992 hexa core processor, coupled with 2GB RAM. According to the post, it will come with a 16GB internal memory and single nano SIM . This smartphone is expected to be priced at Rs. 23,940. Although there still several details missing, it’s worth noting that up until now we’ve only seen sketchy leaks of the device.
We now only have to wait a week before the two new smartphones are officially announced and as always, iGyaan will be bringing you the news as it happens.

We’ve been giving out rumours and hints about Google’s dual Nexus smartphones that will be unveiled on the 29th of September. We also know that one will be by LG and the other by Huawei. Now, we have reports by Droid Life who confirm that the LG device will be called the Nexus 5X while the Huawei will be Nexus 6P.
The LG device is rumoured to have a 5.2-inch display while the Huawei device will sport a 5.7 inch screen. Other features include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core chipset, with 3 GB of RAM for the Huawei Nexus 6P, while the LG device will feature a Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor with 3 GB of RAM.
Google will also release the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow and a 2nd Gen Chromecast. Whether or not the new Nexus names will stick till the end of the month is anyone’s guess. Follow this space for more updates on the Google event.
Android PIT has leaked a new image of Lg’s Nexus 5. According to this image, reports suggest that the new smartphone might come with a fingerprint scanner, dual LED flash and perhaps a laser auto-focus module too.
The Nexus 5 is also expected to have a 12MP camera and a 2700mAh battery. Apart from this, other rumours suggest that it could be powered by the Snapdragon 808 processor along with 3GB of RAM. The handset might come with a storage capacity of 16/32GB along with a 5.2 inch display with 1080p resolution, and is expected to come in colour variants of – white, black and blue.
The expected release date of this product is 29th September 2015.
The tech world has been abuzz with the news of the Google’s new Nexus smartphones for which it has been working with LG and Huawei. Rumours are pretty much confirmed about these two new additions to the smartphone industry.
The smartphones are believed to be launching on the 29th of this month. However, Google has kept the buyers in the dark for a while regarding the date when they will be available for order. But lo and behold for there seems to be a date made public for this as well now. If rumours are to be believed, the new smartphones will be available for pre-order by the 13th of October. News about the shipping of the duo remains unknown.
The tentative date for the pre-order is about a fortnight post the assumed launch. This is fairly early than the previous Nexus launches in the past where there was a time gap of at least three weeks between the launch and pre-order dates. Let’s see if they choose to position the pre-launch sooner than usual this time, or if the buyers are in for a disappointment with a delayed pre-order date.
New rumours about LG suggest that it is going to launch a phone called the V10 with a “ticker” display above the main screen. A ticker display is basically one in which information is scrolled across the top or bottom of a screen. This kind of display setting has previously been used on Samsung’s Continuum Galaxy S Verizon variant.
This has been leaked by Evan Blass and reveals that this new phone, that is, the V10 will have a 5.7-inch 2,560 x 1,440 screen, Snapdragon 808 CPU, 3GB memory, 16 megapixel rear/5 megapixel front cameras, expandable memory and a back fingerprint scanner.
The phone also is said to have a removable-looking plastic back and a metal frame. Further rumours also suggest that it could come with a dual SIM. There is no further information, and nothing has been officially confirmed.
We’re not sure what LG will put on the ticker — perhaps some kind of launcher like Samsung uses on the curved sides of the Galaxy Note Edge. While the phone has a removable-looking plastic back, the frame itself appears to be metal, according to the Tenaa photos (which have since been pulled). Provided all this info is correct, we should see the handset imminently, given that it’s cleared the regulatory hurdle. With the dual-sim setup shown in the Tenaa listing, there’s no guarantee it’ll come to North America or Europe.
With IFA Berlin only a week away, there is a stream of predictions pouring in. New reports suggest that LG has created a very new and innovative product called the ‘Rolly Keyboard’. This is a full-sized QWERTY keyboard for smartphones and tablets that rolls up into a stick for your convenience.
You can store a full keyboard and carry it anywhere in your pocket. It is smaller than a regular size keyboard and each key is 17mm. The keyboard is powered by a single AAA battery. It also supports bluetooth and is said to last for around three months before running out of power.
The keyboard is also said to be made from “durable” polycarbonate and ABS plastic and is expected to be unveiled at the IFA Electronics event in Berlin next week with the G Pad II tab. Lg has not released the cost of this product but has announced that it will go on sale in the US from September onward.
