Nokia 7 Plus Could Launch On April 4th

Nokia officially launched the Nokia 1, Nokia 6 2018, Nokia 7 Plus, and the Nokia 8 Sirocco at Mobile World Congress 2018. The company recently launched the Nokia 1 in India for a price of Rs 5,499. And now, the company has sent a press-invite for a launch event, where the company is likely to launch the Nokia 6 2018 and Nokia 7 Plus. The press invitation comes with a quote ‘We welcome you to Explore. Express. Create. Reimagine’, which hints towards the dual camera found on the Nokia 7 Plus. Additionally, HMD Global might also launch the Nokia 8110 4G banana phone.

    Nokia 6 2018 Specs

The Nokia 6 (2018) has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. The back of the phone also houses a 16MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture along with a dual-tone LED flash. To the front of the smartphone is an 8MP with an f/2.0.

    Nokia 7 Plus Specs

The Nokia 7 has a 5.2 inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. Nokia 7 Plus, on the other hand, has a 6 inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio hence, the “Plus” moniker. The Nokia 7 plus also features a dual-tone design thanks to a few gilded bits and pieces.

Under the hood, the 7 Plus has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. That is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which will be expandable via microSD card.

On the back of the 7 Plus is a dual-camera setup powered by Zeiss optics. The primary wide-angle sensor is a 12MP camera with an f/1.75 aperture coupled with a 13MP telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture. Additionally, the telephoto lens will allow for bokeh shots which have now become very trendy. On the front is a 16MP fixed focus camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

  • Nokia 9 Renders With In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Reveals An iPhone X-Like Notch

Nokia 9 Renders With In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Reveals An iPhone X-Like Notch

At the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018), HMD Global unveiled as many as five devices. While the Nokia 7 Plus and 8 Sirocco look like great devices and the Banana Phone is a nice throwback, the event lacked a true flagship unveiling. That is because the Nokia 8 Sirocco still runs on the Snapdragon 835. However, MWC 2018 saw the launch of a few Snapdragon 845 powered devices.

    Nokia Banana Phone

The Nokia 9 will be that flagship device could be announced by mid-2018. There were a lot of leaks and renders prior to MWC 2018 pertaining to the smartphone. However, none of that came to fruition. But, new concept renders of the Nokia 9 reveal a few exciting features. But, it also showcases something that seems to have a become a staple for Android smartphone makers.

    Nokia 9 Design

The smartphone is expected to have an all-glass design. The renders reveal a nearly bezel-less design with extremely thin bezels on either side. However, like a lot of MWC 2018 unveilings, the Nokia 9 also has a notch on the display. If this turns out to be accurate, the Nokia 9 will hardly be the first or the last one to copy the iPhone X.

Apart from that, the Nokia 9 is also expected to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. While this sounds like an exciting proposition, we might be a few months away from seeing this technology being implemented regularly. Even though Vivo managed to embed a fingerprint sensor in a consumer-ready device, it retails for a much higher price than it is supposed to. Embedding a fingerprint sensor in a display is a costly technology, something that HMD Global could avoid in order to keep the Nokia 9’s price down.

The smartphone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset and could have up to 8GB of RAM. While many expected HMD Global to announce a Penta-lens concept phone, the Nokia 9 could just have a dual-camera setup.

  • Nokia 9 Might Have An iPhone X Like Notch And In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor

Nokia 9 Might Have An iPhone X Like Notch And In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor

The Apple iPhone X introduced a new design language to the iPhone lineup. After three generations of very similar looking devices, the iPhone X represented what the future of iPhones would be. And that future includes a notch on the display. Panned at first and appreciated later, the notch on the iPhone X has gained quite the status since September 2017. So much so that the Mobile World Congress 2018 saw plenty of iPhone X clones being unveiled.

Even Google introduced support for a notch in the first developer preview of Android P. This means that the notch is here to stay and Google wants as many apps as possible to be acclimatised with the new aspect ratio. A new report claims that Nokia, too, will launch the Nokia 9 with a notch on top. Apart from that, it might have an in-display fingerprint sensor as well.

    notch
    Essential Ph-1

The Essential Ph-1, although was the first Android device with a notch, did not really turn heads like the iPhone X did. With companies like Huawei expected to launch their new smartphones with a notch, it looks like Apple’s design decision will shape the industry’s design language as a whole.

    Expected Specifications of Nokia 9

Similar to the Nokia 8 Sirocco, the Nokia 9 will have an OLED QHD+ display. An OLED display is a pre-requisite for Clear ID. Under the hood, the device will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with a custom CPU for AI. The device will have premium glass design with support for wireless charging.

    Nokia 8 Pro

Zeiss optics will, in all probability, co-engineer the cameras for the Nokia 9. However, recent reports claim that it might have a Penta-lens setup which will house both the wide angle and telephoto lens.

  • Nokia 7 Plus Could Cost Rs. 23000 In India

Nokia 7 Plus Could Cost Rs. 23000 In India

HMD Global unveiled the Nokia 7 Plus at MWC 2018. While the company launched as many as five devices, the Nokia 7 Plus, for its build quality and price, is the most exciting one out of the lot. The 7 Plus recently went on sale in China which hints at a possible price of the smartphone for the Indian market.

In China, the base variant of the Nokia 7 Plus is priced at CNY 2300 which is about Rs. 23500. Considering the company’s aggressive pricing of the Nokia 8, the 7 Plus could be priced at around Rs. 23000 in India. At such a price, its real competition comes from the Moto X4 which starts at Rs. 19999 for the base variant.

    Nokia 7 Plus

However, the Nokia 7 Plus possesses a better chipset and from what we have seen so far, looks much better as well. It has a better design with the new 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels. But, the fact that it is an Android One device is what makes the 7 Plus a great prospect, at least on paper. While the specifications hardly ever tell the full story, on paper, the Nokia 7 Plus at a price of Rs. 23000 could be a smash hit in India.

Another thing in favour of the device will be the price category. At a price range of Rs. 20,000 to 25,000 apart from the Moto X4, only the Honor 8 Pro is a relatively new device. The OnePlus 3T is no longer available and Samsung’s devices have an older hardware. Hence, the Nokia 7 Plus could be a great option for people looking to spend that kind of money on a smartphone.

    Nokia 7 Plus Specifications

The Nokia 7 Plus has a 6 inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio hence, the “Plus” moniker. The Nokia 7 plus also features a dual-tone design thanks to a few gilded bits and pieces.

    Nokia 7 Plus

Under the hood, the 7 Plus has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and 2.2GHz octa-core processor. That is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which will be expandable via microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is now placed on the back and has the similar colour accents found on the Nokia 6 (2018).

On the back of the 7 Plus is a dual-camera setup powered by Zeiss optics. The primary wide-angle sensor is a 12MP camera with an f/1.75 aperture coupled with a 13MP telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture. The telephoto lens will allow for bokeh shots which have now become very trendy. On the front is a 16MP fixed focus camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 1-micron pixels, and Zeiss optics.

    Conclusion

While the prospect of an Rs. 23000 priced Nokia 7 Plus is promising, nothing is certain as of now. HMD Global has not confirmed that the 7 Plus will be launched in India in the near future. However, if it gets the pricing right, the Nokia 7 Plus could sell like hot cakes in India.

  • Nokia 8 Pro Specifications Leaked

    Nokia 8 Pro Specifications Leaked

HMD Global launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco at MWC 2018. The smartphone has a premium design, dual Zeiss branded cameras and a stainless steel mid-frame. In fact, the smartphone has everything to be called as a 2018 flagship smartphone. However, the smartphone was based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, which is a bit of a disappointment.

A leak suggests that the company might launch the Nokia 8 Pro with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Expected specifications of Nokia 8 Pro

The device is expected to have a 6 inch 2160 x 1080px display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage.

    Nokia 8 Pro
    Nokia 8 Pro

The phone is expected to have a dual 16 MP camera setup, similar to the one found on the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Similarly, the device is likely to have a 13 MP front-facing camera.

The smartphone is expected to have a 4000 mAh Li-ion battery with wireless charging capability with a USB type C port, which doubles as the headphone jack. In fact, the smartphone has a bigger battery than the Nokia 8 Sirocco.

The Nokia 8 Pro will run on Android 8 Oreo OS. However, unlike the Nokia 8 Sirocco, we are unsure about the support for Android One Programme.

    Conclusion

The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a QHD+ display while the Nokia 8 Pro has an FHD+ display. In fact, we might see a display similar to the one found on the Nokia 7 Plus.

The Nokia 8 Pro is expected to launch in Q3 of 2018. In fact, at least on paper, the Nokia 8 Pro has better hardware, with a bigger battery and a newer chipset. As of now, there is no official statement from HMD Global regarding the Nokia 8 Pro or a possible launch.

  • Nokia 7 Plus Vs Moto X4

Nokia 7 Plus Vs Moto X4

HMD Global launched the Nokia 7 Plus at MWC 2018. Leaked way ahead of its official launch, the Nokia 7 Plus garnered a lot of interest. It was touted to be the first-ever Nokia smartphone with an 18:9 aspect ratio. However, the Nokia 89 Sirocco, launched along with the 7 Plus, has the same aspect ratio. The price of the Nokia 7 Plus EUR 399 (Rs 31000).

However, if the company decides to launch the Nokia 7 Plus in India, it will have to be priced below the estimated price. The Nokia 7 Plus at a price of Rs. 25000 would really be one of the best options on the market. At Rs. 28000 or thereabouts, the Honor View10 has a better chipset and features like AI integration. However, at Rs. 25000 price bracket, the Nokia 7 Plus has competition from the Moto X4 and Honor 8 Pro at best.

The Moto X4 has a glass back while the Nokia 7 Plus has an aluminium unibody design. However, the Nokia 7 Plus has subtle accents around the camera and fingerprint sensor, similar to the Nokia 6 (2018). So, if the Nokia 7 Plus is launched at around Rs. 25000, which smartphone comes out on top? Let’s find out!

  • Top 5 Unveilings At MWC 2018

Top 5 Unveilings At MWC 2018

Barcelona, Spain hosted yet another edition of MWC 2018 in February. While smartphones like the Galaxy S9 and Xperia XZ2 were heavily leaked, there were a few surprise launches that caught a lot of attention. Nokia, for instance, launched as many as 5 devices. So, what are the top five smartphones that launched at MWC 2018? Let’s find out!

    Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+
    Galaxy S9, S9+ Colour Variants

This is an obvious entry on the list. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ were the most anticipated smartphones of MWC 2018. Follow up to 2017’s successful flagship duo, a lot was expected from the Galaxy S9 and S9+. As was expected from the numerous leaks, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ did not look too different from their predecessors.

However, there are a few important upgrades that could be interesting. First one is in the camera department. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ now feature a variable aperture. The Dual Pixel 12 MP sensor has a dual f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture. In bright lighting conditions, the camera will use the f/2.4 aperture, while the wider f/1.5 aperture is used in dark lighting conditions. It also captures 720P videos at 960fps and 4K videos at 60fps, similar to the Apple iPhone X.

Also, the fingerprint sensor is finally placed below the camera module, something we saw on the Galaxy A8+ as well. The S9 has a single camera setup while the S9+ now has a dual-camera setup similar to the Galaxy Note8. Both the smartphones will be launched in India on the 6th of March and go on sale on March 16th.

    Vivo Apex

This smartphone is not a consumer-ready product yet. However, it is still one of the coolest devices displayed at MWC 2018. Over the years, MWC has been a witness to some amazing concept phones. Even this year, Nokia was expected to unveil the Penta-lens concept phone. However, that did not happen. But, Vivo did turn up and one-upped its CES 2018 unveiling.

The Vivo Apex has an in-display fingerprint sensor that covers almost half the display. While the Vivo X20 Plus UD only had a regular-sized fingerprint sensor underneath the display. In fact, this is not even the most interesting feature of the Apex. To accommodate probably the thinnest bezels on a smartphone, Vivo came up with a very different implementation of the front camera. The Apex has a hidden front camera which pops out every time it has to be used.

Although it is still a concept phone, the implementation is very interesting here. Let’s hope more companies come up with consumer-ready products with such intricate and satisfying design elements.

    Nokia 7 Plus

HMD Global launched not one, not two, but five devices at MWC 2018. Apart from the smartphones, it also announced that all Nokia devices will now be Android One devices. The Nokia 7 Plus, another heavily leaked device was one of the five phones to be launched. Along with the Nokia 8 Sirocco, the Nokia 7 Plus is the only Nokia smartphone with an 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels. A follow up to the China-only Nokia 7, the 7 Plus has a great design and build quality.

If the European price of the smartphone is anything to go by, it will have a steep price in India. However, for it to work in the Indian market, HMD Global will have to price below Rs. 25000 to keep the Honor View10 at bay, which has flagship specifications and costs Rs. 28999. At under Rs. 25000, the 7 Plus will compete with the likes of the Moto X4.

    Asus Zenfone 5Z

At MWC 2018, companies like Sony and Samsung were expected to launch Snapdragon 845 powered smartphones. However, the most interesting device powered by the flagship chipset was unveiled by Asus. Apparently, this smartphone flew under the radars of leakers online and Asus had a worthy unveiling in its hands. From the moment you look at it, the Zenfone 5Z looks like an iPhone X lookalike.

Although Asus claims the notch on the Zenfone 5Z is smaller than that of the iPhone X, it is still a notch. Also, one thing that the iPhone X achieved was uniform bezels around the display, thanks to the notch. However, the Zenfone 5Z kind of defeats the purpose of a notch as it also carries a thicker chin. That being said, the flagship Asus device has a lot going on for it.

If and when Asus launches the Zenfone 5Z in India, it could nullify the effect of the OnePlus 5T if launched at a price of Rs. 40,000 or less. That is until the OnePlus 6 is launched.

    Sony Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact

For the past couple of years, Sony smartphones have failed to capture the imagination of many consumers. Even in 2017, when many smartphone makers made a shift to bezel-less design, Sony continued to launch its signature boxy style devices. However, that finally changed at MWC 2018. Sony unveiled the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact with an 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels. However, still not the thinnest bezels you’ll see this year.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 and the smaller sibling also run on the latest and greatest Snapdragon 845 chipset. Apart from the Galaxy S9 and Zenfone 5Z, they are the only devices to run on the new flagship chipset. Sony still has a single camera setup on the front and back. So, it has still clinged on to a few Sony signature features.

Even for the Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact, the devices will have to be priced competitively in India.

The phone packs in a user replaceable 1500 mAh battery with micro USB port for charging and data syncing. However, there is no front-facing camera on the phone, which is little disappointing.

The device supports dual SIM cards with support for 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. In fact, the 4G data can be wirelessly shared using the built-in WiFi hotspot feature. Unlike the Nokia 8 Sirocco, the Nokia 8810 does retain the 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The smartphone runs on custom Smart Feature OS, which comes with Google Maps, Google Assistance and Google Now. In fact, it also features apps like Facebook and Twitter. Additional apps can also be downloaded via the app store.

  • Nokia 8 Sirocco Launched For EUR 749 At MWC 2018

Nokia 8 Sirocco Launched For EUR 749 At MWC 2018

Nokia has officially launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco edition at MWC 2018, which will be available from April 2018 for 749 Euros. In fact, this is the most premium smartphone that supports Android One Programme.

The smartphone is constructed from a single block of stainless steel like the Apple iPhone X. This makes the Nokia 8 Sirocco a strong smartphone, as stainless steel is 4 times harder than the Aluminium, with IP67 water and dust resistance certification. In fact, it measures 7.5 mm at its thickest point and 2 mm at it thinnest. This is the first Nokia Android smartphone to support wireless charging.

    Specifications:

The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a 5.5 inch pOLED QHD+ 2560 x 1440 px display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display offers a dual curved design with the vacuum moulding technology with Gorilla Glass 5. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The primary 12 MP sensor has an f/1.75 aperture with 1.4-micron pixel size and the secondary 13 MP telephoto lens has an f/2.6 aperture. The device has a 5 MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.micron pixel size. In fact, the primary camera setup found on the smartphone is exactly similar to the Nokia 7 Plus’s camera specifications.

The device does offer additional features like NFC, 4G VoLte, Bluetooth 5.0, and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. However, this is the first Nokia smartphone to remove the 3.5 mm headphone jack.

  • Nokia 1 Officially Launched For US$ 85 At MWC 2018

Nokia 1 Officially Launched For US$ 85 At MWC 2018

HMD Global has launched the Nokia 1 at an event in Barcelona along with a few other smartphones like the Nokia 7 Plus. The Nokia 1, as speculated, is an entry-level Android Go device which will retail for US$ 85 (Rs. 5500 approx.), excluding taxes and subsidies. However, the company has claimed that this a global price. Hence, it is expected to be launched in India at a price of Rs. 5000 or less.

The Nokia 1 will be the most affordable Android smartphone from the company, which right now, is the Nokia 2. While there are no details pertaining to its launch in India, the Nokia 1 will go on sale in April globally. It will be available in Dark Blue and Warm Red colour variants. Along with that, the company will also sell Xpress-on covers priced at $7.99 (Rs. 500 approx.) in Azure, Grey, Yellow and Pink colours.

    Specifications

The Nokia 1 4.5 inch FWVGA display with an 854 x 480 px resolution. Under the hood, the Nokia 1 has the MediaTek MT6737M chipset with a 1GHz quad-core processor. This is coupled with  1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of onboard storage.

Out of the box, the smartphone will run Android 8.1 Oreo based Android Go operating system. Powering the smartphone will be a 2150 mAh battery which the company claims will deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time.

    Android Go

Google claims that Android Go’s Oreo edition will be a variant of Android Oreo that a manufacturer can just set by ticking off a configuration flag. What this basically does is that it sets up the phone to use the “Go” versions of a handful of Google apps such as the main Google app, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail, and others.

Google claims that the smaller apps and slimmer OS can as much as halve the amount of storage that’s taken up by default on a new phone running default OS.

    Conclusion

While the Nokia 1 seems like an interesting phone, the Indian entry-level market has come competition. If it launches at the global price, the Nokia 1 will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 5A which offers much better specifications at a similar price point. However, this will depend on the pricing of the smartphone.

  • Nokia 7 Plus Launched For EUR 399 At MWC 2018

Nokia 7 Plus Launched For EUR 399 At MWC 2018

HMD Global has officially launched the Nokia 7 Plus at an event in Barcelona. It succeeds the recently launched Nokia 7 and will be a global device, unlike the Nokia 7. The Nokia 7 Plus is also an Android One device, which means that it will get Android update support for more than 2 years. It carries a price tag of EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 31,750) and will go on sale in early April in Black/ Copper and White/ Copper colour variants.

While the Nokia 7 had an older design with thick bezels and a 16:9 aspect ratio, the Nokia 7 Plus has an upgraded design. The Nokia 7 Plus has an 18:9 aspect ratio and the design accents similar to the Nokia 6 2018.

    Specifications

The Nokia 7 has a 5.2 inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. Nokia 7 Plus, on the other hand, has a 6 inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio hence, the “Plus” moniker. The Nokia 7 plus also features a dual-tone design thanks to a few gilded bits and pieces. Like the fingerprint scanner ring, the dual-camera casing and the Nokia logo on the back.

    Conclusion

At a price of EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 31,750), the Nokia 7 Plus has a lot of competition. If and when HMD Global launches the Nokia 7 Plus in India, it will have to be priced closer to the Moto X4 rather than the Honor View10. However, the price and details for the Nokia 7 Plus in India have not been revealed yet.

Nokia 7 Plus Renders Leaked Before MWC 2018 Launch

HMD Global is rumoured to be launching a few smartphones at MWC 2018. Unlike a few other smartphone makers, it seems unfazed by the launch of the Samsung GalaxyS9 and S9+. One of the devices that HMD Global will launch, is the Nokia 7 Plus. So far, we have seen a few renders that hint toward an 18:9 aspect ratio, a first for Nokia smartphones.

New renders of the smartphone corroborate with previous claims and reveal a revamped design for Nokia smartphones. The Nokia 7 Plus will be an upgrade over the Nokia 7, which featured a 16:9 aspect ratio and thick bezels. The 7 Plus, along with hardware upgrades, the Nokia 7 Plus will also have a modern design along with a new colour scheme. A similar colour scheme was first seen on the Nokia 6 (2018).

Like the Nokia 8, the Nokia 7 Plus is also expected to have a dual-camera setup on the back. The renders also reveal that the Nokia 7 Plus won’t have Clear ID, and the fingerprint sensor will be placed on the back, just under the camera module.

    Nokia 7 Plus Expectations

The 7 Plus will be an upgrade to the Nokia 7, which was hugely popular in China. Nokia 7 Plus, however, is expected to be a global device meant for markets like India.

The smartphone, like a lot of 18:9 phones, will have a 5.99 inch display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. That will be coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

The 7 Plus will have a 12MP wide-angle lens along with a 13MP telephoto lens. The front of the smartphone is expected to house a 16MP camera with no LED flash. The primary camera setup will also have a Nokia Pro mode along with the Bothie feature.
