OPPO India has launched its flagship device in the country today at a price of Rs. 29,990. The company announced that the phone will be available for pre-order from 1st January, 2015.

The high-end device was unveiled by the company in October at a price tag of $499. The smartphone was the world’s slimmest phone record holder before the launch of Vivo X5 Max. The X5 Max beats OPPO R5 by just .10 mm, with a sleek design measured at 4.75 mm.

In an official announcement, the company highlighted its specifications, The 4G-enabled R5 is equipped with Octa-core Qualcomm MSM8939 processor and features a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen”. Adding to its specs, the phone has a screen resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. Along with the Qualcomm processors, the device packs 2 GB of RAM and an Adreno 405 GPU. The device comes with 16 GB of unexpandable inbuilt storage, which is the only drawback of this model.

OPPO India CEO Tom Lu commented on the launch –

The frame has been forged nine times and then finished by hand to give a perfect sheen and feel. It has a quality that is not available anywhere else in the industry. The R5, like the rest of the R series delivers a truly stylish, exquisite and distinctive design and will continue to delight our customers with its innovative yet practical functions.

The device is available in other countries like Australia, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and few more except India. The other smartphones by the company were received well by the Indian users. Only time will tell whether this device finds a place in this saturated smartphone market.

  • New Oppo R5 Now Leads the ‘World’s Thinnest Smartphone’ Race

New Oppo R5 Now Leads the ‘World’s Thinnest Smartphone’ Race

Oppo has just launched the much-awaited R5, which has broken the fellow Chinese manufacturer Gionee’s record for the world’s slimmest smartphone. The Oppo R5 measures just 4.85 mm thick; the company has shaved quite a bit compared to the 6.3 mm Oppo R3.

The hand-polished frame is made up of 3D-welded aluminum alloy. The other measurements are 148.9×74.5 mm (that’s rather tall for a 5.2-inch device) and it weighs a mere 155g. Previous generation R series handsets are known for their slim and sleek design, but the new R5 has upped the expectation from the company even further.

The new R5 pack a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen of 1080p resolution (423ppi), which the company said is one of the best displays available in the market with best brightness, lowest reflectivity and highly accurate colors. The R5 will launch with Android 4.4-based ColorOS 2.0. It’s powered by Snapdragon 615, Qualcomm’s mid-range octa-core chipset. It features an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, which is paired with an Adreno 405 GPU and 2 GB RAM.

It fashions a 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor and a f/2.0 aperture, while the front camera is a 5MP shooter. Also with that, the company has added a special cooling element made from liquid-metal and phase-change materials to balance the heat created by the chipset.

Surprisingly, despite being so thin, Oppo R5 managed to juice it up with a 2,000mAh Li-Polymer battery along with the VOOC mini rapid charge tech support. The company said that the smartphone will make its way to the global market in December and will be available to the customers at a price of $499 in silver, gold and grey colours.

Oppo Brings Out the N3 with 16MP Rotating Camera

As expected, Oppo has launched two new smartphones today at a press event in Singapore, the N3 and R5. N3 has been touted as the most interesting ‘camera phone’ ever with a motorised swivel camera that can track objects as they move, and can rotate up to 206 degrees.

The successor to the N1 fashions a 16MP motorized camera letting users track objects as they move. The sensor used by the camera is 1/2.3-inch in size and the pixel size is 1.34micrometer. The camera uses Schneider Kreuznach-approved lens that sums it up to an impressive level of quality.

    oppo_n3_landscape

The mechanized camera is super useful to shoot panoramas and taking selfies for example. Panoramas are shot in up to 64MP resolution. The fingerprint sensor at the back also allows you to protect your images immediately after taking them with a single swipe.

Some of the other camera functions that come under the Oppo N3’s ‘Ultra image 2.0’ suite include slow shutter, ultra macro mode, after focus, and shooting in RAW. The N3’s 16MP shoots 4K video at 30 fps, 1080p video at 60 fps, 720p slow motion video at 120 fps.

Specs-wise, the new N3 is no less compared with other flagship phones available in market. In terms of connectivity, the phone offers Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0. USB OTG is also supported. It comes with  a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core SoC, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a nice 5.5-inch full HD LCD (the N1 had a 5.9-inch one), NFC and a 3,000 mAh fixed battery.

The N3 also comes with VOOC rapid charging with a smaller charger, which means you can go from zero to 75 per cent in just half an hour. The handset is now listed on the company’s China website with a price tag of CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 40,100). The company said that the handset’s dual-SIM variant will also arrive later.

  • Oppo Expected to Bring Out R5 and N3 on 29th October

Oppo Expected to Bring Out R5 and N3 on 29th October

Oppo’s much anticipated N3 and R5 are said to launch at an event in Singapore on 29th October. Previous generation R Series handsets are known for their slim and sleek design and the new R5 is said to be designed along the same lines.

Both the devices are expected to come with support of 4G LTE out of the box. If so, the new R5 will be the slimmest 4G LTE handset available in the market. The recently released teaser shows two devices behind the curtain. The two devices shown are speculated to be the Oppo N3 and R5, however has been no confirmation or any other details revealed.

    oppo_teaser_one_more_step

Earlier, the company teased the camera module of the expected handsets. Oppo N3 features have been leaked by various enthusiastic Chinese mobile showrooms in past few months. GSM Arena had leaked some renders of what could be the Oppo N3, which showcases a cylindrical rotating camera design.

The leaked teaser doesn’t show the cylindrical rotating camera, also, it is not immediately evident if that is indeed the design of the other phone. Oppo claims that one of its designs will incorporate a lithium-aluminum alloy, whereas the other one will use stainless steel.

    oppo-n3-oct-teaser

Chinese electronic showrooms have already started taking pre-orders of the new Oppo N3. The full-fledged advertising campaigns of the Chinese mobile stores have revealed that the new Oppo N3 will sport a 5.5-inch full HD display and a rotating 16MP camera. If this is true, then the Find 7 will still remain the only Oppo smartphone with a quad-HD display. Another detail revealed is the Chinese pricing of the N3 at 4,928 Yuan which comes to roughly Rs. 43,000.

  • Oppo Launches Neo 3 For Rs. 10,990 on Flipkart

Oppo Launches Neo 3 For Rs. 10,990 on Flipkart

Oppo launched a new budget-friendly smartphone, the Neo 3 today in India aimed at the budget segment of the Indian market. It is available via Flipkart (its recently announced retail partner), as well as via retail stores across the country, priced at Rs. 10,990.

The dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) Oppo Neo 3 is similar the Oppo Neo in some departments. The camera megapixel count, the processor, display size and resolution are identical to the Neo. It features a 4.5-inch display with a FWVGA (480×854 pixel) resolution, which sounds decent, but there are phones with much higher resolution display in this price range these days like the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, which goes on sale on Tuesday.

The Oppo Neo successor was announced in India by the company via the Oppo Mobile India Facebook page, with  caption “In stores now Oppo Neo 3, another gem in out portfolio.”

    10457911_307988346032162_2040071172917065126_n

A dual-core 1.3GHz processor powers the device and there’s 1GB RAM on board. This combination will power Oppo’s custom UI running on top of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The device is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash along with a  a 2-megapixel secondary camera.

On the connectivity front, the Oppo Neo 3 includes 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, OTG, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth 2.1. The smartphone packs a 1900mAh battery. Also, Oppo Neo 3 has a technology called HotKnot, which allows it to “share anything simply by touching another mobile screen with your.”

Oppo’s proprietary ColorOS is slightly better than what Gionee has to offer, but its not all that different in terms of functionality. There’s 4GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded via a microSD card to up to 32GB.

The device is a bit low on the spec sheet. Considering the arrival of some pioneering devices like the Zenfone from Asus and Xiaomi’s line-up, Oppo should have tried a bit harder with the phone. The price too is on the higher end and they should plan to reduce if it wants to gain some market.

  • After Xiaomi, Oppo Signs an Exclusive Deal With Flipkart

After Xiaomi, Oppo Signs an Exclusive Deal With Flipkart

Flipkart is becoming ‘the’ place online for smartphone manufacturers to reach out to consumers. The strategy gathered steam when the king of comeback, Motorola, introduced their products on the website. Its Moto line of products went out of stock when they went on sale, indicating the huge demand online. This encouraged others to try out the route and we have seen companies like Xiaomi gaining huge popularity in India through Flipkart. Now another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo is going for an exclusive retail deal with Flipkart.

Oppo has some good products in its kitty.
Oppo has some good products in its kitty.

Oppo has some amazing devices such as Find 7 which was the first phone with Quad HD (2K) display in India. The company is looking forward to generating an all India market for their devices. They currently have 10 devices in the Indian market and they can be found in a price range of Rs. 8990 to Rs. 37,990. The phones in the Oppo stable in India are Oppo N1,  R1, Find 5 Mini,  Neo,  Yoyo,  Joy,  Neo 3, Find 7a and the the recently released N1 Mini.

The company’s CEO, Mr. Tom Lu had this to say about the deal: “We have been striving to come closer to our customers and become a part of the society. With more and more consumers going online, having a digital presence has become a must. Flipkart is definitely one of the most popular shopping platforms with a very loyal customer base and by partnering with them, we are sure Oppo’s smartphones will reach out to more customers. With our products, Indian customers will get a chance to experience the best in innovation, the way many customers have enjoyed globally.”

Oppo certainly has some good products in its stable. The company hasn’t actually been able to create a buzz towards itself, even with an ad campaign that starred Hrithik Roshan. Considering the huge demand for quality high specs phones for fair prices on Flipkart, Oppo might be able to carve out a decent consumer base for its consumers.

  • Oppo Teases the Indian Market With the Hint Of N1 Mini

Oppo Teases the Indian Market With the Hint Of N1 Mini

Remember the Oppo N1? Announced way back in September last year, the device featured a unique rotating camera at the top, giving you the capability of taking your selfies in ultra-sharp 13 megapixel quality.

Now, Oppo is teasing the launch of it’s younger sibling, the Oppo N1 Mini, in India. The company on Sunday tweeted an image of the Mini with the text “Revolutionary 24 Mega Pixels Ultra HD Camera, Coming Soon!”. The picture carries the caption “Mini in size, Max on fun”.

    N1 Mini

If you missed the official launch of the N1 Mini back in June, we don’t blame you. It was a silent affair, with no extravagant event or hype. However, it did manage to tell us the official launch specs that the device will carry.

The N1 Mini sports a 5” HD (1280×720) display. Under the hood, it comes with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 305 GPU paired with a healthy 2GB of RAM. There is 16GB of non-expandable storage available. Similar to its bigger brother, it features a 13-megapixel ‘swivel’ camera with LED flash.

    Oppo-N1-hands-on-camera-back-macro

The battery capacity is 2140mAh. The body is 9.2mm thick, and weighs 150 grams. It comes in White, Blue and Yellow colour options. The Oppo N1 recently received a price cut in India, bringing it down from Rs. 39,999 to 32,990. So if Oppo learn from their mistakes and price the N1 Mini competitively, they could have a winner on their hands.

  • Oppo’s Find 7 Will Have 50 MP Camera?

Oppo’s Find 7 Will Have 50 MP Camera?

The Oppo Find 7 will be announced at a press event which takes place in Beijing on the 19th of March, and now a photo has appeared online which was apparently taken with the camera on the handset. An image sample implies an astonishing 50-megapixel rear camera for the Oppo Find 7, news that should make a few heads turn!

    oppo

It’s difficult to judge the quality from one image alone, but this prospect is likely to excite plenty of potential buyers. We also wonder whether Oppo will provide an oversampling option, similar to that offered by Nokia’s PureView technology.

At this point, we know that the OPPO Find 7 will be available in two hardware versions. Both will be based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 solution. One will give a screen with a diagonal of 5? Full HD, while the second will make the jump to the diagonal of 5.5″ and resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.

If the OPPO manufacturer is not playing with our patience and will not encounter other technological difficulties, Find 7 will be the first mobile phone with 2K screen, which says much about the ambitions of the new wave of Chinese manufacturers.

Other specifications on the Oppo Find 7 will include 16GB of built in storage plus 3GB of RAM, the device is expected to come with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Over to the event in Beijing!
