  • Samsung Teases Galaxy A8s With A Camera Cut-Out And No Notch

Samsung Teases Galaxy A8s With A Camera Cut-Out And No Notch

Samsung has just taken the next step towards a truly edge-to-edge display, or so it seems. In its recent event, Samsung teased the Galaxy A8s. This device is as close as it gets to an all-screen display. The teaser by Samsung shows a clear display, free of any obstructions. But a well known Samsung leakster on Twitter said that the device will have a tiny camera cut-out on the screen.

    Galaxy A8s

Samsung is probably the only smartphone manufacturer to not jump on to the notch bandwagon. But this hasn’t stopped the company from ensuring that they work towards an all-screen display. Talking about the Galaxy A8s, which is the cause for all this excitement, some reports also suggest that it will for sure have a camera cut-out. The camera cut-out might even be disabled while viewing videos or playing games, ensuring that it does not obstruct the display. The placement for the cut-out is still not known. Some sources are saying that it will be on the sides and not the centre to avoid direct obstruction. A recent tweet, which is no longer available, showcased the possible placement options that Samsung has for the device.

Whether the company has cracked the code to making an all-screen display or whether we’ll see a camera cut-out is not clear at this point of time. They have not revealed anything more about the device which might see its launch in the early parts of 2019. A truly bezel-less and notch-less display is also possible as Samsung has recently patented a technology to have an in-display front camera. With this, the front camera will be present within the display, eliminating the need for a notch or a cut-out to house it. This technology is probably the only way to achieve a 100% screen-to-body ratio.

    Samsung’s Innovation Spree

It is not surprising that Samsung is stepping up its innovation game. The company can no longer hold on to new technology or save it just for its flagship smartphones. With increasing competition threatening it in almost every smartphone market, the company needs to go out with all guns blazing. Other reports about the company developing a technology which will turn the entire screen into a fingerprint sensor has also appeared, showing that there is no slowing down for Samsung as of now.

Could the camera cut-out be the new trend for smartphone manufacturers or is it just as inconvenient as the notch? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

  • Samsung’s New Patent To Make The Entire Screen A Fingerprint Reader

Samsung’s New Patent To Make The Entire Screen A Fingerprint Reader

With great leaps in smartphone technology, users are getting safer and more convenient ways to unlock their smartphones with each passing year. The first major breakthrough after basic security features such as pins and patterns was the inclusion of biometric security in smartphones. Slowly, that evolved, became faster and more secure. It is now present under the display, eliminating the need for a physical sensor. However, the latest patent by Samsung is now taking this a step further. Samsung is planning to turn the entire screen into a fingerprint reader.

    The Future Of Displays

Currently, in-display fingerprint readers only cover a certain area of the screen and are not very accessible. The positioning of the fingerprint sensor is of the utmost importance. Just having it limited to a certain area on the screen is not ideal for any user. The latest patent from Samsung might solve this issue. The patent describes a way to make the entire display into a fingerprint scanner. This means that no matter where the user will place their hand, the device will be able to read the fingerprint and unlock.

The patent also describes that the device having this feature will have two processors. This consists of a main processor and a second, low power processor. The low power processor functions even when the display is not on. At the same time, the main processor is in sleep mode to save power. This secondary processor will then detect any touch and thus activate the biometric sensor. The smartphone will then conduct three scans for which it needs between 60 to 90 milliseconds. The processor needs 200 to 300 milliseconds to compute all this.

It is reported that the technology is being made for use on a folding display and might be seen on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy F device. However, some sources also say that the technology in the patent will not be seen anytime soon and that we will have to wait a few more years for it to be available. But, immense competition from Chinese manufacturers might just drive Samsung to crack the whip and bring out this innovation faster.

  • Samsung To Launch Snapdragon 710 Mid-Range Smartphone

Samsung To Launch Snapdragon 710 Mid-Range Smartphone

Qualcomm recently unveiled the Snapdragon 675 as manufacturers start to focus on mid range smartphones. Samsung, according to a tweet by an industry insider, will reportedly unveil a mid-range phone which will feature a Snapdragon 710 chipset. The company has used the 660 chipset before but never a 710. If they do end up using it, this phone will be Samsung’s most expensive mid-range smartphone yet. Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 675 features an Adreno 612 GPU while the 710 has an Adreno 616 GPU.  There are a lot of similarities in the two chipsets. This includes support for Quick Charge 4+, Bluetooth 5.0 and a Hexagon 685 Digital Signal Processor.

Samsung has been trying to focus on the mid-range segment in India and recently launched the A9. The upcoming smartphone might be a great competitor to Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Huawei and Honor brands that are doing well in the market. Rivals including the Oppo R17 Pro, Vivo Z3, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and many others use this chipset in their phones already. The phone may see it’s launch in India first. It might then see it’s introduction to other markets. Speculations also suggest that the phone might bear the name A10 following the Galaxy A9 which saw it’s launch in October this year.

The phone will probably cost more than Samsung’s A9 but cheaper than it’s flagship phones. There is no information regarding the features of the phone in terms of RAM or display. The phone will run on Android 9 Pie straight out of the box and might have a 3,000 mAh battery. It is also speculated that the new phone will have a 19.5:9 aspect ratio display. Samsung currently uses a 18.5:9 aspect ratio. If the launch date is set for January, there might be an announcement for the phone in December.

The laptop has a beautiful design and is available in various colours.

    Design & Features

The Samsung Notebook Flash is a clamshell styled laptop. The top of the laptop has a shiny textured pattern and a cloth like material covers the palm rest and keyboard area. The Samsung Notebook Flash has a retro-styled keyboard with circualar keys instead of conventional square shaped ones. • Samsung W2019 Flip-Phone With Dual Screens Leaks

Samsung has a range of W series smartphones that are exclusively available in China. Here is one upcoming device from the series called the Samsung W2019. It is a flip-style smartphone with modern day features.

    Flip Phone in 2019?

The Samsung W 2019 has two touchscreen displays and a T9 keyboard. The smartphone was also seen on TENAA but now has been taken down. The TENAA listing reveals the devices measures 132.9 x 63.2 x 17.3 mm and has a 4.2-inch screen size. It runs on the Android operating system, however the Android version is not specified.

The smartphone supports dual SIM cards and it has a 3,000 mAh battery.  The leaked images reveal the volume rocker and power button are on the right side. The Bixby button is present on the left side. Bixby is Samsung’s artificial intelligence based virtual assistant that the user can interact with. No information regarding the processor is available but we expect the phone to have the Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 SoC.

Talking about the looks of the device, it has Rose gold metal construction and a black rear glass panel. Placed on the rear glass panel are the dual rear cameras with LED flash. The front of the phone has 3 capacitive navigation buttons and the Samsung branding up top. The bottom of the smartphone has the micro-USB port, microphone pinhole, and the loudspeaker.

Opening the flip reveals the second screen and the physical keypad. The speakerphone and the front-facing camera are present on the second display. The smartphone also has a  lens on top of the keypad which might be an additional camera. There is nothing much to talk about the keypad except the three physical Android navigation keys.

The device is bound for the Chinese market and we will only get more information about the Samsung W2019 once the company officially announces it.

  • Samsung Working On An In-Display Front Facing Camera

Samsung Working On An In-Display Front Facing Camera

Samsung is reportedly working on an in-display front facing camera. If the reports are true, then we are going to witness one of the biggest jumps in smartphone technology. An in-display front-facing camera eliminates the need for a bezel or a notch to house the camera sensor. This could result in a truly bezel-less display without the hassles of a ‘sliding’ or ‘pop-up’ camera.

Samsung displayed the plan to do so at the 2018 Samsung OLED forum. The company announced that they will be working on other OLED technologies as well. This includes an in-display fingerprint scanner, a touch-sensitive technology and a screen sound technology. What these would do is not exactly clear as of now. But the in-display camera is the most exciting and arguably the most important out of the lot.

    A New Trendsetter?

Samsung has kept away from the ‘notch’ trend all this while. While every other smartphone manufacturer, including Google has jumped on to the bandwagon, Samsung has not. Recently, Samsung was teasing Google for the huge notch on its Pixel 3 XL device. It has also been mocking Apple ever since the launch of the iPhone X. With such confidence in their design and the need to bring something new, which will define the industry standard for design, Samsung might be looking to integrate this technology in the upcoming Galaxy S10.

However, reports also claim that this technology is in its infancy and is just being tested on a handful of prototype phones. With the launch of the Galaxy S10 not far away, this could mean that we will not see this technology in the device. However, we can expect many surprises from the company in terms of the Galaxy S10. The S10 is said to feature a bigger screen, a bigger battery and might even have a 5G variant, along with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

  • Samsung SM-W2019 Flip Phone With Two Screens To Launch Soon

The upcoming Samsung SM-W2019 Smartphone will launch soon and has been spotted on TENAA. The flagship flip phone from Samsung will mostly have its availability restricted to China and not see a global launch. The device has two 4.2 inch screens, a Snapdragon 845 SoC and a 3,000 mAh battery among other features. The cost of the device is somewhere around the $ 2,000 price mark, like its predecessor.

Also Read: Nokia X7 Design Revealed Ahead Of Launch

    Specifications

The SM-W2019 has two, 4.2 inch Super AMOLED displays, according to reports. The device also has a dual camera setup just like the one in the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy S9+. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and has 6 GB of RAM. The device sports a Bixby key and a USB Type-C port for connectivity and charging. A big upgrade has been in terms of the battery. While the SM-W2018 had a 2,300 mAh battery, the SM-W2019 has a 3,000 mAh battery. While many pointed out that a 3,000 mAh battery isn’t enough for two screens, it goes without saying that not both screens will be on at all times, hence solving this issue.

The flagship flip phone series was started by Samsung in December 2016. It announced the first of this series, the SM-W2017. This device had the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. It costs an outrageous $ 3,000 but still found its target market. In 2017, Samsung launched the SM-W2018 which ran on the Snapdragon 835 chipset and had a price tag of over $ 2,000. Not many people would value or find the need for such a phone in today’s world. However, it seems like Samsung does have quite a few fans for this series.

Apart from these few rumours and leaks, there is nothing else that is known about the device as of now. Though, it does look like Samsung will launch it this year itself, not letting the date get too close to the launch of the Galaxy S10 or the Note 10.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10 To Launch With A 6.6 Inch Display

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 To Launch With A 6.6 Inch Display

Smartphone industry insiders claim that the Note 10 will have a 6.66 inch screen. The claims are based on the specifications handed over by Samsung to its display manufacturing unit. This has been done so that work on the huge Super AMOLED panel can start early.

Also Read: Apple Watch Series 4 Now Available For Pre-Order In India

    Battle Of The Biggest

    Samsung Galaxy Note 9

The 6.66 inch display is an 8% bump in surface area from the Galaxy Note 9’s 6.4 inch display. The Galaxy Note 9 currently has the biggest display Samsung has ever made and this will surely beat it. It is also interesting to note that even though the Apple iPhone XS Max has a 6.5 inch screen, due to its aspect ratio and notch, its usable surface area is less than that of the Galaxy Note 9. Also joining the bandwagon of massive displays next year is a variant of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10. The Galaxy S10+ will have a 6.44 inch display as compared to the 5.8 inch display its other variants will have.

It is also noteworthy that Samsung has codenamed the Note 10 as ‘Da Vinci’. This could hint at better S Pen integration into the latest Note. We may see an upgraded experience and capability with the S Pen. Although the launch of the device is far away, Samsung has decided to finalise the specifications already. It has done this to have a longer development period. According to experts, they want to take their time and deliver a great product. The design is final and will be shown at the MWC in February 2019.

As of now, we will have to wait for some kind of confirmation from Samsung itself on this news. However, the gigantic screen is a possibility. These days, premium manufactures are taking it upon themselves to deliver the biggest and best screens. Coupled with the fact that Samsung is always on the lookout to better Apple, we could see a 6.66 inch display on the Galaxy Note 10.

  • Upcoming Samsung Galaxy A6s Leaked

    Upcoming Samsung Galaxy A6s Leaked

Samsung has been a major player in the smartphone market, but lately their sales numbers have been declining. This is due to cut throat competition from Chinese manufactures like Oppo and Xiaomi. Now. the company is working hard to gain lost market share by launching new smartphones with features that set them apart from their competition. One such example is the Galaxy A9 with 4 rear cameras. Today, an alleged Samsung device called the Samsung Galaxy A6s has surfaced online. The phone also passed the  TENAA certification late last month.

To fight with low profit focused Chinese companies, Samsung is trying the ODM approach. ODM or Original Design Manufacturing is a cost cutting approach in which a company outsources production of  goods to a locally based company in a foreign market. The local company is able to achieve lower production costs due to low labor-inputs, transport links and its proximity to markets. The Samsung Galaxy A6s will be the first ODM device from the company.

TENAA is a Chinese website for new mobile devices registration and a new Samsung smartphone was recently registered there as the G6200. The G6200 is supposedly the Samsung Galaxy A6s. The listing also revealed the specifications of the Galaxy A6s.

The Samsung Galaxy A6s gives us an idea about the new design language for the upcoming Samsung smartphones. The leaked devices show off new colours and all new glass back. They have vertically aligned dual rear cameras with dual-LED flash and a rear mounted fingerprint sensor.

    Specifications:

The Galaxy A6s has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD display with Full HD resolution. It runs on an unknown 2.2 GHz Octa-Core processor with 6 GB of RAM. The smartphone has two storage variants of 64 GB and 128 GB which will be expandable via a microSD card. The handset run on Android 8.1 Oreo and have a 3,300 mAh battery.

However, these are leaked images and specifications of the devices and the retail unit may vary. Sadly we will have to wait for any official announcement from Samsung regarding the same.

  • Samsung To Launch Foldable Smartphone Soon

Samsung To Launch Foldable Smartphone Soon

Samsung’s foldable smartphone has been a rumoured product for a long time now. But the Galaxy F might soon become a reality. A tablet that folds into a phone and fits into your pocket. Samsung has revealed, to a news website, at an event in Kuala Lumpur that this new product can become a reality early as November this year. This device will provide portability as a phone and also provide ease of use and allow for multitasking as a tablet. The product will not merely be a gimmick product giving an indication that it will be available to the masses. Reports say that the Galaxy F will be available internationally. Samsung had teased a flexible OLED display at CES 2013. Subsequently a phone called Galaxy Round saw its launch. It has been 5 years since that and it seems the foldable display and foldable phones are now a reality. Every smartphone is aiming f0r a larger screen and if Samsung is able to pull something like this off, it might mean a major shift in the industry.

What this means for the industry

While Samsung has not released any details regarding the tablet/ smartphone, the foldable phones will finally allow phones to have screens larger than 6.5 inches. ZTE had experimented with foldable smartphones in 2017 with their Axon M. However, the market did not receive it well. Samsung previously has been called out for its big screens when they first launched the Galaxy phones. But they became a new benchmark in the phone industry with time. It will be interesting to see how and if the new foldable displays turn out to be a pathfinder in this regard.

    Specifications

Previous leaks have reported that the Samsung Galaxy S10 will have three distinct variants. The first will be a 5.8 inch flat display device with a single rear camera. This is the cheapest variant, called the Galaxy S10 Lite. The devoid variant will feature a 5.8 inch curved display and will have dual rear cameras. The third will be the ‘true flagship’ device and will have three rear cameras and two front facing cameras. There are talks of a 5G variant of the same.

Other than this, the Galaxy S10 is reported pro have slimmer bezels (but no notch), an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor and various gradient colour options. The ultrasonic fingerprint reader is an existing Qualcomm technology. This is much more secure than existing ‘optical’ in-display fingerprint sensors and works in almost all conditions.

    Concept Images of Galaxy S10

The Galaxy S10 will run on the Snapdragon 8150 chipset, according to reports. This is the latest chipset from Qualcomm and will be the next flagship offering. While the Snapdragon 8150 does notifier much improvement over the Snapdragon 845 in terms of speed, the biggest change is the addition of a Neural Processing Unit (NPU). An NPU will help better integrate the Machine Learning and AI into the chipset. Apple had introduced a dedicated NPU with its A11 Bionic Chip last year and continues to offer it in its new A12 Bionic. The addition of an NPU to a Qualcomm chipset will help bring Android devices up to speed with iPhones.

Additionally, the folding smartphone from Samsung might be facing some delays, but the Samsung Galaxy S10 is sure to steal the spotlight with its exciting new features, if the leaks are to be believed.

The Google Pixel series is the only one to have stuck to a single lens camera setup, even in 2019. This does not make the devices dated or dull the camera performance.

The Google Pixel 2 has one of the best smartphone cameras out there, despite the fact that it has been an year since its launch. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will continue to carry what has now become a signature single camera setup. However, Google has given in to another trend from the smartphone industry. The infamous notch. Upgrades in terms of camera, battery and speed are possible, making the device even more appealing. However, OnePlus has let go of the headphone jack and the decision does not sit well with some fans. But, it is highly improbable that the someone would shun this device over a headphone jack.

The device will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and have 8 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the device will have 512 GB of storage as OnePlus does not offer microSD card support with its devices. It has a 6.41 inch Super AMOLED display with a tiny waterdrop notch.
