  • Samsung Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9+ Battery Capacities Leaked

Samsung Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9+ Battery Capacities Leaked

Samsung has confirmed that its new flagship smartphones will launch at MWC in late-February. With the launch just a few weeks away now, the leaks are coming thick and fast and the latest one delves more into the specifications of the Galaxy S9 and its bigger sibling rather than the design.

The new information comes from Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) that has published its certificates of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. According to the document, the Galaxy S9 will have a 3000mAh battery while the Galaxy S9+ will be powered by a 3500mAh. This is the same battery capacity as their predecessors from 2017. The upcoming flagship smartphones will also support QuickCharge 4.0+ thanks to the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Not just the battery capacity, almost all the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S9 were leaked, courtesy of a leaked image of the retail box of the Galaxy S9.

According to the specifications listed on the box, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will have a 5.8-inch sAMOLED display with a 2960 x 1440 px resolution. Similar to its predecessor, the smartphone will have a single 12MP SuperSpeed Dual Pixel camera. This time around, however, the camera will have an f/1.5 aperture and record super slow motion videos, probably at 960fps.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are expected to be priced at around the price of their predecessors. The price and release dates of the devices will be announced at the time of the launch. India is expected to be one of the first few countries to receive the smartphones.

  • Samsung Will Launch An Online-Exclusive Line Of Smartphones In India

Samsung Will Launch An Online-Exclusive Line Of Smartphones In India

Samsung will soon launch a line of budget smartphones specifically for the online consumers. This new lineup will directly compete with Xiaomi and its dominant lineup in the sub-15K category. Samsung’s new smartphones will also enter the Rs. 5000-Rs. 15000 price bracket.

According to IDC, Samsung and Xiaomi were the top two smartphone brands in India for the first time in Q3, 2017. The companies had a market share of 23.5% each, earning them the top spot in the Indian market with over 9.2 million smartphones. However, the top three smartphones sold during the July-September quarter were by Xiaomi. The majority of these sales happened through online channels and that is what Samsung intends to target with these new smartphones.

At this point in time, Samsung online-exclusive line of smartphones is its On series while the recently launched Samsung Galaxy A8+ is also an Amazon-exclusive for now. According to Counterpoint Technology Market Research, a Hong Kong-based research firm, Xiaomi’s rise in India is due to the absence of competition in the online space. According to the MD of Xiaomi India, the brand has almost 50% share of online smartphone sales in India.

    A Samsung Executive has said:

Samsung wants to extend its lead with Xiaomi which is possible by expanding e-commerce sales while consolidating its presence in offline channels. It will ensure that the 1.5 lakh brick-and-mortar stores selling its handsets are not neglected since Samsung knows it will take time for Xiaomi to build such a vast offline network.

    Redmi 5 Plus

What smartphones Samsung will launch at this price category is yet to be seen but, they will have to have extremely solid specifications to deter Xiaomi’s top-selling devices in the price category. Furthermore, Xiaomi will soon launch the Redmi Note 5 in India, which will succeed the highly popular Redmi Note 4 and will be priced at around Rs. 11,000.

  • Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ Clears FCC Certifications Ahead Of Launch At MWC

Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ Clears FCC Certifications Ahead Of Launch At MWC

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are poised to be launched at MWC in late-February. At the launch event, Samsung will also unveil the release dates of the 2018 flagship smartphones in various countries along with the price point. But, before Samsung readies the smartphones for consumers in the US, the two devices need to FCC certification clearance and it appears that the two devices have done that successfully.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will carry the model numbers SM-G960U and SM-G965U, respectively. However, the FCC database has not revealed any specifications or real-time images of either device but, there have been enough leaks in the past that give us an idea about the design of the phones. Recent renders have revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will share the same design language as their predecessors and will have marginally reduced bezels.

Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+ Leaked Images

The other major change is the difference between the regular and the plus variant. While in 2017, only the screen and battery size was the difference between the two variants, in 2018, the Galaxy S9 will have a single camera on the back while the S9+ will have a dual-camera setup, much like the Galaxy Note8. Also, as seen on the recently launched Samsung Galaxy A8+, the fingerprint sensor will be moved to a more ergonomic position, unlike the Galaxy S8 and Note8.

A recent leak also revealed a lot of features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 courtesy, the image of a leaked retail box.

    Galaxy S9+ Case Renders

Other features include an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, an 8MP front-facing camera and stereo speakers tuned by AKG. Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ also retailed with AKG earphones and this year, it is expected the same from the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+ as well. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

While the US and the South Korean variant of the smartphones will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, the global variants are expected to have the Exynos 9810 chipset under the hood.

The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is expected to have a 6.2-inch display with the same resolution and aspect ratio. Under the hood, the Galaxy S9+ might have 6GB of RAM and more storage variants unlike the single variant of the Galaxy S9.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Retail Box Reveals Key Features

With the MWC 2018 just around the corner, Samsung Galaxy S9 leaks are coming thick and fast. While we already have a fair idea about the way both the smartphones will look, there are plenty of specifications that are merely speculations. This new leak might give us a closer look at what some of the features might be present in the Samsung Galaxy S9.

A popular leakster has posted an image of the retail box of the Samsung Galaxy S9 which reveals key features of the camera on the Galaxy S9.

While the US and the South Korean variant of the smartphones will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, the global variants are expected to have the Exynos 9810 chipset under the hood. Recently, the company talked up about its new chipset’s AI capabilities, hence, it will be interesting to see how the non-Exynos 9810 variants will cope up with that.

The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is expected to have a 6.2-inch display with the same resolution and aspect ratio. Under the hood, the Galaxy S9+ might have 6GB of RAM and more storage variants unlike the single variant of the Galaxy S9. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is also expected to have a dual-camera setup at the back which might be similar to the one found on the Samsung Galaxy Note8.

The smartphones will be unveiled at MWC as confirmed by Samsung Mobile president, DJ Koh. More details and pricing will also be announced at the launch event.

  • Samsung Galaxy S8 And S8+ Android 8.0 Oreo Is Coming Soon

Samsung Galaxy S8 And S8+ Android 8.0 Oreo Is Coming Soon

The latest iteration of Android OS, Android 8 Oreo was officially launched back in August. While the Pixel and Nexus devices have moved on to Android 8.1 Oreo, some smartphones like the Moto X4, Xiaomi Mi A1, OnePlus 5 and others have already received an official update to Android 8.0 Oreo. Two of the most successful flagship smartphones of 2017, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ however, are still running  Android 7.1 Nougat.

Not for too long though, as Samsung recently rolled out the last beta version Android 8 Oreo for Galaxy S8 and S8+ users. This means that the official release of the OS is not too far away as most of the bugs, if any, would’ve been ironed out by now. Samsung is not known for fast software updates and recently launched the Samsung Galaxy A8+ in India with Android 7.1 Nougat running out of the box.

Read: Unboxing The Samsung Galaxy A8+

However, Google recently announced the Project Treble and early reports suggest that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will support Google’s Project Treble. With Project Treble, it is expected that the upcoming flagship devices from Samsung will receive the Android P update sooner than its predecessors.

    [amazon_link asins=’B06Y3GYZKW’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’61e57840-f78c-11e7-9f06-eb84335bd074′]

Project Treble is Google’s effort at reducing the time it takes for OEMs to receive the new OS and optimise it for its devices and then push out the update. A few months ago, Android received a new Vendor Interface, which is largely what Project Treble is about. The VI’s aim is to separate the “Vendor Implementation” (that is, “the device-specific, lower-level software written in large part by the silicon manufacturers”), from the Android OS framework.

What this basically means is that Project Treble compatible smartphones will receive faster software updates since the OEMs won’t have to spend too long customising the latest build of Android OS.

    Unboxing The Samsung Galaxy A8+

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A8+ in India at a price of Rs. 32990. The device is an Amazon-exclusive and will go on sale in India from the 20th of January. At this price point, the Samsung Galaxy A8+ will compete with the likes of Honor View10 and the OnePlus 5T. The Samsung Galaxy A8+ has a display that is reminiscent of Samsung’s 2017 flagship lineup with thin bezels and is also the first smartphone from the company that has a front-facing dual-camera setup.

Let’s unbox the Samsung Galaxy A8+ and see what we get inside the box:

    • Samsung Galaxy A8+
    • Documentation
    • Sim Ejector Tool
    • Wall Charger
    • USB Type C Cable
    • Clear Case
    • Earphones

    Initial Impressions

Right off the bat, the first thing you notice about the phone is that display and the thin bezels around it. It is nowhere near the screen-to-body ratio of the Galaxy S8 but, it is a refreshing change to Samsung’s mid-range lineup. The next big difference is the position of the fingerprint sensor. Unlike its 2017 flagship smartphones, Samsung has placed the fingerprint sensor below the camera, which is a much more comfortable position, until the in-display sensors become the norm.

The Samsung UX has come a long way since its inception and looks cleaner and feels much more snappy than the previous gen Galaxy A devices. The home button doesn’t have the same haptic feedback like the Galaxy S8 devices or the Note8. There is a single speaker which is oddly placed on the top right edge of the device, this will definitely prevent the muffling of sound which usually happens with rear-facing speakers.

    Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ has a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2220 x 1080 px resolution which translates to an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, it has an Exynos 7885 chipset, an octa-core (2.2GHz Dual + 1.6GHz Hexa) processor and Mali-G71 GPU. The Galaxy A8+ has been launched in only one variant in India, which has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Just like every other smartphone from Samsung, the onboard storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. The smartphone has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and supports Samsung Pay for contactless mobile payment.

Powering the Galaxy A8+ is a 3500 mAh battery which is charged via USB Type-C port.

One thing that might come as a surprise, especially for phones launching in 2018 is the OS. The Galaxy A8+ will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with Samsung’s own custom skin on top.

The Galaxy A8+ is also the first of Samsung phone to have a dual-camera setup on the front. The Galaxy A8+ has a 16MP + 8MP camera setup with an f/1.9 aperture on the front. The Live Focus feature lets users chose whether the background should be in focus or blurred to a soft bokeh. The phone will switch between the two front cameras to get the effect the user needs. To the back of the phone is a 16MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture and digital stabilisation.

We will be putting the Galaxy A8+ through its paces and if there is something specific you would like us to cover, let us know in the comments!

  • Samsung’s Foldable Smartphone Isn’t Arriving Until 2019

    Samsung’s Foldable Smartphone Isn’t Arriving Until 2019

It looks like we will have to wait for over a year until we can see a Samsung foldable smartphone in all its glory. Samsung Mobile’s President, DJ Koh has conceded that the company won’t be able to launch its first-ever foldable Android phone until 2019.

He revealed that the UX is the biggest obstacle Samsung is facing in commercialisation but assured that Samsung is working aggressively to overcome the problem.

This revelation from the Samsung Mobile boss falls in-line with a previous report that claimed that the Galaxy X (tentatively named) will launch in December of 2018. The report was published yesterday and provided a few interesting details about the upcoming foldable smartphone. According to the report, the phone would feature a 7.3-inch, flexible OLED display (built by Samsung Display) which would fold open like a book.

Further, the report revealed that Samsung engineers are currently tasked to with ensuring that the display leaves no trace of having been folded once it is opened into a flat position. Now, it appears that the display might not be the only thing worrying Samsung as DJ Koh conceded that there are issues with the UX as well.

The price of the devices is expected to be “ultra-premium.” Samsung is not a stranger to exorbitantly priced smartphones as its ‘W’ flip smartphones are priced higher than usual smartphones in South Korea. As per previous reports, the foldable Galaxy smartphone will be manufactured in extremely quantities which are estimated to be about 10,000. This could be true but, once Samsung nails the manufacturing process, it could increase the quantity if it is received well by the consumers.

Samsung has launched a lot of “industry first” products, especially in the smartphone industry. Over the years, it has maintained the curve display for its flagship lineup and continues to do so. The Samsung Galaxy X could be the beginning of a new flagship lineup by Samsung or, we could see this feature trickle down to its other flagship smartphone lineups, like the Galaxy Note series.

  • Samsung Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9+ To Be Launched In February At MWC

Samsung Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9+ To Be Launched In February At MWC

Two of most anticipated smartphones of 2018 belong to one company, Samsung. The smartphones in question are the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, and the company’s mobile business president DJ Koh has confirmed that they will be launched at MWC in February. The company has also confirmed that the availability details will be revealed at the time of its launch at MWC.

Over the past few weeks, multiple Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ leaks have revealed that the design of both the smartphones will remain similar to their predecessors with slightly thinner bezels and a repositioned fingerprint sensor. This will be a good move from Samsung which listened to its customer’s constant complaints about the ill-positioned fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8, S8+ and the Galaxy Note8 as well.

    Samsung Galaxy S9+ Renders

Similar to the bygone Samsung Galaxy flagships, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset in the US and South Korea while the rest of the markets will receive the Exynos 9810-powered devices. As mentioned above, the fingerprint sensor will now be placed below the camera in a more ergonomic position. There were rumours that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will have an in-display fingerprint sensor but, Vivo will take the honours of being the company to do so.

Recently, the RAM and storage options of both the flagship smartphones were leaked. A Chinese tipster, citing a company insider, posted on the Chinese social media, Weibo that the Galaxy S9 will be offered in two options, 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 4GB RAM/128GB storage. The bigger sibling of the two, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ will be available in 6GB RAM/64GB storage, 6GB RAM/128GB storage and 6GB RAM/256GB models in major markets across the world.

Unlike the previous gen Galaxy S devices, the difference between the regular variant of the S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be more than just the screen size and battery. Samsung will launch the Galaxy S9+ with a dual-camera setup while the Galaxy S9 will have a single camera setup just like the Galaxy S8.

While the design won’t be different from their predecessors, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are expected to have software tweaks and hardware enhancements in the iris scanning department which will, in all likelihood, compete with the iPhone X’s Face ID technology. It will be interesting to see if the Galaxy S9+ will touch the thousand dollar price point as well, just like the iPhone X.

  • 7.3-Inch Foldable Smartphone From Samsung Coming In December 2018

7.3-Inch Foldable Smartphone From Samsung Coming In December 2018

For months now, there have been rumours that Samsung will be launching a foldable smartphone in 2018. Till now, a lot of the information was gathered through Samsung patents but, a new report has claimed that Samsung will launch a 7.3-inch foldable smartphone in December of 2018.

The report was published earlier today, which provided a few interesting details about the upcoming foldable smartphone. According to the report, the phone would feature a 7.3-inch, flexible OLED display (built by Samsung Display) which would fold open like a book. The report further speculates that Samsung may even be showing off display prototypes for industry partners behind closed doors at CES in Las Vegas, USA.

Currently, Samsung’s engineers are tasked with ensuring that the display leaves no trace of having been folded once it is opened into a flat position. The price of the devices is expected to be “ultra-premium.” Samsung is not a stranger to exorbitantly priced smartphones as its ‘W’ flip smartphones are priced higher than usual smartphones in South Korea.

December sounds a bit too far since there are rumours of other OEMs like LG and Lenovo are also working on smartphones with a flexible display. However, it is fair to assume that a foldable phone from Samsung will definitely grab the headlines, regardless of the time its launched at.

Samsung has been known to experiment with smartphone displays in the past and has become a pioneer in curved displays with its Galaxy S7 Edge, S8 and the Galaxy Note series.

A report from the South Korea Herald suggested that the production of the Galaxy X would be on 100,000 orders, making it an extremely limited edition device. If this happens, the Galaxy X would be the most difficult Galaxy phone to get your hands on. Irrespective of the timeline of the foldable smartphone, it is expected to stir up the smartphone industry while more OEMs follow suit and launch their own iterations of a foldable Android phone.

Samsung Galaxy S9 And Galaxy S9+ Storage Variants Revealed

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ is inching closer with every passing day. The leaks and new rumours are galore as well and the latest one has seemingly confirmed the storage variants in which the two smartphones will be launched in.

A Chinese tipster, citing a company insider, has posted on the Chinese social media, Weibo that the Galaxy S9 will be offered in two options, 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 4GB RAM/128GB storage. The bigger sibling of the two, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ will be available in 6GB RAM/64GB storage, 6GB RAM/128GB storage and 6GB RAM/256GB models in major markets across the world.

According to the same tipster, the South Korean tech giant will also launch a special edition Samsung Galaxy S9+ with 512GB of onboard storage. Onboard storage of 512Gb will be unprecedented on a smartphone if Samsung does go ahead and launch this variant of the Samsung Galaxy S9+. The leaks certainly do hint towards such a variant but, it will be interesting to see if Samsung launches such a variant.

    Samsung Galaxy S9+ Renders

Both the devices are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset for the American and South Korean markets while the rest of the world will have the Exynos 9810 chipset-powered Galaxy S9 and S9+. The Exynos 9810 chipset has a lot of emphasis on AI, which means that the company is counting big on its facial recognition technology to challenge Apple’s Face ID.The display size will remain the same as that of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ with slightly thinner bezels.

While the Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to be priced similar to the Galaxy S8 (at the time of its launch), the Galaxy S9+, thanks to the dual-camera setup, could be priced close to, or higher than the Galaxy Note 8. This means that a higher-end variant of the Galaxy S9+ could be priced higher than the Apple iPhone X which was launched at a price of US $999 for the base (64GB) storage variant at the time of its launch.
