  • Apple iPhone 5s User Guide Allegedly leaks, Fingerprint sensor called Touch ID

Apple iPhone 5s User Guide Allegedly leaks, Fingerprint sensor called Touch ID

With Apple’s iPhone event a mere hours away, a new leak showing off the user guide for the supposed “next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5s” has surfaced. 9to5Mac reports that the “alleged” leaked document from Nowhereelse.fr is the inlay “quick user guide” that all iPhone owners are accustomed to, which shows that the home button is also a Touch ID sensor aka fingerprint reader.

    manuel-iphone-5s

To unlock the iPhone with the fingerprint reader, an iPhone 5S user simply clicks and holds their finger/thumb down on the sensor for a few seconds. It is unlikely that the sensor login and passcode could be used in tandem. There will be a preference in the iPhone’s Settings app to disable the sensor. – says 9to5Mac

Touch ID as a name could also mean that the sensor will only act as an unlock security and not as a app launcher or shortcut initiator, as it would on a laptop. Also to note is that Apple will be selling the phones with color matched wallpapers out of the box as the would on the iPhone 5C, whose packaging and box was leaked last week.

  • Samsung’s Exynos 5 will run all Eight Cores Together By End of 2013

Samsung’s Exynos 5 will run all Eight Cores Together By End of 2013

Samsung today announced its Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution for the Exynos 5 Octa to fully maximize the benefits of the ARM big.LITTLE technology. The HMP capability gives system-level designers the ability to develop solutions that might deliver the right combination of high-performance and low-power to carry out tasks like  3D gaming, complex augmented reality and advanced web browsing.

It’s usually assumed that the big CPU will do all the performance-critical work, however, power-efficient little cores can handle many significant workloads all on their own, so the workload is balanced within the system,” said Taehoon Kim, vice president of System LSI marketing, Samsung Electronics. “big.LITTLE processing is designed to deliver the right combination of processors for a specific job. An eight-core processor with HMP is the truest form of the big.LITTLE technology with limitless benefits to the users of high-performance, low-power mobile products.”

    Exynos 5 Octa

This technology will be available in the 4th quarter of this year, it will let devices access both sides of the big.LITTLE ARM configuration simultaneously, which the company claims will increase both performance and efficiency. While software threads with high priority use the “big” A15 core, lower priority tasks can run on the “small” A7 without needing to switch back and forth, says Samsung. Samsung isn’t the only one running this setup, as MediaTek also announced an improvement for its MT8135 back in July.

ARM big.LITTLE multi-processing technology delivers the highest performance and efficiency across the widest range of workloads,” said Noel Hurley, vice president, Strategy and Marketing, Processor Division, ARM. “We welcome Samsung’s continued commitment to deploying the leading-edge technology on their latest chips featuring the ARM Cortex™-A series of processors, ARM Mali™ GPUs and ARM Artisan™ physical IP.”

The video below shows, the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa has eight core processor, four little ones for small always on application, and four bigger application for graphic intensives stuff.

[toggle title=”Press Release “]Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced its Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution for the Exynos 5 Octa to fully maximize the benefits of the ARM® big.LITTLE™ technology. The HMP capability gives system-level designers the ability to develop solutions that deliver the right combination of high-performance and low-power to carry out tasks such as 3D gaming, complex augmented reality and advanced web browsing.

“It’s usually assumed that the big CPU will do all the performance-critical work, however, power-efficient little cores can handle many significant workloads all on their own, so the workload is balanced within the system,” said Taehoon Kim, vice president of System LSI marketing, Samsung Electronics. “big.LITTLE processing is designed to deliver the right combination of processors for a specific job. An eight-core processor with HMP is the truest form of the big.LITTLE technology with limitless benefits to the users of high-performance, low-power mobile products.”

“ARM big.LITTLE multi-processing technology delivers the highest performance and efficiency across the widest range of workloads,” said Noel Hurley, vice president, Strategy and Marketing, Processor Division, ARM. “We welcome Samsung’s continued commitment to deploying the leading-edge technology on their latest chips featuring the ARM Cortex™-A series of processors, ARM Mali™ GPUs and ARM Artisan™ physical IP.”

HMP is the most powerful use model for ARM big.LITTLE technology, as it enables the use of all physical cores at the same time. Software threads with high priority or high computational intensity can be allocated to the ‘big’ Cortex-A15 cores while threads with less priority or are less computationally intensive, can be performed by the ‘LITTLE’ Cortex-A7 cores, enabling a highly responsive, low-energy system to be built.

Software implementation is essential to maximizing the benefits of big.LITTLE technology. Multi-processing software controls the scheduling of threads of execution to the appropriate core. In earlier versions of the big.LITTLE software, the whole processor context is moved up to the ‘big’ core or down to the ‘LITTLE’ core based on the measured work load. In-depth study and analysis of diverse use case scenarios enable Samsung to achieve efficiency and high-performance, while managing power levels to deliver optimal user environments.

The HMP solution for Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa application processors will be available to customers in 4Q of 2013.

  • Instagram Hits 150 Million Users Landmark, Ads Coming Soon

Instagram Hits 150 Million Users Landmark, Ads Coming Soon

Instagram announced today that they now have over a 150 million users, up 50 million in the last 6-months.

The app itself – which allows users to capture and share video and pictures – is only available on two platforms, iOS and Android, plus knowledgable BlackBerry users can port the app over to their device.

Instagram also noted that they’re “more committed than ever to bringing you the best Instagram experience possible.” This ‘best Instagram experience’ will include ads. A separate report in the Wall Street Journal reveals that the company will begin monetizing its app “within the next year.”

Emily White, who the WSJ says is Instagram’s COO, is leading the charge to bring in big brand advertisers. She stated that although Instagram was bought by Facebook for $1 billion and has never made a cent, “We want to make money in the long term, but we don’t have any short-term pressure.”

The company is building relationships with brands that are already using Instagram to promote themselves for free. Those brands will have to be convinced that paying for ads is more effective than simply posting amazing photos. Instagram also needs a sales team.

According to the WSJ, White is considering the app’s Discover and Search sections as definite ad possibilities. White also said that brands are interested in click-through links from their Instagram photos to their product pages, but that is a pie-in-the-sky idea for now.

White’s biggest challenge in prepping Instagram for ads is the app’s 150 million users. Instagram has been ad-free for so long that any major change could send those users into the waiting arms of another photo-sharing app.

The company has already met with Ford, Williams-Sonoma and Coca-Cola.

  • Twitter App For Android Leaks

    Twitter App For Android Leaks

During Samsung’s IFA unveiling of the Galaxy Gear, Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1, they inadvertently showed “the redesigned Twitter app” for Android tablets. The basics of the app worked exactly how Twitter for Android smartphones operates, just optimized for larger tablet displays (similar to Twitter for iPad).

There was no firm release date by Twitter, but for those deeply into the social media platform – perhaps while watching TV – can go forth and download the app as a copy as a APK has founds its place online. While the APK is available for installation (thanks to the industrious folks over at Android Next), the installer package is tricky to get working. If you can get it to work, the app probably won’t run all that great. But, it’s a great sign of what’s to come, and hopefully, the official version of the tablet-optimized Twitter app for Android will be available soon.

For those who have been complaining that Android tablets aren’t getting all of the apps that they should, this is an encouraging sign.

  • Nokia Lumia 1520 Poses Next To The Xperia Z In New Leak

Nokia Lumia 1520 Poses Next To The Xperia Z In New Leak

Nokia’s entrance into the phablet space is fast approaching and the Lumia 1520 has already leaked out a couple times – once in the form of a press render and the other a blurry picture. A new round of clear images has arrived online and shows the 6-inch Windows Phone 8 device compared to a Sony Xperia Z.

    Lumia 1520

The images also show that Nokia’s currently unannounced device has virtually no bezel. Its previous handsets have not had massive bezels by any means, but they have been noticeable.

No details of its camera were published. However, reports have speculated that it may contain the same camera as the recently released Lumia 925.

    lumia 1520

Details about the phone broke earlier this year when it was revealed Microsoft was working on an update to WP8 that would support 1080p devices.

According to The Verge, the Lumia 1520 has a similar design to the Lumia 920/925 and the gallery of images also confirms a few specs: 6-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage and run Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update (General Distribution 3). Apparently the Lumia 1520 will be announced in the coming weeks and we’ll keep you updated on an Indian release.

  • Exclusive : Samsung to Launch Galaxy Note 3 and Gear on 17th September

Exclusive : Samsung to Launch Galaxy Note 3 and Gear on 17th September

We’ve got exclusive news about the launch of the next generation Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Note 3. The Note 3 was announced on 4th of September during IFA 2013 in Berlin, and was expected to hit markets by September 25th.

Exclusive sources at Samsung close to iGyaan have told us, that the company will launch the handset on September 17th and the 16GB variant will be priced under Rs. 50,000. This week a rumor pointed out that the Galaxy Note 3 will be launched for a price of Rs. 47990, and if we tie it up with the information we received from our source, it sounds about right.

India is one of the biggest markets for Samsung, and has been constantly the first tier to receive our products in the mobile division, this time it will be no different.

    Samsung_Galaxy_Note_3_colours
S View Case for Note 3

Samsung will launch the new Galaxy Note 3 at an event in New Delhi on the 17th of September and will have the phone available in the market by September 25th.  Samsung is also expected to launch all the new accessories including the new S-View cases for the Note 3, the Leather back case options and the glam cases, alongside the Note 3.

The biggest disappointment to buyers in India will be the chipset option for the Galaxy Note 3. With LTE a far away dream for Indians, the company will presently launch the Galaxy Note 3 with the Exynos 5 Octa chipset, also limiting Video Capture to 1080p and not the 4k offered in the Snapdragon 800. Samsung will however launch all three colors the black, white and pink , where the company expects a lot of female buyers for the Pink option, opening a new market of consumers.

Samsung will also launch the Galaxy Gear watch alongside the Galaxy Note 3, with an expected price of Rs. 18000. also to be available by the 25th of September.

It is also expected that Samsung will initiate a pre-order option with some bundles to offer for early buyers. If Samsung launches the Galaxy Note 3 at Rs. 47,990 with a bundled flip case, would you buy it, and in what color ? Let us know below.

Update : Although the 32GB variant was the smallest version announced at IFA, we have heard that Samsung may launch a 16 GB variant to keep the price low in markets like India.

  • Report : Apple Will Ship OS X Mavericks In October

Report : Apple Will Ship OS X Mavericks In October

Apple is currently planning a late October launch for OS X Mavericks, according to a report from 9to5Mac.

The late-October Mavericks release is planned so Apple could focus the majority of its software engineering resources on pushing out iOS 7 alongside the new iPhone hardware over the next couple of weeks.

Apparently Apple has chosen this later-than-expected release date so it can use the bulk of its software engineering resources to first push out iOS 7, which is expected to become available next week, alongside two new iPhones.

9to5Mac noted that, for the last two OS X releases, Apple has waited until the day after an earnings result release to make them available. And since Apple usually shares its Q4 earnings in October, it is possible we may see Mavericks shortly after the announcement. Additionally, Apple is expected to release a fleet of new Macs this fall, and it would make sense for their arrival to coincide with the launch of the new OS.

Announced earlier this year at WWDC, OS X Mavericks brings with it a number of new software features, including tabs in Finder, document tagging, improved multiple display support, and enhanced Notifications.

Apple will be unveiling at least one new iPhone at an event next week, where we may also hear more about OS X Maverick’s official launch.

NASA Joins Instagram, Posts Vintage Moon Pics

Behold! There finally exists an Instagram account that doesn’t contain images of Starbucks or obnoxious selfies!

Nasa has joined the world of Instagram – and had attracted 17,000 followers within nine hours of posting up its first picture. Making its debut on the social media photo sharing site, the agency posted an image from 1969 of the Earth as seen from the Moon.

Of course, NASA is no stranger to social media. The agency’s Instagram profile complements NASA’s strong social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube, Flickr, Foursquare, Reddit and other sites. NASA’s strategy with social media: engaging and inspiring the public with unique content.

    nasa

An image of the Earth, peeking above the alien horizon of the moon, is extraordinary in any context, but seems especially so amid the very ordinary stuff of Instagram.

Speaking about NASA boldly joining Instagram, Lauren Worley, NASA press secretary, said in a statement, “Instagram has a passionate following of users who are hungry for new and exciting photos. We believe we have some of the most engaging images on and off the planet — and we can’t wait to engage with Instagrammers.” Worley also said Instragam fits the space agency’s “story of exploration and discovery.”

Along with the new official NASA account, the agency’s Goddard Spaceflight Center and Ames Research Center also have profiles on Instagram.

  • Screenshots From Windows Phone 8 GDR3 Update Leak

Screenshots From Windows Phone 8 GDR3 Update Leak

Rumours of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update have been circulating for much of 2013, claiming that the new software will bring with it a number of new features that include support for larger displays, quad-core processors, screen rotation lock and more. Today is the first time that we’re getting a look at what may be GDR3 in action, though, thanks to a WPCentral forums user that claims to have gotten hold of a Lumia 920 that’s running the update.

User ‘xs2k’ allegedly purchased a Nokia Lumia 920 from Craigslist, the prior owner supposedly a multiplatform app developer. The device appears to be with firmware based from India and there are four screenshots posted so far.

    GDR3

As far as new features are concerned – Driving Mode mutes calls and texts automatically when paired by Bluetooth to a car, or you can choose to mute them manually. You can close apps in the multitasking view too, saving time. There’s screen rotation, so you can orient your display how you like, and custom sounds are coming to text, voicemail, email and reminder alerts. You’ll also be able to restore from back-up over Wi-Fi, which is handy if your device is wiped.

Obviously these leaked screenshots can’t give us a look at some of the bigger features that are coming with Microsoft’s GDR3 update, like support for large 1080p displays and quad-core processors. However, the images do serve as evidence of other new capabilities like closing apps from the multitasking interface and screen rotation lock, two goodies that we’re sure Windows Phone fans are excited to finally be receiving.

  • Alleged iPhone 5S Retail Packaging Leaks, Hints At Fingerprint Sensor

Alleged iPhone 5S Retail Packaging Leaks, Hints At Fingerprint Sensor

When potential packaging of the iPhone 5C leaked online last week it looked authentic. These pictures of what is believed to be the retail packaging for the upcoming iPhone 5S are definitely questionable. Who knows what camera the photos were captured with as they are all incredibly blurry – almost sore to look at – which leads us to believe they’re fake.

    iphone 5s

However, the box has a similar design to previous iPhones and clearly shows and iPhone with iOS 7, plus the rumoured 5S branding. In addition, the most notable change is to the home button with a silver ring – this addition could be the heavily rumoured fingerprint sensor.

Fox News anchor Clayton Morris previously claimed that the upcoming iPhone 5S would “have a silver ring around it” in an interview last month, while also noting the button is convex to make way for an embedded fingerprint sensor.

Regardless of what Apple decides to unveil, iGyaan will be in covering the iPhone 5S / iPhone 5C launch event on the 10th at 10AM PT — so tune in on the day of the event so you can follow our live blog for every piece of news as it happens.
