Bharat Electronics Ltd’s Solar Slate promises Froyo for 3000 Rupees.

Bharat Electronics Ltd has developed a tablet PC that would cost $70-75 (around Rs 3,000) apiece for the Ministry of Rural Development’s poverty survey. The company supply six lakh pieces this year, expected to be delivered by end-November.

Normally, BEL generates 80 per cent of its revenue from military supplies such as radars, detection and communication devices; its turnover for the year ended March 2011 was Rs 5,500 crore; the 2011-12 guidance is for Rs 6,200 crore.

The device will boast Android 2.2 Froyo, a Solar powered battery pack, and a plug in keyboard. The device also appears to have a usb input port and a resistive touchscreen.

Since the order coming in early July, BEL has supplied an initial 2,000 tablets to the North-East. They were made at a small plant that was added to BEL’s Mass Manufacturing Facility in Bangalore at a cost of Rs 7 crore. Depending on further demand, it may put up an additional line for Rs 20 crore, apart from tapping capacities at Ghaziabad and Panchkula.

We are already poking around to get some action with the device.

HP Launches Cloud based Global Authentication Service in India to Fight Counterfeit Drugs

HP has launched a new Cloud based Global Authentication system for monitoring the movement of Drugs, The first country to reap the benefits is going to be India. Hp plans a global systematic launch in the coming months. India was primarily selected due to the phenomenal growth in the country’s pharmaceutical industry, which also is seeing the development of a parallel counterfeit drug market. The service, which runs on scalable, cloud-based technology, also can be deployed in other industry sectors, offered in any geographical region and incorporated into an existing drug production system.

The HP Global Authentication Service allows pharmaceutical companies to monitor the movement of products through their global supply chains with a much higher degree of accuracy. This helps protect consumers against dangerous or ineffective drugs and enables pharmaceutical companies to protect their revenue and intellectual property from the growing black market.

HP technology is not only providing commercial benefits to our clients, but also is helping to save lives.      – Prith Banerjee, senior vice president, Research, and director, HP Labs

HP Launches Global Authentication Service to Fight Counterfeit Drugs. Cloud based service developed at HP Labs, will be rolling out in India first

HP has launched its Global Authentication Service, a cloud-based track-and-trace solution based on technology that has been used to fight the global problem of counterfeit and stolen drugs, estimated to claim 700,000 lives every year(1) and representing an illegal $75 billion global industry.(2)

The service is initially being rolled out in India due to the phenomenal growth in the country’s pharmaceutical industry, which also is seeing the development of a parallel counterfeit drug market. The service, which runs on scalable, cloud-based technology, also can be deployed in other industry sectors, offered in any geographical region and incorporated into an existing drug production system.

The service’s underlying technology engine was originally developed by HP Labs – the company’s central research arm – and the HP Software Professional Services Cloud Services Innovation Center to monitor goods in HP’s supply chain. It was later adapted for use in product recalls in the food industry.

The solution was most recently adapted and deployed in collaboration with the African nonprofit social enterprise mPedigree to track, trace and authenticate a range of life-saving medications in Nigeria and Ghana, with a rollout planned for more countries later this year.

The HP Global Authentication Service works in conjunction with HP’s global printing partners who are able to print quality labels in high volumes very efficiently even when required in some of the world’s most remote locations.

“HP technology is not only providing commercial benefits to our clients, but also is helping to save lives,” said Prith Banerjee, senior vice president, Research, and director, HP Labs. “The success to date with mPedigree and subsequent commercialization of our Global Authentication Service highlights how valuable social innovation initiatives can be in helping bring innovative service offerings to the market.”

    Background

As of 2009, India’s pharmaceuticals industry was estimated at $21.04 billion.(3) As this industry grows, so does the associated risk of a counterfeit market. While India is a leading manufacturer and exporter of high-quality generic and patent drugs, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development ranked the country as the largest source of counterfeit medicine, with 75 percent of counterfeit drugs worldwide having some origins in India.

    – Counterfeit drugs often contain the wrong quantity of active pharmaceutical ingredients, which can result in illness or death.

    – Counterfeit drugs account for approximately 10 percent of the global drug market.(3)

    – The use of counterfeit drugs is estimated to finance a $75 billion global counterfeit pharmaceutical industry.(2)

    – The World Health Organization estimates that counterfeit drugs constitute 25 percent of the drug market in developing countries.(4)

    – Across Africa, 30 percent of malaria medications are estimated to be counterfeit.(1)

Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 Launch dates Confirmed for India

We reported earlier that the Bold 9900 is coming in the second week of August. After a long discussing with Vodafone CMO Kumar Ramanathan, we were able to collect that the device is infact coming in August, but the launch dates have been shifted to either 20th or 25th of August.

All the stock for the Blackberry Devices is already in India and has cleared customs, warehouses are stocking the devices and sale of the device will begin almost immediately after the launch event.

We are really looking forward to the launch of this device, we truly support the fact that it will do magic for our Blackberry Division

He also said that the call centers were gathering record enquiries for the device, some stating the source as our website.

The Bold Touch 9900 will be RIM’s first device to have a qwerty – touchscreen combo in a candybar design, it also has the first 1.2 ghz processor to have ever appeared in a Blackberry device. A 287dpi pixel density means this device is going to be easy on the eyes. At just 10.5mm thick, this device will be the thinnest ever from RIM/blackberry.

The outside shell of the device is made out of machined steel, along with carbon fibre composite for the back panel. The liquid graphics based LCD display has a toughened glass exterior.

Pricing speculation still remains in the Rs 32000 mark, although a couple of iGyaan sources at Blackberry were able to tell us that the company is hard at work trying to get the price around Rs 28,000  during the launch or within a week-ten days from launch time. • Have an Android Phone, this Trojan will record your Phone Calls!

Have an Android Phone, this Trojan will record your Phone Calls!

Are you somebody important, do you work in a big corporation, or even for the government? Do you have an Android Phone? You might consider changing devices after reading this article. A new trojan app / bot that installs itself on any Android device via piggybacking over unknown source apps has found its way into the Android architecture.  Ca Technologies found that this easily built app lookalike trojan records your conversations and installs like any other app.

There is no solid information weather this trojan has been released into the world, or if devices are already prey to such a menace. It goes to say some developer could easily capture your calls and upload them to a remote server. The brilliant part about it is that while installing you might get a warning stating that the app will record your calls, but who reads the terms page anyway?

Next time you are installing an App on your Android device , especially via an unknown source, or patched apps, make sure you go through the permissions page with vigilance.

The website is in the form of an app or web app , which is fully based on HTML5.

The HTML5 app provides a great option for people who prefer to use the browser over native apps. Its two-column view is consistent with the Twitter experience you’re used to (on Twitter.com), and it takes advantage of touch gestures and other device capabilities.” said  Carolyn Penner from Twitter
