The Canvas Lite A92 also has the same set of cameras as seen on the Canvas A100, a 5 MP main shooter along with a front facing camera (0.3 MP). While the company has phased out the A100, this is a great way for the company to relaunch older hardware with a new name. For the price the specifications are quite okay, but considering that with a couple thousand more nowadays you can get a Quad Core chipset and a 720p display. With the mega success of their Galaxy Grand series Samsung also launched the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3 to win over the “phablet market”. Samsung is said to announce over a hundred new handsets in 2013 with their major focus on mid range handsets.

    HTC Desire SV Initial Impressions

The phone resembles the build and design of the One series, with along with the same speaker grills and Beats Audio. The orange color looks bright and nice, however it does not appear to be for everyone. The phone is sleek and the display vivid, the OS seems responsive on the demo unit we handled. You can expect a hands on in a few hours video along with an Unboxing and Review Video in the coming days.

The bigger screen definitely helps the overall look of the phone, adding a full glass front with a tiny display bezel boosts that. The Phone also builds on the Amazing Camera and Authentic Sound with an 8 Megapixel f2.2 camera which has “impressive low light performance”, the Beats audio “ensures the amazing sound” as claims HTC.
HTC South Asia President, Lennard Hoornik, told us ” The HTC Desire SV is especially deigned and targeted at India and will bring about something that no other manufacturer has been able to deliver, Amazing Camera, Authentic Sound along with the HTC legacy of Build Quality and standards.”
The HTC Desire SV is expected to hit the Indian Market in November along with the Windows Phone 8X the Windows Phone 8S and the HTC One X plus.

Breaking: Micromax will Launch Dual Core versions of A90 and two other phones : Mediatek

Major chipset manufacturer Mediatek recently released a press release, and has unknowingly confirmed that Micromax is working on dual core versions of the Superfone Pixel A90 and two other units.
Micromax will introduce the dual core version of its Superphone A90 along with two other models based on MediaTek dual core platform MT6577, expected to launch later this month.
The new MT6577 features a dual 1GHz Cortex™-A9 application processor from ARM, a PowerVR™ Series5 SGX GPU (graphics processing unit) from Imagination Technologies,  3G/HSPA modem, and runs the latest Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” (ICS) operating system.      MT6577 can support an 8MP camera, up-to 1080p Full-HD video playback and the ability to support high-resolution displays up to 720p (1280×720) resolution. The platform also supports dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth4.0, GPS and FM, by pre-integrating  4-in-1 connectivity combo.

Our assumption is that atleast one of the “other two phones” mentioned is an upgraded dual core version of the Superfone Canvas A100. While we are trying to get an official word from Micromax, you can read the full PR below.

The Dual Core, Android 4.0, 3G Smartphone Platform helps handset manufacturers in providing consumer the superior application and browsing experience at affordable price

New Delhi, 10 September 2012 – MediaTek Inc., a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, today announced that the first handsets powered by its dual-core MT6577 smartphone platform are ready to hit the Indian market. Micromax and Spice have selected the MT6577 to power their upcoming handsets. Spice plans to launch Mi 500, and Micromax will introduce the dual core version of its Superphone A90 along with two other models based on MediaTek dual core platform MT6577, expected to launch later this month.

The MT6577 features a dual 1GHz Cortex™-A9 application processor from ARM, a PowerVR™ Series5 SGX GPU (graphics processing unit) from Imagination Technologies, MediaTek’s proven 3G/HSPA modem, and runs the latest Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” (ICS) operating system. The platform integrates a dual-core application processor architecture widely deployed in the majority of today’s premium smartphones.

The MT6577 platform will help commence a new era in entry level smartphones by providing features which were so far available only in very expensive and high-end mobile phones, thereby further democratizing smartphones. The MT6577 can support rich multimedia experiences with an 8MP camera, up-to 1080p Full-HD video playback and the ability to support high-resolution displays up to 720p (1280×720) resolution. The platform also supports dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth4.0, GPS and FM, by pre-integrating MediaTek’s leading 4-in-1 connectivity combo.

Developed specifically for the fastest growing sub-$200 smartphone segment, the MT6577 platform will help bring unprecedented levels of user experience by boosting the application and browser performance of these handsets by upto 40%, compared to single-core platforms.

Dual-core processors account for more than 20% of the smartphone chip shipments in 2011 and should see growth over the next two years, becoming more prevalent in entry-level smartphones by 2013, according to market research firm Strategy Analytics.

“MediaTek believes that the budget-friendly smartphones powered by the MT6577 will surge the next growth of entry level smartphones industry in India. This platform promises lucrative prospects to developers and their customers by providing features such as improved user interactivity, mobile connectivity and rich multi-media experience at affordable prices,” said Grant Kuo, Managing Director, MediaTek India.

Finbarr Moynihan, General Manager – Business Development, MediaTek said, “The Indian market witnessed a dramatic increase of 87% in smartphone sales last year, with 150 models launched by more than 30 vendors. Some of the MT6577 capabilities such as the increased application and browser performance and advanced multimedia features will bridge the performance gap between entry level and high-end smartphones, thereby changing the market dynamics of the Indian smartphone industry.”

Quoting the findings of the information company, IHS, he said, “Smartphone shipments in 2013 are forecast to account for 54% of the total cell phone market, it will be the first time when smartphones will make up more than half of all shipments. Price-efficient platforms from MediaTek, like the MT6577, have resulted in growing sales of mid and entry smartphones over the past few years. We hope to continue driving sales of mid and entry smartphones in the coming year while democratizing their availability to Indian consumers.”

Elaborating on how MediaTek’s MT6577 is helping them provide unparalleled experience to their users, Mr Dilip Modi, Co-Founder, Si2i Mobility, said “MediaTek has invariably been at the forefront of introducing superior quality and easily adaptable products at incredibly affordable prices. Thanks to low-cost superior technology that is now available, we see a growing base of Indians switching from basic feature phones to advanced and rich multimedia smart phones. We believe that our upcoming mobile handset(s) powered by MediaTek’s MT6577 will help us bring the market to an inflection point in terms of mid and entry smart phone prices, and set in motion a new era of telecom revolution for the knowledge economy.”

Says Mr Deepak Mehrotra, CEO, Micromax, “We at Micromax understand and respect the value driven choice of our customers. We believe that the new MediaTek platform will allow us to take pocket-friendly innovation to a whole new level by providing exceptional communication and multimedia experiences to customers from all across India.”

MediaTek’s other HSPA smartphone platforms – the MT6573 and MT6575 – have been extremely well-received by customers and consumers worldwide, and are currently shipping with major international brands such as Lenovo and TCL/Alcatel among other top tier OEMs.

HTC will sell ONE S with 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 in select markets

HTC plans to launch the One S in two different variants across the globe. While the US, UK, Japan, Korean, France and Germany enjoy the new Dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, HTC will launch a different model with an older yet higher clocked S3 chipset for Asia-Pacific regions and some (as-yet unspecified) European markets.

So in short if it’s got a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, you’ve got the Snapdragon S3, if it’s 1.5GHz then you have the newer S4. Be very careful if you have been saving up for the HTC One S, India might just get the S3 variant.

Nokia CEO: Multicore Processors are a waste of Battery

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said that multicore processors are a waste of battery life for the consumer and nothing else, in a recent interview with a Chinese newspaper Yangcheng Evening News.

The so-called dual-core, quad-core mobile phones can only waste batteries, but not be useful for consumers all the time.

He also claimed that no iPhone or Android smartphone has been able to beat Nokia 900’s performance despite their multicore innards.

  • HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Review

HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Review

The HTC Sensation XE has been a low baller in India, especially because it was launched soon after the Sensation, added only minor improvements that made major differences. Here is our review.

    Build Quality

The Sensation XE, just like is predecessor, is built in a unibody fashion, with a sold structure and aluminum back panel with rubber edges. The front of the device has an outward curved gorilla glass which is shatter and scratch resistant. The HTC Sensation XE is superbly built and will last a lifetime by designers who took everything into perspective from the aesthetics to the functionality and the intelligent placement of the buttons – which by the way are extremely tactile and responsive.

    Specs

There is no questioning the latest hardware in the Sensation XE, the latest dual core processors a very high resolution screen, functional 8 megapixel camera with full HD video at 1080p not to forget the added Beats by Dre audio.

    DESIGN

The Sensation XE is still the Range Rover that the original sensation was, you can infact say this is a higher end model, especially because it does not add any changes to aesthetics except the obvious beats branding and the red accents.

    PHONE AND MESSAGING

Just like the original Sensation we got superior audio in and out during calls. The network performance was excellent and sustained throughout our test period. 3G and WCDMA performance excelled in the Sensation XE. The XE also continues the standard that the Sensation set as being the best in phone networks on our list of devices. Over all impressive.

The touchscreen on the device is same as the original Sensation, allowing 4 point interaction, what that means is that you can have 4 simultaneous inputs. What it also means is that you can use the onboard keyboard as fast  as you can move your thumbs. This allows for really fast messaging and the keyboard has nice and large keys considering that the Sense keyboard is one of the most coveted Android keyboards yet.

    Beats Audio + Multimedia

The Sensation XE not only features a Beats audio processing engine but also has one of the best included earphones/headphones with a smartphone. The iBeats come with a uniquely distinctive carry pouch and also have online microphone and remote for audio control. While you can’t compare the quality of audio to high end standalone headphones, these uniquely stand out far above normally included ones. Offering good, deep bass and excellent vocals. The device also instantly detects the iBeats, once plugged in, and activates the beats audio profile.

The screen is a brilliant qHD Screen with a native resolution of 540 x 960 px, large enough to put any phone to shame, not considering of course the Galaxy Note and likes.  The screen is also no Amoled or Super-Amoled display so don’t expect it to be as vivid. But watching movies, reading text and playing games is great on this device. The Beats audio improves the overall multimedia experience a lot, making movies, music and just plain old videos sound better.

The camera is an 8MP snapper the same from the Sensation, it captures stunning pictures and great full HD video. The camera app comes with a lot of features in the standard HTC style, which allows for a lot of tweaks to be made by the photographer at hand. On the front is a lowly VGA camera which offers decent VOIP capabilities and no video calling.

    BATTERY LIFE

    Values 2G 3G WiFi
Talk Time unto 9.5 Hours 5 hours
Standby time 48 Hours 30 hours 7 Days
Web Browsing 8-9 hours 5 hours 5 Hours
Video Streaming 4.5 Hours 3 Hours 4 Hours
Music Streaming 15 hours 10 hours 14 hours

In certain cases we saw improvement in the battery management on the Sensation XE compared to that of the HTC Sensation.

    Conclusion

Although not a major improvement over the Sensation, in terms of looks and performance, the little add-on definitely make a big difference. The processor bump to 1.5GHz improves overall device performance and does not affect battery life. The beats audio improves the overall experience of the device and the earphone make an excellent add on. The device is robust, well made and is built to impress, a definite up above the competition.

Both these tablets are set to launch with US carrier Verizon, therefore these will be sim free CDMA devices.
