Samsung Galaxy A5 and A7 2016 Review – Steer Clear

Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy A5 and A7 devices at the Samsung Forum. The mid-range devices come with updated specifications and features including OIS and a fingerprint sensor. The 5.2-inch A5 is priced at Rs 29,400 while the 5.5-inch A7 come with a price tag of Rs 33, 400.

The updated A-series take the S6 glass and metal design language forward this year and introduces them in the Galaxy A7 and A5. The A7 sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED FHD screen with 1920 x 1080p resolution and a 1.6 GHz octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage and 3,300mAh Fast Charging battery.

On the camera front, the A7 features a 13MP primary camera with f/1.9 aperture and OIS. The front camera also features a f/1.9 aperture.

The A5 upgrades to 5.2-inch AMOLED FHD screen with 1080p resolution. 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, octa-core processor and bumps the battery to 2,900mAh as well. A5 packs a 13MP primary camera with OIS and a 5MP front camera.

    Galaxy A5 1

The highlight of the devices is its new design language that borrows the glass and metal combination seen in last year’s Galaxy S6 flagship. The devices look and feel premium and great in the hand. Both the devices also come with fast charging capabilities, and you’ll get around 3-4 hours in 15 minutes if charge.

The UI of the devices is quick and snappy with little bloatware. All stock Samsung features are available including Flipboard and there’s isn’t anything new to be found here. The only downside here is the pricing of the devices which is now close to the Galaxy S6 flagship, especially the A7. This may lose a lot of potential buyers as those willing to shell out the amount would rather go with the S6 rather than the A7 given a faster processor, fantastic camera and other flagship specs in the former.

    Samsung Galaxy A5(2016): Hands On

Samsung today unveiled the refreshed models of the budget, Galaxy A5 and A7 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Galaxy A5 2016 model is priced at Rs 29,400 in India, and will be available through Samsung’s e-retail partner, Snapdeal, and other offline retailers.

The refreshed A5 features the glass and metal design found on the Samsung Galaxy S6. The A5 (2016) model also comes equipped with a fingerprint scanner. The phone will be available in three color variants gold, black and white. The A5 in terms of design, just like the A7 (click here for A7’s hands on), does look and feel extremely premium.

    Galaxy A5 2

The Galaxy A5 (2016) comes packing a 5.2 inch Super AMOLED display with full HD resolution. It is powered by an Octa-Core processor clocked at 1.6GHz paired with 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The memory on board is 16 GB which is expandable to 128 GB using a MicroSD card. 4G and Dual – SIM connectivity.

The phone has a 2900 mAh battery. This is a significant bump up from the last generation A5 which came packing only a 2300 mAh pack. To add to this, the A5(2016) also features Fast Charging which is sure to bring smiles on a lot of faces reading this hands on.

    Galaxy A5 and A7

The A5 (2016) offers a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. Both the front and rear cameras of the phone come with a f1.9 aperture. The rear camera on the back of the refreshed Galaxy A5 also has an Optical Image Stabilisation feature.

    Galaxy A5 1

The phone overall is nice. The refreshed A5(2016) does not come with great under the hood specifications. For the price it’s being sold at the return feels inadequate. Full HD display and 2 GB RAM without the capability of capturing 4k Video that even the Rs 10,999 Le 1s comes equipped with only shows the disparity between options in the market and what Samsung is offering here.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Samsung’s Galaxy A5(2016) is still stuck on 5.1.1 and does not come with Android Marshmallow out of the box. But for all its shortcomings what does work in the handset’s favour is the fact that it feels extremely premium when it comes to looks which might help buyers gloss over the hefty price tag that Samsung plans to sell this handset at.

Phone Cases Reveal Design of Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 Second-Gen

Krushell, maker of phone cases, has begun pre-orders for cases and glass protectors for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A3 and A5 second-gen models. The updated devices are set to launch in China this month and will see a European launch in January.

The cases for both the devices reveal what could be the final design of the Galaxy A3 and A5. The images show a pretty clear camera hump on the back of the device, which the cases try to level with. The front looks pretty much similar to the previous models, although the screen looks bigger with the display almost touching either sides.

  • Unboxing | Samsung Galaxy A5 | Hands On

Unboxing | Samsung Galaxy A5 | Hands On

With the launch of the Galaxy Alpha last year, Samsung attempted a new metal frame based design philosophy that also influenced their last major flagship, the Note 4. Samsung recently launched the A3 and A5, which are based on the same design elements, but come with a mid-range price tag. We unbox and take a look at the new Galaxy A5 from Samsung.

Except for their display sizes, both the A3 and A5 look identical. There is nothing on the top as both the microUSB slot and 3.5 mm jack are placed on the lower end. On the right, you have the power button along with two SIM slots out of which the bigger slot can be used as a microSD card slot. On the left, you have the volume rockers and staying true its, ‘Samsungness’, the main button sits at the center below the display along with the capacitive touch buttons. The pearl white color of the device is fantastic.

    In the box you get:

    • The Galaxy A3
    • Earphones
    • Charger + Cable
    • SIM Removal Tool
    • Information Booklet

The devices are marketed as selfie and camera friendly  and hence provide instant access to the camera from the lock screen. The touch felt responsive, and there were minimal lags in the time of use. The Galaxy A5 has a 1280×720 display which is a dissapointment as Samsung could have easily provided a Full HD display at the price.

The Galaxy A5 comes for a price of Rs. 25,500 and has more to offer than its younger sibling; the Galaxy A3. Stay tuned for the full review of the devices only on iGyaan.in.

  • Samsung To Replace Galaxy Alpha with the More Affordable Galaxy A5

Samsung To Replace Galaxy Alpha with the More Affordable Galaxy A5

Galaxy Alpha marked the start of whole new design policy for Samsung. Even though, there were couple of shortcomings, such as the battery life and its full flagship price; it did compete in the high-end smartphone segment with more complete devices.

Now, just 3 months after its launch, Samsung has decided discontinue the Galaxy Alpha and replace it with more affordable successor Galaxy A5.

The 5-inch A5, which launched in China last month, is a continuation of the Alpha’s design philosophy, emphasizing its sleekness and high-quality metal construction. However, the Galaxy A5’s decent specs allow it to be more affordable and give the company a chance to garner larger market which Galaxy Alpha failed to do.

Samsung galaxy A5 sports a 5-inch display with HD (1280×720 pixels) screen resolution. Under the hood, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor runs the phone, paired with 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card. On the camera front, the phone packs a 13-megapixel shooter at the rear and a 5-megapixel snapper upfront. It comes with a 2,300mAh battery to keep the device running. On the software front, the phone comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. The phone will be available in five colour variants.

Galaxy A5 launched in China for 400,000 won (approx. Rs. 24,000). There’s plenty of work ahead for the company  but if the company lives up to the promise made, 2015 will be a fundamentally different year to the repetitively iterative products the company has been serving up in recent times.

  • Samsung Galaxy A5 China Pricing Revealed

Samsung Galaxy A5 China Pricing Revealed

It’s been a month since Samsung unveiled its budget metal-clad smartphone Galaxy A5, however, the company did not confirm any pricing details about the device.

The dual-SIM version of the Samsung Galaxy A5 is now listed on the company’s official China website for CNY 2599 (which translates to Rs. 26,000 approximately). While Samsung has listed the Galaxy A5’s pricing on the website, it does not provide an online purchase option and, instead, guides users to retail stores.

As far as the specifications of the A5 are concerned, the phone sports a 5-inch display with HD (1280×720 pixels) screen resolution. The phone will be available in five colour variants.

    samsung_galaxy_a5_dual_sim_china_with_price_screenshot_official

The website hasn’t listed the Galaxy A3 as yet, but we expect that the company will also offer a dual-SIM variant of the smartphone, just like Galaxy A5. Samsung has started selling the Galaxy A5 in China as announced during the launch event. As for now, there is no news of its availability outside China, however, we can expect it to launch next month in other markets as well. Samsung is yet to list the smaller but similarly built Galaxy A3.

Originally, the company planned for Q3 launch for both devices, but because of some difficulties in producing the metal casings for its first full-metal unibody designed smartphones, the company delayed the launch. Earlier this month, a report stated that the rollout of the Samsung’s Galaxy A series was delayed due to the above mentioned problem, but the smartphone would still hit ‘select markets’ including China in November.

  • Samsung is Reportedly Working on a Brand New Smartphone Lineup

Samsung is Reportedly Working on a Brand New Smartphone Lineup

Samsung is heading towards a better future; at least, that’s what it is trying to do. With the recent market loss and bad financial earnings, the company needs to make some changes to its smartphone lineup. Recent reports have suggested that the company is finally listening to the consumers and mending their ways.

The South Korea-based electronic giant has recently launched a couple of premium metal smartphones, the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5, and is expected to design the Galaxy S6 — aka Project Zero — from scratch. Furthermore, SamMobile has learned that Samsung is also working on a new series of smartphones.

According to the report, Samsung might finally ditch the silly naming conventions by launching the new series of smartphones. A source from SamMobile said, “Samsung will soon come up with a new smartphone range with single letter naming convention, similar to that of the Galaxy A series.”

However, the source didn’t share what the new family will be called. Thus, you can say a goodbye to silly handset names like the once-glorious Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch. Other details about this Samsung smartphone family are still under wraps, so it’s unclear what they’ll have to offer in terms of specs or design.

For what is known, the metal-only Galaxy A series will soon hit the international market. The Galaxy A7 is expected to feature a 5.2-inch 1080p display, octa-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal storage, a 12-megapixel camera, and a 4.7-megapixel front camera. On the software front, it will run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.

As for Galaxy A5, it is said to come with a 5.2-inch HD display, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 16 GB internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, and a 2,300mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy A Series Expected Arrive in Early November

Samsung’s Galaxy A series has been in rumors since the past few months, but with the revelations made by a Tech journal, Korea IT Times, it is now clear that Samsung is all set to launch the new A series smartphones as early as next month. The new handsets that are said to be the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 are expected to come with a premium metallic material, just like Galaxy Alpha. According to the report submitted by Korea IT Times, the smartphones will be launched in China first, followed by selected markets, and will be available shortly after the launch.

It is said that the new Galaxy A series is directly targeted at Xiaomi, which was recently designated as the third-largest smartphone maker in the world by IDC. While Xiaomi is only catering to selected Asian countries, it has swelled its shipment three times since last year, only lagging behind Samsung and Apple.

    Galaxy-A5-render

According to the earlier reports, the Galaxy A7 is set to feature a 5.2-inch 1080p display, octa-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal storage, a 12-megapixel camera, and a 4.7-megapixel front camera.

Both the devices are set to launch in China next month with other select markets to follow. However, the news has surfaced that they might not see a mainstream launch like many other Galaxy phones in the west.
