Camera & Multimedia
The Defy packs a 5 MP shooter which has auto focus, but, lacks tap to focus. Hopefully, an upgrade from motorola can add that feature to the device. I
mages come out sharp from the device and extremely quickly. Video on the other hand is just VGA and could have been HD video at 720p. That would make the camera on the defy, a complete package. The fact that you can shoot images and video underwater is what makes the camera an extremely fun instrument to use. Video at pool parties anyone?
As far as media playback goes, since the device runs Android, it is capable of a vast variety of formats and supported codecs. Everything is available either free or at a premium from the marketplace. The device packs enough power to play all sorts of videos and stream movies from the internet. The loudspeaker on the device is simply “superb” packs a punch has great sound coming from a sealed speaker.
Call Quality and Battery Life
Here at iGyaan we stress on Call quality a lot. Especially since the DEFY is priced slightly higher than other phones, we wanted that the device perform well. We got exceptionally clear sound from the earpiece, even as the device was dipped into water several times it continued to sound clearer than ever. the microphone is also exceptionally good at doing its job. Motorola made sure that the earpeice issue was resolved before launching the device.
We got zero dropped calls in our 4 hours of testing and no signal issues what so ever. The device is just plain a good phone.Battery life was also pretty impressive we got on an average 5 hours of talk time on the device. About 8-9 hours on media playback, 6 hours of internet browsing and about 20-24hours of music playback. All of this with the WIFI on. The battery is a 1500mah battery, the large capacity plays a huge role in such battery performance.
OPERATING SYSTEM
The Defy runs Android 2.1 with MOTO BLUR- (yes MOTO BLUR works perfectly in INDIA). The performance of the device is great with a few hiccups here and there. The upgrade to ANdroid 2.2 should be rolled out soon, and should remove the lagging in the processor. Since this device has a 800 mhz cortex A8 processor , flash would work perfectly in the browser. We would also definitely love the move to sd card option.Currently in its state the Moto Blur and customized UI from Motorola add to the experience of the OS. The OS is color-ful and has a lot of unique customizations that make life that much easier while using the DEFY.
Conclusion
An extremely well built phone / device with somewhat all the latest features. It does lack a few things (HD video, Android 2.2) but atleast a software upgrade would bring one of them. Water resistant and dust proof had us from the get go. The device is an absolute must for the outgoing individual, an outdoor person or even a clumsy fellow.Priced at 18,000/- INR

“Hello, India!” says the iPad after a whole year of its launch in the United States, Apple iPad is finally available in India. News is that Apple is all set to Announce the iPad 2 – or the second gen iPad- this means that as India we again got booted. The iPhone 3Gs came to India just a month before the iPhone 4 was launched, till date the iPhone 4 is yet to be seen heading to India.
The iPad Specs remain the same – 16Gb – Wifi only model – starting price – 27,000 INR. thats about RS. 4000 more than the US price.

How to- Root HTC DESIRE HD – included Downgrade from 1.72.405.3 to 1.32
So we finally found a perfectly stable way to downgrade and root the HTC DESIRE HD. All credit goes to the devolopers at XDA-DEVELOPERS.com we are just bringing this guide for our readers in a simplified manner.
Warning: Please note you are doing this at your own risk! there is a high chance that this might damage your device, or make it inoperable. ALL FILES AND TOOLS MENTIONED IN THIS WRITEUP ARE PROPERTIES OF THE DEVELOPERS
THIS GUIDE IS PURELY FOR EDUCATION
This guide has been made considering your device is factory unlocked.
Now that legalities are out of the way lets begin!
PART 1 : Downgrade
First and foremost check the version of your bootloader.
Do this by going to the about phone panel in the settings folder.
If its 1.72 and above then follow part 1 – else move to part 2
Lets begin
What you need :
- HTC Sync (or ADB drivers)
- Desire HD with build number 1.72 or higher
- Make sure the battery is fully charged
What needs to be done:
Step one
- Download the attached file from here (right click to save file as)
- extract the file to reveal a downgrade folder and copy it onto your C drive
Step Two
- Download this file stock 1.32 PD98IMG.zip
- keep it safe
Step Three
- Connect Desire HD to a computer. Charge only, USB Debugging enabled!
Step Four
- Open Command prompt and navigate to the downgrade folder
- If you placed the downgrade folder in your c: drive type in cd/Downgrade
- It should show C:\Downgrade>
Step Five
Carefully type in the following commands one by one
- adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
- adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
- adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
- adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
- adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
- adb shell
If you got “#” in the result, you have temproot! Proceed:
Now type the following one by one
- cd /data/local/tmp
- ./misc_version -s 1.31.405.3
After its done
- Put PD98IMG.zip to your SD card. You can close the cmd.
- Reboot while holding volume down, it will go to the bootloader
- Let it run the process
- When it asks – do you want to start update
- Press the volume up button to begin
- Let it complete and then boot the phone
Once you phone boots up – you have successfully downgraded to 1.32 bootloader, all your data has been erased and you will start with a fresh device.To begin rooting proceed to Part 2
PART 2 Rooting The Desire HD
To root your HTC Desire HD you will need the Visionary tool found here
What you need
- HTC Desire HD with bootloaded 1.32
- Visi0nary tool from the link
How you will do it
Step one
- Download and copy visi0nary tool to your sdcard
Step two
- Install and run visionary
Step three
- once visionary is running check “Set system r/w after root”
- and click Temproot now wait patiently till it finishes.
- once you have successfully Temprooted
- Click PermRoot the device and wait for it to restart the Device.
Once your Desire HD reboots – you have successfully rooted your DHD – and you will get superuser permissions.
The next thing you want to do is to S-off the device
For that : What you need
- Windows XP SP2 or higher
- .NET Framework 4.0
- HTC Sync (or ADB drivers)
- Desire HD with stock kernel (or Apache14’s 1.0.7 / 1.1.4 Sense)
- It will not work on 1.72.405.3 or higher build, or new radio. Downgrade first (using Part 1)
Step one
- Download this file HERE (right click and save file as)
- Extract the folder and run “Desire HD easy radio tool.exe”
Step two
- Connect Desire HD – charge only mode + usb debugging on
Step three
- In “Desire HD easy radio tool.exe” select option 3 and click “do it now”
- wait for it to finish
You have now fully completed the Root process along with downgrade if applicable. If you already know how then you are ready to install custom roms on this. If not, then wait for our second update on the HTC desire HD – which will shine some light on that.

Update 2 : Motorola Defy India Launch!
As much as we would like to give you information, Motorola has told us to hold the news. The company is unable to Launch the device as the handsets have not yet reached distributers and therefore launch has been continually postponed. As, in the case of the Desire HD, This is information provided to us by Motorola, and as always we do not hold responsibility for the launch of the device, but, for providing information to our viewers.We will release the Unboxing video as soon as we get a go ahead from Moto. In the meantime read what MOTO said to us.
Dear Bharat,
While we appreciate the constant updates on the release of the device on iGyaan. We would like to inform you that the device will not launching as promised and would be delayed by a few days. Our stock has not yet reached the distribution points and thus we would be delaying the launch.
Please hold further news till the time we can issue you a go-ahead. Information and videos of the test device may also be released then.
We will withhold the name of the sender for privacy sake. Rest assured, the first information on the release of the Device will be provided by us.
Update 2: Mr. Kapil Gupta (sales head for Delhi – Salora Int.) says:
The unit will be launched in the first few days of the next week, latest by Wednesday. Motorola is following a conduct with this device- and is not willing to release it before all units have been billed by the dealers and stocked.
The price of the unit will be upwards of 19,000 Rupees, thats all i can comment right now.
We will continue to provide all the relevant information as we get it. We will upload the video one we get a go ahead from Moto.

The Apple iPad 2 – What we know So Far
Apple has its devices on a yearly refresh, every year around the same time, you get an upgraded version of the iPhone, the iPod, Macbooks etc. Just like that the iPad will also see a refresh. We started hearing rumors of iPad’s redesigned structure and obvious design changes in November 2010.
Now the iPad, was announced in the last week of Jan 2010, we can expect a similar time frame for a refresh of the Tablet. Something has to be new and the Rumor mill has been running haywire over it.
Here are a collection of images over the past month and our thoughts on what the new iPad may be like.
New Structure
Images like the one above are renders of the carbon fibre patent that Apple had filed on May 18, 2009. This incorporates a liquid metal structure with a carbon fibre back. This would not only make the iPad extremely nice looking, But, also give it a lighter yet solid construction, immensely improving the antenna.
The likes of this happening are however, very- very low. We still have our hopes up.
Cases
The second wave of iPad 2 rumors came with iPad 2 cases. These cases started showing up at manufacturers across the china market, showing cutouts for the back camera and an new speaker cutout.
This shows us that two things that might come are the Camera on the back and a improved speaker on the next gen iPad. We feel there is a very high chance of this happening.
Facetime and Retina Display
Since Apple has been adding front cameras and retina displays to all its products in 2010, it wouldn’t be false to guess that the iPad 2 will have at least a front facing camera and a higher res display, if not a retina display. The new iOS 4.3 beta revealed some interesting information on the next release. A bunch of people snooping around the new files found wallpapers for the iPad that have the resolution . – 1536 x 800px compared to the existing 768 x 400 px that is approximately 4x the resolution (2x both ways).
We also believe, looking at Apple’s trend that the new iPad will definitely have a front facing camera and a Higher resolution display.
Gizmodo posted a good sketch of what the iPad 2 may look like, including resolution enhancement.
Engadget got hold of a dummy of the iPad 2 during CES at one of the case manufacturers booths. this showed a new design- with a flat back and a potentially larger capacity – 128 GB to be precise. This would be just brilliant for the iPad
New Rumors
After a series of breakouts, a whole bunch of new information has come into light. There is news of a new A5 chip, this will be used in the new iPhone this year and apparently the new iPad as-well. Whats the A5 chip? well the heart of the A5 is the multi-core ARM Cortex A9. Which will also be the heart of Nvidia Tegra processors that will be in the series of Android devices slated for this year, along with the Ti-omap processor in the Blackberry Playbook.
AppleInsider claims that Apple is moving to dual-core SGX543 graphics, up from the A4’s single SGX535 GPU. This would enable it to process graphics at 4x times the capability – and the 4x resolution included. We can also expect 1080P hHD video output, and an improved experience along with higher ram and overall enhancement of hardware. But, hey that what we want anyway.
Some more interesting pictures of cases have also shown up. this ones have to new cut-out – claimed possibly for Sd-card slot and a display out. We are highly skeptical that Apple may add a memory card slot to increase memory size, may only act as a camera card reader, But, nonetheless the SD CARD slot would be a great addon. The Video out port may be a possibility, But, then again Apple can use the dock connector for that and dont really need a dedicated video out port, Unless its HDMI.
So here is a a Final List of features that may or may not come to the iPad
- Facetime Camera – High Possibility
