Honor Play To Launch In India On 6th August

After the company launched a flagship and a mid-range smartphone today, Huawei is all set to launch a gaming smartphone soon with is sub-brand, Honor. The company has announced that it will be launching a gaming oriented flagship in India called the Honor Play on 8th August. The smartphone will be an Amazon exclusive device. For people in India who were waiting for Xiaomi’s Black Shark smartphone, this is exciting news. The Honor Play first launched in China in the month of June.

    Huawei Nova 3

The trend of launching gaming smartphones has picked up the pace in the recent years. Brands like the Asus ROG and Razer, which usually make gaming PCs, have launched their own gaming smartphones. The Asus ROG was the world’s first smartphone to launch with a 3D vapour-chamber cooling system. While the Razer gaming phone was the world’s smartphone with a 120Hz screen. Now the Huawei sub-brand, Honor, is launching the company’s first gaming-focused smartphone in India. Even though the smartphone does not feature any over the top hardware, Huawei recently announced their GPU Turbo software update. With this update, which the Honor Play may launch with out of the box in India, the smartphone can achieve better gaming performance and battery optimization. The company claims 60% better gaming performance and 30% less battery consumption than conventional smartphones.

What Does The Honor Play Have To Offer?

The Honor Play has a lot in common with the recently launched Huawei Nova 3. Both the smartphones have the same 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel with 2340 x 1080 px resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The smartphones also share the same Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset. This SoC has 4 x 2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 cores and 4 x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. The Honor Play might also have the AI shopping features unveiled with at the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i launch event today.

However, unlike the Nova 3 with a total of four camera sensors, Honor Play only has three. The primary camera of the smartphone has a 16MP sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and a 2 MP with f/2.4 aperture. The smartphone launched with two RAM variants of 4GB or 6GB RAM with 64GB storage in China. We can expect the same variants to launch in India as well.

    Pricing And Availability

The Honor Play had a starting price of CNY 1,999 (Rs. 20,238.88 approx) in China. We expect the smartphone to be priced similarly in India as well. The sale for the smartphone could start on the day of the launch itself. The GPU Turbo update is yet to arrive in smartphones. However, if the company delivers on its claims with the update, then this could be one of the best competitively priced gaming smartphones. We will have to wait and find out once the device launches on 8th August.

    Little Insight

    Conclusion

Companies like Oppo and Vivo are bringing a notch-less and an almost bezel-less experience. This toughens the competition in the smartphone market. For Huawei Nova series to do well, the company will have to price its smartphones carefully.

The Indian launch date of the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i is right around the corner. We will soon get to know how it fairs against other devices in its price segment. Stay tuned to iGyaan for further updates.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will have a 6.9 inch Full HD+ IPS LCD panel with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. The aspect ratio for this smartphone is 18:9 and the screen-to-body ratio due to the lack of the notch is 79.8%. The Mi Max 3 will launch with MIUI 10 out of the box, based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Xiaomi is likely to go with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor paired with the Adreno 509 GPU. The other likely alternative for the Xiaomi Max 3 is the Snapdragon 710 processor with the Adreno 616 GPU. According to some rumors, is also a possibility that we may see a Pro version with the latter SoC.

    Xiaomi Mi Max3

The phone is expected to be launched in three storage and RAM variants. The first variant will have 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The other variant will have a 4GB RAM and a 64GB internal storage. The third variant will have a 6GB RAM and a large 128GB internal storage.

For the expected price of CNY 1,699 (roughly Rs. 17,400), Xiaomi decided to not put a notch on its 2018 Max smartphone. This is surprising, considering the fact that other manufacturers have adopted the notch, even for their sub Rs. 20K phones. To name one, The Nokia X6, which is yet to be released outside of China, has a notch. Xiaomi also has the Redmi 6 pro with a notch which will be launched in India later in the year.

  • Oppo Find X Launched In India

Oppo Find X Launched In India

Oppo has finally launched the Find X in India for a price of Rs. 59,990 exclusively through Flipkart. The company also plans on selling the Oppo Find X through offline stores. Pre-orders for Find X will begin from 25 July and the phone will go on sale starting 3rd August. The hefty price may be a turn-off for some people but it would be nice to see how well the phone does in the Indian market. Oppo is among the first manufacturers from China to release a phone at this price range. There is still no official word on when the Indian market will see the Oppo Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition .

    Oppo Find X
    Oppo Find X

The Oppo Find X looks astonishing with its unique and close to truly bezel-less design. The whopping 98.3% screen-to-body ratio is another feature which makes the Oppo Find X one of the top devices of 2018. The way this smartphone manages to achieve such a ratio is by moving the front camera behind the display. The front camera along with the rear camera is docked away in a motorized panel which pops-up when needed.

The two colour variants in which the Oppo Find X will be sold in India are Glacier Blue and Bordeaux Red.

The motorized mechanism has a high probability of failure. Although Oppo has tested the pop-up mechanism for 300,000 slides. The company says that the average person unlocks their phone 100-150 times a day. This puts the mechanism’s shelf-life to about 5 years of failure-free usage.

    Oppo FInd X Camera
    Stealth 3D Camera

The OPPO Find X misses out on a fingerprint sensor and instead uses Face Unlock which they call it the Stealth 3D Camera. The company claims that it is a bit more advanced than the software-based Face Unlock found on other modern day devices. The Find X uses a dot matrix projector to scan the face to allow the unlock, this is quite similar to the tech seen on the iPhone X.

Under the hood, the smartphone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Powering the smartphone is a 3730 mAh battery with support for VOOC Flash Charging. Out of the box, the smartphone will run Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5.1 on top of it.

The sliding module houses a 16MP and a 20MP aperture rear-facing dual camera setup. These are 1.26″ sensors with an aperture of f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps but, we know that the chipset can handle 4K videos at 60fps. The camera on the front is a 25MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture.

In Europe, the Oppo Find X retails for a price of 999 Euros which is why most people speculated this smartphone will launch in India for Rs. 80,000. The smartphone will go on sale in India for a relatively cheaper price. Stay tuned to iGyaan as we will be taking an in-depth look at the device.

The smartphone from Xiaomi will be available in two variants, one with 3GB RAM/32GB storage and the other with 4GB RAM/64GB storage. The base model is priced at RMB 999(Rs 10500 approx.) and the other one is priced at RMB 1,299 (Rs 13800 approx.).

There have been rumours that the Xiaomi Redmi S2 might launch in India as an Android One smartphone. The Mi 6X could launch as the Mi A2 while the Redmi S2 will be a more affordable offering from Xiaomi, both running stock Android OS. However, these are all speculations so far and nothing can be said for certain.

    Redmi Note 5 Pro

The Redmi S2 takes a lot of design cues from other Xiaomi smartphones launched in 2018. It has the same vertically place dual-camera setup found on the Mi MIX 2s and Redmi Note 5 Pro. The aluminium unibody design is also familiar along with a circular fingerprint sensor placed on the back of the smartphone.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD display with a 1440 x 720 px resolution. This translates into an 18:9 aspect ratio which has become the norm for even budget smartphones.

Under the hood, the Redmi S2 runs on the Snapdragon 625 chipset, a tried and tested SoC for Xiaomi. That chipset is coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM along with either 32GB or 64GB of storage which is expandable via a microSD card. Powering the device is a 3080 mAh battery, which will charge via a micro USB port.

    Mi MIX 2s

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 runs Android 8 Oreo out of the box with MIUI 9 on top.

To the back of the smartphone will be a 12MP primary sensor along with a 5MP depth sensor. To the front is a 16MP AI-powered camera which is capable of clicking portrait mode selfies using just the software.

The Redmi S2 appears to be another impressive budget smartphone from Xiaomi’s sub-brand. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi decides to launch the Redmi S2 in India as an Android One smartphone. If priced at under Rs 10,000 the device could be a great contender against the likes of Honor 9 Lite.

The OnePlus 6 is said to be available in India mid- May 2018 for a price starting Rs. 39,999. While this may put the brand out of the “Flagship Killer” territory and more in to the “Flagship” territory. The company is focused more on marketing and brand awareness which is also leading to a big hype for the upcoming OnePlus 6.

The OnePlus 6 is said to have an all glass design with a composite Aluminium frame, possible inclusion of wireless charging and a dual camera setup at the back. While the phone will have a notch, much like the Huawei P20 pro, users will be able to disable the appearance of the notch by making the status bar completely black, something, that should work well with the AMOLED display fo the OnePlus 6.

  • Moto Launches Moto Z2 Force With Shattershield Display

Moto Launches Moto Z2 Force With Shattershield Display

Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched its flagship for the year, the Moto Z2 Force with a shatterproof display technology. With a lot of high-end specifications, the 2nd-gen Moto Z phone will be the flag-bearer for Moto this year. It goes on sale in the USA on August 10th and is already available for pre-orders.

Moto Z2 Force has got the hardware to compete with any flagship device this year with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. It has Android Nougat out-of-the-box with a promised update to Android. Let’s just say, pretty standard stuff for an expensive 2017 flagship device. The USP of Moto Z2 Force is three-fold. It has a shatterproof display that won’t crumble after a few regular drops thanks to a shatter-resistant coating on the display. Next up are the Moto Mods, which is why the design and the feel of the phone have been retained, except that it’s much thinner now thanks to a 2,730 mAh battery. The previous gen Moto Z had a 3,500 mAh battery, so to ship a new phone with that big a slump in battery size, just to make it thinner seems like a tricky decision. What’s also missing is our beloved 3.5mm headphone jack, so if you’re still living in the good ol’ days of wired headphones then you need to either make a shift to the wireless universe or live the dongle life, a USB C dongle is included in the box. Another significant change is the camera setup. It now has a dual-lens camera setup with dual 12MP sensors with an f/2.0 aperture. One camera shoots in monochrome, and the other shoots in colour, similar to what we saw on Huawei devices and recent Nubia M2. The Z2 Force also has laser AF, phase detection but no mention of optical image stabilisation. Similar to Apple’s portrait mode, the dual-lends setup has allowed Moto to implement a depth-of-field effect on the Moto Z2 Force.

The Moto Z2 Force doesn’t have the edge-to-edge display from the Galaxy S8 or a huge / relatively large battery one would expect, but with a price tag of $720 (roughly INR47,000), it competes with the big boys of the current flagship market aka the Samsung Galaxy s8 and its bigger sibling the S8+, Apple’s iPhone 7 and 7 plus. The release date in India has not been specified and it is likely that the phone may not launch in India at all as the company stayed away from the Force variant last year.

  • Moto Moto G5 Plus Launched in India

Lenovo has launched the Moto G5 plus in India with a starting price of Rs. 14,999, while the company is expected to launch the Moto G5 with a removable back panel at a later date.

The Moto G5 Plus is a big departure from its predecessor, the Moto G4 plus. For starters, the Moto G5 plus has an all metal unibody design, while the Moto G4 Plus only had a polycarbonate construction.

The Moto G5 also is running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, a chipset that was used in the Moto Z Play, the company’s sub-flagship smartphone in 2016. On the front the Moto G5 Plus has a 5.2 inch LCD display along with a 1920 x 1080p resolution. It comes with Gorilla Glass 3 cover which gives it additional scratch and damage protection. The Moto G5 Plus also runs Android 7.0 out of the box that comes along with some simple customisations from Moto. You also get the usual Moto gestures, that include double chop for flashlight, and a twist of the wrist for quick launch of the Camera. What’s interesting is that you can now use the oval fingerprint sensor as a one button navigation tool. You can swipe left and right to go back or launch the multi-tasking window. You can also press it down to lock the screen or press it down longer to launch the Google Assistant.

Perhaps the most exciting feature is the camera now comes with 4k Video recording at 30FPS which is a first for phones in this price bracket. The rear camera comes with a 12MP dual pixel lens and the front has a 5MP camera. You can also capture Slo-Mo video at 720p/120FPS.

The Moto G5 Plus Goes on sale at midnight tonight.
