Top 4 Phones You Can Buy Instead of the iPhone 6s

While we’re all talking about the iPhone 6s, let’s also speak about it’s practicality today. Is it still a phone worth buying and burning a hole through our pockets when we have other smartphones such as the OnePlus 2, the S6 Edge +, the Moto X Play and the Nexus 5 – all of which feature similar specifications as the iPhone 6s and yet come at an easier price.

Briefly put, the iPhone 6s comes with a 4.7 inch display with 1334 X 750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi resolution. It comes with the force touch technology and an A9 processor. It has an upgraded 12MP camera and an optical image stabilization technology. It has storage options of up to 128GB and a relatively normal battery life that haven’t been specified yet.The physical dimensions of the iPhone are pretty slick and slim. It is afterall the ‘cool’ smartphone. It has an aluminum build and overall looks like a ‘million bucks’, and guess what else? It also costs a ‘million bucks’ (the phrase not the actual amount). Now let us have a look at a couple of other phones which have similar features and specifications. The best part about these ‘other’ smartphones is that you don’t have to take a bank loan to buy it.

    The OnePlus 2

Mind blowing Chinese smartphone, which is even exclusive (just in case you care about that kind of stuff). It offers a 5.5 inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution, and is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It weighs 175 g and measures 151.8 x 74.9 x 9.9 mm. It runs on the Android OS, v5.1 (Lollipop), has a Quad-core 1.56 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 1.82 GHz Cortex-A57 CPU and an Adreno 430 GPU. It has two storage variants – 16 GB with 3 GB RAM and 64 GB with 4 GB RAM and is powered by the Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810. It has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, which is more than the iPhone 6s’s 12MP rear camera and to end this description – it also comes with a 3300 mAh battery.

Now apart from the fact that it doesn’t have Apple’s super fluid OS, this phone is pretty awesome, and it comes at Rs.Rs 22,999/ 24,999 for the two different variants respectively.

    OnePlus 2 16

    The Moto X Play

The Moto X Play is expected to launch in India on the 14th of September promises to offer a 5.5 inch FullHD display, a Snapdragon 615 chipset and 2GB of RAM. Along with this it is fueled by a 3,650mAh battery pack which is allegedly good for 48 hours of mixed use and fast-charging. This smartphone is expected to be priced at around Rs.19,892. Oh and this phone has a 21-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash. Yeah. That’s right – 21MP not 12MP. One last thing about the storage, it comes in two variants – 16GB /32GB internal memory, expandable memory up to 128GB with microSD. There you go – 128GB memory, 21MP camera, better battery all at a speculated price of Rs.19,892. Even if this price goes up, it still won’t be anywhere close to Rs.60,000.

    Samsung Galaxy S6

Yes, it is necessary for a Samsung phone to be in this list, because like it or not, they are catching up to the iPhone. So this particular handset comes with a 5.1-inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution and 577 ppi pixel density. Runs on the Android v5.0.2 Lollipop operating system with a 2550mAH lithium-ion battery. It also has a 16MP primary camera with optical image stabilization, auto focus, LED flash and 5MP front facing camera and comes with a storage capacity of 32/64/128 GB with 3 GB RAM. There you go, almost all of the iPhone 6s specifications at a price of Rs.37,390 on Amazon.

    Galaxy S6 Edge + plus iGyaan 23

Nexus 5: This upcoming phone is expected to have a 5.2 inch HD P-OLED display and a 64GB internal storage with 4GB of RAM. The rear camera is expected to come with 13MP rear camera, f/1.8 aperture, laser autofocus, optical image stabilization, and dual-tone LED flash along with a 4MP front selfie camera with Iris detection. It might also have a 3,180mAh with wireless charging capabilities and is speculated to be priced at Rs. 25,600.

Now, honestly if you go to see, today the iPhone is not an unfathomable or game changing phone. Any Chinese vendor today can create something similar, even the Force Touch technology which seems to be missing in all the above phones. But honestly, who needs force touch? Most Android users actually have a happy life without it. It’s a strange and unimaginable thought for the iOS user but it’s true. Life goes on without having a crazy camera, or an exclusive phone that could potentially cost you more than mortgage payment does today.

We’d love to hear what you think in the comments below.

Google Hints at a New Device in Project Fi Video; Next-Gen Nexus 5 May be in the Works

The Nexus 5 has been touted as one of the best products to roll out from the Google lineup. The handset, featuring a Full HD Display and 2.3 GHz processor, came with an affordable price tag and sold like hot cakes. Now there are reports stating that the internet giant is working on a refreshed version of the flagship. The next device has tentatively been titled as Nexus 5 2015.

A technology portal called Android Origins states that a new version of Google Nexus 5  might release in two variants. The video released last week by Google on Project Fi also displayed a new device, which resembles the Nexus 5 from the front. The device render stayed for almost 16 seconds on the video with Project Fi support on it.

    Google Nexus 6 15

Google’s recent mobile carrier plan that allows users to switch between Wi-Fi and cellular networks is limited to Nexus 6 only. The company announced that its upcoming devices will come with support to Project Fi. It’s quite possible that Google was talking about the next-gen Nexus 5. Since it is called Nexus 5 2015, the device is expected to release sometime this year.

According to the source, both Huawei and LG will be working on the Nexus devices. LG will be responsible for the Nexus tablet or the Nexus phone, while Huawei can bring out inexpensive versions of the two.

Google Nexus 5 is No Longer Available for Purchase

Google’s 2013 flagship smartphone, the Nexus 5, which debuted alongside the second generation Chromebook Pixel, will no longer be available for purchase. As promised by the search giant, the flagship remained up for sale during the first quarter of 2015, but now, its MIA in Google’s Play Store and the newly formed non-Play store.

The phone’s page reads ‘The Nexus 5 is no longer available for sale.’ It implies that users who are interested in a pure Google smartphone will have to opt for the expensive Motorola Nexus 6.

Specs of this smartphone included 5-inch display in Full HD (1920 x 1080), the modern Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor,  2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of non-expandable internal memory. With this processor and 2GB of RAM running pure vanilla Android, the device was smooth as butter.

The Nexus 5 is not the only product that Google has stopped. The very first Chromebook Pixel, a high-end laptop that is powered by Chrome OS, is unavailable for purchase too. It seems like Google is on a clean-up spree, which could have something to do with the introduction of the new Chromebook Pixel with two USB Type-C connector.

Nexus 6 is Google’s flagship phone and can be purchased from the Play Store.

  • Spigen Cases for Nexus 5 Review : Seamless Blend of Protection and Style

Spigen Cases for Nexus 5 Review : Seamless Blend of Protection and Style

One cannot deny that Google’s Nexus 5 is one heck of a device and even after all this time, one of the hot favourites in the market. Owing largely to the fact that it comes at a relatively economical price and packs amazing specs. As you all might be aware, the Nexus 5 fares quite poorly in drop tests, hence, protecting your investment should be a no-brainer. So if you’re a Nexus owner, you should consider buying a case. Hence, we’ve reviewed some of the best Spigen cases for the smartphone, to make sure your investment keeps those high-end specs intact.

Moreover, they offer better value for money compared to what Google and LG have on offer. So without further adieu, here’s a list of some of the best Spigen Nexus 5 cases available in the market.

    ULTRA FIT

spigen ultra fiit If you’re looking for a form fitting case without adding that extra bulk, and at the same time don’t want to spend a substantial amount of money, then Spigen’s Ultra Fit case might be the perfect solution. It’s the slimmest Spigen case for the Nexus 5 and lightest of them all at only 2 mm thick. Made out of premium polycarbonate plastic, this snap-on case covers the entire back of the Nexus 5, leaving only the display area exposed. It is suitable for scratch protection and lighter impacts. Cutouts are made with absolute precision around the sides of the case to allow easy access to ports and buttons.

Overall, the Spigen Ultra Fit is as generic as it gets and is available in black, gold and white colour options. Like we already mentioned, it comes at a relatively economical price of Rs. 899 and is easily available on various e-commerce websites. It’s highly recommended for users who like to retain that original naked look, without adding bulk.

    ultrahybridnewULTRA HYBRID

Spigen HybridSpigen’s Ultra Hybrid case is all about adding that extra persona, style and personality to your Nexus 5. The Ultra Hybrid case also comes with a fairly decent quality screen protector and two back graphic designs that are visible through the Ultra Hybrid’s clear hard polycarbonate rear shell.

For the most part, the case is made out of soft yet durable TPU material that cushions the handset in the event of a drop or fall. In addition, the rubberised sides significantly bolster the grip on your Nexus 5. The case has also been slightly raised around the edges that protects your Nexus 5’s display from directly touching the surface.

Meanwhile, even though there are no cutouts made on the sides, accessing the power button and volume rockers isn’t a hassle by any means. Eventually, the case offers style while keeping your device protected and also comes with a screen protector.

Priced at Rs. 999 and available in four different colour variants, the Spigen Hybrid Ultra is one case that should be on every Nexus 5 owner’s radar.

    slimarmourSLIM ARMOUR

Spigen Cases for Nexus 5 reviewedThe name says it all; the Spigen Slim Armor case for Google Nexus 5 is a deceivingly slim robust case that sports a double layered design. And it provides this protection without making the device significantly bulky. It’s form fitting though some might argue that it adds some bulk to the overall handset size, largely due to case’s shock absorption and full enclosure.

There’s also a TPU inner case that absorbs shocks in the event of a fall and along with that, it has a polycarbonate midsection that further bolsters the entire frame. Spigen offers the case in four different paint jobs which include smooth black, infinity white, champagne gold and bright red. The case can also be easily wrapped around the device and allows easy access to ports, including the 3.5 mm jack as the opening is quite wide even for those fatter jacks. Meanwhile, holding it feels quite good in the hands. The Spigen Slim Armour case is slightly more expensive than its peers and is available for Rs. 1,299 via online retailers.

All in all, it’s a well-built case brimming with style while the quality, sturdiness and feel of the case is just amazing. And at the same time, it’s quite affordable, notably cheaper than official Bumper case offered by Google.

Certainly, a very good option if you’re planning to invest in a protective case.

    neohybiedSPIGEN NEO HYBRID

Spigen Neo HybridLast but not the least, we have the Spigen Neo Hybrid. In terms of aesthetics and design, it’s probably the best-looking case out of the lot and turns the Nexus 5 into one badass phone. At the same time, it warps perfectly around your Nexus 5, with precise cutouts for the headphone jack, speaker grills and camera at the back.

It features a dual-layered protective system, manufactured from a combination of soft matte TPU sleeve and polycarbonate outer bezel. The sleeve does its job of absorbing shocks or drops while providing a superior grip at the same time, while the polycarbonate outer bezel takes most of the impact in the event of a fall. It comes in champagne gold, satin silver, and metal slate colour options; needless to say our review case made the Nexus 5 look like a Batman accessory.

The Spigen Neo Hybrid looks fantastic, offers adequate protection and allows you to set the phone face down, courtesy of a slightly raised bezel. The case does add some bulk to your device, as a lot of us would want to preserve that naked feel of the phone, but it’s a sacrifice one can easily make. The finish does not even leave any fingerprints, while sweat and moisture from the hand jumps right off.

Meanwhile, fitting of the case is tailor-made for the Nexus 5 as your device is housed firmly leaving no gaps around the TPU sleeve. While port and button layout are not messy, making volume rockers and power button all the more responsive.

Perhaps the only turn off with the case would be its width. Though it adds just a millimeter or so, it made a significant impact to the overall feel of the device. Apart from that, it’s a great case which provides adequate protection and significantly enhances the overall look of the phone.

    VERDICT

Well, it’s hard to pick one out of the lot. All of them have their set of attributes that give them a slight edge over the others. Though it’s our job to pick the best which offers significant protection for your Nexus 5, and our pick would be Spigen’s ‘Neo Hybrid’. It’s a damn good case and not only protects the device, but also retains the original feel of the Nexus 5.  Combined with a tempered glass screen protector, we are pretty confident your Nexus 5 can withstand just about any fall.

  • Sesame’s Touch-Free Smartphone is a Boon for the Disabled, Operates Through Head Motions

Sesame’s Touch-Free Smartphone is a Boon for the Disabled, Operates Through Head Motions

It is quite evident that smartphones have become extensively useful and capable day-by-day. We have achieved so much as a society in terms of communication. However, there is still a section in our society which is not familiar with the revolution of communication in the form of smartphones, and that is physically disabled people.

Oded Ben Dov and Giora Livne, founders of Sesame Enable, want to change that. Sesame Enable is an Israel-based startup that has spent past two years developing the Sesame Phone. This phone can be controlled through voice or just with head movements.

Dov and Livne, using a Google Nexus 5 for hardware, crafted Sesame Phone with complex software that allows disabled users to use the phone with simple movements and commands. “Smartphones bring the world to us. But for people with disabilities, current smartphone technology falls short,” Sesame wrote on its Indiegogo crowdfunding page. “Sesame is the first smartphone designed for people with limited or no use of their hands. Offering touch-free accessibility in a small, mobile, and elegant form factor.”

This software works only with the Nexus 5 for now, but the duo is already working to bring it to other smartphones in the future. The software essentially uses a combination of facial recognition, gesture recognition and voice recognition to give users complete control over the phone. A cursor floats on the screen of the smartphone, follows user’s head movements which are tracked by the front camera of the phone.

Users can click and open apps with the help of simple pre-defined head gestures. Also, voice commands can be used to carry out the task, suiting the need of every user. The company has recently launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise an amount of $30,000, needed to continue developing the phone.

  • Top 5 Smartphones You Could Buy Instead of the iPhone 6

Top 5 Smartphones You Could Buy Instead of the iPhone 6

Apple’s latest flagship is finally out and the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in India from the 17th of October. Many of you are probably waiting to get your hands on one. Though it shows marked improvements from its previous iteration, the new iPhone faces stiff competition from its Android rivals. Furthermore, Apple has been criticized to adopt the new technologies and design in a very slow pace. With handful of smartphones already offering the same technology and productivity, Apple’s new iPhone flagship has already been mocked.

We are listing top 5 smartphones which you can buy instead of iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

    5. HTC One M8/E8

    htc one m8 12

HTC’s flagship is regarded as one of the best Android flagships right now. Sure, it has its flaws, but there’s still a lot to love about it. The HTC One (M8) measures 5-inch, with a chassis of 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4mm. When compared to the smaller model, it’s clear that the HTC One (M8) is a lot bigger. The HTC One (M8)’s 5in Super LCD3 screen is one of the many reason tech critics love this smartphone.. Throw on top a pixels per inch count of 441 ppi, and the HTC One (M8) boasts a crisp, clear and sharp display protected by super-strong Gorilla Glass 3. The HTC One (M8) is one of the most modern, accomplished smartphones we’ve seen in terms of design. With a fill metal body and elegantly curved edges, it more than matches the iPhone 6.

    4. Google Nexus 5

    Google Nexus 5 7

The Nexus 5 has a very competitive display with LG’s “True HD” IPS+ LCD technology which provides some pretty sharp visual quality. It has a 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD resolution on a 4.95-inch panel at 445ppi. Apple’s iPhone 6 launch revealed the company’s new mobile payment system, Apple Pay, which combines Touch ID with NFC to allow you to pay for items at point of sale counters equipped with contactless card readers. However, Nexus 5  gives you great alternative to this with Google Wallet and the built-in NFC and that too at a cheaper price tag.

    3. Xiaomi Mi4

Xiaomi Mi4 provides you with better screen resolution density of 441ppi when compared to the iPhone 6/6+ which are at 336ppi and 401ppi respectively. Xiaomi uses Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 compared to iPhone 6’s Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone. Also you get 1GB of RAM extra in Mi4 and a better cameras too (Mi4 – Rear: 13 MP + Front Facing: 8 MP vs iPhone 6 -Rear: 8 MP + Front Facing: 1.2 MP). And yes, don’t forget with the pricing, you can buy three Mi4 together in the price of one iPhone 6, once they are launched here that is.

    2. OnePlus One

    OnePlus One iGyaan 1

The OnePlus One shares the same display size as the iPhone 6 Plus at 5.5-inches. It has powerful video recording and imaging capabilities, strong performance components and much more, all at an extremely low price point. The phone also uses CyangogenMod 11S, which allows for an amazing amount of flexibility and freedom, unlike Apple’s iOS, which has several restrictions. Also, the OnePlus One costs a third of the iPhone 6 Plus and offers most of the same features.

    1. Galaxy Note 4

    Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4

Samsung’s newly launched Note series flagship has been appreciated by reviewers even before it has started shipping. The phone includes all software features of Galaxy S5, in addition to features optimised for the S Pen stylus that Apple can’t even think of touching. Samsung Note 4 has a QHD resolution (2560x1440p) while Apple’s new iPhone 6 has a full-HD display (1920x1080p). The Note 4 also packs in more pixels per inch at 515ppi compared to iPhone 6 Plus (401ppi). This means text and images would look sharper on the Note 4. Also, the Galaxy Note 4 is considered as one of the most powerful Android devices around.
