OnePlus Resolves Issue with Cyanogen, Indian One Users to Continue Receiving OTA Updates

The brawl between OnePlus and Micromax wouldn’t be easily forgotten by any tech follower. Cyanogen entered a deal with India-based company Micromax for exclusive rights on its open-source operating system. Micromax then dragged OnePlus to the courtroom for using its proprietary Cyanogen OS, but nothing was finalized till date. Today, the tussle between the two tech majors has ended and that too on a happy note.

The OnePlus India team has officially declared that there is no difference between them and Cyanogen now, and the software maker will carry on its association with OnePlus. It’s time for celebration for the Indian One users, who were deprived of the OTA updates from Cyanogen.

The OnePlus India Head Vikas Agarwal spoke in light of the legal settlement –

OnePlus remains vindicated of the recent trials and tribulations that has surrounded the company due to legal tussle with Micromax over exclusivity on CyanogenOS. We are happy to confirm that all ‘OnePlus One’ users in India will continue to receive OTA updates from Cyanogen in-line with our users in markets around of the world.

Vikas revealed that all legal proceedings have been resolved and the cases have been withdrawn through mutual consent. Cyanogen OS will send regular updates to all OnePlus One devices globally. OnePlus got embroiled in a legal case with Cyanogen on its handsets. The Delhi High Court banned the smartphone for some time, but it was suspended soon after. OnePlus was asked to come up with an alternate OS as soon as possible.

A couple of days back, Cyanogen itself came out to announce break up with OnePlus, but things have come back on track. Since there is no dispute on the usage of Cyanogen OS on OnePlus devices, there is a high possibility of the operating system arriving on the upcoming OnePlus handset, OnePlus Two.

OnePlus Announces Flat 50% Off on All One Accessories, Only for Today

OnePlus, the Chineses company famous for its flagship-killer OnePlus One, turns a year older today. To celebrate this occasion, a few days back OnePlus announced it had waived off the invite system globally. Today, OnePlus is offering a 50% discount on all OnePlus One accessories, throughout the day on Amazon.in. The accessories include, back covers, flip covers, screen protectors, and earphones.

You will also be surprised to learn that the company has slashed a mere some of Re. 1 from its flagship devices: the 64GB OnePlus One Sandstone Black Model (Rs. 21,998) and the 16GB Silk White Model (Rs. 18,998). OnePlus explained the Re 1 difference in its official blog:

    [quote text_size=”small” author=”OnePlus Official Blog”]

It’s a symbolic gesture; a reminder that the One is still a fantastic value without any promotions or discounts. We strongly believe that the One is one of the most amazing, user-focused devices on the market. We know that this move may seem odd to some, but our message is clear: we refuse to overcharge for our devices, just to slash prices later in a marketing blitz. Our flagship killers have an amazing price tag, starting from day 1.

OnePlus created a sensation in the mobile world after the company released the OnePlus One last year. We’re now looking forward to the company unveiling its next offering, the OnePlus Two.

  • OnePlus Expected to Announce a New Device on 20th April

OnePlus Expected to Announce a New Device on 20th April

There are several exciting things coming up next week. Two days before OnePlus’ competitor, Xiaomi, makes its global smartphone announcement in India, OnePlus may grab its spotlight. The Chinese company hinted via Twitter, that they might be launching something big on 20th April. Although they’ve decided to keep things mysterious. The image simply reads, “You’re Invited” along with a tag line “From here on out, anything could happen.”

Yesterday several reports surfaced that the company had decided to unveil the OnePlus Two in June. Could it be possible that OnePlus decided to move up the date, to stay ahead of the competition?

The OnePlus Two is rumored come with a massive 5.5-inch display with a 16MP primary camera and a 5MP front camera. Along with that, we might see a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and powered by a 3,300mAh battery.

But, the OnePlus Two is just one of the several possibilities. At the MWC 2015 in Barcelona, OnePlus Co-FOunder teased that the company was working on an entirely new category of product and hinted out three posters. The posters come with the captions: ‘Start a New Game’, ‘For The Fun Of It’ and ‘You’re in Control.’ The three posters hints out more towards a gaming device or a console.

OnePlus shot to fame after the release of the OnePlus One, a device that delivered high-end specifications at affordable rates. Sometime back, OnePlus also released the OnePlus Power Bank that houses 10,000mAh of power.

Which new device is in store for us will only be revealed on 20th April. Till then, keep checking iGyaan for updates.

  • OnePlus to Release OnePlus Two Along with a Cheaper Alternative By End 2015

OnePlus to Release OnePlus Two Along with a Cheaper Alternative By End 2015

The OnePlus Two can easily be considered as one of the most awaited devices of 2015. But it may not be the only new phone coming from OnePlus. A report published by Bloomberg suggests that the Chinese company may be working on a cheaper alternative as well.

Bloomberg said the OnePlus Two is set to launch in the third quarter of 2015, adding that a friendly cheaper alternative is due to release at the same time. OnePlus has not yet confirmed the news.

The OnePlus Two is expected to have almost the same features as the OnePlus One while adding an up-to-date processor, a 5.5-inch 2K display and a bigger battery. It is also rumoured that the new phone could also feature a high-tech biometric scanner. This could potentially increase the pricing of the device. Maybe, because of this, OnePlus might be working on a cheaper option along with it – catering to a wider audience.

The report also states that OnePlus aims to sell between 3-5 million smartphones in 2015, and 10 million by the end of 2016. OnePlus also revealed that the company is now gearing up to enter a new product this month, which is neither a smartphone nor a tablet. We’ll have to wait and see what’s up ahead, and knowing OnePlus, our hopes are high.

  • OnePlus One Retains Original Price Point in India Despite Increased Custom Duty

OnePlus One Retains Original Price Point in India Despite Increased Custom Duty

With the unveiling of Union Budget 2015-2016, the Indian government made clear that importing mobile devices is not going to remain cheap anymore. The Government of India increased the exercise duty to double and made it 12.5 percent on imported mobile devices; raising the prices of popular phones. However, the flagship killer of 2014 will continue to sell at the same price as OnePlus sent us a message which reads “No Price Hike” for the One devices in India.

Users can still buy OnePlus One at the original cost of Rs. 21,999 for 64GB model and Rs. 18,999 for the 16GB variant. The General Manager of OnePlus India, Vikas Agarwal, commented on this development –

In line with our #NeverSettle philosophy and long term commitment to the Indian market, we assure our users that we are constantly evaluating what works best for them; part of that is to continue to make the One available at an attractive price point.

He further added to his comments, “It is an ambitious step for a young startup, but for us, it’s about returning maximum value to our users by offering them great products and unique experiences.”

OnePlus One has seen a price hike in Europe, but it seems like the tough competition in the Indian market with homegrown makers (such as Micromax) has forced the Chinese firm to stick to the initial rates. The device is available in Sandstone Black and Silk White colour options and can be ordered online via Amazon India, that is if you have an invite. Both the 64GB and 16GB variants hold similar specification and differ only in internal storage space.

  • Pricing of the Silk White OnePlus One 16 GB Revealed for India

Pricing of the Silk White OnePlus One 16 GB Revealed for India

OnePlus announced the arrival of the 16 GB variant of the One in India a couple of days back. The Chinese electronics producer had cautiously unveiled just the device and not its pricing. OnePlus today launched the new 16GB One device in India with a price tag of Rs. 18,999. The phone will go on sale tomorrow on Amazon India.

As mentioned earlier, willing buyers will require an invite to make a purchase. To earn an invite, the e-commerce website Amazon India started a contest where users have to answer some necessary questions. The randomly picked lucky winners will be awarded with an invite to buy a OnePlus One (16 or 64 GB). The new economical version of OnePlus One comes in one colour option only – Silk White.

Throwing light on its specs – the OnePlus One comes with a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display. It is fitted with a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM. The phone runs on Cyanogen OS 11 as of now, but it will soon be upgraded to Oxygen OS, when it is launched. The smartphone comes with a 13 MP rear and 5 MP front snapper and houses a 3,100mAh battery.

Flagship-Killer OnePlus One to Go Invite-Free for a Day in India

All OnePlus One fans, hold your breath. The flagship killer is going on open sale tomorrow on Amazon India. The handset will be available without an invite on 10th February and the sale will kick off at 10am IST.

The company confirmed the same via Twitter saying –

The open sale is to celebrate the 10 brilliantly successful weeks of OnePlus in India. The same can be confirmed through the Amazon India website that reads – No invite needed. Shop the One. There is no announcement about the number of units going up for sale, however, the company has hinted limited stock with the statement ’till stock lasts’.

Amazon India egged the willing customers to hurry with the statement, “The sale would be for limited quantity which is expected to run out quickly given the high demand for the phone.” The flagship One will be available for Rs. 21,999 for the 64 GB model.

OnePlus embarked on similar sales in other countries, but Indians haven’t had the opportunity to buy it without an invite. It’s the first time the One smartphones are going on open sale in our country.

  • It’s Loud and Clear, Cyanogen Not to Provide OTA Updates for Indian OnePlus One

It’s Loud and Clear, Cyanogen Not to Provide OTA Updates for Indian OnePlus One

There has been a lot of confusion amongst Indian buyers about the updates on the One. CyanogenMod was one of the most prominent features of the OnePlus One. The regular updates along with amazing customizability features made the phone everybody’s dream come true. The Indian customers have had to wait a long while for the taste of the One and it got soured by the reports of Indian devices not getting any updates.  That fear, unfortunately, became officially confirmed today.

CyanogenMod officially announced that it won’t be sending any OTA updates to the OnePlus devices that are bought in India. The company had previously said in a blog post that it will be providing support to the global devices in India. The keyword was “global devices” and devices sold directly in India won’t be getting the OTA updates. The company made it clear this time around saying in its blog post,“If a user in India purchased a OnePlus One global device in channels outside of India, they will receive our OTA firmware updates. However, this excludes OnePlus One regional devices sold directly in India.”

The company also mentioned loud and clear that the reason behind this discrimination is Cyanogen’s exclusive partnership with Micromax to make the YU devices. If you still want to use CyanogenMod on your device then you can easily flash the CyanogenMod ROM on it. OnePlus still has a global partnership with CyanogenMod, so the global Ones are covered for a considerable period.

But this news shouldn’t get the potential customers of the One disappointed as OnePlus has said that it has better backup plans. The company plans to bring in its own OS based on Android Lollipop. The company says that a production build will be ready by as soon as February. OnePlus says that this OS will be bloat-free and will bring a stock Android experience along with the new Material design.

Though it’s an unfortunate news for the Indian consumers, many have waited for months to get their hands on the flagship killer. Cyanogen’s updates made the phone so flawless; OnePlus has a serious challenge of matching the rapid updates and bug fixes provided by Cyanogen. The company would have to come up with an exceptional OS of its own to keep the device on the high pedestal it sits on.
