Poco F2 Will Have WaterDrop Notch And Glass Back

Xiaomi launched the Poco F1 smartphone in the second half of 2018. Due to its aggressive pricing and flagship specifications, it shook the global smartphone market. The Poco F1 surely offers excellent value for money but it does fall short in a few areas. Xiaomi is expected to fix these shortcomings on the Poco F2 which has leaked online.

    Poco F2 Design

The year 2018 was the year of the notch and the Poco F1 also had one, though the notch on that device was thick and wide. The leak of the Poco F2 reveals that the upcoming smartphone has a small water drop notch and even thinner bezels. The front-facing selfie camera is housed in the notch at the top of the display. The earpiece for listening to voice calls is built into the top bezel of the Poco F2.

Like its predecessor, the Poco F2 also has right side mounted power button and volume rockers. The rear of the new device also gets a redesign treatment. The dual rear cameras along with the LED flash have been shifted to the top left side of the device while the fingerprint sensor is similarly positioned. It seems that the back panel of the Poco F2 is made out of glass so that the device emanates premium look and feel.

    Leaked Specifications

The Poco F2 has already paid a visit to the Geekbench website which revealed its key specifications. The smartphone will feature the Snapdragon Octa-Core SoC which is also present on its predecessor. The CPU of the device has a base clock frequency of 1.77 GHz which will easily go upwards of 2.0 GHz.

The Poco F2 runs on latest Android 9.0 Pie Operating system which most likely will be skinned with MIUI 10. The device in the Geekbench listing only has 6 GB of RAM but higher RAM variants are also expected.

Xiaomi Poco F2 Spotted On Geekbench, SD845 And 6 GB RAM In Tow

Xiaomi launched the Poco sub-brand earlier this year. The company’s first smartphone, the Poco F1 was initially launched in India and was later introduced in other regions as well. Due to its flagship specifications and aggressive pricing, the device quaked the smartphone market. The latest leak of its successor, the Poco F2 has been spotted on geekbench’s website.

    Poco F2 Geekbench

The Geekbench listing of he Poco F2 was first uploaded on 28 December. The listing reveals information like the processor and RAM capacity of the smartphone. Like its predecessor, the Poco F2 features the Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 SoC that has a base frequency of a 1.77 GHz. The particular device from the listing only has 6 GB of RAM. However, the company might offer the Poco F2 in higher RAM capacities like 8 GB or 10 GB as well. The smartphone runs on the latest Android 9 Pie which is most likely to be skinned with MIUI 10.

The Xiaomi Poco F2 scores a single core score of 2321 points and an multi-core score of 7564. Shockingly both the single-core and the multi-core of the Poco F2 is less than the 8 GB variant of the Poco F1. The 8 GB Poco F1 variant registers a single-core score of 2504 points and a multi-core score of 8174 points. However, it is possible that the preproduction Poco F2 is not optimised for maximum performance. Other key details like the camera resolution, screen size, and the battery capacity will only be released after the official launch of the smartphone.

There is no such thing as a perfect product and same is the case with the Poco F1. Although the Poco F1 packed the latest processor, it fell short in some departments. We expect Poco to fix these issues with the upcoming Poco F2:

    • HD Support- To keep the price low of the Poco F1, the company cheaped out and skipped the Widevine L1 support that disables the users from streaming HD content from Net Flix on their smartphone.
    • Better Build- The Poco F1 might be an excellent value for money smartphone, albeit it has an inferior build quality compared to other flagship smartphones.
    • Better Optimisation- Some might advocate Xiaomi’s MIUI as a comparatively better option to other Android skins. But the unwanted apps and bloatware like random advertisements in the notification tab or while viewing a folder is disliked by most.
    • Better Camera Performance- The dual rear cameras and the single front camera can capture satiable pictures. But the MIUI’s optimation does not do justice with the hardware. As some unofficial vanilla Android ports on the Poco F1 suggest that the cameras on the device are quite capable.

  • Honor Play Vs Poco F1: Clash Of The Best Budget Flagship Phones

Honor Play Vs Poco F1: Clash Of The Best Budget Flagship Phones

The Honor Play exploded into the market when it was released. The high performance device, set a benchmark for flagship killers and gives tough competition to higher-end devices. Everyone had come to terms with the fact that nothing could beat the Honor play when boom, the Poco F1 raced into the public sphere. The only phone to offer the Snapdragon 845 in this price range, it’s not just speed that sets the Poco F1 apart.

While the pricing of the base model of the Poco F1 is directly competitive with that of the Honor Play, the two devices do have many differences. The Poco F1 offers its 6GB/64GB variant at a highly lucrative price of Rs 20,999. Sitting just a little away from this is the 4GB/64GB Honor Play. The 6GB/128GB and the 8GB/256Gb variants of the Poco F1 cost Rs 23,999 and Rs 28,999 respectively.

    Display:

The Honor Play has a 6.3-inch Full HD display, complete with thin bezels on the side and a notch on the top. With a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels and a 19:9 aspect ratio, the Honor Play provides an immersive visual experience at 409 ppi. Not lagging behind, the Poco F1 gives a similar performance with its 6.18-inch, Full HD display. At 2246×1080 pixels, it gives us a density of 403 ppi.

    Processor:

This is where Poco F1 really hits the sweet spot. With Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset and the Adreno 630 GPU, the specs speak for themselves. Also adding to this is the fact that it is liquid cooled, which Poco claims will ensure that the Processor gives out peak performance always. Honor also brings on the heat with its Kirin 970 chipset coupled with its GPU Turbo technology, which has been promised will change gaming experiences for everyone.

    RAM & Storage:

Another segment in which the Poco F1 surges forward with its higher specifications, what really adds to this is the expandable storage. With a memory card, the Poco F1’s storage can reach more than half a TB in its top model, providing more power for the user. The Honor Play has upto 256GB of expandable memory, giving you all the space you need.

    Camera:

While both the devices have AI enabled cameras which provide extensive scene detection and other smart features, they do differ fundamentally. The Poco F1 has with a 12MP and 5MP sensor for its rear camera with an aperture of f/1.9 and f/2.0 respectively. the Honor play at the same time only offers a 16MP and 2MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and f/2.4 respectively. It can be seen that the Honor Play does not really bring flagship specs when it comes to the camera. The AI technology however, helps it overcome this hurdle. Another cool feature that we’re looking forward to is the special scene detection for India in the Poco F1 which shows that they went that extra mile.

Both the devices house their front-facing cameras in the notch. They are similarly equipped with AI and an improved portrait mode. The Poco F1 has a 20MP, f/2.0 sensor while the Honor Play carries a 16MP, f/2.2 sensor.

    Battery:

Neither of the phones come with flagship features like wireless charging but they do pack a punch. The Poco F1 packs a massive 4000 mAh battery and Quick charge 3.0. The Honor Play carries a 3750 mAh battery along with the Huawei Super charge 3.0. Each of the devices claim advanced AI and curated operating systems will ensure that battery life is further optimised.

    Is The Hunt Over?

While the two smartphones bring an unbelievable amount of flagship features to us for great prices, will they really make their mark? As both the phones are sold in flash sales conducted from time to time, the impact they make on the audience may not be that concrete. Although it creates a buzz and ensures that anxious buyers are always lined up to buy the devices, companies like OnePlus are in the lead in this segment due to the availability of their phones in the market. Let’s wait and watch as to how these new entrants change the Indian Market.
