Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo with 2GB RAM and a 16MP Camera Unveiled

With the earlier announcement of the cheaper version of the Galaxy S5, that is, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo, leaks about the device have been pouring in. Just recently an online retailer, Belsimpel, a Dutch e-commerce website, has leaked the price of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo, quoted at EUR 429 (roughly Rs. 30,000). The device has been on pre-order on a lot of e-commerce websites and is rumoured to start shipping by the end of next month.

According to leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo has a similar design as the Samsung Galaxy S5. However, it runs on the Samsung’s octa-core Exynos 7580 processor instead of the Galaxy S5’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC. The modem is advertised to be supported by Cat.6 LTE speeds of up to 300Mbps and a front camera of 5MP.

Other specifications include a display of 5.1 inch Super Amoled full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution, and 2GB of RAM, being quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The smartphone is said to come with Android 5.1 Lollipop. Camera-wise it features a 16MP rear camera with Auto-focus, which has been paired with a 5MP front camera.  Samsung wasn’t available for comments to confirm the rumour and are said to be working on the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5 due to release on August 13th 2015.

  • Samsung Galaxy S5 Takes the Ice Bucket: Challenges iPhone 5S, HTC One and Lumia 930

Samsung Galaxy S5 Takes the Ice Bucket: Challenges iPhone 5S, HTC One and Lumia 930

After a slew of celebrities, looks like its now time for the smartphone brigade to join in. There is no denying the fact that ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken over our social media feeds. If there is anyone still wondering why everyone is dousing themselves in iced bucket water, it’s to spread awareness about the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) disease.

The challenge is simple. If you’re nominated, you need to drench yourself in ice cold water and nominate three others to do the same within 24 hours. If you decide against taking it up, you have the option of donating $100 to the ALS Association. Since it started on 29th July, the organisation has already raised a whopping $53 million. A viral social media trend with a cause; we definitely need more of those.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 took the challenge. In the video, after completing the task, Samsung’s voice assistant nominated iPhone 5S, HTC One(M8) and Nokia Lumia 930 and gave them 24 hours to finish the challenge. A clear jab at their inability to withstand water.

By taking on the Ice Bucket Challenge, Samsung managed to do two things – spread awareness and raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and more obviously, it showed off its water-proof abilities.

Right Time to Buy : Samsung Galaxy S5 Price drops to an all time low of Rs. 40600

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched for a price of Rs. 52500 last month in India. The Phone however saw a major price drop and was selling at a price ranging from 47500-50000 in less than a week. The Galaxy S5 price has hit an all time low of Rs. 40600 available from online vendors and some retail stores. It is said that Samsung has seen a major drop in sales of their flagship when compared to last years launch and people seem to be inclined more towards Nexus devices, or flagships like the HTC One M8 or the new Xperia Z2.

Samsung also launched a Gold variant of the Galaxy S5  to lure the Indian buyers who were very excited to buy the golden iPhone 5s launched last year. The Galaxy S5 in India has two Quad Core processors (one chipset), one clocked at 1.9 GHz and the other at 1.3 GHz. Samsung claims that unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S5 has both the quad cores running simultaneously thereby giving you the experience of a true octa processor. The lighter applications are handled by the 1.3 GHz Quad core whereas the more power intensive apps (HD games, HD video playback) are taken care of by the 1.9 GHz Quad Core processor. 2 GB RAM is what supports the processors in the Galaxy S5. The Phone is also the first to be weather sealed and offers water and dust resistance.

Most have not appreciated the minor design changes in the handset and the back panel has been critiqued heavily of being anywhere from ugly to resembling a Band-aid. Performance wise Samsung has shown major improvements in the handset and it is possibly the best phone from the company today even though it has only 2 GB RAM. If you were eyeing the Galaxy S5 the time to buy may be right now. Read our full Review of the Galaxy S5 here.
