Yu Launches a Yunique Smartphone at Rs.4,999

While we had been egged to believe that YU Televentures was going to reveal Yutopia, the company went ahead and revealed a “Yunique” product. Yu has just released its new offering called Yunique today, priced at Rs.4,999.

Let’s have a look at what Yunique is all about.

    Yunique 15

It runs on the latest Android 5.1 operating system with Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 1.2 GHz with GPU of Adreno A306. The new smartphone comes with a 4.7 inch IPS HD display, with 1280 X 720 pixels resolution (312ppi). All this is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

    Yunique 19

With the LTE capability in hand, the smartphone seems like a decent deal at the price it is being offered. There are several other options which would also suffice – such as Phicomm Energy 653 and the Micromax’s very own Canvas Xpress 2.  However we’re still waiting to see if its build quality and looks help it stand apart.

  • Yu’s Upcoming Smartphone ‘Yutopia’ Expected to Come With 4GB RAM

Yu’s Upcoming Smartphone ‘Yutopia’ Expected to Come With 4GB RAM

We’ve already reported that Yu Televentures is back with another announcement of a new phone that will be launched on the 8th of September. Now, we also know what it’s going to be called – the Yutopia.

    yuwtmk

Now, considering the fact that it is part of the YU series, the smartphone should be more or less within the mid-range. Yu had pleasantly surprised its users with the Yu Yureka Plus that was priced at Rs.9,999 with all the right specs.

If reports are to be believed, Yutopia will be competing with the OnePlus 2. This means it will come with higher specs and thereby a higher price. But, do not fret, since it shall still be within the mid-range phones.

    YU Yureka Plus 6

Further leaks also suggest that the Yutopia will come with a 5.2 inch FHD display, which will be powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-core MSM8994 SoC. As far as storage capacity is concerned this smartphone is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Apart from all this leaks also suggest that the Yutopia might also come with a 21MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera with a price tag of $315, which is approximately Rs.21,054. This price tag is perhaps not so ‘mid-range’ as we might have expected it to be, however, we must note that these are mere leaks and speculations.

Yu has already started sending out invites for its ‘the next wonder’ – Yutopia, that is set to launch on the 8th of September (just one day before the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus). So, watch this space for more details and updates about the new Yutopia. Let’s hope it’s as ideal as its name suggests.

  • Xiaomi’s First Teaser of the Mi 5 Hints at a Fingerprint Scanner

Xiaomi’s First Teaser of the Mi 5 Hints at a Fingerprint Scanner

Since the past year, we’ve heard several rumours about the upcoming Mi 5. However, there has been no official confirmation about the existence of the smartphone – before today. The latest rumours about Xiaomi suggests that the chipset for the upcoming flagship, Xiaomi Mi 5, could be either a new generation of Snapdragon 810 or 820 or the MediaTek Helio X20 with ten-core tri-cluster processor.

    mi5 teaser

This information has been procured from AnTuTu’s result database. Therefore, up till now we know that the Mi 5 could also come with a 5.3″ Quad HD display, 4 gigs of RAM, a 16MP OIS camera and a USC Type C port.

However, the so-called teaser image also shows that there might be a possibility of the new handset having a fingerprint scanner. None of these reports have been confirmed so far. Stay tuned for more updates.

  • LG Announces the G Pad II 10.1 With Meatier Specs

LG Announces the G Pad II 10.1 With Meatier Specs

After announcing the LG G Pad 2 8.0 in South Korea, exclusively, fans were left disappointed with the below average specs like the Snapdragon 210 processor and 1.5GB of RAM. However, LG hasn’t given up and has now come up with a tablet with meatier hardware; The G Pad II 10.1.

It has a 1920×1200 screen which is a dampener but the rest of the specs are commendable. The Snapdragon 800 albeit slightly old, is powerful and 2GB of RAM for Android 5.1.1 is sufficient. It also has 16 GB of storage and a microSD card. The tablet comes in two colours; Brilliant Bronze (you can decide how brilliant it is for yourselves) and a Purple. It is powered by a 7400mAh battery with a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. The extras from the 8.0 version don’t seem to have been retained.

LG G padThe G Pad II 10.1 will also come with Microsoft Office pre-loaded and 100GB of free storage on Microsoft’s OneDrive system. It also has a feature called the ‘reader mode’ that dims the blue light of the screen, along with a multi-window mode.

The company did not mention the price of the Wi-Fi and LTE models but did state that the table will be available in North America, Europe, and Asia. LG will show us the tablet at IFA Berlin that takes place in the first week of September so stay tuned for more updates.

  • Xiaomi’s Next Flagship Rumoured to Come in Two Variants, Mi 5 And Mi 5 Plus

Xiaomi’s Next Flagship Rumoured to Come in Two Variants, Mi 5 And Mi 5 Plus

A few days ago Xiaomi unveiled its new smartphone, the Mi 4i, at a grand event in New Delhi. One lakh registrations went up and 40,000 units were sold out within 15 seconds. Now, reports from Gizmochina claim two more new devices will be joining the company’s line-up later in June. These devices are larger copies of the Mi 4, expected to be named Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus.

    mi 4i
40,000 units of the Mi 4i went out of stock in 15 seconds.

The claimed specs of the devices were leaked on the Chinese social media site, Weibo. The Mi 5 is touted to have a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. It is believed it will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with either 3GB or 4GB RAM and will be juiced by a 3,000mAh battery. Its camera specification includes a 16MP primary camera. The device will also be infused with fingerprint technology.

Its larger cousin, named as Mi 5 Plus, will feature a 6-inch screen with 4GB RAM, 32GB internal memory and a 16MP primary camera. No details were revealed about its processor, display etc. Xiaomi has yet to reveal the date of release, but reports mention that the two handsets will be out in June.

Knowing Xiaomi’s track of getting “inspired” by everything that Apple does, we won’t be surprised to see the upcoming flagship in two variants.

Epic Flagship Spec Battle : LG G4 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6 Plus vs HTC One M9

Exclusive: HTC One M9 to Release in India in the Next Few Months

At an event held on 14th April, HTC, in an unprecedented move, announced the arrival of the HTC One M9+ instead of the One M9. The phone, which was first announced at MWC 2015, was all ready to be greeted by Indian consumers, when HTC showed up with the One M9+ instead.

Don’t think we’re complaining; the M9+ comes with a larger screen, a better display and the same sleek design as the M9. However, for people who’d like an option of both, you’re likely to get one within the next few months. At the launch, a senior HTC official hinted to iGyaan that the One M9 might arrive in India soon.

Throwing light on the HTC One M9’s specifications, the 5-inch Full HD Display phone runs on a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core processor and houses 3GB of RAM. With a storage of 32GB, the memory slot is expandable up to 128GB via microSD. The imaging department includes a 20MP Autofocus BSI Sensor primary camera capable of shooting 4K videos and HTC Ultra Pixel Front camera. The phone derives its power from a 2840mAh battery and the OS runs on Android 5.0.2 along with HTC Sense 7.

Here’s a quick look at its specs:

    Specs

    HTC One M9

    Battery 2840mAh

  • After Conquering the Smartphone Segment, Xiaomi Now Targets Laptops

After Conquering the Smartphone Segment, Xiaomi Now Targets Laptops

Inspite of recent controversies surrounding the Chinese smartphone giant regarding patent infringement, the company seems undeterred. After raising funding of $1.1 Billion over the last couple of days, Xiaomi seems to be diversifying into the Laptop market as well.

Their latest addition to the portfolio (as leaks online suggest,) may be a Xiaomi MI Laptop. Earlier Xiaomi had already come out with the Mi Power bank (in the 10,400 mAh and 5,200 mAh variant) which was quite a hit. Although there were speculations regarding Xiaomi entering the Computing market however, this is the first time that there have been conclusive pictures as well as some details regarding its configuration.

The leaked specs allegedly reveal that it would have an Intel Haswell i7-4500u processor with 2 x 8GB dual channel memory. Further, it would have a large 15-inch 1080p display up front and would run on a linux OS customized by Xiaomi. Additionally, it is expected to be priced at approximately $480 (Rs. 30,000).

If these specs are anything close to reality, then this seems to be a device worth every Dollar, Yuan or Rupee spent on it; which would make the Chinese a superpower in the Laptop category as well.

In the past, Xiaomi has been quite successful in selling their devices in India through flash sales via Flipkart. Rumours also surround the market that Xiaomi is working on a dual edge smartphone known as the Xiaomi Arch, a device in direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.

Unfortunately nothing has been officially declared by Xiaomi regarding the Notebook and the fans would have to wait a while before the company announces the same. This device, if and when released, could be a game changer destroying many domestic companies which are presently enjoying the benefit of the lower and middle-end consumers.

    lg g3 12

The LG G3 is the third iteration in their flagship line and we have to say, unlike their Korean counter brand, they seem to be innovating on the right side of the brain which is usually the left. The G3 has a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and comes in 16 and 32GB internal storage variants with 2GB and 3GB RAM, respectively. Both models support up to 128GB microSD cards.

LG has positioned Amitabh Bachchan as the promotion celeb for this particular product and you will see a lot more of him in the coming days is what LG tells us.

LG has also mastered the focus capabilities of this phone says the company thanks to the new Laser autofocus : which also uses phase detection to get quick and precise focus on your subject so that the 13 MP OIS equipped camera can take a picture for you.

    Black_00036 White_00007

LG’s G Watch looks a sure shot challenger to Samsung’s Galaxy Gear. On the design front it looks really classy with pure black  and the white being incorporated to Gold elements.
Now @upleaks has leaked the specs on the watch even before its release. So lets see what is under the hood of LG’s Smart watch and if has the hardware potential to take on the Galaxy Gear.

The watch is powered by the new Android Wear OS. The display is a 1.65-inch LCD screen with 280×280 pixel resolution. The processor on the G Watch is a quad-core Snapdragon 400 (with APQ8026 CPU) chipset with an 4GB LPDDR2 RAM .

G Watch also has 4GB of storage. It runs the latest Bluetooth 4.0 which is great for portables. The battery is a 400mAh Li-Po battery which is rated to give 36 hours of standby time and can be charged in under 2 hours.

This sure looks like a gadget to look forward to and if LG prices it right, it could be a winner for LG as well as a great introduction to the world of Android Wear OS. Hope it is as simplistic and awesome as they have shown in their OS video:

    Initial Impressions

The first thing that one should consider is that the Micromax Canvas Knight is running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, which is a far cry from the standard Android 4.4 KitKat seen on many of todays launches. The Canvas Knight is designed well, subtle Micromax branding and flat design cues make it look a lot more elegant. The Glass back and front add to the design and remind us of the iPhone 4/4s designing. The front is laden with a  1920 x 1080 p IPS display of 5 inch size with excellent viewing angles and vivid brightness especially outdoors.

The front also has an 8 MP camera which sort of takes on handsets like the Gionee E7 (even though they are a different spec set), the rear has a 16 MP snapper, of which not a lot of detail is present, it does however manage a full HD video. The battery on the inside is a 2350 mAh which seems a lot less than needed for a OctaCore chipset and in our initial tests we did find the handset heating a bit from the earpiece region. Whether this will affect battery life performance or not is unknown.

The Canvas Knight A350 seems like a promising product from the company, check out the hands on Images on top and stay tuned for the Video Unboxing and Full Review.

  • LG G Flex Review

    LG G Flex Review

LG has been an underdog in the mobile industry for quite some time. However, last year brought about a new beginning for the Korean manufacturer especially in the mobile space. LG broke the traditional association of “cheap products” when they successfully chased the market with a product like the LG G2.

The new G Flex is the company’s latest marvel and a first of a kind phone at that. The first phone with a curved display, a curved body and a curved battery. The G Flex is also capable of handling reverse tension of upto 40 kilograms  and then returning to original state.

    Build Quality and Design

The funny thing about the build quality of the LG G Flex is that on one hand, it has a brilliant build and design : it is the first curved phone, which flexes and returns to its original position. It also has great tensile materials that allow it to do that flex thing it does, including LG’s patented Plastic OLED (POLED) tech. However on the other hand, the phone is purely plastic, front to back, the Plastic Display adds to the plastic nature making the phone look : well not so premium.
Curved and Flexible makes it unique!
The G Flex  however due to its design can be mishandled quite a lot. It has a very damage resistant design, including the  Gorilla Glass (er.. plastic) front, the self healing paint finish on the back that does a pretty decent job.  You can however scratch the back if that what you are trying to do, dropping the phone on concrete can have bad repercussions.

    LG G Flex 1

    Performance, Display & Multimedia

The G Flex is a refreshing change for Android devices, just like the G2 the G Flex is responsive and fast and hold down on the lag quite a lot. Apart from daily chores, it does a brilliant job in handling heavy games and performance apps, especially a few architecture and calculation apps we tried.

Even benchmarks are not a problem for the G Flex and you will find it hovering in the top range of the spectrum of devices. The graphics performance also takes a leap as it saves up on the lower 720p display. The limitation of the new “POLED” tech restricts the screen resolution to 720p and may be upped in the G Flex 2.

    LG G Flex 3

For the time being the display is pretty fantastic, the vivid colors and exceptional brightness put it in the top their in our list. If you ignore the resolution which effective is pretty alright, considering the size of the display you are bound to hold it further away. You will not notice the lack of 1080p, and if you do its purely an irritation in the mind .

Multimedia is a brand new experience, it fun even, simply because the curved display adds a strange magic to the viewing experience. The curve is pretty good and noticeable and anyone holding the device is impressed when viewing videos . The inbuilt sound may not be the top notch sound you would expect .

The G Flex captures and plays back 4k video, which allows you to zoom into videos without loss of resolution. A new tech also allows you to zoom into the sound of the area you zoom into. LG calls it Audio Zoom and shockingly it works well.

    lg g flex review 3

    Camera

The camera on this handset seems less polished than one would expect. Images are shabby, and mostly end up shaky. The lack of image stabilization also shows its dark side. Unlike the G2 the G Flex seems to have a slow and shabby shutter and mostly translates to less sharp images in the end.

That all being said, its not a complete failure and one can really take pictures by being careful with the handset. On the plus side the sensor captures unaltered 4K video which is simply too good to talk about. Talk about portable Ultra High Def, the camera is highly capable and manages excellent video. There is some software stabilization which may not be very well appreciated but, applying stabilization in post works great and you can even select your areas from the 4k footage to make a nice 1080p video with the right kind of detail. Its like a lossless zoom in video. 4k Video is the future of mobile camera tech, we saw that at MWC, and the G Flex embraces it really well.
G Flex embraces 4k Video as it’s the future
lg g flex review 8

    Phone Networks and Battery Life

The G Flex is a great phone too, with an excellent grasp on network towers the G Flex is able to get network where most phones failed. We used the G Flex primarily while traveling for MWC and while most people struggled with network problems, we were pretty happy.

Battery life was also excellent, also possibly due to a great network antenna. The 3500 mAh battery is not only good on paper but also in real life usage. LG has managed processes and its display really well ensuring high battery life. Great apps like the power saver enhance the battery considerably and come out of the box. Oh and did we mention that he battery is curved!

    lg g flex review 9

    Conclusion

The LG G Flex is a new age smartphone, it has all the matching pre requisites and it is a one of a kind device. It is not only curved, it flexes! The hardware is on the low side when compared to higher end of the spectrum, 720p display vs an 1080p and 2 GB of RAM vs 3 GB. However, those specs are arguably not needed.

While the performance of the phone is really on the happy side, the camera especially for stills is the sad side. Video, especially 4k is good and the phone networks are solid and battery excellent. The G Flex is large and not easily handled with one hand, even with large ginormous hands.

    lg g flex review 15

The G Flex brings in a new category, bendable phones, while its a step into the future we are not quite there yet and a long time from it. The design is unique and one of a kind, the build nice and resistance splendid. Honestly if LG made this phone slightly smaller we would have been happier, at 6 inches its more a mini tablet. So bring on the G Flex Mini and we we be happy soldiers.

Even though its priced  high, its a new technology and may be worth the value for those who become first movers.

The New HTC One has Two Cameras at the Back, Here is a Close and Clear Look

While we are not far away from the launch of the new HTC One, 25th March 2014. HTC has released various teasers highlighting different USP’s for the upcoming phone, which might not excite many people as we have seen many leaks showing almost everything.

However, the leaks continues and the new one is from Evleaks, the handset seen above sports a high quality polished Aluminum casing designed from a single block just like the HTC One. The leaked image above shows a clear picture of the upcoming smartphone, and the two cameras which people are talking about. It is not clear what will be the use of these camera, but if we look at rumors spinning in the rumor mills the next leak might not be away and will probably end rumors of the use of these camera from better focusing, 3D videos etc.

The M8 will have different specs compared to the HTC One including a 5-inch 1080p display powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974 coupled with 3GB of RAM and Sense 6.0 UI on top of Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

The front is mostly identical to the HTC One and features a BoomSound speaker setup and lacks physical or dedicated capacitive touch buttons. Here are the images that were sent to us by an anonymous tipster:
