Right after OnePlus announced the open sale for its OnePlus 2 yesterday, YU has made a similar announcement regarding its devices. The three smartphones, YUNIQUE, YUPHORIA and YUREKA PLUS will be up for grabs on Snapdeal and Amazon next week.
YUNIQUE will be made available to buyers on 13th October as part of Snapdeal’s Electronic Bonanza. Similarly, YUPHORIA and YUREKA PLUS, both phones on Android, will be available for buyers on Amazon as part of Amazon’s Great Indian Festive sale from October 13th -17th. Unlike OnePlus, which has made its newest smartphone available only for an hour for potential buyers, YU devices have no limited time period you should worry about.
The open sale is made to coincide with the festive season in the hope of attracting potential buyers. The company aims to sell half a million smartphones by Diwali this year. Let’s see whether or not the Indian market responds to YU devices in the manner the company expects.
Yu Yuphoria is now available at a price of Rs. 6,499 on Amazon, following a Rs. 500 price-cut. The phone was launched in the country in May with a price tag of Rs. 6,999. Another update the smartphone comes with is that of the operating system. The older Android Lollipop-based Cyanogen OS 12 custom ROM has now been replaced with stock Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Additionally, the company made Yureka Plus available at a price of Rs. 8,999 on Amazon. Cyanogen OS 12 of the phone has been replaced with Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Yunique is another smartphone by Yu which has been updated in a similar fashion. It’s priced at Rs. 5,499 and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The Yu smartphones have taken the circuit by storm with their competitive prices and have provided the consumers a wider range to choose from. The lowest priced 4G LTE smartphone in the market is Lenovo A2010 at a price of Rs. 4,990. However, the Yu phones are highly likely to tip the buyers’ interest in their favour now, away from brands like Lenovo.
According to the rumour mill, YU has something interesting in store for its fans. A always, we’ll update you with the details.
Do you think Yu’s new Yunique is ready to compete with its own predecessors, leave alone the Chinese smartphone vendors that are currently raging in the Indian market? Let’s find out.

Now, for the phone that has just released today – Yunique.
The Yunique comes with a 4.7 inch display, IPS HD display with a 1280 X 720 pixels, 312ppi resolution. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragn 410 processor with a 1.2gHZ chipset and is run on the Android 5.1.
On the camera front it comes with an 8MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens and a 5MP front camera. It can even capture and record videos in full HD with a 1080p resolution at 30 fps.It has an internal storage capacity of 8GB with a 1GB of RAM and comes with 2000mAh battery. Other connectivity options include – Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 & 4G/LTE. This phine is priced at Rs.4,999.
Now, if we compare the two smartphones, we see that the Yunique is not really an upgraded version of the Yuphoria. Yuphoria had offered a 16GB memory that could be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card along with a 2GB RAM, while the Yunique is offering just an 8GB internal memory with 1GB of RAM. One can compare the battery power and screen size too and see the same situation. However, the resolution in the Yunique is slightly better than the Yuphoria, but overall it seems to be not as exceptional, but that seems to be balanced out by its price tag, which is around Rs. 2000 lesser than the Yuphoria.
While we had been egged to believe that YU Televentures was going to reveal Yutopia, the company went ahead and revealed a “Yunique” product. Yu has just released its new offering called Yunique today, priced at Rs.4,999.
Let’s have a look at what Yunique is all about.
It runs on the latest Android 5.1 operating system with Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 1.2 GHz with GPU of Adreno A306. The new smartphone comes with a 4.7 inch IPS HD display, with 1280 X 720 pixels resolution (312ppi). All this is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
The Yunique has a storage capacity of 8GB with 1GB RAM. On the camera front it comes with an 8MP primary camera with f/2.0 lens and a 2MP front camera. It is fuelled by a 2,000 mAh battery and can also capture full HD videos with 1080p resolution at 30 fps. Connectivity options include Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a USB 2.0. The smartphone is 4G-enabled.
With the LTE capability in hand, the smartphone seems like a decent deal at the price it is being offered. There are several other options which would also suffice – such as Phicomm Energy 653 and the Micromax’s very own Canvas Xpress 2. However we’re still waiting to see if its build quality and looks help it stand apart.
