  • Two Separate Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Phones Spotted on Benchmarks

Two Separate Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Phones Spotted on Benchmarks

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will launch on August 2 a whole month prior to the usual launch cycle in order to combat the huge jump to the new Apple iPhone claim experts.

But, as the launch draws closer and closer the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 details seems to be clearing out. Two separate Galaxy Note 7 devices are doing the rounds of benchmarks and they not only have different chipsets but different specifications too.

    Samsung-Galaxy-Note-7-SM-N930F-GeekBench

The first one spotted on benchmark site Geekbench, with the model number SM-N930F appears to be  powered by a 1.50 GHz octa-core Exynos 7420 processor with 3GB of RAM and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. This variant scores 909 points in single core test and 3768 points in the multi-core test.

A second Samsung Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930V, is listed at AnTuTu with a qHD display resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixel. It runs, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS but has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU, and not the rumored Snapdragon 823 we have been hearing about this phone also has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage which matches with the internal memo obtained by iGyaan a few days back.

    Samsung-Galaxy-Note-7-SM-N930V-AnTuTu

Rumors of a Galaxy Note 7 running on 6 GB of RAM with the Snapdragon 823 chipset seem to be diminishing as we get closer to the launch. It also seems that Samsung may think that 3 GB of RAM is sufficient for markets where it will sell the Exynos variant, markets that include India, Malaysia and China.

  • Huawei’s Recent P9 Image Blunder Paints a Poor Picture for Mobile Brands

Huawei’s Recent P9 Image Blunder Paints a Poor Picture for Mobile Brands

Huawei’s recent launch of the new P9 put a lot of attention on the brand, with claims that the smartphone camera can match DSLR quality shots.

    Huawei P9 blunder

This image recently posted by Huawei on its Facebook page, promoting the P9.  Even though Huawei never directly claimed it was clicked with the P9. The caption read :

The #HuaweiP9’s dual Leica cameras makes taking photos in low light conditions like this a pleasure.

The EXIF data, however, spoke another story altogether. The photo was actually shot with a Canon 5D III using a 70-200 F2.8  L series lens. This reminds us of the bad marketing Nokia did with the Lumia 920 back in 2012.

Using DSLR images for marketing is more common than users expect. Most companies do it in their mainstream advertisements, and more so on social media.

Huawei issued an apology on the issue :

It has recently been highlighted that an image posted to our social channels was not shot on the Huawei P9. The photo, which was professionally taken while filming a Huawei P9 advert, was shared to inspire our community. We recognize though that we should have been clearer with the captions for this image. It was never our intention to mislead. We apologize for this and we have removed the image.

However, trust once broken is seldom regained, and Huawei seems to have upset a large chunk of its followers.

Claims in marketing media from brands often mislead users into expecting more from their phones. Claims like 2-day battery life, amazing cameras, and magical unicorns are made with phones that can barely manage to give average results.

With no regulations in place for marketing norms, a consumers knowledge becomes his best weapon against poor and unethical marketing warlords.

  • TRAI Working Hard For a Stronger Mobile Network in India

TRAI Working Hard For a Stronger Mobile Network in India

TRAI after recently releasing its Wireless Speed Monitoring App for mobile networks, is now working on improving the service benchmark for wireless data.

Through the application (Trai Myspeed App) we will get real time data from customers. This will be put on Trai Analytics Portal. It will show mobile data speed of each operator in a given area on real time basis

Trai has noticed a gap between what speeds the technologies could theoretically deliver, and what the consumers were experiencing in real-time. The Average speed promise will need to be delivered by the Telecom providers vs the earlier Minimum speed promise.

TRAI wants the users to upload the details of the speed and network quality to the Trai server, which in turn is analysed and published on the regulator’s analytics portal.

A consultation paper to be released by TRAI will give operators, basic performance needs, and operational benchmarks required to run networks in India. In turn ensuring better overall mobile network and data standards for Indian consumers.
