  • Zuckerberg Donates Twenty Million Dollars To Provide High-Speed Internet In Public Schools

Zuckerberg Donates Twenty Million Dollars To Provide High-Speed Internet In Public Schools

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that he and his wife would be giving twenty million dollars to the non-profit organization called EducationSuperHighway. This NGO helps provide high-speed internet to public schools in the United States of America.

    Facebook

Research suggest that there are more than a bunch of schools in the country that have access to internet connection, but not high-speed broadband. Therefore, most teachers and students don’t use the computer in their classroom for personalized teaching during the instructional hours because it is counterproductive.

“In schools, Internet is critical for enabling something we know leads to better results: personalized learning,”- says Mr.Zuckerberg.

Contributing towards educational endeavors is not something new for the couple; they had previously also donated three million dollars to the same foundation in 2013, and plan to start their own educational endeavour called The Primary School by August next year. The new project will be spearheaded by Priscilla Chan and strives towards bringing together education, quality, youth, and family health care for the people involved.

  • Fingerprint Scanners are Finally Here

    Fingerprint Scanners are Finally Here

Remember those spy movies you would watch as a kid, where the spy would have to get to this super secure vault; which could only be opened by one person, because it was locked by the most advanced technology of all time – fingerprint security system? Child’s play today.

Almost every present day high-end smartphone has a fingerprint scanner. So why not a USB fingerprint scanner which can be attached to your laptop in order to lock all your accounts with your own fingerprint? Let us find out what all the fuss is about.

    Fingerprint scanner

Today we want to talk about a startup project called iTouch ID; what this does, is basically makes your life easier by providing you with one fingerprint touch id scanner to access all your accounts. You might think that this is absolutely ridiculous as a security measure for all your important accounts.

Well, fret no more because firstly, nobody else in the entire world has the same fingerprint as you, and secondly, the device captures an image of your fingerprint and stores only the analysis data of the print. This means, that a hacker won’t be able to access your fingerprint, because it’s basically not stored anywhere.

Makes us wonder – a. When did our brains become so dull that we can’t even remember our own passwords and numbers? Oh right, when we had to protect everything. b. Why would anyone want to hack into a lay man’s account? Honestly, today, who is a layman? Enter over-protective technology, that makes us believe our life is in danger 24 X 7.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMrgMy6sdbo

Now that you have understood the iTouch ID’s basic functionality let’s take a look at a couple of other things that it can do. The iTouch can act as your laptop’s main password alternative, it can also manage multiple passwords on your multiple accounts, it can automatically log you into social networking sites and other accounts that you frequently visit, and it can even lock and unlock files just by creating a specific setting.

Way to make us lazier than we already are! It’s like technology is suddenly demeaning human power rather than enhancing it. It’s like this condescending voice in our head that is saying – Hello person, you are going to forget your password eventually, then somebody will hack into your account and steal all your money, then you’re going to die unhappy. Human reaction – Dear technology, please take over my life already.

    iTouch ID

Luckily we already know that this attachment is rather small, so it won’t cause you any hassle of tangled wires or adding weight to your device etc. What we also know is that it is not easily destructible, simply because of the way it has been crafted. It has been made out of an aircraft grade aluminum with a hard-anodized finish and laser-cut sapphire glass.

This that it is completely waterproof and has the ability to resist scratches. Basically, a lot of money has been spent to protect you, so you might as well take advantage of it by paying some more money,

    iTouch ID

Hardware wise it comes with a Fingerprint Sensor: ID FPS360, capacitive touch to detect the user’s fingerprint, 500 pixels per inch resolution, 256 x 300 pixel array, measures 0.72 inches (18.2 mm width) by 0.42 inches (10.6 mm length) by 0.24 inches (6 mm height), and has a power supply of 5V via USB. Apart from this the product also features  a USB 2.0, and as mentioned earlier is waterproof and scratch resistant. On the software front, this security product comes with an iTouch ID FPS360 Personal Identity Device USB Biometric Fingerprint scanner.

    iTouch ID

To elaborate a little bit more about the features and functionality of the product, we should know that it’s biometric fingerprint data are encrypted and stored in a secure password storage system. It supports a native USB implementation to enable the device, it has a two level authentication process, and is  AES encrypted. See what we mean by ‘over-protective technology’ to the rescue?

    iTouch ID

There are 10 variants of iTouch IDs with varying price range. The Friendly iTouch ID comes at $3, the First iTouch ID comes at $79, the Green iTouch ID, the Gold iTouch ID and the Simple iTouch ID come at $99, the Personal iTouch ID comes at $119, the Share iTouch ID comes at $189, the Share a Personal ID comes at $ 222, the High Five iTouch ID comes at $444 and the Double High Five ID comes at $888.

If that’s not enough of time and money spent on protecting yourself virtually, there are a couple of system requirements that you will have to fulfill before purchasing the device. You will need a PC with 1200 MHz or higher processor clock speed, a 512MB of RAM, 100MB of available hard disk space, Super VGA (800×600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor, USB 2.0 backward compatible for USB 1.1 and an OS Windows or Mac OS X and Android.

Overall it is quite an impressive piece of work, it’s complicated, sophisticated, intricate, well thought out and honestly it is also innovative. However that sense of awe we had mentioned in the beginning is still not there. Today technology has become so accessible that, the sophisticated technology we once thought could only be used by the CIA or MI6 or James Bond can now easily be bought by us too.

The main attraction towards technology back when we were kids, was the magic it produced and the mystery behind it. Today, even though we know everything, and what we don’t know can be found out very simply, the charm technology holds on us still unbreakable. Won’t you agree?

  • Google To Launch Play Store In China Next Year

Google To Launch Play Store In China Next Year

Google wants to launch a special version of its Play Store in China next year. Reports suggest that the company wants to launch a stand-alone version for the country in order to comply with their government’s censorship requirements.

    Google Play Store

Google has had a short and somewhat tumultuous relationship with the country. It left China in 2010 as a reaction to the Chinese hacking attacks and the government’s censorship requirements. However, with the new turn of events, it seems like the company is agreeing to comply with content censorship request, but will keep the Chinese version of the Play Store separate from the existing app store. This will be done so that the rest of the users located outside the country won’t have to comply with those specific censorship guidelines.

    Google Play Store

Even with Android being the most used operating system in China, many users do not have Google apps on their phone because of the above mentioned reasons. They currently use web browsers like Tencent and Baidu in order to access app stores from mobile phones. Therefore, hopefully with the introduction of the Google Play Store, things might change for the ‘techizens’ of China, and will inversely even help Google expand towards more areas of influence.

This app store can be expected to launch during the first half of 2016, sometime after the Chinese New Year in February.

Reliance is aiming for low price 4G data implementation early 2016 aiming to charge subscribers of Jio as low as Rs 50-100 for 1 GB of data vs the current price of approximately Rs. 250 for 1 GB of 4G data.

  • Facebook To Start Their Own Crowdfunding Platform

Facebook To Start Their Own Crowdfunding Platform

Facebook is really trying to spread itself, in order to reach every corner of the Internet. It’s latest addition to the internet take-over is a new crowdfunding feature. The company released a new Fundraiser product that allows non-profit organizations to set up a campaign page to raise funds. They can share a video portraying their goals, they can collect the money and let people share News Feed posts with buttons so that their friends can contribute without clicking on a new page.

    Facebook Fundraiser

Facebook has been focused on non-profit organizations for some time now, starting with the introduction of their ‘Donate’ button in 2013 and then later on launched a ‘Buy’ button for shopping. However, Facebook could probably also use this same idea of catering to the non-profits and build on a profitable future. Crowdfunding does seem to be the new in-thing in the social media circle especially with Kickstarter and Indigogo rising. However, these companies rely mainly on the re-sharing statistics on sites like Facebook for their own social graphs.

    Facebook Fundraiser

Apart from the fact that they rely heavily on exterior websites for their popularity and reach, it is also a very time consuming process for the pledger to support or fund any particular project. One usually has to leave Facebook to visit the campaign’s page, maybe enter another exterior credit card and billing window, and then sharing the campaign back on Facebook. Therefore, Facebook is basically trying to save peoples’ time by creating their own crowdfunding platform.

    Facebook Fundraiser

The platform on Facebook will allow users to discover new projects, make payments all within the same platform. The Fundraiser feature also allows people who would like to show their support towards a project without having to make monetary payments via a “Join” button. This button will allow the supporter to receive updates about the project; they’ll also be able to post on the page and invite friends to join the campaign.

This project could also lure people into a more one-time set-up flow payment system and thereby attract more pledges. Apart from this advertisements for the website’s own pages could contribute to socializing and browsing within their own website, since these ads will only lead you to another page within the website.

    Facebook Fundraiser

Facebook seems to have really caught on to a major consumer attraction concept of how to save time. This new project does seem like it has a lot of potential and with Facebook’s already vast expanse, nothing seems impossible for the social networking website.
