SanDisk Launches Connect Wireless Stick in India

SanDisk has come out with a way that allows you to store data wirelessly. The company launched the Connect Wireless Stick in India that allows wireless transfer of files and media to and from your laptops, PCs, and mobile devices with the help of its built in Wi-Fi hotspot. The device is especially useful since most Tablets these days come without a MicroSD storage. The Connect Wirless Stick can allow multiple devices to transfer and store data, simultaneously. The device will also function as a standard USB flash drive as well.

It terms of design, the device looks both stylish and professional with a hexagonal pattern on the body and a LED in the front to indicate whether the device is on, if the battery is low, if it is charging, or if data is being transferred. The device also comes with an auto back-up of images and videos from your camera roll. The Stick will surely speed up the way data is transferred by not having to connect it manually to a device everytime. However, the device only supports USB 2.0 and not 3.0 which limits the transfer speed to a maximum of 60mbps.

SanDisk says that the Connect Wireless Stick can stream 4.5 hours of video on a single charge, but can lower the figure when connected to multiple tablets and phones.

Dinesh Bahal, Vice President, Product Marketing, SanDisk had said at the global launch in July, “We live in an era where we are truly living a mobile lifestyle. We use our devices to capture life’s moments, and work in a way that was never before possible – all of which has created the need for a new generation of mobile storage,”

The device will be available on Flipkart from the 18th of September and will come in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB for Rs. 2,790, Rs. 3,790, Rs. 5,490, and Rs. 9,490 respectively.

  • Amazon’s New FireTV to Challenge Apple TV

Amazon’s New FireTV to Challenge Apple TV

Amazon had launched its first FireTV last year, and is back with the launch of the second generation FireTV media receiver later, this year. The company intends to pit its new FireTV against the Apple TV that was unveiled at the event just two days ago.

    Buellerfinalcropped

The first FireTV was loaded with features and functions that were well received by critics. The device featured 2 GB of RAM, MIMO dual-band Wi-Fi, and a Bluetooth remote control with a microphone for voice search. It supported a 1080 resolution streaming with Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound all at a nominal price of $99. Amazon delivered on quality, the first time around and one expects that they will improve on it with the next one.

The news of the second-generation FireTV comes just a day after Amazon discontinued its first and only smartphone, the Fire Phone. But where the smartphone failed to make an impact, the Fire TV has seen success. It has already discontinued its first device so one can expect news of the new Fire TV to come out soon.

The new FireTV is rumored to come with a new microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, an ethernet port and USB port. No details on a new UI or improved gaming features as of now. But given that the device will challenge the Apple TV, one expects Amazon to upgrade all its features for the new FireTV. Will the device be able to hold its own against the Apple TV? Follow this space to find out.

  • Here’s a Camera App that Can Make Your Pictures Look Professional

Here’s a Camera App that Can Make Your Pictures Look Professional

When we purchase a smartphone today, one of our primary concerns is having a phone with an excellent camera, especially for the amateur photographers and Instagrammers out there. Gone are the days of carrying around a separate digital camera, and rightly so if your phone has the capabilities of taking quality photographs almost as clear as a DSLR camera. And one cannot deny that today’s iPhones are winning in the camera department.

Tap, tap, tap, a company that created the third-party camera app, Camera+ for iOS users, is selling its app for free now. The app currently has a strong 14 million user base, and has earned $18 million dollars in sales. The app is useful for those who want a little more from their iPhones, providing a bunch of extra editing tools – both basic and advanced – such as special effects and lighting filters, an image stabilizer, and integrated sharing with Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter. But until now, the app was only available as a paid download.

The company will continue to have the paid version for users who want the complete set of features. The free app will have most of the basic features for free and select advanced features via in-app purchases, which include manual shooting, advanced editing, and lossless TIFF, to name a few. The free app will be a great advantage for those iPhone users who have a hobby for photography and like to play around with various editing features without having to pay for it.

The app has received favorable reviews. PC Advisor gave the app 4-and-a-half stars out of 5 and declared it a “must-have” app for iPhone photographers. Wired gave the app a 9 out of 10, describing it as a “secret weapon” for photographers, stating that it contained so much functionality that it was “too easy to get lost in the deeply layered menus or forget where you found that killer function the other day.”

  • Meizu to Unveil Flagship Phone ‘NIUX’

Meizu to Unveil Flagship Phone ‘NIUX’

Meizu, China-based consumer electronics company, will have an official launch for its flagship rumored to be call ‘NIUX’, on the 23rd of September. Teasers of the event with the words ‘Meizu Go Pro’ have been circulating, suggesting that the company is set to unveil the Meizu MX5 Pro. However, the wordings are false as they are going to launch the ‘NIUX’ instead.

VP of Meizu, Li Nan, stated that the Meizu MX5 Pro has been scrapped. In fact, they plan on scrapping the entire ‘MX Pro’ line altogether. Instead, the company will focus on a new line of premium devices, the first of which will be the ‘NIUX’. Li Nan decided to ‘leak’ official images of the NIUX rather than waiting for unofficial leaks.

The phone is rumored to come with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution along with 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of internal storage. The phone will be powered by the Exynos 7420 SoC, which Mr. Bai, President of Miezu, calls the best CPU available. • 5 Features the iPhone 6s Should Have Had

5 Features the iPhone 6s Should Have Had

Now that Apple has revealed its latest flagships, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, it is time to talk about whether Apple delivered the goods customers have been waiting for or not. While some have raved over the upgraded camera features and Force Touch functionality, others were disappointed with some of the announcements, or the lack thereof.

We’ll look at some of the features and upgrades the iPhone 6s should have had:

    Minimum 32 GB Storage

Knowing before hand that Apple was going to upgrade its camera to 12 megapixels, loyalists around the world also hoped that the iPhone would stop the 16 GB variant (which really helped no one) and have the 32 GB as its new minimum. With the new 12 megapixel camera and the ability to shoot 4K video, and a new feature that takes live photos, having a storage as limited as 16 GB makes little or no sense and a 32 GB variant would have been hugely welcomed. Alas, the iPhone 6s will only come in 16 GB/ 64 GB/ 128 GB variants. So those seeking a larger storage will need to burn their pockets.

    iphone-6-11-100413699-large

    Longer Battery Life

One of the most important concerns for every smartphone user today is the battery life and this proved to be a huge disappointment on Apple’s part. At the launch, audiences did not receive any information on the new iPhone’s battery capacity. However, stills from the Apple promo video show that the iPhone 6s will have a 1715 mAh capacity, which is smaller than the 1810 mAh of the iPhone 6. Given all the new and upgraded features, one expects the phone to have enough juice to allow users to make full use of the various applications. Apple should have delivered on that.

    screen-shot-2015-09-09-at-8-35-35-pm

    User Friendly Design

The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus look visually identical to the current iPhones, but made from a custom 7000 series aluminum. This will solve the ‘bendgate’ issue that plagued the iPhone 6. However, with a new, smooth aluminum body, users are likely to find it harder to hold as it is lacking proper grip. Users will have to buy a separate cover, which would not have been needed if the makers had toyed with the design a little.

    iPhone 6s 6

    Improved Resolution

The iPhone 6s has the same 750 x 1334 resolution as the current iPhone 6. Apart from the added 3D Touch, the new iPhones do not offer a better display, which is puzzling when combined with the fact that they have upgraded their camera. Again, Apple should have offered a higher resolution seeing that its rival Samsung has raced ahead in that area already, offering a 1440 x 2560 resolution for its Galaxy S6.

    iphone_6s_iphone_6s_plus_ap_01

    Better Performance

Apple announced that the iPhone 6s Series will come with the latest A9X 3rd Generation 64-bit chipset. According to Apple, the A9 chipset is 70% faster at CPU tasks and 90% more graphic power than the A8. However, the core- count and speed were factors that weren’t discussed which is what decides the performance of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

  • Amazon Kills off the Fire Phone

Amazon Kills off the Fire Phone

While the world was glued to the launch of Apple’s new smartphones, Amazon quietly killed off its own. The Fire Phone was released last year and has since then fared poorly in the market. The phone was the first and only smartphone launched by Amazon, and the company has no plans on bringing it back.

According to the Amazon website, the phone is currently unavailable and “we don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock”. An Amazon spokesperson told Fortune that  “we sold through our inventory of the Fire phone in the U.S. and globally, and we do not plan to replenish stock at this time,”

    maxresdefault

The plan to discontinue the device comes as no surprise as the phone failed to make a dent in the already crowded smartphone market. One of the main reasons for its failure was designing the phone in a way as to only suit Amazon’s own services, with limited apps and more focus on Amazon shopping.

However, the company will continue to provide support and service for existing Fire Phone users. It seems Amazon’s next move is to focus on the $50 tablet that they plan to launch later this year.

  • HTC is Working on a Smartwatch Codenamed ‘Halfbeak’

HTC is Working on a Smartwatch Codenamed ‘Halfbeak’

Latest rumors suggest that HTC is working on an Android Wear smartwatch codenamed ‘Halfbeak’. The company has been associated with Android Wear from the very beginning. However, they have never entered into the smartwatch game, which has already been played by Apple, Samsung and LG, to name a few.

From what we’ve gathered so far, the smartwatch will come with a round display, with a 360×360 resolution. HTC has shown keen interest in wearable tech since it showed off the HTC Grip earlier this year. The Grip is a sports band and watch, but does not run Android Wear.

We have mentioned earlier on HTC’s big ‘dual-flagship’ launch scheduled to take place on the 29th of September. Chances are that the company may take some time out to introduce the watch on that day as well. Given that HTC delivers on beautiful smartphone designs, the watch could follow suit. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • 6 Things You May Have Missed During the Apple Launch

6 Things You May Have Missed During the Apple Launch

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have finally been revealed. After whispered talks for weeks, Apple has delivered its latest offering and is out to be judged. While the world was watching in anticipation as to whether the rumored features and upgrades to the phone – such as camera and Force Touch – were delivered or not, we’ve decided to highlight some details and features about the other products from the launch that you may have missed out on.

    1. Apple Watch to come with Facebook Messenger, iTranslate and AirStrip:

    COeiFQIWEAAmYUv

    COeiE10WEAAI2-Y

Apple has introduced the Messenger app on the watch along with an app that translates one language to another, and an app called Airstrip for healthcare providers that receives information and can differentiate between a baby and mother’s heart rate during pregnancy.

Apple has also tied up with Hermes to design new gold leather bands for the watch, which will cost the same as the Sports. WatchOS2 will release on the 16th of September.

    2. iPad Pro will include the 3D4Medical app:

    iPad Pro Pencil Keyboard 2

This will allows users to see 3D models of the body in real-time. This app will be particularly useful for patients and medical professionals as it allows users to view 3D images of injuries and can plan out surgeries as well. Are you willing to trust a doctor with an iPad?

    3. The iPad Pro will come with an Apple Pencil and keyboard:

The new iPad Pro will feature a stylus called the Apple Pencil and so far this addition has received lukewarm reception. It also comes with a keyboard sold separately for $169,  which  magnetically attaches to the iPad.

iPad Pro Pencil Keyboard 8 iPad Pro Pencil Keyboard 0

4.The iPad Mini 2 becomes cheaper while iPad Mini 4 will come with an upgraded A8x processor:

This means that it will be able to run all of the iOS 9’s multitasking features. With an upgraded 8 megapixel rear camera, the iPad mini 4 is now very much at par with the iPad Air 2.

    dsc2149

    5. Apple TV will have a voice and touch enabled remote:

It also introduces iOS features such as weather and sports scores to the TV. It’s called TV OS “Based on iOS and built for the living room”. The TV also allows you to quick rewind 15 seconds by asking “what did she say?”. A great feature if one tends to miss out on a scene. The remote will also feature an accelerometer and a gyroscope that will detect body motions, similar to the Wii.

    6. Harmonix introduced a game called Beat Sports for the Apple TV:

You hit pitches by swinging the remote, which means the remote indeed has motion control. “Beat Sports combines the joy of hitting balls with the joy of hitting notes” and can be played using the iPhone and iPod Touch as well.

    BEATS

Now that we’ve got the big and small covered, you can decide for yourselves whether Apple has indeed paid attention to the finer details or not. Expected to roll out their devices next month i.e, October, one will have to wait and find out if the new products are a hit. And if the past is any indication, they will be.

Trust the social media to explode when something big happens. The Apple launch was that ‘something big’ that went viral on the internet and major social media sites from the moment the event began. Just hours before the launch Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, tweeted his excitement on showing the world what he and his team had up their sleeves.

Here are some Twitter reactions from around the world that bombarded the internet once the devices were unveiled. And like everything else on the internet, the reactions were either of pure ecstasy or mockery. Those in favour tweeted:

While others were left saddened about their current iPhones:

And regarding the iPhone’s Live Photo feature:

The Apple Pencil got a lot of negative tweets rolling as well, remembering Steve Jobs’ dislike for the stylus:

  • The 12.9 inch iPad Pro is Finally a Reality

The 12.9 inch iPad Pro is Finally a Reality

At the Apple launch, Tim Cook announced “The biggest news in iPad since the iPad”. The new iPad Pro is the company’s push for the iPad in a big way. It is the “biggest screen on an iOS device, with more power and performance than any iOS device.”

    Apple iPad Pro 3

According to the company, the iPad Pro is thin enough to hold all day long and buoyant enough to be used as a flotation device in case of emergency. But we feel like it may just be too big to hold in one hand.

    Screen 12.9 Retina display
    Display 5.6 mil pixels
    Sound 4 speaker audio
    Battery 10 hours
    Camera 8 megapixel iSight
Connectivity Up to 150 mbps LTE

The iPad Pro is upto 1.8X faster than the previous models and is faster than 80% of the portable PCs that have been released. It boasts of a desktop class performance and a great sound system, which includes a four-speaker audio system that balances stereo and frequencies depending on how you hold it.

Apple introduced two new features – the physical keyboard and the Apple Pencil. The keyboard can be attached to the iPad magnetically. The Apple Pencil was introduced to almost lukewarm reactions from the crowd. The stylus has a built in lightning cable for charging.

    Apple iPad Pro 9

    Apple iPad Pro 10

Apple in a surprising and amusing move, gave the stage to the Microsoft Office team headed by Kirk Konigsbauer, who introduced the Microsoft Office for the iPad. Using iOS9 multitasking, you can have word and excel on the screen at the same time. Earlier, Samsung came out with a multitasking feature, but Apple looks to make it more efficient and user friendly.

Next was Irene Walsh on stage who introduced a new app called 3D4Medical.

“I’m excited to show you how with the new iPad Pro, our ability to communicate with patients has dramatically improved.”

The app shows 3D models of the body, animated in real time. This app is sure to help both patients and medical professionals because the advantages seem to reach far and wide as one can draw out surgeries and get a look of injuries in 3D.

Last year’s iPad Air 2, had a new display, upgraded A8X chip, 6.1mm thin, less than a pound. This year’s new iPad, the iPad Pro, has a better display, upgraded A9X, slightly thicker, slightly heavier. The 32/128 (Wi-Fi)/128 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) GB iPad Pro will cost $799/ $949/ $1079 respectively, the Pencil will cost $99 and the keyboard will be $169.

The iPad Pro is a designer’s dream come true because of the apps and features it offers. However, only the future will tell us how it will make an impact in terms of usage, to the common man. Let us know what you think about this wonder, in the comments below.

  • HTC to Hold a ‘Dual-Flagship’ Launch End of September

HTC to Hold a ‘Dual-Flagship’ Launch End of September

Rumours afloat are hinting at an HTC ‘dual-flagship’ launch on the 29th of September. The hints are backed by @upleaks who posted an image on Twitter, showing the apparent invite sent out by HTC. The launch is scheduled to unveil two flagship phones rumored to be the Aero A9 and Butterfly 3. In fact, HTC had earlier scheduled the release of Aero A9 in the first week of September, but failed to deliver. However, it is now almost certain that the launch will take place this month.

    htc_sept_29_event_invite_weibo_upleaks

HTC is hoping to deliver with a bang, given that the response to their previous phone, the HTC One M9, was poor at best. The smartphone caused a fifty percent drop in the company’s share prices, which is perhaps one of the reasons the company is gambling with a dual release end of this month.

If rumours are true, the HTC Aero A9 will be packing a QHD resolution display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection and 2.5D curved edges, a MediaTek Helio X20 ten-core tri-cluster processor with 4GB of RAM and Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. The Butterfly 3, on the other hand, is a supposed international version of the HTC J Butterfly, which was launched this May, in Japan. The smartphone is expected to come with a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM and 2700mAh battery.

    HTC-J-butterfly-HTV31                                                                      (HTC Butterfly J)

The launch on the 29th will take place in Hakone, Japan. The date also clashes with another launch, Google’s new Nexus smartphones, which will take place in San Francisco. With these two launches happening on the same day, one can expect another battle of flagship phones in the offing.

  • Apple Hires Artificial Intelligence Experts to Up Siri’s Game

Apple Hires Artificial Intelligence Experts to Up Siri’s Game

As Apple closes in on the much talked about launch on the 9th of September, the company is already busy searching for artificial-intelligence experts to help improve Siri’s functionality that has become stale in comparison to Google Now and Microsoft’s Cortana. Both competitors believe that the customers want an AI system that provides information catered specifically to their time and location, something Siri has failed to deliver.

    siri-ios-7

To up their game, Apple has decided to hire at least 86 AI experts to work on machine learning alone, as well as employees with doctorates specializing in AI. According to a report by Reuters, the company’s user privacy that limits the amount of data sent from the iPhone to the servers, which makes it a challenge to improve Siri’s AI.

As part of its push, the company is currently trying to hire at least 86 more employees with expertise in the branch of artificial intelligence known as machine learning, according to a recent analysis of Apple job postings. The company has also stepped up its courtship of machine-learning PhD’s, joining Google, Amazon, Facebook and others in a fierce contest, leading academics say.” – Reuters

The major problems for Siri, at the moment, are that it is lacking in both personal touch and information. Responses provided by Siri are far too rigid, allowing for only a simple user-requested reply. Limited data to the servers mean a limited knowledge of individual users and tastes. While trying to maintain the same level of user privacy, Apple Inc. is looking for solutions that will go around it and still deliver a smarter, personal Siri.

In the upcoming launch on the 9th of September, Apple hopes to bring a faster, smarter version of Siri with its iOS 9 upgrade, which will provide users with information based on time and location using a feature called Proactive. Commenting on the iOS 9, Craig Federighi, Apple’s SVP of software engineer said that it was “adding intelligence throughout the user experience in a way that enhances how you use your device but without compromising your privacy.”  Though one may have to wait for the iPhone 7 (expected next year) for a fully improved Siri, the Apple has been teasing with a number of coy and witty replies when asked “Hey Siri, give us a hint” as part of Apple’s invites for the launch on the 9th of September.

And with smarter, more cryptic replies such as:

A photo posted by iGyaan Network (@igyaan) on

These various responses hint at the possibility that a new and improved Siri might be here sooner than expected. Until then, you can poke Siri for more hints.
