LeEco’s Le Max Pro Powered by Snapdragon 820 Passes TENAA

LeEco took over January with a storm. The company that was formerly known as LeTV stole the spotlight at CES 2016 earlier this month by unveiling the Le Max Pro – the world’s first smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset. Now, it looks like the device is ready to hit the markets for sale.

The Le Max Pro has been greenlit by Chinese telecommunication authority TENAA, which means the sale of the device will begin pretty soon.

    Le Max Pro

The Le Max Pro sports a 6.33-inch display with QHD resolution powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset. The device will be equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The camera is said to feature a 21MP sensor for the rear and a 4MP sensor for the front.

Pricing and other details have yet to be revealed. LeEco launched the Le 1s and Le Max in India on the 20th of January with the first flash sale for the Le 1s having concluded today. Reports are that the LeEco received over 5,30,000 registrations for the Le 1s. The flash sale today saw the Le 1s being sold out in less than a minute. With the kind of response LeEco has received from the country, it looks like the Le Max Pro could be the next phone to enter the Indian market.

  • Canon Unveils 4K-Capable EOS-1D X Mark II

    Canon Unveils 4K-Capable EOS-1D X Mark II

Canon has lifted the veils on its updated flagship DSLR with 4K-shooting, the EOS-1D X Mark II. The main attraction here is, of course, the ability to record DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) video at an impressive 60p, a feature mainly seen in camcorders and cinema cameras. As much as this DSLR is big on videos, it’s equally big on stills as well with a 20.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor, as well as dual DIGIC 6+ processors.

The camera coes with two card slots – a CFast 2.0 card slot and a CF card slot for older media cards. The DSLR comes with an improved sensitivity with a native ISO 51200 which can be expanded up to ISO 409600. The 4K shooting, however, will be limited to a sensitivity range up to ISO 12800 while HD is available at up to ISO 25600. All this along with other camera settings can be operated through a  3.2″ 1.62m-dot touchscreen LCD.

    R_1

Added to the DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) recording, the Mark II also comes with a true 24.00 fps shooting option in all modes and can shoot in Full HD at up to a speedy 120 fps.  Internally, the 4K video at 60p has an impressive 800 Mbps bit rate, while 24/30p have a 500 Mbps bit rate, ensuring sharp footage with minimal artifacting.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF for a full-frame sensor and Movie Servo AF provide a major boost in autofocus in video. This provides exceptional speed and accuracy, which is complemented by the touchscreen that lets the user simply tap the area to change focus.

Meanwhile, low-light shooting gets a bump with f/8 support, all 61 points and working at down to -3 EV with the center point. Still capturing is now faster, where full-resolution 20.2MP raw files can be captured with full-time AF and AE metering at a rate of 14 fps.

Canon has implemented a Digital Lens Optimizer technology that stores lens aberration data in the camera and almost instantly corrects peripheral brightness and chromatic aberration, as well as distortion and diffraction. This ensures maximum resolution and detail from the 20.2MP CMOS sensor.

    Top_1

The camera is dust and water resistant, which makes it hold its own in the most diffuclt weather conditions and scenario. Connectivity features include a PC sync port, a microUSB 3.0 transfer port, and an Ethernet port in addition to the Mini HDMI (Type C) and audio connections. The Mark II is compatible with batteries of the orginal 1D X, though the camera will work at slightly reduced continuous shooting rates. The EOS-1D X Mark II is expected to begin shipping in April at a price of around $6,000 (body-only), or $6,300 for a premium kit that includes a 64GB CFast card and an Extreme PRO CFast 2.0 Card Reader/Writer.

Spec Battle: Moto X Force vs Lumia 950XL vs Nexus 6P vs HTC One M9 vs Galaxy S6 Edge+

Motorola launched the Moto X Force in India with a price tag of Rs 49,999 for the 32GB variant and Rs 53,999 for 64GB option. The phone was launched globally last year as Droid Turbo 2 and now it has arrived here with its much talked about ShatterShield display.

On the specs front, Moto X Force packs a 5.4 inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core chipset along with 3 GB of RAM. The two internal storage options of 32 GB and 64 GB are expandable up to 2 TB with the help of a microSD card.

Moto X Force Hands On iGyaan 09

The USP of the device is its super-hardy screen. Motorola claims to have integrated a ‘Moto Shattershield’ technology in the display of Moto Force which, it says, is the first shatterproof screen in a phone ever. The company feels confident enough to affirm the screen would stay intact for up to four years, owing to the multiple layers of different materials used in making it capable of absorbing shock and providing protection against cracking. The phone also boasts of two touchscreen layers, which make sure that the smartphone can be used even if one of the layers is cracked.

With the given specs and price tag, a few other devices come to mind like the Lumia 950XL, Nexus 6P, HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+. The Moto X Force not only has a strong exterior but does impressively in the hardware department as well. The AMOLED display is sharp and bright despite the layers of glass on top. The X Force also has a giant battery that will provide enough of juice to get you through the day and then some.

However, the camera in the moto X Force isn’t the best, especially when compared to the Galaxy S6 Edge+, Lumia 950XL and even the dubious HTC One M9. The Moto X Force also comes with a pretty bland design, which pales in front of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Nexus 6P which come with a premium look and feel to it that fit the price bracket.

Let’s see where the Moto X Force stands when compared to these devices. Based on the specs, let us know your winner in the comments below.

Motorola launched the Moto X Force in India today at a price of Rs 49,999 for the 32GB variant. The smartphone’s main attraction is its ‘Shattershield’ technology. The 5.4-inch 2,560 x 1,440 panel (QHD) panel is protected by a five layer system which has allowed Motorola to brand it the “world’s first shatterproof smartphone display” thanks to what Moto calls the ShatterShield technology. The company claims the screen would stay intact for up to four years absorbing shock and providing protection against cracks.

With so much going on with the construction of the Moto X Force, there’s really only one way to test it out – a good old fashioned drop test. We took the device up to a 1000-foot high from where we let it drop. Take a look at the video below to see whether the Moto X Force survived the fall.

  • Hands On with the Honor 5X

Hands On with the Honor 5X

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched the Honor 5X in India. The successor to the Honor 4X made its debut in China earlier this month after its unveiling at CES 2016.The Honor 5X is priced at Rs 12,999 with preorders starting yesterday and sales starting from February 1 on Amazon and Flipkart.

In terms of design, the Honor 5X sports an aircraft-grade metal unibody construction with a fingerprint scanner at the back that promises 0.5 seconds unlocking time and can also be used to capture photos. The device gives a premium look for a budget-friendly smartphone, keeping it on par with the Le 1s that was launched last week. These devices show us that budget phones are turning out to be the new premium.

    Huawei Honor 5X iGyaan 4

The Honor 5X sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1080p resolution, and a pixel density of 401 ppi. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC with Adreno 405 GPU. The 5X is available in 2GB of RAM options with 16GB onboard storage that is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

    Huawei Honor 5X iGyaan 0

On the camera front, the Honor 5X gets a 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual tone LED flash and a 5MP selfie shooter. Both the rear and front cameras are impressive and fast, especially when shifting focus. The colors are a touch darker than the actual setting which helps in capturing blacks well. The shutter is on the slower side as well.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0, GPS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and 4G (Dual SIM). The device gets its juice from a 3000mAh battery pack with Smart Power 3.0. The handset runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop which is upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

    Huawei Honor 5X iGyaan 3

The Honor 5X does have a premium look, and the metal unibody construction does well to add to that. However, it fails to grab our attention when compared to LeEco’s Le 1s, which was launched last week at Rs 2000 cheaper at that.

The UI isn’t as snappy and fluid as one would hope, especially in its initial usage, which may put off a lot of buyers. It takes a couple of seconds before the Gallery or Camera apps open.

  • Xiaomi Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 Will Come to India

Xiaomi Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 Will Come to India

Xiaomi is trying to get as many of its devices as it can in India. The company’s India head Manu Jain said that new products are bound for India, but the Mi TV will not be one of that.

Jain expressed the importance of bringing Xiaomi’s products to India, stating that the company completely supports the ‘Make in India’ program and is looking for new partnerships to boost its presence.

Last year, Xiaomi got too few products in India and even fewer smartphones. Other than the Mi 4i and Mi Band, India received only upgraded versions of earlier phones. Devices like the Mi Note and Mi Note did not make it into the Indian markets. However, Jain has announced that the Redmi Note 3 and the Mi 5 will be available in India.

    Mi 5 01

“With the new products coming up for Xiaomi, a lot of hard-work has gone in, both from the China teams and India teams. We are working very hard to ensure that the time gap between the two launches is reduced. Of course, some gap is to be expected between given that to launch a new device in India, we need to get certifications, clearances,” said Jain.

So for those in India who’ve been hearing a lot about the upcoming Mi 5 flagship and have been excited all through, will soon be able to get their hands on the device as Xiaomi plans to bring it to India soon enough.

  • HTC One M10 Specifications Revealed

    HTC One M10 Specifications Revealed

Over the past few days, a lot has been spoken about the HTC One M10, codenamed “Perfume”. It began when popular leakster @evleaks tweeted that the upcoming HTC One M10 is going to look a lot like the HTC One A9. Those familiar with the One A9 know that the device sparked off a major controversy with the device’s likeness to the iPhone 6, in terms of design.

Today, @evleaks has outed some specs of the device which are likely to be the actual thing. The device will sport a 5.1-inch QHD AMOLED display. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. A microSD card slot will be available too.

On the camera front, the flagship is said to feature a 12MP UltraPixel rear camera with laser autofocus and OIS. HTC is ditching the front-facing speakers with the One M10, but the device will have a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button. The handset will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with HTC Sense 8 on top. Earlier it was speculated that HTC would unveil the device at the MWC in February, but now it looks like the company will have a dedicated event for the launch sometime in March.

    htc-one-m10-Plus

These specs are a little different from what we’ve come to hear about the device. Earlier, it was suggested that the One M10 will sport a 5.5-inch display and feature a 20MP primary camera, but Evan Blass of @evleaks says otherwise. Of course, nothing has been confirmed so far so you may want to take this with a pinch of salt.

Earlier it was also speculated that HTC would unveil the device at the MWC in February, but now it looks like the company will have a dedicated event for the launch sometime in March.

Speaking at the launch, Ravi Kunwar, Director- North, Microsoft Mobile Devices, “Amidst the burgeoning market for touch-enabled smartphones, there was a latent need in the market for a premium quality, non-touch feature phone with enhanced features.”
