Notchless OnePlus 7 Leaks In The Wild

OnePlus is a Shenzhen based smartphone manufacturer that came into existence in the year 2013. Albeit it is a budding company in contrast to competitors like Apple and Samsung, it has made its mark in the heavily crowded smartphone industry. Late last year the company launched the OnePlus 6T smartphone which has received a warm welcome globally. For the past three years, the company has been launching two smartphones each year. Accordingly, the company will launch the OnePlus 7 smartphone before the Q2 of 2019 ends. The first renders of the upcoming smartphone were leaked weeks after the launch of OnePlus 6T. Freshly leaked live images suggest that the future smartphone will be a big leap forward from the current device.

The live images of OnePlus 7 were leaked on Twitter which reveals a smartphone with a notch less display and minimal bezels. Certainly, the device posing in the image is a OnePlus smartphone as the signature OnePlus icons are clearly visible on its screen. Noteworthy, the alleged OnePlus 7 smartphone does not have a notch display to accommodate the front facing selfie camera. The images shared on Twitter were captured in an improperly lit environment. Therefore, it is hard to make out what the device exactly looks like. Past leaks have claimed that the OnePlus 7 smartphone will have a sliding display like the Mi Mix 3 which has concealed selfie camera and ambient light sensor.

    Expectations and Launch Date

    • Upgraded Chipset- The OnePlus 7 is expected to feature the latest chipset from Qualcomm which is the Snapdragon 855. The SoC consists of an Octa-Core CPU and Adreno 640 GPU.
    • Larger Display- Although the OnePlus 6T sports a 6.41 inch display which is one of the largest on flagship smartphones, its successor the OnePlus 7 is plausible to have an even larger display.
    • Larger Battery- The OnePlus 6T is powered by a 3700 mAh battery which was bumped by 400 mAh from the OnePlus 6‘s 3300 mAh. The upcoming OnePlus 7 is likely to pack a larger size battery as its competitors like Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Galaxy S10 Plus have a battery larger than 4,000 mAh.
    • Faster Charging Support- The regular variant of the OnePlus 6T supports 20 watts Dash charge. While the limited McLaren edition OnePlus 6T supports 30 watt Warp charge. Accordingly, OnePlus 7 is also expected to feature faster charging Warp charge.

OnePlus has not announced the launch date of the OnePlus 7 smartphone. Going by the past OnePlus launch cycles, the upcoming device will launch sometime in the month of May or June this year.

  • OnePlus To Soon Introduce Native Google Duo Calling

OnePlus To Soon Introduce Native Google Duo Calling

OnePlus will soon introduce Google Duo as its native video calling service throughout the OxygenOS ecosystem. This comes after the Chinese smartphone company announced in a blog post of an update that will be available to a few OnePlus 6/6T users. This will initially be a closed beta update which will roll out as a stable build later. It will also be introduced to older devices in the future update.

The update was first rolled out on February 12 in small batches. It arrives as the version OxygenOS 9.0.12 for the OnePlus 6T and OxygenOS 9.0.4 for OnePlus 6. According to the official changelog, there are quite a few changes with the update. The update pushes the security patch level of the devices from December 2018 to January 2019. It will also integrate Google Duo deeply into the OxygenOS. Apart from that, there are some bug fixes and system improvements.

This update will first be available for OnePlus 6/6T devices which will soon be followed by older devices like the OnePlus 5/5T. The Google Duo video calling capability will be integrated across many native functions such as Call Logs, Contacts, Dial Pad, and Messaging. The users will also continue to have access to the traditional carrier video call option if there is any.

Notably, the native Google Duo integration has been available for stock Android since the release of Android 9 Pie. It seems to be a promising step on OnePlus’s part as Google Duo is one of the highest rated video calling applications across mobile platforms. In typical OnePlus fashion, the device users can provide their feedback regarding the update on the company’s forum.

  • OnePlus Will Showcase A 5G Smartphone At MWC 2019

OnePlus Will Showcase A 5G Smartphone At MWC 2019

The Mobile World Congress or MWC will kick off on the 25th of February 2019.  This years show is primarily focused on 5G.  5G has also been the focus of the tech industry since mid 2018. This year however, there may finally be devices that will support the fifth generation of mobile networks aka 5G.

OnePlus, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, had promised to release a 5G enabled device in 2019. And OnePlus has confirmed that a prototype will be available to try and experience the future of mobile networks.

    OnePlus’s statement reads:

OnePlus, at Qualcomm’s booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10), invites all to connect and communicate with our community over a 5G network. Attendees will also be able to experience the capabilities of 5G gaming on a OnePlus 5G prototype. Keep an eye out for the limited-edition Qualcomm x OnePlus pin badge, only available at the OnePlus stand

OnePlus 5G Device, What We Know?

This OnePlus 5G device will not just be a prototype, OnePlus plans on releasing the device in a few months. The device will have some flagship level specifications. It would feature the Snapdragon 855 and the Qualcomm X50 chip to support 5G networks. The device may also be a little thick, as the 5G modem requires more space inside. OnePlus said last year that this device will not be the OnePlus 7, but rather a separate series altogether, so it may not be available in high volumes, and ,ay just end up being a limited edition device.

The OnePlus 5G prototype that will be showcased. may not end up being the final product that will launch later this year. The device will also be considerably more expensive. The cost of equipping a smartphone with 5G capable chips is expensive at this point so expect a US $200 to US $300 ( roughly Rs. 14000 to Rs. 20,000) difference in the price. This would mean the Indian price of the OnePlus 5G smartphone may be around Rs. 60,000.

  • OnePlus Sends Invites For An Exclusive Event At MWC

OnePlus Sends Invites For An Exclusive Event At MWC

OnePlus has seen unprecedented success over the last few years. The primary reason for the success would be the brand’s ideology which, has been the same since the beginning. OnePlus has always delivered on its promise of a premium experience on a budget. And it seems like the company has some big plans going forward. OnePlus has sent out media invites for an event held within closed doors at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona.

The invite reads “Join OnePlus at Ultramarinos where drinks and a taste of the future will be on us. We’ll be celebrating MWC 2019 at this exclusive, invite-only event.” It is highly unlikely that OnePlus will launch something at the event. The event is expected to be rather just a discussion about what the future holds for OnePlus and smartphones. OnePlus has held similar events in the past, during MWC, and have usually been just networking events.

What Will OnePlus Showcase At The Event?

With the launch of a completely new device or product out of the window; OnePlus is expected to show something revolutionary at the event. Considering the exclusive invite and the cryptic message alongside it, there is definitely something the brand is trying to pull off. OnePlus announced in December that it will be among the first to use the Snapdragon 855. Maybe it is the new OnePlus device they will showcase, but that seems highly unlikely. OnePlus also promised a 5G device in 2019, so it may showcase that technology at the event.

OnePlus is expected to launch the next generation of its flagship in a few months. The device is said to have an all-new design and Snapdragon 855. Maybe the event is scheduled to give people a sneak peek of the device before its official launch. OnePlus is definitely planning something big that we may see in the coming months.

  • OnePlus Wants Users To Design The Next OxygenOS Feature

OnePlus Wants Users To Design The Next OxygenOS Feature

In the plethora of Android makers overloading their smartphones with skins and unnecessary bloatware, OxygenOS truly stands out. It is the closest a maker has gotten to stock Android with some great improvements over it. The gestures are better than the Pixel phones, there is an dark mode which works like one, and super quick updates. These are just some of the features OxygenOS offers that aren’t available in most Android devices.

Looks like it is about to get even better as OnePlus has started a competition. Called the #PMChallenge, it will let the users pitch an idea of a feature they want. Enough reasons and a good implementation and you may see the feature in the next update. OnePlus announced the competition on its forum.

    Competition Details

OnePlus has made the process of submitting you entry fairly simple. You have to Submit a PRD (product requirements document) answering the following questions. You have to keep #PMChallenge in the title. Also, all of this needs to be posted in the Tech section before February 22.

    • Who are the users?
    • What is the proposed function?
    • What is the user value?
    • If there are existing comparable functions in the smartphone industry, how is your proposed feature superior?

The software team will check the entries and will announce the winners by mid of March. In the forum post, OnePlus says that it gets hundreds of suggestions everyday which may get overlooked. Also, by this competition, it will help them go through every suggestions and would definitely help them to make OxygenOS a better platform for its users.

  • OnePlus 6T Vs Honor View20 : Specs Comparison

OnePlus 6T Vs Honor View20 : Specs Comparison

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 6T smartphone late last year which has turned out to be one of the best smartphones in its segment. The freshly launched Honor View20 is similarly priced to the former and will definitely give the OnePlus 6T a good run for its money. Here is a detailed spec comparison of the reigning champ and the new guy in town.

    Display

Both the OnePlus 6T and Honor View20 have excellent displays with Full HD resolution. However, the former shines in this area as it uses an AMOLED display panel. The LCD display on the Honor View20 is undoubtedly good but it cannot match the illumination prowess of an AMOLED panel. Also, the OnePlus 6T has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 to protect it against hard surfaces and sharp objects.

    Processor & Fingerprint sensor

The OnePlus 6T features the Snapdragon 845 Soc while the Honor View20 packs the Kirin 980 SoC. Notably, the Kirin 980 is manufactured using 7 nm manufacturing process which translates in less power consumption and longer battery life. Some of our initial testings also revealed that the Honor View20 was able to load the infamous Pubg mobile slightly faster than its contender. The OnePlus 6T has the futuristic under-display fingerprint sensor while the Honor View20 has a conventional rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. All in all, the fingerprint sensor on both smartphones is very responsive and snappy.

    User Interface & OS

Both the OnePlus 6T and Honor View20 run on the latest Android 9.0 Pie and are skinned with custom UI’s of their respective companies. The former runs on OnePlus’s OxygenOS while the latter runs on Magic UI 2. As the two devices run on the latest Android OS, it is more of a consumer’s choice what Android skin suits their needs. Worth mentioning OnePlus is renowned for providing fast Android updates and similar is expected for the upcoming Android Q. While less information is available is about the update timeline for the Honor View20.

    Camera

The OnePlus 6T has an f/2.0 aperture equipped 16 MP selfie snapper and the Honor View20 boasts an f/2.0 aperture equipped 25 MP front camera. At least on paper, the front camera of the latter outdoes the OnePlus 6T. Both smartphones have a dual rear camera setup but are comprised of completely different sensors. The Honor View20 has an f/1.8 aperture equipped 48 MP Sony IMX 586 sensor and a 3D TOF (Time Of Flight) camera. The OnePlus 6T, on the other hand, features an f/1.7 aperture equipped 16 MP sensor and a 20 MP wide lens sensor.

    Battery and Storage

The OnePlus 6T has a 3,700 mAh battery while its competitor, the Honor View20 is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery. Not only does the View20 pack a larger capacity battery, the 7 nm Kirin 980 further contributes in a longer battery backup. In terms of charging speed, both the smartphones support this feature and can be charged with 20 w of maximum power.

Both the OnePlus 6T and Honor View20 have an exceptional build quality and are loaded with remarkable features. The Honor View20 exceeds the OnePlus 6T with its fascinating look, faster SoC, larger battery and better camera resolution. However, the OnePlus 6T strikes back with the outstanding AMOLED display panel, Gorilla Glass 6, butter smooth OxygenOS, and the futuristic under display fingerprint sensor.

  • OnePlus 6T Users Face Rapid Battery-Draining Bug

OnePlus 6T Users Face Rapid Battery-Draining Bug

A lot of users have reported that their OnePlus 6T is losing battery rapidly, without any apparent cause. A Reddit user said that his OnePlus 6T’s battery life was almost halved all of a sudden. And that was without any heavy stress on the phone. Even after shutting down all the background applications, the battery life wasn’t reverted back.

    OnePlus 6T Battery

The OnePlus 6T has been very popular since its launch in October 2018. With an onscreen fingerprint reader and a load of other quirky features, it was an instant favourite among the OnePlus user base. The device sports a 3700 mAh battery, which can easily handle a day’s worth of tasks. On top of that, it has DashCharge, which charges it from 0 to 60% under 35 minutes.

    Suggested Fixes

The Reddit user even mentioned that he tried updating the software to the latest version for the T-Mobile version, but in vain. Also, clearing the cache from the phone and Google Play Services didn’t help either. After various comments were added to his post, he tried factory resetting his phone and installing a battery saver. The only thing that apparently worked for him was putting his OnePlus 6T on airplane mode, which almost restored his battery life. Obviously, this doesn’t count as a fix.

Various fixes provided by different users included checking for bad cookies or malware on the device, rooting the device and installing a custom ROM. Since the issue is fairly recent, OnePlus 6T users would have to wait for an official fix or at least a response from the community. You can try limiting the number of background processes in the Developer options. But that’s about it. Are you having the same problem with your OnePlus 6T? Let us know in the comments below!

  • OnePlus 7 May Have Wireless Charging

OnePlus 7 May Have Wireless Charging

Information for the next OnePlus device is already pouring in as the launch for the OnePlus 7 comes inevitably closer.  If industry trends are to go by, OnePlus phones might soon feature wireless charging. OnePlus is slowly moving from the budget flagship tag to becoming a full fledged flagship phone and in doing so they will slowly introduce features and benefits that other competing flagships have. These include wireless charging, IP Rating and better cameras. While we know very little about the upcoming phone from OnePlus, we do know that they like to share certain technology with their sister company Oppo.

Oppo has joined the ‘Wireless Power Consortium’. The consortium is an an open, collaborative standards development group of more than 600+ company members around the globe. The members include big names such as Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

Oppo had refrained from wireless charging so far. They have not used this charging technology citing that the technology is not upto the mark since their Super VOOC technology can charge faster. OnePlus’ reasons are similar and the company has said that they will include wireless charging when they figure out a way to include fast charging technology onto wireless chargers.

Oppo joining the consortium maybe a good sign as it might mean their next flagship featuring wireless charging which might eventually lead to wireless charging supported on OnePlus devices. While the industry suspects that this technology will be available on OnePlus 7, we feel it might be added to the OnePlus 7T six months from April/May 2019.

  • OnePlus 7 Leaks: What We Know So Far

OnePlus 7 Leaks: What We Know So Far

OnePlus is known to release a new phone every year, six months after their ‘T’ series release. So the new OnePlus 7 phone is due this March or April and we are stoked! Over the past few months there has been several leaks and speculations and in this article we list what we know about the much rumoured phone so far.

    No Notch

One of the recurring themes of the leaks so far have been the absence of a notch in the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 6 featured a full fledged notch while just six months later, the notch was turned into a water-drop one on the 6T. If this trend continues, the notch could very well be removed on the OnePlus 7.

Moreover, BBK Electronics owned Oppo and Vivo have both tried to remove the notch completely by using ingenious ways like sliding camera, sliding back panel etc. If trends are anything to go by, OnePlus has been known to borrow technology that has been well received by the market. A prime example is the in- display fingerprint sensor which first appeared on a Vivo phone and then was featured on the OnePlus 6T. The absence of the notch will mean the phone will either have a retractable camera or a sliding back.

    Optional 5G

The era of 5G is upon us and OnePlus being one of the industry leaders, won’t be far behind. The company has confirmed that a 5G model of the phone will be made available to the European market at a premium. OnePlus’ CEO also stated that the 5G model will be $200-300 more than the 4G one.

    More Than Two Rear Cameras

OnePlus 5 was the first phone in the company’s stable to feature dual rear cameras. With most high end smartphones like the Huawei Mate Pro being sold with three rear cameras, it won’t be a surprise if OnePlus goes the same route. This rumour also comes from our next point.

    Round Camera Bump

The rumour of the OnePlus 7 with more than two rear cameras comes from an image leak where OnePlus officials are seen using a phone with a round camera bump that looks quite big for two cameras. While it isn’t clear if the leaked photo is just a prototype phone or the upcoming OnePlus 7, it will be interesting to see how the company implements the three camera setup and what lenses they choose to put in it.

    Hardware Speculations

There are several specification leaks as well and some guesses based on past OnePlus device features about the hardware of the upcoming OnePlus 7. The phone will feature a Snapdragon 855 processor which is the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm. The OnePlus 6T has 6GB and 8GB RAM options with 128GB and 256GB  but we expect more from the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 will probably have 8GB and 10 GB RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage. The phone will also feature a larger and more efficient battery compared to the 3700 mAh battery seen on the OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 5 And OnePlus 5T Start Receiving Android Pie Stable Update

The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T were launched in 2017. Since their release, the OnePlus 6 and OnePLus 6T have also been launched. But this doesn’t mean that the company leaves them behind when it comes to software updates. OnePlus has started rolling out the Oxygen OS update to bring Android 9 Pie to these devices. Android 9 Pie is the latest version of the popular OS and was already present on the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T.

The update was due, as OnePlus had released an Open Beta program for the same, a couple of weeks back. This would have ensured that any last minute bugs on the new update were brought to notice and immediately rectified. Now, the company is rolling out the Oxygen OS 9.0.0 update. The changes brought with the update are as follows.

The first major change is the Android 9 Pie Operating System. Along with this, users get a brand new UI, for Android Pie. OnePlus 5T users also get new navigation gestures, however, this won’t reach OnePlus 5 users. Users also get an updated Android Security patch for December 2018.

OnePlus has also added a new Gaming mode, the Gaming Mode 3.0 This involves additional text notification mode and added notification for third-party calls. THe OnePLus 5 and OnePlus 5T also get a new Do Not Disturb mode with advanced and adjustable settings. The camera on both the devices now get Google lens support as well.

  • Upcoming OnePlus Device Leaks, Shows Off Brand New Design

Upcoming OnePlus Device Leaks, Shows Off Brand New Design

Shortly after the launch of the OnePlus 6T, the company announced that other than the next flagship, they will be launching a 5G handset, which will belong to an entirely new lineup. Now, a leak gives us the first look at the alleged OnePlus 5G device. While some may argue that this could be the OnePlus 7 as well, the chances of the same seem to be slim as the 5G phone will launch before the OnePlus 7.

The biggest change we can notice right off the bat is the brand new design language. The rear of the phone houses a circular camera module. While the image is not clear enough to see whether it sports dual or triple rear cameras, we can expect something innovative emerging from this camera setup. It is possible that OnePlus might be experimenting with the newly announced Sony sensor for mobile phones. Sony had announced a 48 MP camera sensor earlier this year. The giant camera module reminds us of the Lumia phones with the unbelievably high resolution.

The edges of the phone also seem to me more squarish when compared to the present OnePlus phones. There are two colours of the phone seen in the image, one being white and the other being red. Seeing the these are not conventional OnePlus colours, it is evident that this is a special edition phone. However, it is also highly possible that this leak could not be so credible. The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition smartphone was recently launched in the UK. Now the company has also announced it for the Indian market. It is a limited edition variant of the OnePlus 6T which the company has developed in collaboration with British supercar manufacturer, McLaren. Although the new variant borrows a lot of specifications from the regular variant, the new features make it stand out. The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition not only has a beautiful rear design it also gets Warp Charge 30 and 10 GB of RAM. It is the first global smartphone to offer this high capacity of RAM.

    Design:

The OnePlus 6T Mclaren Edition, like its regular variant, has a high screen-to-body ratio with a waterdrop notch at the front. The right side of the device makes room for the power button and the sound profile slider while the left side houses the volume rockers. Over at bottom, the device has a USB Type-C port, the loudspeaker grille, and the microphone grille. The rear of the device gets a newly designed back panel which houses the dual camera setup with LED flash. The glass panel has a carbon fiber like design and the signature McLaren Orange Papaya coloured accent runs along its bottom and sides.

    Display:

The OnePlus 6T Mclaren Edition has a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display with a small waterdrop notch. The display panel has a Full HD resolution of 2340 x 1080 px and a pixel density of 402 ppi. The display has a screen to body ratio of 85.6% and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Additionally, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition’s display has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 to protect it against scratches and accidental drops.

    Processor:

The McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T runs on the 10 nm, Snapdragon 845 SoC. The Snapdragon 845 consists of an Octa-Core CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. The CPU consists four Kryo 385 Gold cores and four 385 Silver Cores. For high performance, the Kryo 385 Gold cores have a clock frequency of 2.8 GHz and for better battery backup the Kryo 385 Silver cores have a clock frequency of 1.7 GHz.

    Memory & Storage:

The new limited McLaren Edition variant of the OnePlus 6T gets 10 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. In terms of internal storage, the device has 256 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Both, LPDDR4X RAM andUFS 2.1 contribute in making the smartphone extremely fast. Like other OnePlus smartphones, it does not support memory expandability.

    Camera:

The OnePlus 6T Mclaren Edition has a 16 MP (Sony IMX 371), f 2.0 aperture equipped front-facing camera sensor which is housed in the notch. Over at the rear, the device gets dual 16 MP (Sony IMX 519) + 20 MP (Sony IMX 376K) camera sensors. Both the 16 MP and the 20 MP sensor are equipped with a f/1.7 aperture. Most notably, the 16 MP camera has a 1.22-micron size pixel which allows for better light absorption. Therefore, the device can capture well-lit pictures even in low light conditions. The smartphone can also capture 2160p videos at 60fps from the rear cameras and 1080p videos at 30 fps from the front camera.

    Battery:

Like the regular variant, the McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T packs a 3,700 mAh Lithium-Ion battery. However, the new device now supports Warp Charge which charges the device with 30 watts of power. In comparison, the dash charge on the regular variant charges the handset at only 20 watts. Therefore this is a 50% boost from the old technology. According to OnePlus, the limited edition variant can be charged up to 50% in under 20 minutes.

To support this rapid charge, both the phone and the charger now have an integrated circuit chip. OnePlus also ships the device with a Papaya Orange coloured braided cable which is essential to support the Warp charge. Furthermore, the McLaren Edition variant does not thermal throttle. It means that the device will continue to charge at a rapid pace even if the device gets hot or is being used to run CPU intensive tasks.

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition variant, like the regular variant, also supports dual 4G VoLTE, dual-band 802.11 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, NFC, and GPS.
