Report: iPhone Users Will Be Able to Use Samsung’s Gear S2

The Samsung Gear S2 was announced on the 31st of August, and has since been receiving relatively good feedback, as compared to Samsung’s previous smartwatches. It came with a 1.2” circular Super AMOLED display with 360 x 360 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, a 250mAh battery, a rotating bezel, a stainless steel body with IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and most importantly was compatible with all Android devices with Android 4.4 and up with more than 1.56GB of RAM.

With all the above specifications and more, it seemed to have become a seemingly strong competitor to the Apple Watch. As mentioned above, it is compatible with all Android phones with Android 4.4 and up with more than 1.56GB of RAM.  So, this category would easily cover, Asus, HTC, Huawei, Kyocera, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Xiaomi etc. But, here’s the crazy new thing – Samsung is doing for its new smartwatch – it’s extending it’s compatibility to the iPhone. So, now iPhone users who are envying Samsung’s Gear S2 can actually use it now. Well, here’s to Samsung finally catching up.

  • iPhone 7 Expected to be as Thin as the iPod Touch at 6.5mm

iPhone 7 Expected to be as Thin as the iPod Touch at 6.5mm

Apple is just three days away from announcing its upcoming iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and there are already rumours and reports about what the iPhone 7 is going to look like. Of course one is just assuming that the next flagship after the 6s Plus will be called the iPhone 7.

    ipodtouch2015

Now apparently, a KGI report says that the next iPhone, which is now being referred to as, the iPhone 7 could be as thin as the iPod touch, with a body between 6 and 6.5 mm. The exterior design of the iPhone doesn’t change very often, and that will be the case even with the iPhone 6s and 6s plus.

The iPhone 6 is 6.9 mm and the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1 mm, so this iPhone 7 will be comparatively much slimmer. This could possibly be the size zero version of all iPhones till date. The new report also tells us that the next-gen iPhone will have the Force Touch technology, as is expected from the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

    iPod Touch

KGI also suggests that Apple will not be moving to glass screen technology anytime soon, and will continue to stick to the in-cell panels. The in-cell panel, while limiting the maximum screen resolution, allows Apple to create slimmer products. Thereby, adding weightage to the iPhone 7 rumours.

Anyway, the iPhone 7 is perhaps a long way away, but for now, you can focus on the upcoming iPhone 6s and 6s Plus release on the 9th of September. Watch this space for more information.

  • iPhone 6s and 6s Plus to have Next-Gen 3-D Touch Interface

iPhone 6s and 6s Plus to have Next-Gen 3-D Touch Interface

The new iPhones, ready for their launch this week, will boast of a ‘3-D Touch’, along with a next-gen Force Touch Interface, according to 9to5 Mac. The phones will feature a next-generation version of a Force Touch seen in the latest MacBook trackpads and the Apple Watch.

While the trackpads and Apple Watch work on two levels, namely of press and tap, this updated version of Force Touch will feature a deeper press in addition to these. Thus, the feature has been rightly termed ‘3-D Touch’. The sensors would be taking into account three different types of touch rather than two. What has got buyers excited is the potential of new shortcut actions and commands likely to be part of the iPhone 6s version of iOS 9.

Citing the examples provided by 9to5 Mac, the new ‘3-D Touch’ feature of the device would allow a more convenient use of apps related to maps and music. Another added advantage of Touch would be the ease in using short-cuts. Many gestures will also be similar to Apple’s latest MacBooks like the ability to open a link in Safari using Force Touch to see a preview of that webpage. Deep pressing on an address or contact name to see a preview of a map or contact card, is another of its features. Force Touch will also allow the user to look up a word for its definition.

iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Might Come With the Same Old Storage Options

We’re all waiting for Apple to release its upcoming iPhone 6s and 6s plus on the 9th of September at its event. There have been a bunch of rumours floating around, about the two devices and the latest one is that a memo that was being passed around at KGI Securities has been leaked, and suggests that the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be arriving with the same storage options as the current generation – 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.

    iPhone-6-side-screen-concept

Furthermore, the iPhone camera, which is already pretty cool, is going to be upgraded to wait-for-it 12 megapixels. This means that the new iPhone will be able to capture 4k videos and will thus catch up with perhaps, the latest Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.

Apart from this, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are expected to come with Force Touch technology and an A9 chipset. However, the RAM will reportedly be the same. With September 11th 2015 having been claimed as the pre-order date, we can just wait and watch what Apple has this time.

  • Apple Files Patent For Laptop Battery That Runs for Weeks Without Charge

Apple Files Patent For Laptop Battery That Runs for Weeks Without Charge

According to a report by CNET, Apple is working on tackling the one universal problem of the tech industry; battery life. The company has reportedly filed a patent application published by US Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday, for a “Fuel Cell System to Power a Portable Computing Device.” According to the application, it is an internal power system that would make the device run for “days or even weeks without refueling.”

Though Apple was unavailable for comment, it is public knowledge it wasn’t their first patent application. First reported by 9to5Mac, the application from last week is Apple’s second attempt since the first application in 2011. The company hopes to create a power source using fuel cells that would be designed into electronics without adding extra weight.

Though similar designs have been explored in the past, none of those plans have truly materialized. Fuel cells have mostly been used as portable charging sources but Apple aims to create fuel cells in-built within the device itself. The technology has gained importance in the recent past mainly because not only is it a reliable and convenient battery replacement but also because it’s a potential alternative to traditional fossil fuels, like oil and gas. If achieved, this would be a major breakthrough in the tech world.

  • Samsung’s Gear S2 to take Android Wear by Storm

Samsung’s Gear S2 to take Android Wear by Storm

Samsung released its newest addition to the smartwatch category in the form of the Gear S2 at IFA this year. It runs on Tizen, a deviation from what Samsung’s competitors have been doing so far with their smartwatches. However, the most exciting feature of this smartwatch is it’s compatibility with non-Samsung phones. As opposed to all of the previous smartwatches, Samsung has finally launched a product that is not limited by this condition.

This swanky little watch is compatible with any Android smartphone with at least 1.5 GB of RAM that runs Android 4.4. and above. It’s light weight with comfortable elastomer bands and the body is smaller than previous models measuring 40 mm in width instead of 42. The leather strap and the bezel further adds to the swagger of this smartwatch. If this wasn’t enough, Samsung has added Wi-Fi, ESPN sports updates, news tickers and NFC to woo the buyers further.

  • Sony Plans To Assemble and Manufacture Smartphones In India Soon

Sony Plans To Assemble and Manufacture Smartphones In India Soon

New reports from Sony Corp tell us that the company is in talks with Foxconn to assemble its Xperia smartphones in India and even manufacture them. They’re looking to produce some “sub-Rs 10,000” models that are going to be designed specifically for the local market in India.

    Sony Xperia Z5 Premium 36

Sony isn’t the only company that is looking towards India. Even Chinese companies are looking towards the Indian market which is currently the fourth largest market for smartphones and is set to become the second largest by 2017. Lenovo had announced that it would start locally manufacturing smartphones in Chennai, while Xiaomi had also announced its first manufacturing unit in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.

All this had begun out of the Indian Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, that has attracted many smartphone companies to assemble and manufacture products in India. Let’s wait and hope for the best.

  • Latest Leak About iPhone 6s Camera: A 400% Boost According to Reports

Latest Leak About iPhone 6s Camera: A 400% Boost According to Reports

A report by Forbes announced a 400% boost in the front camera of the latest iPhones to be released on 9th September. According to MacRumors, the selfie camera would be upgraded to 5 MP, pleasing selfie and FaceTime aficionados all over. This is indeed a big leap from the current 1.2 MP of the iPhone 6. A better quality front camera inevitably makes it one of the most anticipated features of the new iPhones.

In addition to this, a post by 9to5Mac mentions a rear camera case which is not made of Sapphire. If reports are to be believed this is perhaps because of failure during drop tests.

“Aside from upgrading rear camera module to 12MP, Apple will upgrade front camera module to 5MP […] The new iPhone may not be equipped with sapphire cover lens, as it still has quality issues on the drop test.” Ming-Chi Kuo – source, 9to5Mac.

  • Rumour: LG Releasing a Phone With a Secondary ‘Ticker’ Display

Rumour: LG Releasing a Phone With a Secondary ‘Ticker’ Display

New rumours about LG suggest that it is going to launch a phone called the V10 with a “ticker” display above the main screen. A ticker display is basically one in which information is scrolled across the top or bottom of a screen. This kind of display setting has previously been used on Samsung’s Continuum Galaxy S Verizon variant.

This has been leaked by Evan Blass and reveals that this new phone, that is, the V10 will have a 5.7-inch 2,560 x 1,440 screen, Snapdragon 808 CPU, 3GB memory, 16 megapixel rear/5 megapixel front cameras, expandable memory and a back fingerprint scanner.

The phone also is said to have a removable-looking plastic back and a metal frame. Further rumours also suggest that it could come with a dual SIM. There is no further information, and nothing has been officially confirmed.

We’re not sure what LG will put on the ticker — perhaps some kind of launcher like Samsung uses on the curved sides of the Galaxy Note Edge. While the phone has a removable-looking plastic back, the frame itself appears to be metal, according to the Tenaa photos (which have since been pulled). Provided all this info is correct, we should see the handset imminently, given that it’s cleared the regulatory hurdle. With the dual-sim setup shown in the Tenaa listing, there’s no guarantee it’ll come to North America or Europe.

  • Xiaomi’s First Teaser of the Mi 5 Hints at a Fingerprint Scanner

Xiaomi’s First Teaser of the Mi 5 Hints at a Fingerprint Scanner

Since the past year, we’ve heard several rumours about the upcoming Mi 5. However, there has been no official confirmation about the existence of the smartphone – before today. The latest rumours about Xiaomi suggests that the chipset for the upcoming flagship, Xiaomi Mi 5, could be either a new generation of Snapdragon 810 or 820 or the MediaTek Helio X20 with ten-core tri-cluster processor.

    mi5 teaser

This information has been procured from AnTuTu’s result database. Therefore, up till now we know that the Mi 5 could also come with a 5.3″ Quad HD display, 4 gigs of RAM, a 16MP OIS camera and a USC Type C port.

However, the so-called teaser image also shows that there might be a possibility of the new handset having a fingerprint scanner. None of these reports have been confirmed so far. Stay tuned for more updates.

  • Final Rumour Roundup : What to Expect From Apple’s iPhone 6s

Final Rumour Roundup : What to Expect From Apple’s iPhone 6s

What we already know about the new iPhones is that they are going to be launched on the ninth of this month, the event will take place at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco and that it will be one of the biggest so far in the history of the company.  While Apple poses itself to charm potential customers, let’s do a quick recap of what we think these gizmos are going to be all about.

The launch is expected to include two new iPhones; 6s and 6s Plus, to be made ready for shipping, later this month. The phones will be first shipped to Apple’s ‘first-tier’ countries – Germany, Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, the U.K. and the U.S, and mainland China.

    Price

The iPhone 6s is presently said to arrive at 699 euros which is Rs.52,084 approximately, for the 16GB version. The 64GB version is said to be 799 euros which is Rs.59,529 approximately, while the 128GB version might be 899 euros which is Rs.66,980 approximately.

These figures are taken from a Dutch blog called Tech Tastic which also mentions that the 6s Plus will cost 100 euros more for the same amount of storage space.

    iPhone 6 Plus 2

    Storage

Reports about the new iPhones clear doubts about a speculated increase in storage space, with Apple having already stated that people don’t really need more space since they’re using the cloud to store their documents and pictures anyway.

The added feature of being able to take 4k videos on the device is also likely to cause trouble with storage, especially for the buyers of the 16 GB variant. They would then be forced to upgrade the iCloud storage and dump their files on that, or look for alternatives.

    Processor

The device is rumoured to have a Force Touch display, an A9 processor, and 2 GB of RAM. A9 is also expected to have two cores running at 1.80GHz. A new NFC chip from NXP and labelled 66VP2 is also expected to be inside the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

    Battery

cnBeta marks the new battery capacities of the iPhone 6s at 1715 mAh and iPhone 6S Plus at 2750 mAh. These can be compared to the iPhone 6 at 1810 mAh and iPhone 6 Plus at 2910 mAh.

Since iPhone-users are already struggling with battery life, this doesn’t come as a welcomed change. Despite many power enhancement updates in iOS 9, a bigger battery is always more appreciated. Also considering that the newer ‘S’ version iPhones usually have a bump in hardware, power consumption might get affected.

    Display:

    iPhone 6 Plus 19

In terms of display, the gadgets are expected to have a 1125 x 2000 resolution along with a pixel density of 488ppi. According to rumours, the company may offer a new colour variant -rose pink, in addition to the gold, silver and space grey variant.

One of the most anticipated features of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is the Force Touch Display. This has been seen earlier in Apple Watch and the new Macbook, as well as in Huawei’s Mate S which has a similar Force Touch technology, While the trackpads and Apple Watch work on two levels, namely of press and tap, this updated version of Force Touch will feature a deeper press in addition to these. Thus, the feature has been rightly termed ‘3-D Touch’. The sensors would be taking into account three different types of touch rather than two. What has got buyers excited is the potential of new shortcut actions and commands likely to be part of the iPhone 6s version of iOS 9.

    Physical Features

The new iPhones are expected to be heavier than the predecessors, by a few grams. But according to several sources, Apple is looking to reduce the thickness of its already delicate smartphones. Post the “bendgate” issue last year, this is perhaps not the smartest choice to make. However, good news around the new iPhones’ construction is the use of 7000 series Aluminium, which is stronger and more resilient. You can also expect Apple to reinforce the iPhones with a stronger inner structure.

A partially put together iPhone 6s tells us it’s likely to have a thickness of 7.08 mm, compared to its 6.9 mm thick predecessor. It’s height is likely to measure around 138.19 mm tall compared to 138.1 mm for the iPhone 6, and the width may be a 67.68 mm compared to the 67.16 mm wide iPhone 6.

The iPhones are going to keep the design from last year, which may disappoint many buyers. With the S6 Edge as the benchmark of design, those looking for a new iPhone will need to push their purchases to next year and wait for the iPhone 7.

    Camera

With the iPhone stuck in the 8MP cycle for many a years, the company is expected to bump up the camera to 12 MP. This will allow the phone to capture 4K video, however this will not make the camera near as high resolution as the 16 MP sensors from Samsung. We can also not expect the Aperture to be around f1.9, the new iPhones are expected to keep f2.0 – f2.2.

If a report by Forbes is to be believed, all is not downhill for the new cameras. The front camera will be of 5 MP. ensuring better FaceTime and selfie opportunities to users. This improvement is sure to put iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in the same league as its major competitor Samsung Galaxy S6.

With September 9th being just 5 days away, the countdown for the biggest Apple launch has begun. Stay tuned for more information.

Apple Brings 4K to the 21.5 inch iMac this October

This October would bring in Apple’s new 4K screen to its 21.5 inch iMac. It will come equipped with a resolution of 4096 x 2304, an improvement from its previous1920 x 1080, by the end of next month. This launch will take place alongside OS X El Capitan making the product ready for shipping by November.

New features will include faster processors and improved colour saturation. Sadly enough, the higher resolution will, in all probability, increase the price of the new iMac, reminiscent of the 5K display which raised the price of the 27-inch iMac last year. However, the current model of the 27-inch iMac might still be available for sale post the launch.
