A poll conducted in the US revealed that a vast number of people use smartphones while driving. The survey was conducted with 1300 people and about 80% of the participants confessed to using their smartphones while driving. However the frequency of the usage varied across users.
It seems technology is only getting more and more life-threatening every day. You may think your latest selfie is cool enough to be posted on Facebook immediately, but it’s definitely not cool enough for you to risk your life over it. Surprise, surprise.
Micromax spinoff , Yu televentures, launched the YUtopia today, this also marks Micromax/Yu’s first entry into the high end flagship scene for a price of Rs. 24999 .The handset ties in a lot of firsts for the company and also a good overall hardware package.
The Yutopia comes with an all metal construction from a single shell of alloy. Manufactured completely in India, the handset resembles and appears to be a premium version of the Yuphoria.
The phone is just 7.2 mm in thickness and around 155 grams in weight. It is well balanced and has a very lumia like camera protruding from the back.
The phone comes with good in-box accessories, including a screen protector, and house of Marley earphones The final box is expected to ship with an included back case.
YU Yutopia Box
The company has launched the phone on preorders on the website Amazon.in, and is expected to go on sale in late December.
While the Qualcomm snapdragon 810 chipset is surrounded by woes of heating, it seems adequate steps have been taken to ensure that heat is dissipated from the device and vents are seen around the back of the phone, disguised as microphone grills. The chipset runs on 2.0GHz octal core CPUs ensuring good in-hand feel especially when tied in with Cyanogen.
The 5.2 inch QHD display is also a first from the company and may be a first in the segment this year, with Oneplus leaving it out on the OnePlus 2. Leaving out the traditional Corning Gorilla Glass, the phone comes with CORNING CONCORE GLASS which is already fused with the display made by Sharp and considered the same as Gorilla Glass 3.
The 21 MP camera made by Sony seems promising, and is capable of capturing 4K video. The camera is fast and responsive and captures a lot of detail.

Update:Within 12 hours of issuing it, the ban has been revoked. WhatsApp is working again in Brazil, for now.
Looks like it’s time to shove that smartphone aside for two days and look up from the phone screen if you’re in Brazil. The country has closed WhatsApp for 48 hours. Reasons for this have not been disclosed.
In the past, there has been much ado by Brazil’s telecommunication companies to curb interaction on WhatsApp. They claim that the free calling feature of the app is illegal and requires stricter regulations. In an attempt to distinguish itself from countries like the US, especially post the entire NSA spying scandal, Brazil had passed net neutrality laws in 2014, the internet ‘Bill of Rights’ being an example. Two years down the line, things seem to be taking a turn for the worse in Brazil. Soon, individuals would have to enter their address and phone numbers, among other details, to be able to use websites and apps.
With the government having given no explicit reason for this 48-hour long ban, the current picture is just as hazy as the future of WhatsApp in Brazil. The ban has already let to a huge uproar with grievances being expressed on social media. At the same time, WhatsApp competitors like Telegram are doing exceptionally well. Let’s see where it goes from here for the Brazilian cyber space and internet laws.

As we all know, Qualcomm is ready to start off the new year with its new and powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset. And it has also been rumoured that many of 2016’s flagship devices will sport the new chipset. However, word around the rumour mill is that Samsung is planning to keep the chipset to itself for the first three months.
Here’s why that is. As you may also know that Samsung is planning to unveil its next flagship Galaxy S7 devices. These devices will come in two versions. One will sport Qualcomm’s newest chipset while the other will feature the Exynos 8890 chipset. And Samsung wants exclusive rights to the Snapdragon 820, at least initially. The company wants to show off the new SoC with the Galaxy S7 before anyone else gets there.
So what does this mean for other companies like Xiaomi which is ready to launch the Mi 5 flagship smartphone with the Snapdragon 820 chipset? The Chinese company had already delayed the launch that was initially supposed to take place in December due to the launch of the Snapdragon 820 chipset. Now, if rumours are true and Samsung does indeed hold exclusive rights to the next-gen SoC until April, then this would mean that other flagship devices like the Mi 5 and LG G5 won’t see a launch in the first quarter.
Samsung’s next flagship smartphone has been rumoured to come with a pressure sensitive screen (like Apple’s 3D Touch), a retina scanner, a USB Type-C port, and an improved camera, among other things.
There have been lots of rumours about the specs of Yutopia doing the rounds lately. Some of the most interesting ones include the following:
Camera:
The smartphone is rumoured to arrive with a whopping 21 MP main camera. Of late, YU has been releasing images on the internet taken by Yutopia’s camera. We took a look at some of them and they seem pretty neat.
A teaser picture taken by the #yutopia
The front camera would be marked at 8 MP.
Battery:
YU has released a number of teasers for its upcoming smartphone, and many of them take a jibe at OnePlus and Apple. YU took a dig at specifically the new iPhones in terms of battery claiming to outdo them with Yutopia’s 3,000 mAh battery. Let’s see if the company actually manages to fulfill its promise.
Chipset:
The YU Yutopia is expected to be powered by a 64 bit class Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, backed by 4 GB of RAM. With an expected price close to 20K, this makes it the cheapest phone to be equipped with this chipset.
Cyanogen:
The tech world is rife with speculations of trouble in paradise between YU and Cyanogen, the open source operating system. Thought Kirt McMaster, the CTO of Cyanogen has explicitly denied any trouble between the two in the past couple of months, it still looks like it might just be the end of the road for them.
Additionally, the launch tomorrow was initially supposed to happen on the 7th of this month, but it was delayed because YU has another product lined up to release with Yutopia. It could perhaps be an OS, a replacement of sorts for Cyanogen. Only time will tell.
Yutopia could also include a 5.2 inch display and 32 GB of expandable internal memory. As the phone makes some big promises with regards to its high resolution camera, powerful battery, enhanced display and metal body, let us hope it’s not all just empty talk.
Flipkart studied consumer trends and preferences between 1st January and 14th December 2014, and concluded that mobile phones and accessories are the most in demand products across India. Additionally, Delhi NCR ranked as the city with maximum purchases of mobile phones, beating Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai – in that order. Another set of stats by Amazon revealed that 60% of its customers belong to Delhi NCR.
Mobile phones and accessories, LED television sets and smart wearables are doing immensely well with customers. It has also been revealed that 69% of online customers were males -yes, that’s the sound of shattering stereotypes related to shopping.

The age group that dominates the e-retail space is 25 to 34 years, predominantly office-goers followed by students. Is that what you’re doing all day at work or in college then?
This huge shift to online shopping marks a significant development in the consumer-supplier relationship. As more and more buyers become tech savvy, the movement to online platforms gains immense importance, especially when it comes to electronic goods. Looks like it’s been a good day for technology.
Bluboo, the Chinese manufacturer, may not exactly belong to the same league as OnePlus, Xiaomi or Huawei, but it’s definitely trying its best to make it there. The company is now reportedly working on Picasso, its new smartphone, and is trying to make it the first of its kind device.
Sources suggest that Picasso has an entirely sapphire display and is undergoing security and reliability tests right now. Sapphire is the second hardest element in the world after diamond and therefore is quite a fancy choice for the screen of a gadget.
A sapphire screen is highly resistant to scratches and breaking. Because sapphire is very costly, screens made out of the material have been restricted to small, premium and luxury devices in the past like high-end watches and some Vertu smartphones.
Bluboo incorporating sapphire in the screen of Picasso is definitely a first of its kind move. However, let’s see what this does to the price tag of the smartphone. Do you think smartphones need a sturdier screen, and if yes, could Bluboo may have found an (albeit super-expensive) answer?
We’re nearing the holidays now and it feels like we haven’t done enough when it comes to holiday shopping. Yes, you might be saving up on some big purchases but how about some cheap little gadgets that will not only cheer up your holiday but will also fill up those socks you’ve got pinned up for Christmas. This portable mini USB fan comes in handy when you find your laptop heating up even in December. The fan can be hooked up to your laptop using a USB cable, and also comes with re-chargeable batteries that lets the fan run for about 2-3 hours. The fan is available for Rs. 899 on Amazon.in.
Sennheiser Earphones
Earphones are so common that they often go unnoticed in lists involving technologies under Rs. 1000. A good pair of earphones goes a long way. Whether you’re travelling to work by bus or trying to cut off outside noise in your office, music and earphones are always needed. And if you’ve been using the same earphones for years now, a change is always good for the new year. According to popular and trustworthy Apple insider, KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPad Air 3 is set to launch in the first half of 2016. Kuo also stated that the upcoming 9.7-inch Apple tablet will not come 3D Touch capabilities.
…new iPad Air 3 in 1H16F unlikely to feature 3D Touch. We forecast that iPad Air 3 will opt not to feature 3D Touch because of production issues.
Kuo also said that the “3D Touch [is] one of the most severe production bottlenecks in iPhone 6s supply chain.” There have been no further details on the specs of the iPad Air 3 and we’ll no more as we approach the launch. It is likely that Apple will hold an event for the iPad Air 3 along with the rumoured 4-inch iPhone 6c.
Meanwhile, Kuo also states that the upcoming iPhone 7 flagship will include 3D Touch as was expected, and will have “similar technology & structure as the iPhone 6s.” The iPhone 7 launch will likely take place next September.
We hate to say,”we told you so”, but the cat is out of the bag. It is no big secret that India was one of the most expensive places in the world just two months ago if you were planning to buy the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. But as predicted by iGyaan a couple of weeks ago, the iPhones have undergone significant fall in pricing.
iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, launched with a starting price of Rs. 62,000 and going up to a Rs. 92,000, were much costlier than the same products in the American and European markets. The prices have now come down significantly, especially after a decline in the demand in the country.
The iPhone 6s shows a whopping price drop of Rs.11,000. There is a fall in prices of the iPhone 6s Plus as well but this isn’t as drastic as the 6s. Also, what is surprising is that the cheapest iPhone 6s Plus is the rose gold variant at a price of about Rs. 65,000 and Rs. 84,000 from its earlier Rs. 72,000 and Rs. 92,000 respectively. The rose gold variant was the most popular option for pre-order globally, but clearly it didn’t go down too well with Indian consumers.
Additionally, the iPhone 5s which was launched last year in 2014, is being sold at a price lower than most of the places in the world. The phone now falls in the mid-range price bracket with a price close to 20K.
Looks like there has never been a better time to buy iPhones in India.
Looks like Lenovo will soon reveal the successor to the K3 Note smartphone. The Chinese company posted a teaser image on Twitter with a message that reads “Prepare for the dawn of the new #KillerNote.”
It is likely that the device will be known as the K4 Note, and is expected to launch in India first since the teaser was posted on Lenovo India’s account. Furthermore, the launch is expected to take place some time in January.
Lenovo K3 Note
Not much is known at this time on the specs front other than rumours of a MediaTek Helio X10 chipset and a fingerprint sensor, which have not been confirmed by the company. Two things the teaser does reveal is that the device will come with a USB Type-C port and a metal frame.
Xiaomi fans are eagerly anticipating the new flagship smartphone, Mi 5, for a while now. The company has been delaying the launch of the device which was earlier supposed to come out by the end of this year, but will now see an early 2016 launch. This is also due to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor due to feature in flagship devices in 2016.
For those who want to know a little more about the upcoming flagship device, we have something for you today. An online retailer’s website, Oppomart, has listed the Xiaomi Mi 5 along with what is quite possibly the confirmed specs of the device. (Update: the device has been taken down from the site)
The specifications confirm what have been rumoured about the device including the fact that it will indeed feature Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood. The Mi 5 will sport a 5.5-inch screen with quad HD (2560×1440) display, 20MP primary camera and an 8MP front.
The device will also come with 3,800mAh battery and 4G LTE support. RAM is set at 4GB and will offer 16GB/64GB/128GB storage options. The flagship is listed at a price of $599 ( Rs. 40000 approx.). It will also be available in classic white and black colours.
The actual look of the device is still a mystery as different sources have revealed different designs. The price listed on the website could differ after the actual launch of the device, but it does look likely that the company will stick to this price tag considering the next-gen specs listed. We’ll know more as we reach closer to the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 5.
