  • Seagate Announces Hard Drive With 2TB Capacity In a 7MM Package

Seagate Announces Hard Drive With 2TB Capacity In a 7MM Package

Seagate Technology, has announced a new hard disk that can offer 2TB of storage capacity in a 7mm package. This new development will help in the production of mobile products that can cater to the modern stylus. This can be fitted into a thin, light-weight, fast, power-efficient and cost-effective handset.

    Seagate_Seven_01

This new hard drive weighs 3.17 oz which is said to be 25% lighter than its predecessors and further makes itself practical and useful by being able to free up valuable space in a mobile device to accommodate additional designed-in features like – bigger batteries, more memory and better air circulation.

“In an industry first, our engineers have been able to boost areal density to 1TB per platter in a 2.5-inch form factor, which will give OEMs the flexibility to design and build virtually any kind of mobile device they can envision, with plenty of storage to boot,” said Mark Re, Seagate’s chief technology officer.

This 2TB hard drive is capable of storing more than ” 500,000 songs, 320,000 photos, and 240 hours of high definition videos or 26 hours of 4K ultra-high definition content.” The hard drive comes in an HDD format, however, Seagate is currently said to be examining a Hybrid version that could come with a NAND flash.

  • IFA Berlin ’15: What to Expect

IFA Berlin ’15: What to Expect

IFA Berlin, originally a radio exhibition, has now become a red-letter event in the tech world. One of the oldest industrial exhibitions, it is a consumer electronics trade fair which holds a record of 2.4 billion euro of placed orders.

What you can expect from the event is a myriad of smart-phones, smart-watches, tablets and laptops up for display for potential customers and the international media. About 7000 journalists from over 75 countries have attended and covered this event in the past. IFA has previously been the launch platform of various fancy gadgets, Samsung Galaxy Note series being an example.

The first week of September thus marks Europe’s biggest exhibition of new consumer electronics, and therefore the most perfectly prepared market for the gizmo connoisseur. With all eyes glued on one of the most important events of the tech calendar, here’s a quick look at the many ways we can expect our minds to be blown away over the course of the next three days.IFA Berlin

    Samsung

Starting with a consistent flag-bearer of the event – the brand is expected to launch its new smart-watch, the Gear S2 at the event. Although Samsung has already revealed most of the details about its upcoming smartwatch, the company promised to give a more in-depth presentation at IFA.

    Asus

Closely followed by Samsung is Asus’s ZenWatch2 whose price and release date is likely to be announced at the event. The company has promised “dramatically improved” features which include better recharging times with a magnetic connector. Knowing its track record, it is highly unlikely Asus would make an appearance with only one gadget. Hold tight for more updates on what Asus have to offer this year.

    Motorola

Motorola is in toe of these major brands with its launch of the 2nd generation of Moto 360, another gizmo falling in the smartwatch category. This one will be available in two different sizes.

    Sony

Sony has been fairly quiet about its presence in IFA this year, however it won’t be wrong to expect a slice from its growing range of wearable devices and an expanding set of 4K cameras and TVs. Sony is also expected to release its Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium at the IFA Berlin event today.

Click here to read more about the upcoming Sony smartphones.

    Xperia-Z5-Press_2

    LG

The stage is set for the LG Rolly portable keyboard. This full-sized QWERTY keyboard for smartphones and tablets rolls up into a stick and therefore is convenient to carry around. Backed by a AAA battery, it is bluetooth enabled and is expected to last three months before running out of power. It would be interesting to note the response to this little gadget –if it’s worth the hoopla or will it be too fancy for any practical purpose. LG has declared September as the tentative time when it will be available for sale in the US.

    Huawei

If rumours are to be believed, Huawei is expected to bring into action its own version of Force Touch technology, present in the Apple watch and speculated to be part of the next iPhone. Apple has described Force Touch as the “most significant new sensing capability” for it included Multi?Touch in older MacBook laptops. A Force Touch includes the usual gestures like scrolling and swiping along with a customisable feature in the trackpad called Force Touch. The users can adjust the feature’s sensitivity enabling them to determine the pressure required to determine a click.

Additionally, updates on the price and release date of the Android Wear-running Huawei Watch are also expected to be announced this IFA.

    Lenovo

The company has kept its plans carefully and deliberately under wraps this year. However the air is rife with rumours of a 5.5-inch Vibe P1 Android handset that would perhaps be coupled with a 5,000mAh battery.

    Microsoft

If Intel manages to market its Skylake range quickly enough, there is much to look forward to in terms of the Wintel combination. Intel’s Kirk Skaugen has already said, “Windows 10 and Skylake processors were ‘designed together.” Today at IFA, the entire Skylake range is going to be released, covering perhaps the broadest range of devices in the company’s history. With Windows 10 now out, PC makers everywhere should expect all sorts of new things and updates since the processor and Windows updates have already lined up quite conveniently for some big news this year.

    windows-product-family-windows-10-one-platform

There are a whole bunch of other brands to watch out for. Not being mentioned separately does not reduce their importance and contribution at IFA ’15. If we would have it the Arthur C. Clarke way when he said, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”, it’s time to sit back and let the magic begin!

  • New Xperia Z5 Leak Shows Detailed Design and Specifications

New Xperia Z5 Leak Shows Detailed Design and Specifications

Sony is expected to release its Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium at the IFA Berlin event today. However, a new leak shows us detailed images of all the devices – the Xperia logo is engraved on one side, while the volume, camera, and power buttons are on the other side. The power button is said to also function as a fingerprint reader, while on the design front we can see the SONY name in the middle of the back with a small NFC logo above it.

The very anticipated 23MP camera can also be seen on the top-left corner. The device is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 810 SoC, and will have 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage, and an 8MP front facing camera, while the very anticipated 23MP camera can also be seen on the top-left corner.

Further reports suggest that the Z5 premium might come with a 5.5-inch 4K UHD display, the Z5 will have a 5.2-inch 1080p display, while the Z5 Compact is expected to have a 4 inch 720p display. • Samsung Officially Unveils The Gear S2 in Two Variants

Samsung Officially Unveils The Gear S2 in Two Variants

It seems like Samsung decided to leave nothing for the IFA Berlin 2015. Unlike last year, when we witnessed the unveiling of the Note 4 and Note 4 Edge at the mega electronics festival, this year Samsung has already unloaded all its blockbusters.

Coming to the new smartwatch – it is 11.4millimeter thin, comes with a 1.2-inch screen with a 360x360resolution (302ppi). To power the device, Samsung has used 1GHz dual-core processor and provided the option of 3G Connectivity. The Gear S2 runs on the company’s very own Tizen OS and uses a rotating bezel, along with the Home and Back buttons, for navigation. Samsung has also added NFC for mobile payments.

The Samsung Gear S2 reflects Samsung’s most progressive innovation. It is the perfect complement for any occasion, easily taking you from day to night, from work to workout

Perhaps, the highlight of the device would be the fact that the company claims it lasts upto 2-3 days on a single charge. Since a wearable is an extra ‘smart’ device that you need to carry around, a long-lasting battery is a necessity.  One of the exciting announcements is that the smartwatch has been announced in two variants – Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. Other than the design, the only major difference between the two is their size. The Classic has been built smaller and lighter than the Gear S2. For its timeless design, we’re leaning towards the Classic which comes with a black dial and a leather band.

Samsung also announced that there will be multiple apps already optimised with the watch when it is made available. Though they did not elaborate further on the same. We’re also currently awaiting a word on availability and pricing.

    Features Samsung Gear S2
    Display 1.2-inch, Circular Super AMOLED, 360×360, 302ppi

  • Android Wear Smartwatches are Now Compatible with the iPhone

Android Wear Smartwatches are Now Compatible with the iPhone

Finishing the day off with some good news for iPhone users – Android Wear will finally support Apple’s smartphones. In an official blog post, Google announced that they will be rolling out Android Wear for iOS.

Starting today, the LG Watch Urbane will work with iPhones and all upcoming Android smartwatches, by Motorola, Asus and Huawei, will be also iOS compatible. By this, we’re assuming Google was hinting at the upcoming Moto 360 (Gen 2), Asus ZenWatch 2 and Huawei Watch.

    AndroidWearforiOS

With a smartwatch one doesn’t have to constantly be on their phones in order to check the time, reply to emails, take calls, respond to text messages etc, instead all these activities can be completed by a few glances and voice notes.

Android Wear for iOS is rolling out today. Just pair your iPhone (iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus running iOS 8.2+) with an Android Wear watch to bring simple and helpful information right to your wrist.

We’re a fan of cross-compatibility –  if we would like to pair an Apple product with a Google product, their interactivity should be easy and seamless. For iPhone users, up until now, the only choice of a smartwatch was the Apple Watch, which has received mixed reviews. On the other hand, Android watches are cheaper and in some cases, more readily available. With this move, Google gives (nearly) everyone the option to buy and use Android watches.

    It’s now your turn, Apple.

  • Report: iPhone 6s and 6s Plus To Cost the Same As Its Predecessors

Report: iPhone 6s and 6s Plus To Cost the Same As Its Predecessors

According to reports, the new iPhone will cost the same as the current one. The iPhone 6s is presently said to arrive at 699 euros which is Rs.52,084 approximately, for the 16GB version. The 64GB version is said to be 799 euros which is Rs.59,529 approximately, while the 128GB version might be 899 euros which is Rs.66,980 approximately.

    iPhone 6 Plus 25

These figures have been quoted by a Dutch blog called Tech Tastic and also says that the 6S Plus will cost 100 euros more for the same amount of storage space. These new reports seem to clear doubts about a speculated increase in storage space, with Apple having already stated that people don’t really need more space since they’re using the cloud to store their documents and pictures anyway.

“The belief is more and more as we use iCloud services for documents and our photos and videos and music” said marketing executive Phil Schiller.

Apple is expected to launch the next iPhones on September 9th 2015. Watch this space for more details.

The Upcoming Fourth-Gen Apple TV To Be Priced Below $200

New reports have emerged about the upcoming Apple TV fourth-gen, that have revealed its pricing, availability, and product lineup plans. The new Apple TV will be priced below $200 and will be available in October. The price of this new device could range between $149 to $199, both having been noted as being higher than the third-gen Apple TV.

    apple-smart-tv

This new box will be more expensive than its competitors, however, Apple has decided to keep its $69 third-gen device on sale as an entry level model within the Apple TV product line. The Apple TV 4 is expected to be ‘thicker and slightly wider’ than its predecessor.

Some features that might be included in the new Apple TV would be – Siri support, a new remote control, an App Store with a Software Development Kit for developers, and a refreshed user interface. Other reports also imply, that Apple might plan to release a cable-replacing streaming TV service that bundles multiple television channels for a price as low as $40 per month, however the Apple TV would still require logins to cable networks to unlock the content.

The updated Apple TV will feature SIRI and an App Store.
The updated Apple TV will feature SIRI and an App Store.

This software that is supposed to enable Apple’s cable-replacement service is currently planned to also become available for the third-generation Apple TV. However, it has also been reported that the current model will not receive support for the upcoming App Store, nor will it be directly controllable by Siri.

Apple plans to reveal the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus on the 9th of September 2015. These two new devices are expected to come with the Force Touch technology, a new Rose Gold colour option, 12MP camera with 4K video, wireless chips from Qualcomm, A9 processors and improved front facing cameras. While, there were rumours about the unveiling of a third device, that was speculated as being the iPhone 6C – new reports deny it.

  • iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus May Disappoint

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus May Disappoint

Apple’s latest edition of their smartphone is all set to be launched on Sept 9th. However, with leaks and information of the devices all over the internet, it seems that the new iPhones will disappoint many.

New leaks from the Netherlands have confirmed that the price of the iPhone will remain at €699 for the 16 GB, with the 64GB and 128GB versions priced at €799 and €899 respectively. Which not only means that Apple will continue selling the low capacity 16 GB version, but it will also be at the same price as the iPhone 6.

It also has become known, thanks to cnBeta, that the new iPhones will have reduced battery capacities with the iPhone 6S at 1715 mAh and iPhone 6S Plus at 2750 mAh vs the iPhone 6 at 1810 mAh and iPhone 6 Plus at 2910 mAh.

    iPhone 6 Plus 2

This is potentially the worst of the news, as iPhones are already heavily struggling with battery life. Despite many power enhancement updates in iOS 9, a bigger battery is always more appreciated. Also considering that the newer “s” version iPhones usually have a bump in hardware, power consumption might get affected.

The new iPhones are also expected to be heavier that the predecessors, by a few grams. But according to several sources, Apple is looking to reduce the thickness of its already delicate smartphones.

bendgate on the iPhone 6 Plus
bendgate on the iPhone 6 Plus

Apple suffered heavy bad media last year thanks to the “bendgate” issues. A thinner iPhone may not be the company’s best bet. However, good news around the new iPhones’ construction is the use of 7000 series Aluminium, which is stronger and more resilient. You can also expect Apple to reinforce the  iPhones with a stronger inner structure.

One of the main reasons of the success of the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones has been their cameras. With the iPhone stuck in the 8MP cycle for many a years, the company is expected to bump up the camera to 12 MP. This will allow the phone to capture 4K video, however this will not make the camera near as high resolution as the 16 MP sensors from Samsung. We can also not expect the Aperture to be around f1.9, the new iPhones are expected to keep f2.0 – f2.2.

4k video also takes up more storage, which means that buyers of the 16 GB variant will be suffering major with storage issues. They would then be forced to upgrade the iCloud storage and dump their files on that, or look for alternatives.

The new iPhones are going to keep the design from last year, which also may disappoint many buyers. With the S6 Edge the new benchmark of design, those looking for a new iPhone will need to push their purchases to next year and wait for the iPhone 7.
