  • Toshiba, SanDisk Announce the First 256GB Memory Chip for Next-Gen iPhones

Toshiba, SanDisk Announce the First 256GB Memory Chip for Next-Gen iPhones

Toshiba and SanDisk have unveiled the first 256Gb 48 layer BiCS 3D flash memory. How is this connected to Apple? Both these companies are the two major flash providers for Apple’s iPhone 6. With this announcement, reports suggest, that the iPhone 7 which is expected to launch next year, could come with this hardware.

This means that with these 32GB flash modules the iPhone 7 would be potentially, faster and more efficient than anything else in the market. Reports also say that the new chip is-built on a 15nm process technology and will have twice the capacity of the most compact memory available in the markets today.

This new product can be used in smartphones, tablets, memory vards, SSDs etc. It is based on the 3D Bit Cost Scaling technology which enhances the write or erase reliability and can boost write speeds as compared to a 2D memory. It is also said to be able to store 3 bits of data per transistor.

However, neither Toshiba nor Apple have confirmed anything. The hardware company has not mentioned any potential clients for this product, although reports assume that Apple might stick to its usual suppliers and hence incorporate the new type of 3D NAND flash in their new device next year.

Toshiba has said that they will be sampling the new flash memory in September and announced that they are preparing for mass production of the device. This collaboration between SanDisk and Toshiba is said to be completed next year.

  • Airtel Launches Pan-India 4G Services

    Airtel Launches Pan-India 4G Services

Airtel, has been launching its 4G services in various parts of the country, such as Bangalore and very recently Delhi. However, today it has launched its all India 4G services. To use this, you will have to swap your SIM card to one that supports 4G connectivity. Airtel has made this change very easy and efficient by ensuring a swapped SIMs within 10 minutes and a 4 hour doorstep delivery system.

    airtel 4g_1

The pricing of the 4G connectivity remains the same as the 3G, making it an affordable switch –  something Indian customers always look forward to. Airtel is also launching an app called Wynk, that allows you to watch movies and videos on smartphones, as well as allows you to download and watch movies offline.

Various Airtel 4G services include an infinity plans which allows you to make unlimited calls with more data than usual, however not unlimited. The two cons of the 4G so far are – firstly, it uses up too much battery life and secondly, that it doesn’t have an unlimited data plan as yet.

With Airtel being the first mobile company in India to launch the 4G services, it is to be seen whether they capture the 4G market or not. Other companies such as Vodafone, are catching up to the 4G fever.

  • Kenwood USA Heads In a New Direction, Launches New Headphones

Kenwood USA Heads In a New Direction, Launches New Headphones

Kenwood USA, famously known for its multimedia system and car audio components, have ventured into a new category of products. The company has officially entered the headphone market and had invited a few selected retailers in an enclosed meeting area at the CES this year to give a glimpse of the new product.

The company debuted with three sets of headphones- two in-ear and one over-the-ear models, namely KH-CR500, KH-SR800 and the KH-KR900. All the headphones are designed for specific purposes. The in-ear KH-CR500 headphones have an $80 (Rs 5,104) suggested retail and come with three sets of memory-foam ear cushions and three sets of silicone. The waterproof KH-SR800 sports headphones cost $120 (Rs 7,656) and are designed to be worn without interfering with glasses, the cord and clip snaking behind the neck. They come with silicone and open-type ear pieces, the latter allowing ambient noise to flow in for runners and bikers. Both in-ear models have 10mm drivers. The third model, KH-KR900, has an over-ear, fold-flat design with 40mm drivers and a $200 (Rs 12,760) price tag. The housings feature four ports that are each tuned to specific frequencies, which Kenwood called its “Quad Duct Engine.” A detachable, 4-foot flat cord is included.

Each headphone is fitted with neodymium driver units and can be used with any Apple or Android devices.

Dave Hoag, Vice President of Sales, said

These headphones are part of a significant shift in our product philosophy, but it’s not the beginning of that shift. We understand that these days, on-the-go entertainment doesn’t always start or end in the vehicle. That’s why we’ve put so much into creating a connected in-vehicle environment, to allow consumers to enjoy streaming music services and digital downloads with a quality audio experience. These new headphones represent a continuation of that effort: letting drivers enjoy high-quality Kenwood sound wherever they go.

For now, the devices are available only in specific retail stores in the US and its availability in India isn’t known as yet.

  • LG’s New Flip Phone Comes With Android Lollipop and 4G Connectivity

LG’s New Flip Phone Comes With Android Lollipop and 4G Connectivity

We mentioned earlier that LG may come out with a smartphone that caters to that sect of customers that still appreciate the good old flip phones. Well, now it’s official. LG has launched a flip phone called the Wine Smart that will cater to a global audience.

“Our goal with LG Wine Smart was to create a smartphone that fans of flip phones could embrace. Consumers shouldn’t have to miss out on the smartphone revolution because they prefer a particular phone design over another. With LG Wine Smart, they won’t have to.”

This phone will not just release in its home market, South Korea, but also in select nations like France, Italy, Poland, Spain and Japan, followed by other regions. The pricing and availability of this phone is yet to be announced by the company and will be done at the time of launch.

LG Wine Smart has the same features as the LG Gentle as shown in the picture above
LG Wine Smart has the same features as the LG Gentle as shown in the picture above

The Wine Smart is a sort of upgrade to the previous LG Gentle and it is also better compared to the phone that the Korean company released last year, under the same name. The company stated:

“Thanks to the positive response to the original Wine Smart introduced in Korea last year, LG optimised the latest model with more advanced multimedia features to make the transition from feature phone to smartphone as seamless as possible.”

Specifications wise, the new LG Wine Smart has the same features and specs as that of the LG Gentle that had released last month. The LG Wine Smart smartphone features a single 3.2-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 320×480 pixels. This means it doesn’t have the front half screen that most flip phones are spotted with. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the flip phone is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core processor alongside 1GB of RAM. It also has 4GB of inbuilt storage along with an expandable storage via microSD card.

The phone sports a 3-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while also including a 0.3-megapixel front camera. It has a removable battery of 1700mAh. Apart from 4G LTE, the LG Wine Smart includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro-USB, and 3G connectivity options. It measures 117.7×58.7×16.6mm and weighs 143 grams.

What one can look forward to is the fact that the Wine Smart will come in two colours; Wine (Burgundy) and Navy Blue. The second thing that might either strike you or put you off, in an era of touch screens is that the flip phone features a T9 keyboard that will bring back good memories or perhaps frustrating ones. Lastly, the phone sports a leather-like finish on the rear panel.

The specs for the LG Wine Smart are as follows:

    Display 3.2-inch
    Processor 1.1GHz
    Front Camera 0.3-MP
    Rear Camera 3MP
    Resolution 320×480 pixels
    RAM 1GB
    OS Android 5.1.1
    Storage 4GB
    Battery capacity 1700mAh

Report : Apple’s Cheaper Option iPhone 6c to Release in 2016

Reports suggest, that the “iPhone 5c successor” will be launched in the second quarter of 2016. This report comes from Digitimes, who also points to the rumoured iPhone 6c, said to arrive with a 14/16nm FinFET chips from TSMC and Samsung, in order to provide a better performance and lower power consumption to the new lower range devices.

“The 14/16nm FinFET chips will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Samsung, the sources said. The original plan was to equip the devices with chips built using TSMC’s 20nm SoC process, said the sources, but the adoption of FinFET processors would enable specs upgrade and lower power consumption.”

Other sources like KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo also state that Apple is planning to launch a new 4 inch iPhone in 2016. Other rumours suggest that the iPhone 6c might be similar to the size of an iPhone 5s and will have a similar hardware vein as that of the iPhone 6. The smartphone is said to come with a full metal unibody construction in comparison to the plastic iPhone 5c.

  • Apple Rejects Rumours About Launching its Own MVNO Cellular Service

Apple Rejects Rumours About Launching its Own MVNO Cellular Service

Yesterday, we reported that Apple was looking to start a mobile wireless service. However, in a statement to CNBC, Apple has clarified and said that it “has not discussed and is not planning MVNO cellular service following reports saying it was planning on doing that.”

This statement crushed all rumours that Apple was looking to expand by exploring to become an MVNO. Besides, Google had also announced their own MVNO initiative, Project Fi. However, Apple has clearly rejected all rumours surrounding their own so-called initiative and has no plans to offer consumers an MVNO cellular service.

Even Tim Cook, had earlier stated that Apple doesn’t need to “own the pipe” and that their aim was to focus on making great and efficient devices while leaving the cellular issues to “people who own it” and “who know more about it than we do”

Recent reports claim, Apple is said to bring out a new desktop computer with a 21.5-inch display and a 4K resolution.  This new iMac has a 4096X2304 display and is said to release in a few months.

  • OnePlus’ Exclusive Invite System Gets Hacked

OnePlus’ Exclusive Invite System Gets Hacked

Line-cutting, is by far the most annoying thing on earth. This happens at banks, colleges, restaurants, coffee shops etc. and now it has happened on the, already miles long, OnePlus 2 sales line.

How did this happen? We are all aware that OnePlus has an exclusive system in place, if you want to get a hold of its new device – OnePlus 2. This system needs one to score an invite to avail the new device. The invites are limited in number and tough to get a hold of. However, even after registering for the device there are a couple of other things one needs to do in order to get ahead. For example- one has to be up to date with all the giveaways, one needs to pair up with a friend by using the invite that can be shared with friends or family, keep up with all the contests on social media about the new device, and one can even join the company’s forum to get a preference of receiving an invite.

    OnePlus 2 3

This system has been kept in place to ensure that they only manufacture enough inventory as the demand, so that the supply will never overpower the demand. Again you ask why? This is because they are a young start up and this system will help them manage their risks far better than a mass-scale production would.

    OnePlus 2 0

Now one particular user, Jake Cooper, an avid OnePlus follower, who fulfilled all these commands and finally got a position on the OnePlus invite waiting list at number 9000, was faced with a strange crisis after falling to a position of > 70,000 even after following all the processes. However, for the OnePlus 2, the company suggested, that in order to get ahead in line, one can refer as many friends to the invite list, and accordingly one’s position moves forward.

    OnePlus

His solution: he hacked the system via a number of technical manoeuvres, a couple of python lines and mailinator.com, and managed to send a number of references to random email ids through an affiliated account. He actually managed to get from > 70,000 in line to just 1,694 in about 20 minutes.

    OnePlus 2 12

However, he has actually notified OnePlus about the hack, and has even shared the entire procedure on a website, as to how he skipped so far ahead on an exclusive and protected line. He has also offered to take down the procedure if notified by OnePlus. For more details of how this happened, click here.

Do you approve of this technical manoeuvre?
