  • Dominos Just made a Pizza Delivery Robot

Dominos Just made a Pizza Delivery Robot

With a large number of pizzas delivered each day, one would think dominos would scale up technology to make the production of Pizzas more efficient, not deliveries. It looks like the future is filled with drones and Robots. The new robot known as DRU (Domino’s Robotic Unit) can travel at about 12 mph and can easily handle varied terrain though it’s not designed for major road use.

Think of deliveries happening in remote areas. The Pizza remains safe and hot and is only unlocked by a special mobile code sent to the recipient of the order. Wath the demo video below.

DRU uses a LIDAR sensory system that allows the unit to detect obstacles in its path and change its route accordingly. It measures objects and distance by illuminating them with a laser light. Each unit also comes equipped with traditional sensors that detect obstructions at close range, just like a robot vacuum cleaner.

It weighs approximately 190kg and has a maximum height of 1185mm (922mm with the compartment closed.) The body is constructed of ABS and urethane plastics, the lenses are made using PMMA (acrylic) plastics and the internal chassis is finished using aluminium and mild steel. It is water tight and weather proof.

  • Top Water Resistant Smartphones for this Holi

Top Water Resistant Smartphones for this Holi

India’s festival of color and water is just around the corner. While we would seriously advocate that you do not waste water and play a dry Holi. For those still willing to go all out, the smartphone is one of the biggest victims of an accident on and around the festival of Holi.

Imagine your phone gets struck by a water and color filled balloon, and moments later it is time to go hunting for a new one.

While every smartphone should now feature some kind of waterproofing, many companies do not agree with us. So if you plan on playing Rambo on Holi try the following smartphones guaranteed to last through the water filled festival. Zip lock bags and plastic wrapped phones are soon to be a thing of the past.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge

    Galaxy S7 S7 Edge - iGyaan Hands On 4

The latest and greatest flagship from Samsung is actually now iP68 rated, means that it will mostly survive if immersed for up to 30 minutes or 1.5 meters under (water). The glass and metal should also prevent it from easily getting colored by Holi colors, however, industrial dyes and the infamous gold men may be instrumental in helping you change the color of your handset from say black to Gold.

    iPhone 6s and 6s Plus

    iPhone 6s and 6s plus igyaan 2

Apple’s latest releases, to everyone’s surprise, do indeed feature a water resistant body. Though not rated or officially announced by Apple. This secretive water resistance was Apple’s way of reducing servicing costs and general user appreciation. Tested out by many people including us, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, turns out to be more resilient than Samsung’s latest and greatest S7 and S7 Edge. Offering up the same all metal design, the iPhone should fare well in colored water as long as you don’t have some serious stainers.

MotoG (gen 3) and Moto X Play

    Moto G Gen 3 5

Motorola has been adding water resistant coatings on their devices for a while, while not fully rugged they would help the phone survive spills of coffee or accidental drops in puddles. The Moto G gen 3 was a whole new breed from Motorola, with an IPX7 rating the phone is water resistant for up to 1 Meter and for a total of 30 minutes. The body is made from plastic, which may not do too well with colors, though. On the plus side, the back panel is cheap and easily replaceable. The X Play offers up a water resistant coating too though it may not survive dunking like the Moto G, however, may be less prone to color accidents or damage.

    Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact

    Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
    Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

With dual IP68 and IP65 ratings, the Xperia phones from Sony are no stranger to water. The revolution by far has ben led by the Japenese manufacturer who has led the water resistance category smartphones for a while.

With glass on both sides and a glossy metal bezel, the Xperia Z5 series is very resistant to color and water. As a matter of fact, the number 5 in the IP65 stands for resistance from water projected by a nozzle (6.3mm) against enclosure from any direction. Reminds you of a certain subject of this story doesn’t it.

    HTC Desire Eye

    HTC Desire Eye 0

With a whole lot of optical capability, the HTC Desire Eye makes our list. Although this complete plastic phone may not do so well with colors the HTC Desire Eye has serious cameras on the front and the back. With an IPX7 certification just like the Moto G, the phone will survive for 30 minutes under 1 m of water guaranteed.

Of course there are many other phones and gadgets that would easily survive the onset of Holi. Have any favorites add them to the list below.

  • iPhone 7 with 256 GB Storage Option Became More of a Reality

iPhone 7 with 256 GB Storage Option Became More of a Reality

Few earlier reports have pointed towards the fact that the iPhone 7 will now come with three storage options as always, however, the sizes may be 64GB, 128GB and 256GB and not the current 16GB 64GB and 128GB.

The below image shows a 256GB SanDisk NAND flash memory chip which is physically smaller than the company’s 64GB chip. This has been designed to fit in the future iPhone, iPad and well other smart devices including those from Apple, like the Apple TV and even Macbooks.

    sandisk-256gb-nand-memory-iphone-7-rumor

Sandisk has been one of the key suppliers to Apple for storage chips in the iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. And with the above image, it seems the rumors are drawing more to a possibility.

Apple has also used NAND flash chips from Samsung, SK Hynix and Toshiba. While Samsung has been parading its 256GB Nand flash chips and now that Sandisk has joined the party, Apple may not only have the right suppliers but also enough suppliers to amass the requirement for their next-gen iPhone 7.

  • AlphaGo AI Beats Lee Se-dol 3-0 to Win Google DeepMind Challenge Series

AlphaGo AI Beats Lee Se-dol 3-0 to Win Google DeepMind Challenge Series

The age old question whether Artificial Intelligence will one day take over the world has perhaps been answered. If you’ve been following the internet past few days, you will have heard that Google’s AI AlphaGo has been going one-on-one with 18-time world Go champion Lee Se-dol in a five match DeepMind Challenge Series. Today, in what is a historic victory for AI, AlphaGo beat Lee Se-dol 3-0 to clinch the series. Lee conceded the game after 176 moves.

AlphaGo is a program that was developed by DeepMind, a British AI company acquired by Google two years ago. Go is an ancient Chinese game that has been considered one of the toughest ever for an AI to beat at a world-class level. Go has been one of the most sought after AI challenges for its simplicity and elaborate possibilities.

    AlphaGo

Lee Se-dol’s loss to the AI three times in a row proved what many had felt unimaginable. Google has proved that AlphaGo is the next level of artificial intelligence. The third game further established the AI’s superiority. It was able to navigate tricky situations known as ko that didn’t come up in the prior two matches.

Now that AlphaGo has beaten Lee in three games, we wait to see if Lee can manage one win in the two games still left to play. If AlphaGo bases its moves on how Lee plays, then this means that the AI has been improving in each game, which would make the next one even harder for Lee to beat.

“I don’t know what to say and I would like to say sorry because I couldn’t show you my better results,” he said. “I think even if I go back I probably cannot defeat AlphaGo, and I think the competition was already settled in the second match.”

He said, “Humans have psychological issues while AlphaGo does not. Nevertheless, I think I will be able to discover AlphaGo’s weak points in the fourth and fifth match.

Apple vs FBI: DOJ Threatens to Force Apple into Turning Over iOS Source Code

The United States Department of Justice has decided to tighten the noose on Apple, and in its latest Communications has in harsh words revealed to Apple that it will force Apple to comply with the government body’s directives.

The feds have threatened Apple that if the Cupertino-based tech giant does not accept the FBI’s request to help it unlock the San Bernardino terrorism case suspect, Syed Farook’s phone, then the feds will with all their might force Apple to give up the entire source code of the iOS and the “private electronic signature” that is required for access to the code. With these, the FBI can essentially build its own Govt.OS and unlock the Apple iPhone 5c that was used by deceased terrorist Syed Farook.

    Apple store 1

This epic battle between the FBI and Apple is becoming more ugly by the day as only yesterday; Apple accused the DOJ of getting desperate, explaining why the government’s rhetoric bar has been raised in the last couple of days. Apple for its part has also been in attack mode as in-house attorney Bruce Sewell called the government’s filing a smear job.

Apple will go head to head against the government in court on the 22nd of this month after which there will be more clarity about the direction where things would move ahead in this particular case.

  • Popslate 2 E-Ink iPhone Case is What Every Phone Needs

Popslate 2 E-Ink iPhone Case is What Every Phone Needs

Last year, Popslate brought put its first E-Ink iPhone case that allowed the iPhone to sport a secondary E-ink display on the back. Users could use the secondary display for notifications. While the first Popslate iPhone case didn’t meet expectations, the Popslate 2 very much does. The company is at the forefront of pioneering e-paper screen on phone case, and Popslate 2 is what that case is.

    Popslate 2 02

The second iteration comes with a bigger 4.7-inch display at 200dpi, up from 4 inches and 115dpi. While the original Popslate case needed to be charged via Micro USB, the new one can be charged via the lightning cable, the same used to charge the iPhone. This means you’ll now be able to charge both the case and the iPhone simultaneously. Apart from this, the case has a backup battery that gives up to 9 hours talk time for your iPhone.

    Popslate 2 04

Popslate 2 was the answer to the question “What should the smart second screen really be?”. The Popslate 2 comes with new, always-on features like configurable Dashboards, richer news and information feeds. Other features include phone-sized clocks, a clutter-saving e-reader, a quick list maker, faster access to the digital wallet, and more.

    popslate 2 06

Popslate’s smart iPhone case can be seen as a great piece of innovation in recent times. With smartphone makers looking to make slimmer phones with bigger and bigger display, the ideas seem to end there. There are some brands who have managed to feature small strips of secondary screens on the front like LG, but a secondary display as big as the main something new indeed. And this is all thanks to the use of E-ink technology (the same used in Kindles and other E-readers).

Currently, the company is only focusing on cases for iPhones but also states that with the right partner, they will move to cases for Android devices as well. The company also said that until it understands the state of emerging markets before making any adjustments to pricing and will only then be able to bring these cases to countries like India.

The Popslate 2 is available for pre-order on Indiegogo today starting at $69, and $129 and $149 for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, respectively. Shipping of orders will begin from July.

  • First Plastic Eating Bacteria To Solve Waste Pollution Problems

First Plastic Eating Bacteria To Solve Waste Pollution Problems

Plastic, as a material of use, has become a common fixture in our busy metropolitan lives. From packaging, toys, to even clothing, plastic is widely used in our day to day lives. It presents itself as a cheaper and at most times, a more logical choice when compared to other alternatives that can be used for the manufacturing of household goods.

    bottles

Products made using plastic are lightweight and sturdy at the same time, but once discarded, because of its molecular composition, which makes it non-biodegradable, plastic can survive in the environment for a long time hence being a litter menace to the planet. But all that is about to change very soon.  Recently, a team at Kyoto University has found a microbe that can chew away at plastic down at the molecular level, hence making it biodegradable.

After five years of searching through scores of samples, the team has isolated a bacteria that could live on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), a common plastic used in bottles and clothing. They named the new species of bacteria Ideonella sakaiensis. The species fully breaks down Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which happens to be one of the most common strains of plastic produced today. Most common usage of PET is found in the packaging of bottled drinks.

According to estimates, over 70 million tons of PET plastic is produced every year around the globe, which takes close to 450 years to break down completely on its own. Plastic has as such become a major contributor to pollution today. This new breakthrough for good, could change the fate of the planet in the coming years.

  • Russia Working On “Nuclear Powered Engine” for Fast Travel to Mars

Russia Working On “Nuclear Powered Engine” for Fast Travel to Mars

Mars, for long has remained a planet which has captivated the imagination of the human race. For some reason, we have always maintained an obsession with the red planet making it become almost an enigma for us. Much of it is down to the fact that for all our technological advancements, we haven’t yet deciphered a fuel efficient and quick way to reach Mars, but all of it is about to change.

    Mars

Russia is reportedly working on a super-fast spaceship which will take Astronauts to Mars in 45 days, as compared to what is 18 months using the current generation rocket propulsion technology. Talking about this, head of Russia’s state nuclear body Rosatom, Sergey Kirienko said,

” A nuclear power unit makes it possible to reach Mars in a matter of one to one and a half months, providing the capability for maneuvering and acceleration. Today’s engines can only reach Mars in a year and a half, without the possibility the of return.”

    topaz space reactor

According to reports, a prototype nuclear drive could start testing by 2018. Traditional rocket engines are believed to have reached the limit of their potential and can’t be used for deep space exploration. The nuclear engine project was first launched in 2010 and by 2012, an engineering design had been created. The project’s budget is estimated at 20 billion rubles (about $US274 million). This is highly economical also in comparison to traditional rocket engines whose cost goes into 10s of Billions of US Dollars.

Needless to say that a “Nuclear powered” spaceship comes with its obvious set of risks. As with rockets, many do not manage to cross the earth’s atmosphere, and some even blow up at the site of launch. Keeping that in mind, having a nuclear-powered spaceship blow up in the atmosphere leading to radioactive debris falling from the air onto areas of our planet does sound like a dangerous idea. In 1978, a nuclear-powered Soviet satellite crashed in northern Canada, spewing radioactive waste over nearly 50,000 square miles. But having said that, we’re sure the Russians will have some failsafe in place for a mishap like this, or at least we hope they would.

  • Apple Launch Event Confirmed for 21st March; What to Expect

Apple Launch Event Confirmed for 21st March; What to Expect

Apple has finally put an end to all the speculation and announced the date for what will be a major day for the tech giant. The day will most likely see Apple announce a couple of new products at an event held at its headquarters in Cupertino. Along with these product launches, Apple is also expected to unveil new software for its Apple Watch, and new build of the OS X.

The launch event which comes a day before the crucial hearing of the high-profile case involving the FBI and Apple. The tech giant will no doubt look to make the event on 21st a blockbuster, and gain some positive press before the case hearing the next day.

    Apple invite

The invite sent out by Apple teases, ” Let’s Loop You In”. This could be a possible reference to the unveiling of new bands for the Apple Watch, or could simply be a play on words hinting at what is Apple’s idea of keeping the world in the loop about its product launches.

The event should see Apple launch the 4-inch iPhone Se. As rumours reveal, this phone will see modern day internal hardware crammed inside the body of the older generation iPhone 5. The iPhone Se will come packing an A9 SoC, along with a fingerprint sensor and a beefed up camera. The phone in a bid to not eat up into the premium iPhone 6S’ share will stay away from bringing premium features such as the 3-D Touch display found on the 6S and 6S Plus.

Apart from the new entrant to the iPhone lineup, the company is also widely expected to unveil the successor of the iPad Air 2 or even a smaller iPad Pro to the media present at the event. Let’s just hope Apple can match up to the hype that has been created regarding this event over the past couple of weeks.

  • Redmi 3 with Fingerprint Scanner Spotted at TENAA

Redmi 3 with Fingerprint Scanner Spotted at TENAA

Xiaomi had announced the Redmi 3 a couple of months ago but it seems that the device was not the only variant in the works. According to the Chinese certification site TENAA, a new variant of the Redmi 3 is soon to come out, and this one will feature a fingerprint scanner whereas the original one did not.

Fingerprint scanners on smartphones have become an important feature and one wonders why Xiaomi did not add it in the Redmi 3. However, a $100 price tag justifies no fingerprint scanner. The new Redmi 3 is rumoured to feature a 5-inch display with 720p resolution, 1.5 GHz octa-core CPU and 2GB of RAM with 16GB of storage. The new variant, however, might come with a smaller 3000mAh battery pack as compared to the 4100mAh battery in the original.

With a fingerprint scanner, the device is likely to be priced at RMB 799 ($122), an RMB 100 more than the original Redmi 3. It is still unknown when Xiaomi plans to launch the new variant but it could happen some time this month.
