2014 Mercedes S-Class Picture Leaked, First Car To Use Full LED Lighting
The first official picture of the 2014 Mercedes S-Class has apparently been revealed mistakingly by Mercedes Benz itself, a fortnight ahead of its 15th May unveiling. A photo of the redesigned luxury sedan apparently popped up on Benz’s Austrian consumer website; it allegedly was quickly taken down, but not before French site blogautomobile.fr snatched it and published it.
The redesigned S-Class closely follows Mercedes’ new direction in styling with smooth lines flowing down the car. It’s not as bold as some would’ve liked but is still as elegant and harmonious as its predecessor, if not more. The 2014 Mercedes S-Class will also be the first car to use full LED lighting with some new and astounding technology, typical of the top of the range Benz.

Image credit: Car and Driver Mercedes have already revealed a few pictures of the interiors of the new Mercedes S-Class, and it certainly meets if not exceeds the exterior’s promise of luxury. Sitting in the S-Class, one could be forgiven for feeling that they were in a Rolls or the now discontinued Maybach. The 2014 S-Class will be officially unveiled on the 15th of May, and should go on sale later this year.

Google Patents Touch Sensitive Wristband For Smartwatch
Engadget has posted an image of a new watch-based device, patented by Google, which would perform many of the same functions.
While the drawing does not necessarily mean such a product is in the works for commercial release, it does hint at an intriguing new direction for the company’s move into wearable computing.
The device itself is explicitly titled “Smart-watch with user interface features” by the USPTO patent so there’s no beating around the bush, but it’s the extra little bits we’re interested in.
For example, the watch, displayed in the accompanying illustration, also has two touchpads on either side of the display face. The patent says that you’ll be able to use these to “pinch, stretch and scroll on a platform with limited space available for user input.”
Given what we’ve previously heard about Google’s foray into the smartwatch domain, it sounded like Mountain View was separating its smartwatch and Google Glass development teams. But this new discovery makes a crossover seem more likely than ever.
This actually isn’t the first time we stumble upon a smartwatch patent application granted to Google. Last year, the company received a patent for such a device with augmented reality features.
It’s all pretty vague at the moment – understandably. But with Google I/O coming up you might just be able to get into the wearable tech game before too long.

Twitter Updates Android And iOS App, Expands Trends Locations
Twitter for iPhone has been updated today with some minor feature improvements and better support for in-line Vine videos. The Android version has also been updated.
The company has been rolling out updates to its mobile apps in quick succession since the beginning of the year, after clamping down on what third-party developers can do with their own software. This latest version for iOS adds Trends data to over 160 different cities around the world, including many in India, and improves in-line Vine video playback.
Vine was acquired by Twitter and has since been systematically integrated into the Twitter experience, while continuing to be available in a standalone Vine app. After the acquisition, rival social network Facebook moved to limit the ability to cross-post Vine videos from Twitter to Facebook in apparent retaliation for Twitter’s attempt to do the same to Facebook acquisition Instagram.
Perhaps the most important addition to the app is one that will come in under the radar. When replying to a retweeted Tweet — for example, if you see a Tweet I retweeted of someone you don’t follow — it will include both the original person and retweeter within the response. Users can also invite others from within the app itself. That, and bug fixes and performance improvements, round out changes made in this new version.
As for the Android version, the company now uses an overflow menu (the three dotted lines) on compatible devices such as the HTC One to quickly switch between accounts and access the settings.
The folks at Twitter have also said that users will now be able to “enjoy a smoother experience” courtesy of some bug fixes and other improvements.
The new versions of the apps also added the ability to invite friends to join Twitter from within the app.
You can download the updated version of Twitter for Android and iOS now from their respective app stores.

Facebook To Delete Beheading Videos After Complaints
Facebook has said it will delete videos of people being decapitated which had been spread on its site.
“We will remove instances of these videos that are reported to us while we evaluate our policy and approach to this type of content,” BBC News quotes Facebook.
The company had previously refused to remove several graphic clips, claiming people have a right to show the “world in which we live”.
The turn-about reportedly came after the California-based social network’s safety advisory board criticised the decision to leave the gruesome clips up at the website.
The warnings came after a one-minute long video was uploaded to the site last week showing a woman being beheaded by a masked man.
A voice heard on the footage suggests that it was filmed in Mexico. A second video clip showing the execution of two men has also been shared on the network after being posted last Wednesday. The victims say they are drug smugglers for a Mexican cartel before being attacked with a chainsaw and knife.
Celia Mellow, who started a petition calling for the clips to go, said she was ‘shocked’ by the images.
Meanwhile, Facebook last night announced first quarter revenues were up 38 per cent on 2012 to £938million. But shares were down 28p to £17.35.
Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said: ‘We’ve made a lot of progress in the first few months of the year.
‘We have seen strong growth and engagement across our community and launched several exciting products.’

Facebook Reports First Quarter Results, Reveals 751 Million Monthly Active Mobile Users
Facebook issued its first quarter results for the new year and made some pronouncements on the state of the mobile web and mobile advertising in general.
The company, which went public in 2012, now has 751 million monthly mobile users, up 54% from the same period last year. Considering that number comprises 68% of the company’s 1.11 billion total monthly active users, that is an astounding number.
In a recent study conducted by Facebook, it found that 70 percent of all respondents use Facebook on their phone — 61 percent of which use the service every day. The company also found out that out of all the things that could be done on a smartphone, being on Facebook was the third most popular activity. 70 percent said that the Facebook app has become one of the most commonly used applications — right below checking email (78 percent) and Web browsing (73 percent).
More impressive is the rate of growth: that 54% uptick in mobile users is much higher than the 23% increase in total active monthly users.
So while it’s not safe to say that Facebook’s growth has completely stopped, it only grew some 4.75% since last quarter, while mobile users were up nearly 11% in the same period. Advertising revenues have also seen a slight bump from mobile users; 30% of Facebook’s advertising revenue now comes from mobile devices, up from 14% in Q3 and 23% in Q4.
Facebook’s mobile apps are among the most popular on its respective platforms, and with an increasing number of “sponsored posts” littering users’ news feeds, it’s only a matter of time before that 30% number increases to over 50%.

Mercedes Benz To Launch A-Class On 30th May
Mercedes Benz is expected to launch the hotly awaited new A-Class hatchback in the Indian market on the 30th of May. Foraying into a relatively unexplored segment, the luxury hatchback is expected to make waves when it hits the market, as suggested by the success it has enjoyed in Europe earlier this year.
The new A-Class has a very striking design and will surely turn a lot of heads when it hits the market. A whopping 6 inches lower than its predecessor, it continues with Mercedes Benz’s new direction in styling, bringing forth a bold and sporty design. The low and sloping roofline along with the long hood impart the hatch an athletic stance and the ducted rear bumper as well as the diffuser add character to the well sculpted rear end. Flaunting a massive three-pointed star on the newly designed radiator grille with pride, the attention-seeking A-Class is all in all, very easy on the eyes.
Coming to the important bits under the hood, the A-Class is expected to have two engines on offer at its launch. A 1.6 -litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 122bhp and a 1.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine churning out 109 bhp and 250Nm of torque are the most likely variants we’ll see in India, although Mercedes Benz has given no confirmation yet.
Shortly after the launch of the B-Class Tourer, the A-Class will be Mercedes’ cheapest car on sale in India, at an estimated price of Rs. 18-20 Lakh. It will directly compete with BMW’s Mini Cooper line of cars, and later with the BMW 1 series and Audi A3 when they go on sale in India. The A-Class seems a very promising prospect at a competitive price and we can’t wait to see it on Indian roads. This exciting new luxury hatchback segment may very well shape the 3 German automotive giants’ fortunes in India in the coming years.

iOS 7 To Bring About “Dramatic Changes” To Email And Calender App
More details of iOS 7 continue to emerge ahead of Apple’s WWDC 2013 event in June. The latest information comes from Bloomberg, confirming that Apple has been overhauling the visual aesthetics of the user interface and even tweaking several core applications. Most notably, the publication hints towards redesigned email and calendar apps in iOS 7.
Bloomberg says that the design lead on the iOS 7 changes, Jony Ive, has been “exploring more dramatic changes to the e-mail and calendar tools.” It’s unclear if any major changes will make it into the final release, however. 9to5Mac recently stated that Apple would change the icons of its core apps, for instance, but didn’t mention any significant usability changes in those crucial apps.
Insiders say that Ive is now encouraging more communication between hardware and software teams, which previously – such as under former CEO Steve Jobs – would have been kept in isolation. That interaction also apparently includes bringing some members of the Mac team on to help the mobile software redesign, a temporary measure which has some history given Apple did the same thing in the run up to the original iOS release.
The worry is that drastic changes to applications and functions that have remained relatively stagnant since 2007 — things like email and calendars – could push back the release of iOS 7. While the revisions will move away from lifelike images and shift towards a “flatter” design, there will also be a greater emphasis on cleaning up software interactions. Ive and co. are also exploring new forms of gesture control for the next iteration of the iPhone and iPad operating system.
Apple is expected to announce iOS 7 at the world wide developer conference next month.

Microsoft Releases Facebook Beta For Windows Phone, Features High-Resolution Photos, Timeline And More
Facebook for Windows Phone, while maintaining a nice design, has always lagged behind its iOS and Android counterparts for features.
Microsoft is launching a new version of its Facebook app today in beta, bringing many of the most highly-requested features to Windows Phone users. Not only is the design a better compromise between the company’s existing mobile apps and the Windows Phone design guidelines, but it offers Timeline support, high-resolution images and post sharing.
Instead of showing a tiny preview, the beta Facebook app now allows pics embedded inside a post to take up all the horizontal screen estate. Basically the shots can take advantage of large high-resolution displays.
The new app supports left- and right-side sliding bars, much like Android and iOS, and they open smoothly with a swipe from either side. Any page, including specific timelines, the messaging folder or even specific brand pages, can be pinned to the home screen for easy access, and the app still supports using images from albums as lock screen art. Toast notifications are said to be more reliable as well.
“Once you’ve put the beta app through its paces, we hope you’ll pass along bug reports, feature requests, and other feedback by going to Settings>About in the app”, Microsoft says. “You can also post a Store review. Your comments and suggestions will inform future releases”.
While the beta is not quite stable, and cannot be found by searching in the Windows Store, it will go a long way to alleviating some of that cross-platform envy Windows Phone users have been feeling lately. No word on whether Chat Heads are coming to Windows Phone any time soon, but having native Facebook Messenger support from the Messages app should suffice for now. The beta will be installed alongside your current Facebook app until it comes out of beta.

HTC M4 Press Shot Leaked, Just A Smaller HTC One?
The HTC One is a beautiful phone – certainly the best that the company has produced. According to a post by the reputable Evleaks, HTC will be bringing the same quality of design to those looking seeking a mid-range device. This is the same strategy they did with the HTC One X and the One S.

This picture above, which has leaked online before, is of an all-aluminum device that currently goes by the code name of the “HTC M4″ (before the HTC One launched it was known as the M7). It’s reminiscent of the flagship One, but the specs have been scaled down. The HTC M4 reportedly sports a 4.3-inch 720p display, dual-core processor, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM and an UltraPixel camera.
Rumour has it that the upcoming HTC M4 will land on shelves with a 1700 mAh, non-removable battery packed inside, and that it will be released with Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean loaded on top right from the start.
The HTC M4 is expected to be announced sometime “near the end of the second quarter.” If true, you can almost expect availability in India, but no official word.
PhoneArena, the site posting the picture, also says that the HTC M4 will have 4G LTE capabilities, but likens it to the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.
For the time being, however, no official info on the smartphone has been provided, and it remains to be seen whether the rumored hardware specs mentioned above will indeed pan out. More details on the upcoming HTC M4 smartphone should emerge soon, so stay tuned to learn the news.

CERN Brings World’s First Website Back Online
The world’s first ever web page has been recreated by a team at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (Cern) as part of efforts to preserve the hardware and software which gave birth to the now ubiquitous network.
When you mention CERN these days, most people will think “large hadron collider but the clever folks over at CERN were also responsible for devising the fundamental web standards. As part of celebrating the World Wide Web’s 20th birthday they’re bringing back the first ever website to its original URL.
The website, naturally, looks pretty bare by today’s standards and contains only text explaining some of the basics of the World Wide Web.
It was originally available at this address — http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html— but for many years that URL has been redirecting to http://info.cern.ch.
But now it is again displaying the information that it did when it first went live.
“For many years, this URL has been dormant, inactive. It simply redirected to the web host root of http://info.cern.ch,” says Dan Noyes, web manager in the CERN communications group on the CERN webpages.
“We just put the files back online, using the archive that is hosted on the W3C site. This is a 1992 copy of the first website. This may be the earliest copy that we can find, but we’re going to keep looking for earlier ones.”
The hope is that the restoration of the first web page and web site will serve as a reminder and inspiration of the web’s fundamental values.
