iOS 13 Beta 3 Features FaceTime Attention Correction Feature

Apple announced iOS 13 back at WWDC 2019 event in June 2019. The latest version of the OS for Apple’s mobile devices was touted to sport many new practical and quality of life changes within it. The company has since allowed users to opt into the beta program to experience the software first-hand for themselves. The third version of the beta program has introduced many useful new features like the FaceTime Attention Correction.

Apple had released the public beta 1 alongside the developer beta 2 features for iOS 13 a couple of days ago. Betas for other products such as the iPadOS, watchOS 6, tvOS 13 and macOS Catalina have also been made available. Users who have already installed the previous versions of the iOS 13 beta will receive an update via OTA. It is only the third iterations of the beta so it will take a while before the live build is finally released.

A tweet was shared on Twitter that had showcased the feature in action with a side by side comparison to for reference. The aforementioned feature makes it seem like a user is looking at the camera even if they are not. The new feature employs visual trickery that allows for a more streamlined conversation on Apple’s video calling solution.

The demonstration showcased both the reworked and untouched images side by side. In the right is the person actually staring at the screen. On the left users can see the edit making it appear like the person is staring into the front camera. The new feature basically corrects eye positioning to make conversations via FaceTime more organic. Unfortunately, the feature is currently exclusive to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max flagships from Apple.

    Other New Features

The iOS 13 arrives with an all new redesigned action buttons on the Apple keyboard. A new description is also available for the Headphone Audio Levels, full-page screenshots and ‘Me’ tab in Find My App. The update brought changes to the Noise cancellation button in the Control Centre as well with new opacity options in iOS markup tool. A lot more minor new features and improvement have also been added since.

The final version of the iOS 13 is expected to be seen later in the year and will probably be launched alongside the upcoming iPhone. Apple’s new software technique will make video calling a lot more seamless. Users don’t need to consciously stare at the camera to hold a meaningful conversation for the other person. More updates regarding this will follow soon and should be available in the arriving weeks.

  • iOS 12: Everything You Need To Know

iOS 12: Everything You Need To Know

The first day of the World Wide Developer’s Conference 2018 was an eventful one. Many expected announcements were made and a few anticipated features were yet again snubbed. One of the highlights of WWDC 2018 was the unveiling of iOS 12. The next iteration of Apple’s mobile operating system which will, according to the company, see the biggest software roll-out yet. Apple announced that all the devices that were updated to iOS 11 will receive an update to iOS 12. Here is a list of all the iOS 12 compatible devices:

    • iPhone 5s
    • iPhone 6/6 Plus
    • iPhone 6s/6s Plus
    • iPhone SE
    • iPhone 7/7Plus
    • iPhone 8/8Plus
    • iPhone X
    • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2017)
    • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2016)
    • 10.5-inch iPad Pro
    • 9.7-inch iPad Pro
    • iPad Air 2
    • iPad Air
    • iPad (2017)
    • iPad Mini 4
    • iPad Mini 3
    • iPad Mini 2
    • iPod touch 6th generation

One of the issues with iOS 11 was that older devices became agonisingly slow with the new update. Apple has conceded that with iOS 12, the older devices will be about 40% faster and app-load times will be significantly lesser. This is great news for people who are still clinging on to their iPhone 5s or iPhone 6 and would want to upgrade to the latest version of iOS. Apple followed through with Tim Cook’s earlier remarks about iOS 12. The new version will not be a huge visual upgrade, in fact, it will be a performance upgrade for all devices, and not just older iPhones and iPads.

Apple also introduced a group calling feature in FaceTime.  Group FaceTime makes it easy to chat with multiple people at the same time. Participants can be added at any time, join later if the conversation is still active and choose to join using video or audio from an iPhone, iPad or Mac — or even participate using FaceTime audio from Apple Watch. Another interesting feature is the use of Memoji within FaceTime which just adds an extra bit of fun to video calls.

Apple also introduced a few features to Siri, Apple’s AI voice assistant. One of the new features added to Siri is Shortcuts. This will allow any app to access Siri using a particular phrase which can be personalised. Apps will have an ‘add to Siri’ option. For example, if you say “Siri I lost my keys,” Siri will automatically open the Tile app. Siri will also track a user’s activity within an app and predict actions for users at specific times. For example, if a user orders a coffee in the morning, Siri will automatically notify them to order the coffee with the usual order pre-decided.

Apple also claimed that new AR features will be introduced to iOS 12. One of the features is the new AR app called, Measure. As the name suggests, the app lets users measure real-life objects thanks to AR. It also automatically recognises rectangles and gives instant measurements. Impressively, the app can also measure in 3D, which means you can measure more than just the length or breadth of an object.

Apple also unveiled the AR sharing experience thanks ARKit 2.0. This means that developers can create apps that will let multiple users share the same experience or play the same game. Won’t be too long before we AR Beer Pong being played on iPad Pros in dorm rooms.

One of the biggest pain points of iOS users has been notifications. Any moderately social media savvy user knows the struggles of managing notifications from different apps on an iOS device. With iOS 12, Apple has addressed this issue. One of the most talked-about features of iOS 12, before WWDC began, was notifications.

First up is Do Not Disturb mode for notifications. This means that during a user’s specified ‘Night Time’, the iPhone won’t display any notifications. The iPhone won’t light up for a notification meaning less disturbance and users will be able to deal with the notifications once they’re up.

Must Read: WWDC 2018: macOS Mojave With Dark Mode Unveiled

The second important feature is grouped notifications. Unlike any iOS versions so far, iOS 12 will group all the notifications from one app resulting in a much less cluttered lock screen and notification panel. With one swipe, users will get an option to either manage, open or dismiss all the notifications at once.

On paper, these are very important updates to iOS, especially for users with older devices. Many people were anticipating a Dark Mode to make its way to iOS but, they’ll have to make do with Smart Invert for the time being. Apple did, however, commit to the Dark Mode but, on macOS Mojave instead. Whether iOS 12 will be that performance upgrade everyone was hoping for, only time will tell as we expect the final version of iOS 12 to roll-out a few days after the 2018 iPhone lineup is launched.

Apple Ordered to Pay $626 Million in Patent Infringement Case

Apple, in a case that has been jumping around from one court to another since 2012, has been dealt a major blow. Apple has been ordered to pay VirnetX Holding corp a cool $626 million for violating patents related to FaceTime and iMessage amongst other technologies that the jury determined had been patented by VirnetX, and hence are its property.

    Apple Face Recognition AI

VirnetX, is commonly known as a patent troll across the industry because of its habit of targeting tech companies and making almost all of its revenue from patent licensing and lawsuits. It has sued a number of tech companies over the past decade and has famously settled disputes with Microsoft over patents used in Skype, and made $200 million from the Redmond-based company in another patent infringement related case in 2010.

This recent verdict is in continuation from a case where a jury had found Apple guilty of violating the same patents back in 2012.The company then was asked to pay an amount of $368 million to VirnetX.

Apple appealed and won on a technicality, but as it is with the judicial system, the appeals court vacated the damages and sent the case back down to a bench at a District Court for retrial, where the jury found Apple guilty and ordered it to pay even more money to VirnetX because it found it guilty of “willfully” violating the company’s patents.

Reacting to the decision a member of the legal team from Apple said that the company would appeal the decision. The company argued that the patents in question are not valid.

“We are surprised and disappointed by the verdict and we’re going to appeal. Our employees independently designed this technology over many years, and we received patents to protect this intellectual property. All four of VirnetX’s patents have been found invalid by the patent office. Cases like this simply reinforce the desperate need for patent reform,” he said.

  • Apple iPhone 6S to Sport 5MP FaceTime Camera, Reveals New Leaked Documents

Apple iPhone 6S to Sport 5MP FaceTime Camera, Reveals New Leaked Documents

Over the past few weeks, we have discovered many rumors about the next iPhone, currently known as iPhone 6S. Just a few days back, a set of leaked images about the phone’s metal casing hit the web, which gave an idea of how iPhone 6S will look like. Today, a new set of documents has been leaked from Foxconn, Apple’s manufacturing partner, revealing new details about the upcoming iPhone.

According to the leaks, the iPhone 6S will sport a 5 MP FaceTime camera, which is an upgrade from the 1.2 MP camera employed by the current version. If the leak is accurate, then we will be witnessing a surge in demand for high-res selfies. Moreover, the rear camera will be upgraded to 12 MP from 8 MP, with 4K video recording capability.  The phone will also be able to capture slow-motion videos at 1080p resolution, up from 720p in the current versions.

4K video-recording is currently offered in many high-end smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S6 and OnePlus One. However, what distinguishes Apple from its rivals is the software it employs in iPhone to convert the raw data into a finished product. That is why budget filmmakers use iPhone to make short films (and features) even when there are alternatives available in the market.

So far, we’ve learnt that the next iPhones will include Force Touch and a new casing to make the iPhone 6S wider, taller and stronger. The new model will run on iOS 9 and have an enhanced processor. Samsung might provide chipsets and displays for Apple’s forthcoming products, and iPhone 6S will be powered by a next-gen A9 processor and come with 2GB of RAM.

The upcoming iPhone 6s is rumored to be available in stores from 25th September this year. According to the source, pre-orders will start on 18th September, and it will go live physically on 25th September.
