Samsung To Replace Galaxy Alpha with the More Affordable Galaxy A5

Galaxy Alpha marked the start of whole new design policy for Samsung. Even though, there were couple of shortcomings, such as the battery life and its full flagship price; it did compete in the high-end smartphone segment with more complete devices.

Now, just 3 months after its launch, Samsung has decided discontinue the Galaxy Alpha and replace it with more affordable successor Galaxy A5.

The 5-inch A5, which launched in China last month, is a continuation of the Alpha’s design philosophy, emphasizing its sleekness and high-quality metal construction. However, the Galaxy A5’s decent specs allow it to be more affordable and give the company a chance to garner larger market which Galaxy Alpha failed to do.

Samsung galaxy A5 sports a 5-inch display with HD (1280×720 pixels) screen resolution. Under the hood, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor runs the phone, paired with 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card. On the camera front, the phone packs a 13-megapixel shooter at the rear and a 5-megapixel snapper upfront. It comes with a 2,300mAh battery to keep the device running. On the software front, the phone comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. The phone will be available in five colour variants.

Galaxy A5 launched in China for 400,000 won (approx. Rs. 24,000). There’s plenty of work ahead for the company  but if the company lives up to the promise made, 2015 will be a fundamentally different year to the repetitively iterative products the company has been serving up in recent times.

  • Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Alpha: Which Smartphone is Better?

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Alpha: Which Smartphone is Better?

Samsung today launched the Galaxy Alpha in India. The design of the Alpha incorporates a metal frame that encases the phone. This design feature was carried on to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The phone comes with almost the same features as the Galaxy S5. So we test the specs of both devices to check out which one would be the better device to buy.

    Specs Galaxy S5 Galaxy Alpha
Display 5.1 inch Full HD (432 ppi) 4.7 inch 720p HD (312 ppi)
    Processor Exynos 5 Octa 5422 (Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7) Exynos 5 Octa 5430 (1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A15 + 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7)
    RAM 2 GB 2 GB
    Storage 16/32 GB 32 GB
    Expandable up to 128 GB
Main Camera 16 MP 12 MP
Back Camera 2 MP 2.1 MP
    Battery 2800 mAh 1860 mAh
Operating System Android Kitkat 4.4.2 Android Kitkat v4.4.4
    Price Rs. 35,489 Rs. 39.990

So overall the only major difference between the Galaxy S5 and the Alpha is the LTE capabilities of the Alpha. The Galaxy S5 starts at Rs. 35,489 on Flipkart and comes cheaper than the Alpha. If you are looking for good value for your money, we suggest you get the S5 itself considering the severe shortage of 4G connectivity in India.

Also the S5 gives you upto 128 GB of expandable storage whereas the Alpha lacks the feature. So if you were looking for a premier device, the S5 is still a valid purchase. The Galaxy Alpha sure gets style points, but that’s never good enough.

  • Samsung Might Release Galaxy Alpha in India on 27th September

Samsung Might Release Galaxy Alpha in India on 27th September

With the Xiaomi fever slowly subsiding and people looking back at major manufacturers, Samsung seems ready to give the Indian market some serious consideration. The company is expected to launch the recently unveiled Galaxy Alpha in India on the 27th of September.

Samsung sent out an invite claiming they would be launching “Next Generation Stylephone.” It is assumed that the phone is Galaxy Alpha that Samsung released in the international markets in August. The phone is a metal-bodied device, a rarity in Samsung’s line-up of products.

The Galaxy Alpha is powered by an Exynos 5 Octa 5430 processor (1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A51 + 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7.) It has 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The device has a 4.7-inch 1280x 720 Super AMOLED display.

The main camera on the device is a 12 MP shooter while the front camera is a 2.1 MP selfie shooter. The Alpha gets its juice from an 1860 mAh battery. The phone runs Android Kitkat 4.4.4 out of the box.

The Alpha was the first to get the metal frame and was followed by the Note 4. The back cover on the devices are still plastic, but Samsung claims the metal frame provides enhanced safety to the phone. We’ll have to wait till the 27th to see what Samsung is really cooking.

  • Samsung Might Launch Two Metal-Clad Smartphones Along with Galaxy Alpha

Samsung Might Launch Two Metal-Clad Smartphones Along with Galaxy Alpha

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha turned a lot of heads when it was announced earlier this month. Thanks to the metal frame, it got a lot of attention. Unlike other Samsung products that have all-plastic bodies, the Galaxy Alpha is a welcomed intervention in Samsung’s design philosophy.

However, recent reports have revealed that Galaxy Alpha is not the only handset which is part of this intervention. According to a new report from SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is only one of the first smartphones in a new line of products from Samsung which may be called ‘A’ series.

Reportedly, Samsung will launch three phones that run Android 4.4 KitKat in this series and feature metal components in their cases. Bearing the model numbers of SM-A300, SM-A500, and SM-A700, the three handsets are said to launch in different price ranges.

In terms of specifications, not much has been leaked. The A300 is reported to offer a qHD (960×540) display while the others could pack HD displays. It’s not clear if these are 720p or 1080p screens. Other than this, the only detail shared by the blog is that the company will offer “better” front-facing cameras.

The Galaxy Alpha is said to be 6.7mm thick and weighs about 115 grams. The display on the phone is a 4.7 inch screen with a 1280X720 resolution. It has an unnamed Octa core processor (Quad 1.8GHz + Quad 1.3GHz), and it is most likely on an Exynos 5 based chipset. The RAM on the device is 2 GB and has internal storage of 32 GB. It has no expandable storage. The Alpha has a dismal 1860 mAh battery which might dissuade a lot of folks from getting the device. The three new “A” series phones will reportedly debut sometime during Q3 2014.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha: Samsung’s New Design Philosophy Unveiled

The Galaxy Alpha has been surprisingly prone to leaks, like none other in its range. The phone looks like what an arrange marriage between Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S5 might lead to. The phone as expected is made of a metal frame and boasts an Octa-core chipset.

Galaxy Alpha had been hot in leakster circuits ever since it was announced but with its official launch, the leakers now have one less device to worry about. Samsung seems to be learning the lessons that the market has been trying to teach it for quite a while. The company has tried a different design approach for this device. Though it resembles the design of the iPhone, it is still a welcome change from all that plastic Samsung has been throwing at the consumers for the last few years.

The phone had seen a lot many leaks before its official release.
The phone had seen a lot many leaks before its official release.

The phone is a lot thinner in comparison to its older siblings. The Alpha is 6.7mm thick and weighs about 115 grams. The display on the phone is a 4.7 inch screen with 1280X720 resolution. The styling does look premium on the device. It is anticipated that Samsung’s new design philosophy would also influence the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 which is expected to be made of new materials.

On the hardware front, the Samsung Galaxy has a few things that won’t impress the technologically minded. The device runs on the latest Android Kitkat 4.4.4 OS. It has an unnamed Octa core processor (Quad 1.8GHz + Quad 1.3GHz), and it is most probably an Exynos 5 based chipset. The RAM on the device is 2 GB and has internal storage of 32 GB. It has no expandable storage though. The Alpha has a dismal 1860 mAh battery which might dissuade a lot of folks from getting the device.

The main camera on the Alpha is a 12 megapixel shooter and is accompanied by a 2.1 MP front camera. It is capable of shooting 4K videos. It will retain the usual Samsung features such as Ultra-Power Saving Mode, S Health, Fingerprint Scanner, and Private Mode, amongst others.

The Galaxy Alpha will be available in September and will be available in black, white, gold, silver and blue colors.

  • New Samsung Galaxy Alpha Image Leaks its Full Specifications

New Samsung Galaxy Alpha Image Leaks its Full Specifications

Last week we saw some raw footage of the metal-clad phone which has been taking rounds on internet since January. Earlier, some pictures of black version of Samsung Galaxy Alpha were also released by Sammobile. The images confirm earlier reports that the Galaxy Alpha will sport a 4.7-inch screen and have a metallic construction.

The phone has been criticized of being another look-alike of Apple’s iPhone. Now, a new leak from TecMundo is giving us a glimpse inside this iFacade. The first leak originates from Brazil, where an anonymous reader sent the image below.

Since the picture quality makes it hard to read the specs, read them here:

    • 4.7 Super AMOLED Display
    • 12 mega-pixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front camera
    • 2GB of RAM, 32GB of Storage (64GB rumored to be available), No MicroSD
    • 1,860 mAh (marked with a big ole TBD)
    • Fingerprint sensor, heart rate monitor, nano SIM, USB 3.0, 4G LTE
    • Android 4.4

Earlier Leaked Image Of Samsung Galaxy Alpha

The specs listed on the billboard bring no surprises – the leak confirms the Galaxy Alpha’s screen size and resolution, 1,860 mAh battery, as well as the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor. It’s the second time we hear the Alpha would feature an approx 1850 mAh battery; the relatively small capacity is likely a downside of the phone’s very thin profile of just six millimeters. Well, only time will show if Samsung managed to optimize the Alpha well enough to ensure a decent battery life.

Images of the Upcoming Samsung Galaxy Alpha Leaked

The new Samsung Galaxy Alpha will soon be officially unveiled. The metal-clad phone has been taking rounds on internet and now photos of the white version of the Galaxy Alpha have leaked from the micro-blogging website Weibo.

The metallic side looks more polished on this model. According to various reports, the Galaxy Alpha might be segmented as a high-end device. It is expected to sport a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720p display (same as Galaxy S III), Exynos 5433 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, a fingerprint and heart rate sensor, 32 GB of non-expandable storage and Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

The Galaxy Alpha will be a step above the Galaxy S5 mini and will actually be sold as another watered-down variant of the Galaxy S5. There will also be an LTE-A variant, which is affirmed by an image leaked on a Vietnamese tech blog showing the device in the powered on state, and we’re guessing the LTE-A variant could be powered by Samsung’s recently announced Exynos ModAP processor, which brings support for 150 Mbps LTE-A speeds.

Unfortunately, there are no more details on other features and hardware, but more info should start popping up as we approach the rumored  launch of the Galaxy Alpha. As rumors have suggested, the Galaxy Alpha could see a limited release.

Earlier, some pictures of black version of Samsung Galaxy Alpha were also released by Sammobile. The images confirm earlier reports that the Galaxy Alpha will sport a 4.7-inch screen and a metallic construction, though Samsung has opted to use aluminium on the sides while keeping the faux leather back that we’ve seen on the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 3. This should help in offering both a solid grip and a premium feel.
