Apple: 74% of App Store Users Are Using iOS 7

Three months back, Apple launched its latest OS – iOS 7 in the market. Ever since then, users have treated the iOS 7 with mix reactions, as for some it is improved and for some it lags and freezes.

    chart

Despite of the mixed reactions from users, the iOS 7 is now on 74% of Apple devices registered in the App Store. Apple has mentioned this on its developer page. This is a 10% increase in iOS 7 users from the month of October. Coincidentally, Google also announced that in just a month of release, 1.1% of Android users are on KitKat OS.

However, alongside the iOS 7 other iOS versions are still in use. As per the report from Apple, 22% of users in the App Store are still on iOS 6 and 4% users are still on older versions of iOS. The rest 26% might want to know what is iOS 7 all about from the video below:

  • Apple Releases iOS 6.1.2 Update, Evad3rs Release Evasi0n 1.4 Jailbreak Tool

Apple Releases iOS 6.1.2 Update, Evad3rs Release Evasi0n 1.4 Jailbreak Tool

Apple today released iOS 6.1.2, the latest iteration of the mobile operating system for iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices, following widespread reports of errors caused by calendars connected to Exchange servers.

The affects of the bug also caused the battery life on the iPhone or iPad to suffer significantly.

Microsoft came up with a few ideas to prevent the overloading, such as switching off the calendar function altogether or simply banning all iOS 6.1 users from accessing the network.

Just a few hours after Apple released its latest iOS update yesterday, the Evad3rs team was out with Evasi0n version 1.4 designed to work with iOS 6.1.2 devices. An Evad3rs team member tweeted the news late yesterday.

Even the prior version of Evasi0n seemed unaffected by the iOS 6.1.2 update, at least according to preliminary testing. But Evasi0n version 1.4 makes it official.

Apple hasn’t spoken out about publicly about the Evasi0n jailbreak. But the company did update its jailbreak warning page a day before the tool was unleashed earlier this month.

The page cautions people about the side effects of the practice, such as instability, security vulnerabilities, shortened battery life, unreliable voice and data, disruption of services, and the inability to apply future software updates.

Unfortunately, Apple failed to address a security vulnerability enabling hackers to bypass an iPhone’s lockscreen and access core device functions.

Rejoice! iOS 6 Jailbreak Confirmed, May Come Out On Sunday!

    jailbreak

After many tantalizing hints, the team behind the upcoming evad3rs jailbreak has confirmed it will come as early as Sunday. The crew, noted jailbreak developers @pod2g, @planetbeing and @musclenerd, are working hard on the front-end code for the jailbreak, but the team members have individually assured the world that it is untethered and compatible with iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and the newly-released 6.1.

According to the team, the new jailbreak will support every iOS device on the market except for the Apple TV 3rd gen, including the iPhone 5 and iPad 4. While jailbreak has since lost some of its steam due to the addition of many consumer-facing features in iOS 6, many users still clamor for the enhanced experience of BiteSMS and Infinidock, among others.
”We (+ @MuscleNerd @planetbeing @pimskeks) are the @evad3rs. We don’t take any donations ATM, please don’t be fooled at donating to others,” tweeted Pod2g.
For those unaware, the iOS jailbreak eliminates the limitations forced by Apple on devices running the company’s latest operating system through the use of software tweaks on devices that include iPhones, iPads, and more. A tethered system means the procedure must be repeated every time the smartphone reboots.

The information about evad3rs possession of the jailbreak was revealed by pod2g to iDigitalTimes.
The hacker talked about the success of the team of developers saying:  “6.0 is jailbroken, 6.1 beta 4 also. Now we are waiting 6.1 to confirm and release. For your information and this is important to me that everybody knows about it also, this jailbreak will be @planetbeing and @pimskeks.”
Pod2g also added that he was only a small part of the jailbreak’s discovery as the majority of the work was done by @planetbeing and @pimskeks.

While the team allegedly has the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, they are holding on to it until Apple releases iOS 6.1.

  • Untethered Jailbreak For New iOS 6 Devices To Be Released By Dream JB On Dec. 22

Untethered Jailbreak For New iOS 6 Devices To Be Released By Dream JB On Dec. 22

    jailbreak

There is some happy news for those who keenly look forward for iOS 6 untethered jailbreaks for iPhone 5. A mysterious and unknown hacker calling himself “Dream JB” is promising to release an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPad mini, latest iPad and iPhone 5 on December 22. Dream JB is not associated with any known dev team, and the group has posted a message on its website claiming video proof of the one-click solution will arrive tomorrow via an unedited YouTube video.

If true, the new untethered jailbreak will support all current Apple devices running iOS 6.0.1. This includes the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and beyond, iPad Mini, iPod Touch 4th generation and beyond.

A jailbreak for iOS 6 has been available for a long time, but it’s a tethered solution that means once you’ve used it, your iOS device has to be plugged into your Mac or PC every time you need to boot it up. Restart your iPhone on the train home from work, then, and it’ll be pretty much useless until you get home.

What’s more, that jailbreak isn’t compatible with Apple’s latest iOS devices, which means if you have an iPhone 5 or a fourth-generation iPad, you’re stuck using the firmware the way Apple intended it to be used.

Most jailbreakers only use jailbreaking tools from proven sources such as the iPhone DevTeam, or Absinthe creator pod2g. And not surprisingly, a large portion of the jailbreaking community is calling Dream JB’s untethered jailbreak a scam.

Let’s see if they’ve really managed to pull off the seemingly impossible, it doesn’t matter to the iPhone 5 owners where the jabilbreak comes from, as long as there is one. Only time will tell if Dream JB has really done it.

Of course, everyone knows that the world ends on December 21st… so there’s speculation this is all a joke. We’ll find out soon enough.

Apple Maps Can Be “Life Threatening” : Australian Police

    maps

Australian police Monday, December 10, warned motorists about using the map system on new Apple iPhones after rescuing several people left stranded in the wilderness, saying the errors could prove deadly.

The warning comes after after a number of people trying to find the town (Mildura) of 30,000 people have become hopelessly lost in scorching temperatures.

One man was stranded for 24 hours last week in temperatures of up to 46 degrees centigrade, and at least three more have had to be rescued after following the directions given on Apple’s new maps, which locate Mildura far from its actual position.

Authorities said tests on the mapping system had confirmed that it lists Mildura, around 500 kilometers (310 miles) northwest of Melbourne, as being in the heart of the Murray Sunset National Park.
“It’s quite a dangerous situation, so we would be calling for people not to use the new Apple iPhone mapping system if they’re traveling from South Australia to Mildura.
Apple dropped Google as its map provider in September with the launch of its iOS 6 software for the iPhone and iPad. But problems quickly emerged with the map detail. Apple received criticism over inaccuracies in mapping data like the mislocation in Victoria, which led to the termination of several people involved with the Maps project, including Senior Vice President of iOS Software Scott Forstall and Maps manager Richard Williamson.

  • Google Maps For iOS Nearing Release : WSJ

Google Maps For iOS Nearing Release : WSJ

    maps

Google Maps for iOS is almost ready for release to Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The WSJ report uses information from someone knowledgeable about Google Maps software development. The source reveals that Google handed out a test version of a new Google Maps for iOS app to put final changes before submitting it to the Apple App Store.

While it’s expected that Google’s iOS Maps will include walking and transit directions, the WSJ’s source claims that Google will also bundle its turn-by-turn navigation feature, available free on all Android devices, in the app. This would bring the functionality to par with Apple Maps, which is why some pundits still think Apple will not approve the app when it is submitted.

Google Maps for iOS could see the company derive a huge amount of revenue from sponsored business listings and other product tie-ins. But while it’s possible to change default apps in Android, Apple Maps will continue to be the default service used within third-party apps.

Google apps such as YouTube, Google+ and Search are available on iOS, and are very popular despite not being integrated directly into the operating system. Apple would not comment on the matter, but it would seem likely that they view Google’s services as a thorn in its proverbial side.

Rumor : Apple to Launch iPhone 5 in India with Two Year Warranty

Looks like more Apple iPhone 5 news just flew in. Apple is planning on launching the iPhone 5 in India with two year warranty considering the price factor. iGyaan had earlier reported that Apple is planning on special pricing of Apple care for iPhones in India. According to sources, the iPhone 5 will be priced slightly higher than previously mentioned.  Rs. 46999 price bracket for 16 GB, but will  come with 2 year warranty instead of 1 year. While we tried to approach Apple with this rumor, it appears no one is available on Saturday.

We will get you more information as we get it….

The iPhone 5 is a touchscreen-based smartphone developed by Apple and released on September 21, 2012. It is the sixth iteration in the iPhone series succeeding the iPhone 4S. The phone is a slimmer, lighter model that introduces a higher-resolution, 4-inch screen to the series and is the first to support a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Other new features include a custom-designed ARMv7 processor called the Apple A6, an update to Apple’s mobile operating system known as iOS 6, and support for LTE. (Info via Wiki)

The new anodized Aluminum design is certainly eye-catching. Gizmodo reader Martin Hajek has produced some high-quality renders of the device that show off what its black anodized aluminum casing will look like. The pictures sent to Gizmodo not only show off the tablet’s casing but also showcase the device’s rumored 7.85-inch display that features thinner side bezels when compared to the iPad.

  • 60% Of iPhone Users Running iOS 6

60% Of iPhone Users Running iOS 6

A new study says most iPhone users have updated to iOS 6, Apple’s latest operating system, despite a number of flaws that have plagued its launch.

After only two weeks on the market, iOS 6 is running on over 60% of iPhones, 15% more than on iPads.  Chitika, an ad network and analytics firm, put together the study.

Apple is known for having fast adoption rates for its operating systems, but it wouldn’t have been surprising if iOS 6 bucked that trend after suffering from a plethora of problems that have embarrassed the Cupertino tech company since its launched.

iPhone users are adopting iOS 6 faster than iPad or iPod Touch users, likely because most iPhones support the upgrade, whereas the iPad 1 and iPod Touches before the 4th generation won’t be updated past iOS 4 or iOS 5.

In particular, the iPad 1, due to its limited 256MB of RAM, was not able to update past iOS 5.1, leaving many owners angry that their first-generation product is now obsolete. While most apps will still run fine for another generation or so on iOS 5, many developers will begin enforcing iOS 6 in the coming months.

iOS 6 to hit iPhones in a couple of hours – Jailbreaker/s and Unlocker/s should stay Wary!

iOS 6 is going to hit your iPhones at about 10:30 PM IST (GMT +5:30) today. If you have a phone that relies on software unlocks to work, of if you are someone who simply enjoys the freedom Jailbreak offers, then you might wanna hold on to your horses. iOS 6 brings about lots of new changes to existing iPhone users, and extra ones to iPhone 4s users (like flyover and Panorama) while the new iPad owners get Siri!

If you are ready to make the shift, then keep your bandwidth ready, because considering the amount of iOS devices out there (despite Apple’s massive CDN) this might be a slow download.

Apple claims it to be the thinnest and lightest iPhone yet. Here is a run down of all the new features.

A new dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n antenna should help improve wireless connectivity.

NFC is still missing, which had been rumored to make its Apple debut with the iPhone 5, but is nowhere in sight.
The iPhone 5 does add EV-DO rev. B to the mix and keeps both GLONASS and GPS for navigating your way around the globe.

The new iPhone 5 will go up for preorder on the 12th of September 2012 with deliveries starting 21st of September 2012. the unlocked price has not been given out in the US, but will go for British Pound £529 for the basic 16 Gb version, seems too pricey to us!

Apple Announces Q3 results : $35 billion revenue, $8.8 billion in net profits

Apple has announced their Q3 results and as always the company has posted a massive profit. The company pulled in $35 billion in revenue, pocketing $8.8 billion of pure profit, a record for both in Q3. Profits were up $1.5 billion from Q3 of 2011. During the last three months the company shipped 17 million iPads, an 84 percent increase when compared to the same quarter in 2011.

More than $16 billion of the total revenue is directly attributable to the smaller member of the iOS family, the iPhone. The iPad is also not behind getting over $9 billion in this quarter alone. As an up, Apple is able to award its investors a $2.65 per-share dividend. For the next quarter Apple actually expects a small drop in both revenue and earnings per-share.

Tim Cook also discussed how China has instrumental in Apple’s continued growth. While revenues were down $2.2 billion from the previous quarter in the country they were up roughly 48 percent year-over-year to $5.7 billion.
