  • Samsung Galaxy S6 : Here is Everything We Know So Far

Samsung Galaxy S6 : Here is Everything We Know So Far

We barely have a day before Samsung officially unveils its flagship smartphone to the world in Barcelona. A lot is at stake here for the Korean manufacturer. The device is supposed to redefine Samsung’s approach to design and features. The Korean electronics giant has really come to struggle in the market in the past couple of years and it is imperative the company comes out with an exceptional device.

The rumors of the upcoming S6 have been encouraging with a continuous onslaught of  leaks and teasers, and we’ve gathered it all here in one place.

What can we expect from the new Galaxy S6, here’s a compilation of our calculated prediction as to what can we expect from the next big thing from Samsung.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMaeJ6hOtCY

    What it Looks like

Rumor mill suggests the upcoming Galaxy S6 will get a Super AMOLED Quad HD display anywhere between 5-5.5 inches with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The Galaxy S5 sports a 5.1 inch display, and as we’ve seen in the past, large screen sizes are reserved for the Galaxy Note phablet range. Hence we can expect a smaller screen size, something in line with the Galaxy S5.

What about curves, will the Galaxy Edge get a curved edge? Well, going by the most recent leak from T-Mobile, it’s a YES. The picture titled “SIX APPEAL” clearly shows a Note Edge like device. Samsung had hinted before that the S6 will have a curved screen, and the image gives a clear view of the curved display. Some even suggest that Samsung will be extending it to both sides of the device.

    GAlaxy S6

The Galaxy Note Edge made quite a stir with its unusual and distinct design, so its a reason good enough for Samsung to bank upon this idea.

    NEW DESIGN AND BODY

Plastic or metal, this could be anyone’s guess. Samsung has been flaunting new metal bodied phones, such as the all-metal Samsung Galaxy A5, Galaxy A3 along with the Galaxy A7.

The latest teaser by T-Mobile clearly shows grey metal body visible around the display, hence we can expect the Korean manufacturer to bolster its image with a premium metal clad smartphone.

    CAMERA

We saw some awesome camera performance with the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4, both of which came with 16 megapixel cameras, though the Galaxy S5 lacked OIS; a significant feature appreciated in the iPhone 6 Plus. So it’s a reason good enough that Samsung would bring this feature in their latest flagships’s camera.

    Galaxy S5 Gold
Galaxy S5’s 16-megapixel camera is one of the best smartphone cameras around.

As we’ve seen in the past, Samsung usually increases the megapixel count with their new models. Samsung’s senior VP in a blog post recently stressed upon the fact how they have been constantly working on improving the cameras used in the Galaxy Series. In addition, Jang also stressed on the importance of the selfie cam, and duly noted that it forms an essential part of the whole ecosystem.

A recent report suggested a 20 MP camera sensor along with OIS and a 5 MP front facing shooter on the Galaxy S6 prototype. Both cameras are likely to include sensors from Samsung.

    PROCESSOR, MEMORY AND STORAGE

Rumours suggest Samsung may be opting for its in-house Exynos 7420 for the first batch, and probably even make different variants of the phone. The Exynos 7420 is a 64-bit chip with four Cortex-A53 and four Cortex-A57 cores.

The Korean manufacturer plans to ditch Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips with the Galaxy S6 as it reportedly faces overheating issues. As we’ve seen with its earlier flagships, Samsung will make different variants of the Galaxy S6 with different chipsets for different markets.

On the memory front, the phone is rumoured to come in 32, 64 and 128 GB variants. Samsung is likely to equip the Galaxy S6 with 3GB of RAM, along with a microSD slot that is expandable upto 128 GB.

    OS and TouchWiz

TouchWiz sitting atop Android 5.0 Lollipop should be the standard norm of the day. A recent report says Samsung will chuck many of its own programs in its forthcoming TouchWiz user interface. Instead Samsung will bundle Microsoft apps including OneNote, OneDrive, Office Mobile, and Skype.

Samsung’s TouchWiz is getting final touches before its anticipated announcement in Barcelona. And Samsung is apparently being sensible as it’s doing away with its own bloatware which included apps like S Health and S Note.

It’s likely be a toned down version of TouchWiz on the new device, in an attempt to improve the overall performance and responsiveness of the device.

    FEATURES

The Galaxy S6 will reportedly get a host of new features. It may feature dual front speakers like the HTC Boomsound. Meanwhile, Samsung itself has dropped a lot of hints about its next-gen flagship. For instance, we can expect the Galaxy S6 to get wireless charging and fast charging capabilities. Rumour also has it that it’ll get a fingerprint sensor.

While, recent reports also suggest that the Galaxy S6 will have support for Gear VR, currently compatible only with the Galaxy Note 4.

    MULTIPLE VARIANTS

The Korean giant is expected to launch the Samsung Galaxy S6 flagship along with the anticipated curved-display variant, rumoured to be called Galaxy S6 Edge at the Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event.

    s6

Hence we can expect multiple variants of its new flagship, with and without curved displays. Which makes sense as the Galaxy S6 might be akin to a more traditional flagship, while curved could be the model that brings a different flavour to the flagship.

    Launch, availability and Price

Samsung has already sent out teasers and invitations for its forthcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on 1st March in Barcelona at MWC. Samsung’s earlier flagship model, the Galaxy S5 was unveiled at MWC 2014. The phone went on sale just a few weeks later, hence we can expect the Korean manufacturer to do the same with its upcoming flagship – the Galaxy S6.

Tentative release date for the Galaxy S6 is rumored to be somewhere between March 22 too April 19. A recent report claims that similar to last year, Samsung will release its flagship champion(s) in the Indian market in early-to-mid April. Indian customers can place pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 starting mid-March.

As far as pricing goes, Samsung tends to stick to the same pricing for its Galaxy Range. Initially, it is expected to be priced exorbitantly, easily above Rs. 60,000, which will likely come down to Rs. 50,000 within months (knowing Samsung). In short, it’s going to cost a lot of money, and we hope it’s worth it for prospective buyers.

  • New HTC One M9 Images Suggest a Thicker Outer Body With Minor Design Tweaks

New HTC One M9 Images Suggest a Thicker Outer Body With Minor Design Tweaks

With nearly a week left before HTC officially reveals its flagship smartphone in Barcelona, it seems that the device is already out in the open. MobileGeeks has spotted a German listing for a smartphone that looks strikingly similar to the One M9 images that were spotted last month.

If the leaked images are authentic, we may see just one camera on the rear compared to its predecessor. Images also suggest that HTC has moved some buttons around, we may see the power button right below the volume rockers on the right, unlike the M8 where it was located on top, making it quite a task to reach at times given the size of the M8.

In addition, the BlinkFeed news stream looks slightly different suggesting the possibility of a new software. Even the phone’s outer body appears notably thicker than the One M8.

Though nothing is officially confirmed, we may be in for a few surprises in a week’s time. In the meantime, here’s what we can expect under the hood from HTC’s next flagship:

    • 5-inch Display running at 1080p
    • 20.7 Megapixel rear camera, 4.0 megapixel front camera with HTC’s “Ultrapixel” tech
    • Android Lollipop 5.0 (with HTC Sense running on top)
    • 2,840mAh battery
    • 3GB of RAM
    • 2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU (though some rumors point at 2.8Ghz)
  • New Tech We Expect to See at the Mobile World Congress 2015

New Tech We Expect to See at the Mobile World Congress 2015

The Mobile World Congress or the MWC is one of the biggest extravaganzas for the mobile world. It brings together mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners from across the world to discuss the future of mobile telephony. This year the conference will be held from 2-5 March in the Spanish city of Barcelona and iGyaan will be reporting right from the ground.

There is a lot of action you can expect from this year’s edition of the MWC. Here it is:

    Major Launches

    Samsung-Galaxy-S6

Being the biggest mobile exhibition ground, the MWC attracts some of the biggest releases for the first half of the year. The biggest launches expected from the MWC is the Samsung’s premier Galaxy S6. The Korean electronics giant has promised a reinvention of their device family with this launch, so the expectations are huge with this one.

HTC is also set to unveil its new flagship, the One (M9) at the event that will be a successor to the popular One (M8). This time around it is expected to get a 1440X2560 QHD screen, 3GB of RAM and an Octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU.

    Second-Gen Wearables

    samsung-gear-s-smartwatch

The tech industry bet big on wearables last year, and the biggest brands unveiled their offerings throughout the year. The consumers have seen what these devices have to offer and now it’s time for the second-generation wearables to come forward. The devices have shown promise but at the moment they can be best described as glorified remotes for the smartphone. There have been new features added to these devices like the ability to unlock your car and control connected devices in your home. What the consumers are really demanding from them is a longer battery life, something that doesn’t require charging every single day.

    Connected Devices

    connected devices

One major trend in electronics market is the focus on interconnected devices. From the announcements at CES 2015 we got an inkling that the companies are proactively pursuing this arena. The smartphone will be at the center of this movement. You can expect to hear about apps and devices that deal with automotive, wearables, and even health.

    Keynote Speakers

    GTY_mark_zuckerberg_facebook_sk_131031_16x9_992

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and FCC chairman Tom Wheeler will be the top Keynote addresses at the conference. Other major speakers include Brian Krzanich; the CEO of Intel, Sanjay Kapoor; Chairman of Micromax Informatics, Steve Mollenkopf; CEO of Qualcomm. There would also be talks given by heads of other prominent tech companies like Vodafone, Wikipedia, Mozilla, Ericsson and more.

If you love tech and smartphones, you should be getting charged up right about now. In just three weeks, some of the long awaited next generation products will show up, and iGyaan will be right on the ground, so you don’t miss them. Keep checking this spot for all the upcoming excitement.

LG Teaser Talks About ‘Unlimited Possibilities’ At MWC

     lg

LG is forging ahead and doubling down on the teasing today. Earlier this morning the wireless manufacturer posted an image of a present on their Facebook wall that proudly stated a “new series will be unveiled.” They also declared this mystery unveiling would have some sort of “unexpected distinction” to it. Now a video has been uploaded to YouTube with a similar feel, but gives a bit more insight.

“Are you ready for the next breakthrough from LG? Join us and see LG Mobile’s unlimited possibilities at the MWC 2013,” the company notes.

The official Mobile World Congress “2013 Trailer Video” suggests we’ll see “unlimited possibilities” and asks is you’re “ready for the next breakthrough from LG?” This is followed by a series of buzz words such as premium, stylish, speedy, powerful, innovative, fast-paced, edgy that look to be a constellation – perhaps a “galaxy.”

While no specific info on what might be unveiled there has been provided as of now, rumor has it that the company might announce new F-Series smartphones at the event.

Additionally, there’s also the possibility that LG will unveil new handsets in the L-Series lineup, or a successor for its flagship Optimus G smartphone.

Take a look at the video and then you can decide for yourself what kind of phone or phones LG plans on pulling down from the heavens in Barcelona.

For connectivity you have BT 3.0?HS, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, camera is a 5MP AF ? 1.3MP and Flash at back. Of course Samsung has customized the UI with their very own TouchWiz. The full specs are in the PR below.

Share the Fun with Samsung GALAXY Beam

    February 26, 2012

Samsung’s projector smartphone offers unforgettable shared experience for playing multimedia content anytime, anywhere

Barcelona – February 26, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today introduced Samsung GALAXY Beam, the projector smartphone that allows users to display and share multimedia content anywhere on a large luminous projector screen.

GALAXY Beam lets users spontaneously share photos, videos or other digital media with family or friends by beaming content stored on the device directly onto walls, ceilings or improvised flat surfaces, so that everyone can share the fun without the need to huddle around smartphone or pad-sized screens. GALAXY Beam’s ultra-bright 15 lumens projector allows users to freely share life’s memorable moments instantly and in crisp clarity, even in outdoor environments.

“GALAXY Beam provides mobile freedom, enabling a unique shared experience around digital content for everyone-anywhere and instantly-from a smartphone as slim and portable as any on the market,” said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

GALAXY Beam is a device borne out of Samsung’s insight and innovation, demonstrating Samsung’s commitment to providing extraordinary experiences for consumers with products that let them express and fulfill themselves.”

Video clips, maps, business information, games – a whole range of multimedia content can be beamed instantly by GALAXY Beam on a crisp, high-definition projection up to 50” wide. The device features a projector-dedicated application which makes it easy to select content and activate projection in a few simple steps.

Add a dose of ambience or entertainment to a friends’ gathering by transforming any household room or outdoor deck into an instant mini home-theater, projecting full-screen video clips on a ceiling or wall for common sharing, at the touch of a button. Or capture your favorite holiday moments using the GALAXY Beam’s 5MP camera, then display a full photo slideshow to family members on a dining room wall while playing accompanying music straight from the device, so that everyone shares the experience.

For young users who depend on constant, immediate socializing of digital content and entertainment, GALAXY Beam introduces a new way of sharing. It becomes much more than a phone-a handy digital tool, deployable anywhere, which can add visual entertainment to a simple street gathering, set the mood for a small party, or simply turn life’s moments into something personally and immediately sharable. With GALAXY Beam, a birthday or anniversary party can be enlivened in seconds by sharing YouTube or Hulu music videos straight onto a ceiling or door. Likewise, students can collectively share videos or study-work in any dormitory room or student lounge, turning group study into a whole new interactive experience right from a desk table or from the palm of their hands. GALAXY Beam is also ideal for action-packed interactive gaming: Users can upload their own games or choose from over 1,000 games available via Game Hub, Samsung’s dedicated virtual gaming store, then project games to co-players or observers to turn gaming into an unbeatably interactive, shared experience. Additionally, GALAXY Beam is convenient tool for mid-sized business workers. An estate agent can beam images of candidate properties to customers as they tour them; or an architect can display draft concepts or designs to co-workers on the spot at a building site or public location.

Despite featuring a full built-in projector, the GALAXY Beam does not compromise on style or portability, measuring just 12.5mm thick and featuring an elegant, ergonomic design. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is powered by an impressive 1.0GHz dual-core processor, ensuring great versatility and a highly responsive user interface. An impressive 8GB of internal memory allows ample multimedia storage without compromises, and a powerful 2000 mAh battery ensures greater display power and content freedom.

The GALAXY Beam is exhibited at Samsung stand (Hall 8), Mobile World Congress 2012. For multimedia content and more detailed information, please visitwww.samsungmobilepress.com.
