Moto Z3 Play Running On Snapdragon 636 Officially Launched

After weeks of leaks, Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched the next iteration of Motorola’s budget modular series, the Moto Z3 Play in Brazil. The smartphone will retail for US$ 499 (Rs 33000 approx.) and come bundled with the Battery Mod. There are no details about the smartphone’s availability in India as of now.

All smartphones in the Moto Z series are compatible with the Moto Mods and so is the Moto Z3 Play. This, despite the smartphone having a 6 inch display. The company retained the dimensions of the previous Moto Z devices and managed to fit in a sizeably larger display. The Moto Z3 Play is the first smartphone in the lineup to have an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Moto Z3 Play has a 6 inch Super AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. Just like the G and E series, Motorola has stayed away from the notch trend, which many people would appreciate. The device has an 18:9 aspect ratio, which has become the norm these days.

Under the hood, the smartphone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. The new budget chipset has been well-received in devices like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Zenfone Max Pro. The smartphone will be available in two variants, one with 32GB storage and the other with 64GB storage which will be expandable via a microSD card. Both the variants will have 4GB of RAM which should be enough for almost everybody.

The fingerprint sensor is no longer on the front of the device thanks to thinner bezels. The sensor has now been moved to the right-hand side of the device, similar to Xperia smartphones from back in the day. powering the smartphone is a 3000 man battery which will charge via a USB-C port. Out of the box the Z3 Play will run Android 8 Oreo out of the box with very little customisations done by Motorola.

The smartphone has a dual-camera setup on the back. It has a 12MP primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture which is paired with a 5MP sensor which will collect all the depth information. To the front is an 8MP with an f/2.0 aperture.

The Moto Z3 Play appears like a sizeable upgrade over its predecessor with the new design and the Snapdragon 636 SoC. The pricing in India will be crucial for Motorola and the Z3 Play. More details to follow.

  • Moto Z3 Play Renders Reveal A Glass Back And 18:9 Aspect Ratio

Moto Z3 Play Renders Reveal A Glass Back And 18:9 Aspect Ratio

The Moto Z lineup will see the third generation of smartphones launching in 2018. The first one to launch is the Moto Z3 Play, the more affordable series of smartphones in the Moto Z lineup. It is confirmed that the Moto Z3 Play will launch on June 6th at an event in Brazil. So far, we have seen a lot of leaks of the soon to be launched device and now, high resolution renders of the Z3 Play have been leaked, giving us all the details about the design of the device.

The leaked renders reveal that the Moto Z3 Play will have a glass back which is an interesting move by Motorola. The G6 lineup also has an all-glass design so it does make sense for the company to incorporate that in the Z lineup as well. The front has a display curved from the edges which gives it a nice look. The device will carry an 18:9 aspect ratio and we guess that it’ll have a 6 inch IPS LCD display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution.

The fingerprint sensor, that used to reside on the chin of the previous gen Moto Z smartphones has now been moved to the right-hand side of the device. Motorola could not place it at the back of the smartphone since it will be compatible with Moto Mods. It’ll be interesting to see how this fingerprint sensor performs. From the renders, it looks like the sensor has a larger surface area than a power button. The power button in this case appears to be moved to the left-hand side.

There are chances that the fingerprint sensor will be housed inside the power button. Which means that the button on the left could have a different functionality. Maybe Motorola will go the LG route and it could be a Google Assistant button. More details about this button and the smartphone will be revealed as we move closer to the event.

  • Moto Z3 Play To Launch On June 6th

Moto Z3 Play To Launch On June 6th

Lenovo-owned Motorola launched its first modular smartphone, the Moto Z in June 2016. The first gen Moto Z Play, a more affordable modular smartphone was launched in August 2016. The company’s upcoming Moto Z3 Play has been subject to a lot of leaks over the past few weeks and it appears that the device is ready for a launch. Motorola has started sending out press invites for a June 6th launch event in Brazil.

While the teaser doesn’t give away any details about the device, it isn’t rocket science to predict what smartphone will launch. The company has already launched its Moto E5 and G6 series of smartphones. So far in 2018, the company has not launched an iteration of its highly popular Moto Z series. The Moto Z3 Play is the first in line to launch, with a flagship Moto Z device expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The detailed specifications of the Moto Z3 Play were recently leaked, leaving very little to the consumer’s imagination. The Z3 Play will have a 6 inch AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass on top.

Under the hood, the device will run on the Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage. The storage will be expandable via a microSD card, most probably up to 256GB. The fingerprint sensor will move to the right-hand side of the smartphone since the bezels will be too thin for a front-facing fingerprint sensor. This placement will be similar to devices like the Nextbit Robin or older Sony smartphones.

Powering the Z3 Play will be a 3000 mAh battery which might not be sufficient for a 6 inch AMOLED panel with FullHD+ resolution. However, the smartphone will come bundled with a Moto Mod that will further extend the battery life. Out of the box, the Moto Z3 Play will run a stock-ish version of Android 8.1 Oreo.

The Moto Z3 Play will have a dual-camera setup on the back consisting of a 12MP primary sensor. The details about the secondary sensor are unknown as of now. To the front will be an 8MP camera.

The event in Brazil could also see the launch of new Moto Mods. These Moto Mods will be compatible with every Moto Z device launched so far since all of these devices have the same dimensions.

Moto Z3 Play Renders Reveal Side-Mounted Fingerprint Sensor

Lenovo-owned Motorola will soon launch a new iteration of its modular smartphones. The Moto Z3 Play is expected to launch in June followed by another Moto Z device later in the year. As has been the case with the Z Play series, the Z3 Play will also be a mid-range smartphone priced at under Rs 30,000 in India. A few leaked images of the device had surfaced online, but, Evan Blass has posted the renders of the smartphone.

According to the renders, the Moto Z3 Play will have a dual-camera setup on the back. For the first time in the Z series, the 18:9 aspect ratio will be introduced. For the Moto Z3 Play to be compatible with current Moto Mods, the footprint of the smartphone will remain the same as previous generations but thanks to thinner bezels, the display will be bigger. Like with the Moto G6 series, the chin will house the “Motorola” branding.

Motorola has decided to move the fingerprint sensor on the side of the device since the bezels are much thinner. The power button is on the left and the fingerprint sensor is on the right-hand side just below the volume rockers. It is worth noting here that the chin could have housed the fingerprint sensor instead of the Motorola branding like the Moto G6.

The Moto Z3 Play will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box which should not be a surprise. The Moto G6 and E5 lineup that was recently launched, also run the latest version of Android out of the box. Interestingly, the smartphone will have the May 1 security patch as well. The device will have a 6-inch display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. The Moto Z3 Play is expected to run on the Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with either 4GB RAM/32GB storage or 6GBRAM/64GB storage.

So far, there are no details about the pricing of the device. Along with the Z3 Play, we expect Motorola to also unveil a few Moto Mods to go with the new smartphone.

  • Moto Z3 Play With 18:9 Aspect Ratio Leaked In Live Images

Moto Z3 Play With 18:9 Aspect Ratio Leaked In Live Images

The Moto Z lineup of smartphones is known for its modularity. The first generation Moto Z was launched in June 2016 and since then, we have seen a few iterations of the modular smartphone. The Moto Z2 Force was recently launched in India and the 3rd generation of Moto Z devices are expected to be launched in 2018. The Moto Z3 Play has now been leaked in live images revealing the possible design and specifications of the upcoming device.

According to the leaked images, the Moto Z3 Play will continue the design language followed by the Moto G6 lineup. The smartphone will have an 18:9 aspect ratio with thin bezels all-around. There are a small forehead and chin on the device but, no notch. This should be a good news for notch-haters looking to buy a Moto Z smartphone.

The images also reveal that the Moto Z3 Play will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box which should not be a surprise. The Moto G6 and E5 lineup that was recently launched, also run the latest version of Android out of the box. Interestingly, the smartphone will have the May 1 security patch as well.

The dual-camera setup sits on the back and considering the device will be compatible with current Moto Mods, it will have the same dimensions as previous Moto Z devices. Only the thickness of the device will be different. The fingerprint sensor, according to a few leaks, will be housed inside the power button.

Thanks to the 18:9 aspect ratio and thinner bezels, the device will have a 6-inch display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. The Moto Z3 Play is expected to run on the Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with either 4GB RAM/32GB storage or 6GBRAM/64GB storage.

So far, there are no details about the launch or pricing of the device. However, some sources claim that Motorola is planning to launch the Moto Z3 Play in June. Along with the Z3 Play, we expect Motorola to also unveil a few Moto Mods to go with the new smartphone.

  • Motorola Will Now Rent Out Moto Mods

Motorola Will Now Rent Out Moto Mods

Motorola announced its partnership with RentMojo to offer customers the facility to rent out Moto Mods for Rs. 399 a week. The rental service will be available from December 23 across top 8 cities, including the metros.

Along with this announcements, the smartphone maker also announced three new mods, JBL SoundBoost 2 speaker Mod, Moto TurboPower Pack battery Mod and the GamePad Mod which will go on sale from the 17th of December via Flipkart and all Moto Hub stores across the country.

Motorola Mobility India Managing Director Sudhin Mathur said:

This is an India-first initiative. We want people to experience the magic of mods before (they) go ahead and buy it. So, whether it is extra battery life or great sound that they are looking for, we will have a mod for that.

RentMojo is an online portal wherein you cant rent anything from furniture to a bike.

Motorola Mods are compatible with Moto Z phones and essentially add a functionality to the phone which you would not have experienced with any other phone. The Moto Z lineup’s USP is their modularity.

Motorola also launched a polaroid camera mod for the Moto Z devices. Just like any other mod, it clips on to the back of your phone and connects to the Moto Z’s camera to turn the phone into a tiny Polaroid camera. The mod even has a dedicated shutter button to make clicking photos relatively easier. You can also use the mod to print out photos you’ve already taken, and other pictures you have stored on your phone. You can even add text to photos before printing them.

With Moto Mods costing almost as much as an Android phone, the idea of renting out Moto Mods makes sense for consumers to try out a mod before deciding whether they want to spend so much of money on an accessory or not.

  • This New Moto Mod Will Turn Your Phone Into A Polaroid Camera

This New Moto Mod Will Turn Your Phone Into A Polaroid Camera

Motorola’s Moto Z series has been an ideal implementation of modular phones. Polaroid and Motorola have teamed up on a new Moto Mod for the company’s Z series of phones. The Polaroid Insta-Share Printer is an instant camera accessory that turns the Moto Z into a tiny photo printer.

Moto Z2 Play and Moto Mods

Just like any other mod, it clips on to the back of your phone and connects to the Moto Z’s camera to turn the phone into a tiny Polaroid camera. The mod even has a dedicated shutter button to make clicking photos relatively easier. You can also use the mod to print out photos you’ve already taken, and other pictures you have stored on your phone. You can even add text to photos before printing them.

Priced at US $199, this mod doesn’t come cheap for sure. There are cheaper polaroid cameras and even Polaroid’s own OneStep 2 camera will cost less than this accessory for your Moto Z phone. However, the accessory dos give you the luxury of editing and customising photos before your print them.

If you own a Moto Z phone, then buying an accessory over a new camera would make sense as it is one less thing to carry instead of a whole polaroid camera.

  • Motorola Canada: The Next Bold Motorola Phone to Launch On 1st June

Motorola Canada has tweeted that the company will be launching their next “bold phone” on the 1st of June. While it isn’t clear whether the phone will be launched in just Canada or other parts of the world, the tweet shows a colorful GIF.

What phone exactly will launch is unclear, as rumors for the next generation of both Moto Z and Moto X phones have been lingering. We also saw leaked images of the Box of the Moto Z2 Play recently.

Motorola seems to be on point when it comes to refreshing their device lineups, and now with both the Moto Z phones and Moto X phones due for update it could be either or both in this cycle.

  • Moto Z with Snapdragon 835 Shows Up In Leaks

Moto Z with Snapdragon 835 Shows Up In Leaks

Moto might be planning a revision of the Moto Z with a faster and more competent chipset. Sporting a Snapdragon 835 the new Moto Z leaked on benchmarking site GeekBench scoring 6207 on the multicore benchmark.

The RAM remains the same at 4GB which may just mean that the processor is the only area seeing improvements. Moto could be refreshing the lineup to keep in trend with the constant new arrivals slated in the coming few months.

Smartphones running flagship hardware are expected from Samsung, LG , HTC and even Nokia around the time of MWC, and this might be an excellent time for Moto to refresh their hardware and show off their abilities.

This could also be a completely revamped Moto Z phone with the same identifier running completely refreshed hardware. For now just the benchmark will do.

  • Moto Z and Moto Z Play Coming to India On 4th October

Moto Z and Moto Z Play Coming to India On 4th October

Lenovo brand Moto is launching Moto Z and Moto Z plus in India on the 4th of October. Hopefully the smartphone should reach the country with all its Mods including the awesome Hasselblad Camera attachment.

The Moto Z is a first foray into the “Z” segment on a global level. Lenovo had launched the phone at their global event two months back. The company promised that the Moto Z would be made available outside the US end of September, and October 4 is just a few days off.

    moto-mods-hasselblad-pdp-featex-hass-2-experience-d-vzw-1

The Moto Z has a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display and runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM. You get 32 or 64GB of storage with SD card expansion, 13-megapixel camera with f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization and the new fingerprint scanner that we saw in the G4 Plus. The Moto Z also gets a 2600mAh battery. The phone is super slim at just 5.2mm and light at just 136g.

The best part about the Moto Z phones is the modular capability, which allows you to snap on mods on the back of the phone and instantly shifting the purpose of the phone. Covers that snap can be had in a variety of materials or finishes, such as nylon, wood, or leather.

The SoundBoost Mod, built in partnership with JBL, is a speaker with upgraded two three-watt drivers and adds an extra 1,000mAh of battery capacity. The Power Pack Mod adds a 2,220mAh cell to the Moto Z. Of-course the Hasselblad camera mod adds the pro-camera capabilities of Hasselblad and a 10x zoom. You also get a projector mod that allows a 70″ screen from the back of the phone.

Moto Z Play will be a more affordable version of the Moto Z and will come with a Snapdragon 625. The Moto Z Force which has the shatter-sheild display remains a Verizon exclusive and will not launch in India, which is a pity.

Price wise no clear indication of what the phones will be priced in India. However in the US the phone is priced for $ 699, in India we expect it to be priced similarly between the 45k-50k price. The Moto Z play on the other hand will be the more affordable and more sought after product, seemingly around the Rs. 25,000 – 30,000 price bracket in India.

The Mods are plug and play and unlike the LG G5, you will not need to reboot your phone, the software comes preloaded on the Moto Z, and Moto Z force and the phone recognizes the pair instantly.

Both the Moto Z and Moto Z Force come with USB Type-C ports and without a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which now seems to be the industry standard.

Industry tipster @evleaks has leaked two images of the upcoming launch one showcasing the phones, and the other of the Mods which are replaceable back panels which will add new features to the phones.

By the looks of it one appears to be a kickstand and the other a camera module.
