The Lenovo Zuk brand has been popular for making budget phones to take on the likes of OnePlus and Xiaomi. With recent news of Lenovo marketing all their smartphones with the Moto branding, it appears that Zuk will remain to take on the budget giants.

New leaks from a Chinese certification authority, TENaA show that the Zuk Z2151 aka Zuk Edge will have a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, while running on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 2.35GHz alongside optional 4GB or 6GB RAM variants.

The Zuk Edge, despite the name, is not going to have an EDGE display like the Samsung S7 Edge. The phone is expected to run Android 6.0 with ZUI 2.0 but that may change by the time the phone is launched.

Storage wise the phone is expected to offer 32 GB and 64 GB, but seeing how OnePlus recently upped the storage to 128 GB in its OnePlus 3T, it is expected that the Zuk Edge might also offer 128 GB with the 6GB RAM variant.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is Now Official

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is Now Official

The Snapdragon 820 is said to pull the Snapdragon 810 out of darkness, as the company revealed some legitimate information on its newest upgrade.

First things first – it will use custom 64-bit Kryo cores, bye bye Cortex. But what the company has revealed is mostly about the GPU and ISP. The Snapdragon 820 will use the new generation Adreno 530 GPU, Snapdragon 618 and 620 will use 510. All 5-series Adrenos will support OpenGL 3.1 (with 3.2 coming later) and the new Vulcan API.

With these specifications in mind, Qualcomm is confident that there will be a 40% improvement in performance couple with a 40% cut in power.  The same goes for the Adreno 510 GPU, which should have the same perks over the 405.

The Snapdragon 820 is said to be supported by 14nm or 16nm chips (down from 20nm for the S810) and the power will be further boosted by a standalone power manager for the GPU. However, this hasn’t been made official, yet. The GPUs support HDMI 2.0 and up to 4K @ 60fps output, they’ll even manage 4K output wirelessly (though capped at 30fps).

Along with the above mentioned upgrades, we will also see the ISP being upgraded. The new Spectra Camera Image Signal Processor is said to be smoother at handling small camera pixels, hybrid autofocus (i.e. added phase detection AF), low-light performance and leaning on the GPU for software “optical zoom.”

The new Snapdragon will support dual cameras at the back and unlike its predecessor, the 820 will allow different focal lengths. The ISP and GPU will simulate zoom steps in between both focal lengths to achieve a smooth transition similar to proper optical zoom.

No other information has been yielded, other than the fact that Snapdragon 820 will be available on devices from 2016. Watch this space for more information.

  • Jott Messenger : How to Text Your Friends Without Using Wi-fi or Data

Jott Messenger : How to Text Your Friends Without Using Wi-fi or Data

Most of us got our first phones when we were 16 or maybe 14 (if you were lucky). A recent study proved that 88% of teenagers these days actually get their phones between ages 13 to 17. Naturally, no teen is spotted without his or her mobile phone today as they are active on social networking sites and are constantly texting their peers, whether in school or outside.

In India, most schools don’t permit phones within school campus but in the US, it’s okay to carry your device and be logged in all day. However, what happens when you can’t text due to limited balance or an improper data plan? You get Jott!

    jott

Jott is the perfect app for Junior high schoolers and high schoolers as it functions without the internet or a data plan. Sounds ideal? Yes, this app lets you chat with anyone within a closed network and within a 100 foot radius of the school campus. This means you can stay connected all day, whether its social or just exchanging notes.

Jared Allgood, creator of Jott has managed to push the app in the top 75 apps being used by iOS and this is no easy feat. Jott already has a huge user base of half a million users, as of March and is growing from strength to strength with 15,000-20,000 users joining the app, everyday. So how does this app work?

    jott 3

It works using the help of a mesh network “that operates on Bluetooth low energy or using a router that can reach within 100 feet of each user,” according to Techcrunch. This is different from sending a normal text messages that uses the help of cell towers to convey your text. Thus, anyone within close proximity, that is, a 100 feet can be easily accessed and spoken to.

Make Friends Within Your School or Any Closed Network

    jott 2

Jott only allows you to be a part of the network, if you share your real phone number. This actually benefits students because a lot of teens find it tough to talk face to face, so they can find out their class mate’s details via the school network and then approach them. Also, even if you don’t want to use it to get a pretty girl’s number or ask someone out, you can use it for studious purposes. You can actually get that one nerdy classmates number who will send you the whole years class notes and thus save you from failing your finals. It does sound very cool, indeed.

    No Security?

    jott 1

The internet is rampant with cyber bullying and teenagers being at the impressionable age they are, can often be harassed through these types of apps. That’s why Jott stands out. It has a strong security and privacy settings where in, those who are a part of school networks (that are closed) must create an account with their actual name and age and verify that they actually go to the school, they’re claiming to be a part of. If you do give a fake ID, other students will call your bluff because they will know for sure and you will be immediately removed from the network.

If this wasn’t enough, Jott also has disappearing messages and screenshot detection just like Snapchat. Therefore, there is no room for disaster and anyone using it is efficiently safeguarded.

Jott had been tested and tried by Allgood, first in a set of schools until it started majorly trending and reached the phenomenal following it has today. According to Niche data, about 87% of teens text daily, compared to 61% of those who say they use Facebook. Therefore, Allgood has actually used this data to his advantage and created an app that will further simplify and revolutionise texting. We suggest you try it out today as it is available on all iOS and Android devices and can be used on your iPods and iPads as well.

  • Samsung Details Exynos 5422, 5260 Chipsets

Samsung Details Exynos 5422, 5260 Chipsets

Samsung is adding two new processors to its Exynos family. The Samsung Exynos 5422 is an updated, faster version of the Exynos 5420 octa-core processor, while the new Exynos 5260 is the company’s first hexa-core chip.

The line struggles to compete with Qualcomm when it comes to LTE radio capabilities, so like previous releases we’ll see the Exynos version of the phone in markets where LTE isn’t an option yet. In the US and in parts of Europe where LTE has been steadily growing, we’ll see the Qualcomm variant so users can take advantage of the special bonded download feature Samsung has implemented for the Galaxy S5.

The 5422 has four Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 2.1GHz and four Cortex-A7 cores @ 1.5GHz. This is a good 200MHz upgrade over the previous Exynos 5420 SoC. The 5422, naturally, uses the big.LITTLE ARM architecture, but comes with Samsung’s own tweak – HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing) technology. The HMP allows the device to utilize any combination of cores, even all eight, at once.

Another addition to the Samsung’s Exynos family is the 5 Hexa or the Exynos 5260, is seen in the Galaxy Note 3 Neo, which features six CPU cores: two 1.7GHz ARM Cortex A15 cores and four 1.3GHz ARM Cortex A7 cores.

As per Samsung, the Exynos 5 Hexa supports WQXGA (2560 x 1600) display resolution and also supports full-HD (1080p) playback at up to 60 frames-per-second (fps).

Samsung further revealed that the samples of the processor are scheduled for mass production in the first quarter of 2014, while the Exynos 5260 is currently in mass production.

  • Facebook Testing Softwares To Track What Your Cursor Hovers On

Facebook Testing Softwares To Track What Your Cursor Hovers On

Facebook is testing a technology that will supposedly increase the data it collects for its users, company’s head of analytics group said in an interview.

Facebook might start collecting data on minute user interactions with its content, such as how long a user’s cursor hovers over a certain part of its website or whether a user’s newsfeed is visible at a given moment on the screen of his or her mobile phone, Facebook analytics chief Ken Rudin said Tuesday during an interview.

Ken Rudin tells the Wall Street Journal that Facebook is testing a system which targets ads based on where users mouse cursors hover. This tracking technology is not new, but implementing it on more then 1.2 billion users can be a big task for the company. Rudin notes that there won’t be a decision on this technology for another “couple of months,” and it may never see the light of day. What are your thoughts on this ?

  • Samsung Working On 12.2″ And 10″ Tablets With 2,560 x 1,600 Resolution Panels

Samsung has just released three new tablets in the form of the entry-level Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, the mid-range Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and the in-the-middle Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. While all are clear improvements over their predecessors, both in terms of appearance and software, they still lack the high-end components of some of their Galaxy Note counterparts.

According to evleaks, Samsung is to release a 12.2-inch Galaxy Note variant with an Exynos 5 Octa chip and high-resolution screen of 2560×1600 pixels, along with an S-Pen. This will likely appeal to the stationary tablet user, someone who wants a large, sharp display for sketching or drafting. Its model number is slated to be SM-P900.

Another tablet, a more manageable 10-inch variant, will likely join the Galaxy Tab family, and have a similar resolution of 2560×1600 pixels — this is the same density as the Nexus 10 — along with an ultra-fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC. Model number P600.

Expect these tablets to debut in the coming months, as Samsung continues to saturate the phone and tablet market with every conceivable price range and screen size.

There also exists the possibility that both of these tablets may have 3GB of RAM onboard. Right now no alleged pictures of both tablets have leaked and it is not known when Samsung plans on making them official.
