Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop Officially Launched

Xiaomi has officially launched the Mi MIX 2s in China on the 27th of March. Along with its flagship smartphone, the company has also launched a gaming laptop named Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop. The notebook comes two variants. The 8GB RAM model is priced at 5,999 Yuan and the 16GB RAM model retails for 8,999 Yuan. The notebook has design similarities as of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook with a full metal unibody design. In fact, the notebook also looks similar to the Apple MacBook Pro.

The Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop has a 15.4 inch FHD 1920 x 1080 px IPS LCD display with narrow bezels. Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake Core i7-7700HQ processor with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD plus 1TB HDD with NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU. Similarly, the entry-level model has the Core i5 7300HQ chipset with 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard flash storage with and a 1TB HDD with NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti GPU.

The laptop measures 20.99mm at its thickest point and also has a full-sized keypad with RGB lighting. Additionally, the notebook offers a wide range of ports, including 4 full-sized USB 3.0 port, 2 USB type C ports, HDMI port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The headphone jack has a dedicated AMP to increase the audio listing experience through wired headphones. Additionally, the speakers are certified by Dolby Atmos.

To keep this device cool all the time, the device is equipped with 3+2 design heat pipes with four air outlets. The company claims that the thermal design will keep the device cooler, even in an extensive gaming session.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s Officially Launched

Xiaomi has launched its most anticipated smartphone of the year, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s in China. The smartphone’s price starts at 3299 Yuan (Rs 32,999) and has flagship hardware with premium build quality. There are no drastic changes in design. However, incorporation of the iPhone X-style dual camera setup does give this smartphone a unique expression.

The company has used ceramic to offer mirror-like finish with added protection from 7000 series aluminium frame. Unlike most of the Android smartphone markers, the Mi MIX 2s doesn’t have a notch, instead, it has a prominent bezel at the bottom. To make it more premium, the company has used 18K gold around the camera and fingerprint sensor. The device will be available in Ceramic White and Black colour.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD display with a 2160 x 1080 px full screen 2.0 display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core processor with 2.8 GHz CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. This chipset is paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM along with 64GB/128GB/256GB storage. Just like the previous MIX smartphones, the Mi MIX 2s doesn’t have expandable storage.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX and the Mi MIX 2 were highly criticised for their camera capabilities. And now, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s might resolve this issue using dual primary camera setup. The smartphone has a 12MP wide angle and a 12MP telephoto lens, similar to the Apple iPhone 8. This camera setup can offer 2x optical zoom and portrait mode, which blurs the background by focusing on the subject. The primary camera is a Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4-micron pixel. Additionally, the camera also supports dual-pixel autofocus, which helps the smartphone to focus on a subject in low light environments. The smartphone can also record 4K videos.

The camera features do not end there. Xiaomi claims that it uses AI to improve background blurring to create perfect portrait photographs. The company also uses AI for scene detection, to improve the colour and clarity of the photo, depending on the subject in focus. The 5MP front-facing camera can also capture bokeh shots using a single camera. The phone also has an instant translation with instant currency conversion straight from the camera app. Based on the DXO Mark rating, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s scores 101 points in Photos, which is same as the Apple iPhone X.

Similar to Samsung and Apple, the company is also launching its own voice assistant. Which eases out the day to day tasks. The smartphone also has an NFC chip, which supports cashless payments (limited to China). The smartphone also supports Qi standard wireless charging with 7.5-watt output, which is faster than the iPhone X.

There is no word on the device’s availability outside in India. However, considering the Mi MIX 2 was launched in India, its successor will also hit the Indian shores soon.

Huawei is poised to launch its flagship smartphone for early-2018, the Huawei P20 Pro at an event in Paris today. Along with that, the Huawei P20 and P20 Lite will also be launched. Interestingly, the Huawei P20 Lite has already been on sale in a few markets although, it is going to be officially launched today.

The Huawei P20 Pro will be the first smartphone to have a triple camera setup on the back while the other two devices will have a dual-camera setup. All the three smartphones will have an iPhone X-style notch. So far, the renders have revealed a notch and a front-facing fingerprint sensor for the P20 Pro and P20. This means that despite the notch, the smartphone will not have minimal bezels around the display, like the iPhone X.

Nokia 1 Launched In India For Rs. 5499

At the Mobile World Congress 2018, HMD Global unveiled a plethora of smartphones. Right from the infamous “Banana Phone” from The Matrix to the Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 7 Plus. However, the Nokia 1, an Android Go running smartphone was also an important announcement. It has now been launched in India at a price of Rs 5499. In fact, the Nokia 1 will only be available via offline outlets from the 28th of March.

Google introduced Android Go back in early-December 2017 tailor-made for devices with 1GB of RAM. The company said the idea behind Android Go is to create a version of Android software which is designed to run better on phones with either 512MB or 1GB of RAM.

Google has claimed that Android Go’s Oreo edition will be a variant of Android Oreo that a manufacturer can just set by ticking off a configuration flag. What this basically does is that it sets up the phone to use the “Go” versions of a handful of Google apps such as the main Google app, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail, and others. Google claims that the smaller apps and slimmer OS can as much as halve the amount of storage that’s taken up by default on a new phone running default OS.

Nokia 1 Specs

The Nokia 1 has a 4.5 inch FWVGA display with an 854 x 480 px resolution. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A retails in India for Rs 5999 and has a 5 inch 1280 x 720 px resolution.

Under the hood, the Nokia 1 has the MediaTek MT6737M chipset with a 1GHz quad-core processor. This is coupled with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. There is nothing to write home about its camera as well. The Nokia 1 has a 5MP primary camera with an LED flash. On the front is a 2MP camera. However, the Redmi 5A offers 13MP primary camera and a 5MP front camera.

Out of the box, the smartphone will run Android 8.1 Oreo-based Android Go operating system. Powering the smartphone will be a 2150 mAh battery. The company claims will deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time.

Casio Announces Smartwatch Powered By Wear OS

Recently Google rebranded its wearable OS from Android Wear to Wear OS. And now, Casio has officially announced the Casio WSD-F20SC smartwatch powered by the new Wear OS. This is the second smartwatch to ship with Wear OS, after the ‘Big Bang Referee‘ from Hublot. The Casio WSD-F20SC is a limited edition rugged smartwatch.

This smartwatch is an upgraded version of the WSD-F20, which was launched in 2017. As the Casio WSD-F20SC is a limited edition device, the company has limited the number of devices to 700 units only. The smartwatch will be available from June 2o18. However, the company is yet to make an announcement on the pricing of this watch. Features like Ion-plated buttons and sapphire crystal glass protection is will differentiate this smartwatch from the competition.

The watch will have a 1.32 inch colour TFT display. The display found on this watch has a dual layer screen with a colour and a monochrome display. This is a handy feature, which helps the device to save battery. The watch can pair up with either Android or iOS smartphone. However, those devices should be running on Android 4.3 and iOS 9 or latest operating systems.

The smartwatch has support for GPS and GLONASS. Similarly, it also comes with Color Maps with support for offline navigation. The Casio WSD-F20SC is water resistant up to 50meters and MIL-STD-810G certified for additional ruggedness. The device also includes trucking friendly features like Pressure sensor, accelerometer, gyro metre and a compass. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with latest IEEE 802.11 b/g/n standards.

The watch has a sealed battery, which charges via magnetic charging terminal, which takes 2 hours to charge completely. The watch can be used in three modes (GPS off), the normal use with the coloured display on offers one-day battery life. The normal mode with colour display auto-off offers up to 2days battery life. The Time Piece mode can offer up to 30 days of battery life. However, this mode disables the smart features, and can only show time. The battery life takes a slight hit when GPS is turned on.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 Priced At Rs. 13,990 Listed on Samsung India’s Website

Samsung India has officially listed the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 on its website for a price of Rs 13,990. But, it is listed as sold out and there are no details regarding the availability of the smartphone yet. However, considering the wallpaper, which says 26th June, the device might get official on the same date.

The device has a metal unibody design with plastic antenna bands on top and bottom. Additionally, the navigation keys have been slightly resigned with a modern look.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 Specs

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 has a 5.5 inch TFT display with 16:9 aspect ratio, which is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla glass. Under the hood, the device has the Exynos 7870 Octa-core chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. Additionally, the storage is expandable up to 256GB using a dedicated micro SD card slot.

The phone has a 13MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture with 28mm focal length. For the front-facing camera, Samsung has used a similar 13MP sensor with an f/1.9 aperture. The video recording is limited to 1080 @ 30fps on both cameras. Additionally, the device has a front-facing fingerprint sensor, embedded into a home button.

The smartphone runs on Android 7 Nougat with Samsung Experience UI on top. Connectivity features like Wi-Fi/ac, Bluetooth 4.1 are also onboard. As the device misses out on the NFC sensor, it has Samsung Pay mini. The device has a 3300 mAh battery with a micro USB port that supports USB OTG.

Smartphone makers like Honor and Xiaomi have been launching smartphones with dual cameras, taller display, faster processor and much more. Devices like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Honor 7x cost the same but have a much better hardware. The Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is nowhere near those devices in terms of specifications. However, how this device performs in the real world is yet to be seen.

Samsung Exynos 9610 Chipset Officially Announced

Samsung has officially announced the Exynos 9610 Octa-core chipset. The Exynos 9610 is a series 7 processor which uses ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, which will power Samsung mid-tier devices. The processor is based on 10nm FinFET architecture and the mass production will start by the end of Q2 2o18.

The chipset has 4 high-performance A-73 cores, which handles CPU intensive tasks and applications. Similarly, the other 4 cores are based on A-53. JoJo Bizarre LG V30+ Special Edition Launched

LG has once again launched a re-branded LG V30. Initially, the company launched the LG V30, then came the LG V30+ and then the LG V30S ThinQ. And now, the company has launched the LG V30+ JoJo Bizarre special edition in Japan. LG has partnered with NCC DoCoMo to launch limited edition smartphone, with a design inspired by JoJo Bizarre (a famous manga series in Japan).

The smartphone comes with a model number JOJO L-02K and the stock is limited to 10,000 units. The device has superficial changes like a new white theme with the show’s art engraved on the back of the device. Similarly, there are additional tweaks in themes department with JoJo-themed wallpapers. The smartphone will be available exclusively in Japan for JPY 125,000 (Rs 76,685) and the pre-orders are up on DoCoMo’s network.

The device has a 3,060 mAh battery with wireless fast charging which supports 3.0 quick charge. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.2 with LG’s UX 6.0+ on top which offers a few customisation options.

The camera features laser detection AF, optical image stabilisation and electronic image stabilisation. On the front side, the LG V30+ sports a 5MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture.

Reliance JioFi Hotspot Launched In India For Rs 999

Reliance Jio has launched a new JioFi Hospot in India with the model number JMR815. This is the fourth iteration of the JioFi, which comes with a new shape and a bigger battery. The JioFi JMR815 Hotspot is available exclusively on Flipkart for Rs 999. Just like every other JioFi device, this one is also network locked. Which means, it works only with Jio network.

The JioFi JMR815 Hotspot has a tag “designed in India”, which means the research and development (R&D) has been done locally. Besides, the device now supports a maximum theoretical download speed of 150Mbps and upload speed of 50Mbps. The JioFi Hotspot supports a maximum of 32 connections at a time with 31 wireless networks and one over USB. However, considering the maximum speed, we do not recommend connecting more than two devices at a time. The connected users can make voice or video calls using Jio 4G apps. Samsung Launches The Rugged Galaxy Tab Active 2

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Tab Active 2 in the US, which is the successor of the Samsung Galaxy Active. There aren’t a lot of rugged tablets on the market, and this one from Samsung tried to fill that gaping hole. However, it doesn’t possess the best specifications out there by any stretch of the imagination. The rubber-like material will absorb the shock keeping the internal hardware and display intact. The tablet is priced at US$ 450 for the Wi-Fi version and is available on Samsung’s official website. Similarly, there is an LTE version, but the price is yet to be known.

Like most of the rugged devices, this is made to withstand various environmental conditions. Subsequently, the device is MIL-STD-810 certified with IP68 water and dust resistance rating. The retail package also includes a rugged S-Pen, which works even in wet conditions. The Galaxy Tab Active 2 can be mounted to a professional grade vehicle, which can charge via pogo pins. The pogo pins connect with the device magnetically to give a firm grip. In fact, the pogo pin looks similar to Apple’s MagSafe charger.

Xiaomi Mi Earphones, Mi Earphones Basic Launched In India Starting At Rs. 399

Xiaomi has launched two new affordable in-ear earphones in India on the 20th of March 2018. The Xiaomi Mi Earphones are priced at Rs 699 and the Mi Earphones Basic are priced at Rs 399.

These earphones are exclusively available on Mi.com and are on sale right now. The earphones are compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

The Mi Earphones are made using 20 steps process to create a metallic chamber with dynamic bass. Similarly, the headphones have undergone CD cutting and diamond engraving. These earphones use 3rd generation balanced damping system to enhance the sound quality. These are the lightest earphones from Xiaomi, which measures at 14 Grams.

There is an in-line microphone with a button to answer calls. Similarly, the built-in microphone has a 58dB(A) signal to noise ratio. The Kevlar fibre cable is supposed to be extremely durable and prevent tangling and discolouration. Additionally, the retail package includes three earbuds.

HTC Desire 12 And Desire 12+ With 18:9 Aspect Ratio Officially Launched

HTC has officially launched the HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ in Europe. These are the first set of non-flagship smartphones from HTC to feature taller 18:9 aspect ratio display with a premium glass design. The price of the Desire 12+ ranges between 235 Euros and 249 Euros (depending on the market). Similarly, the Desire 12’s price ranges between 185 euros and 199 Euros (depending on market).

The Desire 12 and 12+ looks similar to the HTC U11+. Subsequently, both the mid-range smartphones sport an 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels. Although, the top and bottom bezels are quite prominent despite the tall display.

The HTC Desire 12+ has a 5.99 inch HD+ 1440 x 720px IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The storage is user expandable up to 400GB using a micro SD card.

The smartphone has a dual primary camera setup with a 13MP RGB sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. It is worth noting that the Honor 9 Lite has a similar design and primary camera setup. Similarly, the device has an 8MP front-facing camera. Both the camera units can record videos up to 1080p @ 30fps. Like most of the mid-tier smartphones, the HTC Desire 12+ has a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. The smartphone has a same 13MP primary camera but misses out on the depth sensor. Even the front-facing camera has been downgraded from 8MP to 5MP.The smartphone runs on Android 8 Oreo with custom HTC SenseUI with a 2730 mAh sealed-battery.
