  • Google Drops Nexus 4 Price To $199 For 8GB And $249 For 16GB

Google Drops Nexus 4 Price To $199 For 8GB And $249 For 16GB

In what will undoubtedly be seen as a way to clear inventory before the inevitable launch of a successor, Google has lowered the price of the Nexus 4 to an astounding $199 (Rs. 13,400) and $249 (Rs.16,750).

Reaching that hallowed $199 price point is an incredible feat for Google, since it has yet to penetrate the mainstream market with its Nexus line. These prices will no doubt send other OEMs scrambling to do the same before the holiday season, as this is clearly the best deal for a high-end smartphone.

Regardless of the reason, this is an amazing deal for anyone looking at a new smartphone. With a quad-core processor, a 720p display, 2GB of RAM, a 2100mAh battery, an 8MP camera and the very latest version of stock Android, the Nexus 4 is a great device at any price. This just makes it better.

However, this price drop seems targeted for the US region, as there has been no news whether we will see the prices of the Nexus 4 in India reduced to match their US counterparts. At present, the 16GB Nexus 4 is priced at about Rs 25,990 in the Indian market.

Even with the outrageous condition of the Rupee at the moment, ordering a Nexus 4 from the US seems like a far better option than buying one from here.

  • BlackBerry 9720 Announced, Runs BlackBerry OS 7.1

BlackBerry 9720 Announced, Runs BlackBerry OS 7.1

During the BlackBerry Q1 2014 conference call, BlackBerry CEO, Thorsten Heins let it be known a new BlackBerry 7.1 device would be released soon and after many sneek peeks at it in unofficial capacity, the time has come to make it all official. The BlackBerry 9720 has finally been announced and will be making its way to Asia, EMEA and Latin America in the coming weeks.

As its new BlackBerry 10 operating system struggles to get off the ground, the company is still depending on the old version 7. During its last fiscal quarter BlackBerry shipped 6.8 million smartphones, but only 2.7 million phones running the new OS.

The launch of the BlackBerry 9720, which runs a refreshed version of the BlackBerry 7 OS, may play to the company’s dwindling strength. The smartphone has a re-engineered physical QWERTY keyboard with a dedicated BBM key, a trackpad and a a 2.8-inch touchscreen with 480 x 360 pixel resolution. It has 512MB of RAM.

The BlackBerry 9720 also has a 5-megapixel camera and an FM radio. Connectivity options include HSPA, 802.11n and A-GPS. The phone is packed with a 1450mAH removable battery, which is claimed to offer up to 7 hours of talktime and 18 days of standby time.

On the software side, BlackBerry has focused on social networking features. Users can write a message once and post it simultaneously to their friends on BBM, Twitter and Facebook, for example.

The updated interface also lets users swipe to unlock the phone or access the camera from the lock screen, among other enhancements.

Currently there is no indication of pricing or availability in India, but stay tuned for more information.

  • New Nexus 7 To Debut Next Week, Video And Specs Leaked

New Nexus 7 To Debut Next Week, Video And Specs Leaked

The Nexus 7 sequel has been on the docket for a long time, and rumoured specifications have been floating around for months — a 7-inch 1280×800 display, a quad-core Snapdragon 600 SoC, 2GB RAM, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, 5MP rear camera, Android 4.3 — but nothing has been confirmed.

Today Google started sending out invites to a “breakfast” conference being held next week with Android head, Sundar Pichai, but Engadget got their hands on an internal OfficeMax document stating that the “new Google Nexus 7″ is also launching next week. Coincidence? Probably not.

    nexus 7

The device is expected to launch at $229 USD for the 16GB model, increasing to $269 for the 32GB version. Not the $199 we saw the original debut at, but this is a much more powerful machine.

The more interesting info comes from Android Central, who got their hands on the device itself. “we have no idea if what we see here is a finished product, or prototype,” cautions the site, but the pics certainly look legitimate.

    nexus 7

The only change from previously rumoured specs according to Android Central being the inclusion of 4GB of RAM (unlikely) and a slower Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC. And, of course, it will be manufactured once again by Asustek.

    [youtube id=”HXrcUyCVA6c” width=”100%” height=”300px”]

The new design appears to mimic its predecessor. The Nexus insignia on the rear is similarly placed as before, as are the various buttons, rockers and ports. There are two speakers on the device, which will provide stereo sound playback and hopefully be an improvement over the original.

    nexus 7

The design is also slightly more squared-off than last year’s model, but we can’t be sure if what we’re seeing is a prototype or a finished product.

    nexus 7

Google is also expected to launch Android 4.3 next week, a small but important update to the current software. The existing Nexus 7, as well as the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 should receive the new version in the weeks following the announcement.

For its part, Apple is also expected to refresh its 8-inch tablet in the not-so-distant future.Recent rumors suggest that a new version of the iPad mini will launch alongside a redesigned iPad 5 this fall, though it doesn’t sound like it’ll get the Retina treatment.

What do you think of the next-gen Nexus 7 thus far?

  • Panasonic Launches Three New Mirrorless Cameras

Panasonic Launches Three New Mirrorless Cameras

Panasonic recently added three new cameras to its Mirrorless series- the GX1, G5 and GH3. The price range of the cameras ranges from Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 99,990 (body only).

    Panasonic GH3

    Panasonic

The camera offers smooth high-definition progressive scanning, a host of recording formats, and a heat-dispersing design for extended shooting.

At the heart of the DMC-GH3 lies a re-engineered 16.05-megapixel Live MOS Sensor. To maximize the resolution of the newly developed Live MOS Sensor, the image sensing block is designed as an integrated unit. The new filter optimizes the conventionally conflicting effects of increasing resolution while suppressing moire. The camera also features the new Venus Engine which has an unprecedented ability to process both still and video signals with razor-sharp clarity.

A rugged magnesium alloy body with a splash proof, dustproof design makes the DMC-GH3 tough enough for active outdoor use. . In the DMC-GH3’s Contrast AF system, the image sensor doubles as the AF sensor to resist any mechanical margin of error.

The DMC-GH3 uses a variety of advanced recording media, including the SDXC, SDHC, and SD Memory Cards. It lets you transfer your valuable shooting data at lightning fast speeds. The camera also has a built-in Wi-Fi® (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) function. By installing LUMIX LINK 2.1 or newer, a dedicated application compatible with iOS and Android for smartphones and tablets, you can enjoy a new shooting style using Wi-Fi.

Price: Rs. 99,990 Body, Rs 154990 with 14140 lens.

    Panasonic GX1

    646-1-Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-GX1-front

The Panasonic GX1 comes equipped with a 16.0-megapixel Live MOS Sensor. With the dedicated circuit, which reads out signals with minimum noise, the level of noise is significantly suppressed by more than 66%.

The DMC-GX1 features approx. 0.09 second of ultra-high speed Light Speed AF which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by the synchronization of the lens and the sensor at 120 fps.

An electric zoom lever on the left side of the lens barrel makes it smoother to zoom when concentrating on the shutter operation with the right hand.

Price: Rs.34,990 with 1442 mm lens.

    Panasonic G5

    PanasonicG5e

Panasonic has formally unveiled the LUMIX DMC-G5, a mid-level mirrorless interchangable lens camera. The G5 is built around a 16MP LiveMOS sensor that the company implies hasn’t been used in a G-series camera before. This, combined with the company’s latest ‘Venus Engine’ allows the capture of 1080p video at 60 frames per second. It also gains an additional control lever, higher-resolution 920,000 dot rear LCD and regains the eye-sensor to automatically switch between LCD and electronic viewfinder.

The Panasonic DMC-G5 features two types of noise reduction: Multiprocess Noise Reduction, which optimizes the noise reduction in the bright parts of the image for both single* and burst shooting, and 3D Noise Reduction, which applies optimal noise reduction by differentiating the edges and the smooth parts of the image in single shots.

It features the world’s fastest level of auto focusing, called Light Speed AF, which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 to 120 frames per second.* The DMC-G5’s high-speed, high-precision AF functions operate even while shooting videos. The DMC-G5 records high-resolution Full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 60p (NTSC)/50p (PAL) videos with 28 Mbps videos in AVCHD Progressive (MPEG-4/H.264) format.

Price: Rs. 37,990 with 1442 mm, Rs. 43,990 with 1442 and 45150 mm lens.

  • Motorola Droid Ultra Makes An Appearance In A Leaked Photo

Motorola Droid Ultra Makes An Appearance In A Leaked Photo

A photo of the Motorola Droid Ultra XT1080 has appeared on the XDA Developers forum as leaked by user xavierk75, according to Engadget. Earlier this week the first press images appeared of Motorola‘s upcoming DROID MAXX.

There is absolutely zero details to go along with the leak, but hopefully more will be coming. A random 1-post user over on XDA revealed the photo, so we’re stuck waiting for more. Right out the gate we see Motorola has changed their mind from last year, and they’ve returned to capacitive touch hardware buttons.

The Motorola Droid Ultra in the photo shows a white face plate with thin bezels. It has a speaker and sensors on its top and a power button and volume controls on one side. Just beside the display, the smartphone is labelled “Motorola confidential property.” It also sports the new Motorola logo that was launched some time ago, the same one which has been seen on other purported photos of leaked Motorola phones. White is expected to be one of the color choices that will be available for the handset, along with red and black, so there may be a chance that this is a real image of the device.

Rumoured specs of the Motorola Droid Ultra include a Dupont Kevlar coating, various color options, a 4.3-inch, 540 x 960-pixel Super AMOLED Advanced qHD screen, Dual-Core 1.5GHz processsor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 8GB of memory, 2000 mAh Li Ion battery, NFC, and 8 MP/0.3 MP cameras.

@evleaks says that the Motorola Droid Ultra has the product code XT1080, whereas the Droid MAXX has the code XT1080M.

  • Canon PowerShot A2500 Review

    Canon PowerShot A2500 Review

Canon has revamped one of its entry-level pocket camera, the PowerShot A2300, with the PowerShot A2500.

The Canon Powershot A2500 employs the same 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor, the same DiGiC 4 processor, the same 5x optical zoom lens that delivers from 28mm wide angle (max aperture of f/2.8) to 140mm equivalent telephoto (max aperture of f/6.9) range, the same 2.7-inch, 230,000-dot LCD display and the same basic 720p HD video capabilities.

    Build Quality And Design

At 125 gram weight, Canon PowerShot A2500 is among the lightest cameras around. It is solidly built and has a silver accent towards the front of the camera that separates it from its predecessor.

    Canon PowerShot A2500

At the back there is the LCD monitor with a control panel comprising of a 5-way D-pad and buttons for video recording, help, playback and menu.

    Canon PowerShot A2500

Space for battery and SD card are at the bottom while USB port is located to the right. It uses a li-ion battery pack and the PowerShot A2500 also features Canon’s new ECO Mode which saves power so you can take more pictures on a single charge.

    Performance

The images we shot from the Canon PowerShot A2500 seemed a little lackluster. The colour reproduction felt slightly unnatural and the images weren’t sharp enough. Outdoor images were decent though. Indoor images however, were not up to the mark. You can check out the sample images and video in our video review below.

The Canon PowerShot A2500 employs Canon’s Smart AUTO Mode, which recognizes up to 32 different shooting situations and selects the camera settings for no-fuss picture taking. Creative filters available include Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome.

As the Canon PowerShot A2500 does not feature Optical Image Stabilization, videos were quite shaky and low light imaging as a result was unsatisfactory. There’s digital image stabilization, but that typically works by raising ISO sensitivity and noise levels to increase your shutter speed and reduce blur – not necessarily what most shooters are looking for.

It records 720p HD video at twenty five frames per second and 640 x 480 VGA video at 30 frames per second. It picked up background audio quite nicely though, and the 5x zoom came in handy.

    Conclusion

if you’re not picky about your photos, take mostly outside shots and primarily share them with friends and family online, then the price of the Canon PowerShot A2500 at Rs 5,500 is just right.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra Announced Officially, Snapdragon 800, 6.4″ 1080p Display (PR)

After numerous leaks over the past few weeks, Sony today officially announced the Sony Xperia Z Ultra,  a new smartphone with a 6.4-inch full high-definition screen and a Snapdragon 800 chipset.

The 6.4-inch, 1,920 by 1,080 pixel display is what Sony calls a TRILUMINOUS Display, incorporating technology from the Bravia television line, including the X-Reality video-enhancing software.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra works with a stylus (or any pencil, Sony says) and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. There’s a powerful Adreno 330 GPU to push all the pixels to the screen too, a part of the new Snapdragon 800 chipset, which also packs a quad-core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.2GHz.

At 6.5 mmm Sony is heralding the phone as the “world’s slimmest and largest full HD smartphone.”

Other specs of note include an 8-megapixel camera, a 3,000 mAh battery and 16 gigabytes of internal storage, with about 11 GB available to the user, and a microSD card slot for extra space. (Props to Sony for being up-front about the usable storage space).

The battery, on the other hand, is a quite respectable 3000mAh, though that screen will definitely eat it up faster than more conventional phones.

    Sony Xperia Z Ultra

The Xperia Z Ultra is set for a third quarter 2013 global release, with precise dates varying by market. There is no price set for the phone at the moment.

    Galaxy Mega 5.8 Initial Impressions

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 is a large device, but clearly is not as large as its big brother the Mega 6.3, next to the Galaxy S4 the Mega 5.8 simply dwarfs the current flagship from the Korean Manufacturer. The display is a 540 x 960 px capacitive touchscreen, and despite a lowly 190 ppi the screen is really sharp and great to look at. The screen is also extremely bright, fairly visible outdoors and has good viewing angles.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 Unboxing 8

The Galaxy Mega features a dual core 1.4 GHz chipset which is the same chipset seen on the Galaxy Grand, which was pretty good at handling gaming on the smaller variant, but may not deliver on a larger screen with a higher resolution. The phone also has 8 GB storage and 1.5GB of RAM, along with expandability upto 64 GB via microSD.

The phone is also capable of handling two sim cards at the same time with Samsung’s new dual sim smart active mode with active forwarding to your numbers.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 Unboxing 4

The Galaxy Mega 5.8 has dual cameras, an 8MP main shooter and a secondary 1.9 MP camera, both of which capture video at 1080p. The phone also comes with Android 4.2.2 out of the box slapped on with a generous dose of Touchwiz, with many of the UI elements inspired from the S4.

The Galaxy Mega 5.8 appears to be big but is easily handleable and is not that bigger than the Galaxy Note 2. The phone will fit into regular denim pockets, but may cause issues if you are one of those skinny fit lovers.

The UI seems fast and responsive and the handset seems to be holding up well, stay tuned for a barrage of videos iGyaan Style.
