It has just been two days since Razer announced the second iteration of the Razer Phone and we have some excellent news on that front. The Razer Phone had very few colour options. But with Razer Phone 2 they have decided to provide a transparent back option as well. The idea of a transparent back is not new and has been used by many phones before as well. Phones like Xiaomi Mi 8 EE and HTC HTC U12+ have had transparent variants. Being a gaming phone, the Razer Phone 2 will also feature their logo at the back which lights up and changes colour as well.

    Features and specifications

The Razer Phone 2 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage options. The phone also has a whopping 1 TB external storage support via a microSD and runs Android 8.1 Oreo. The 4000 mAh battery is an extremely useful feature for heavy gamers.  It features a 5.72 inch IGZO LCD QHD display with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The 8GB ram and vapor chamber cooling make this phone an absolute beast for gaming and heavy duty usage. The Razer Phone 2 also sports dual 12 MP cameras at the back and an 8-megapixel sensor on the front.

It will be great to be able to take a look at the internals of the phone and the RGB LED lighting but at the moment it is unclear as to when the phone will be available or how much it will cost. The standard version of the phone costs $ 799.99. There is no news on whether the transparent back will bring any changes to the internals of the phone to make it look beautiful either but we can’t wait to see the internals of this beast!

Razer Phone 2 To Launch By The End Of The Year

It was in the November of 2017 when Razer announced their first Android smartphone. For the first time, the company entered the smartphone market with the Razer Phone. Razer is a gaming hardware manufacturing company which usually produces gaming laptops, headphone, mouse pads, etc. Also a first for the company and the smartphone industry was the 120Hz screen of the Razer Phone. The smartphone was, all in all, a complete flagship package from 2017 standards. The company is now planning to launch a second gaming smartphone in the Razer Phone lineup and we are excited. From a hardware perspective, the Razer Phone ticks all the checkboxes of a flagship smartphone. Stereo speakers, HDR display, 4,000 mAh battery, and the premium price tag of US4899.99 (Rs. 48,068.66 approx). The new smartphone will probably be called the Razer Phone 2.

The Vice President of Razer, Chen Xiaoping, announced at an event in China that the will launch Razer Phone 2 by the end of 2018. He went on to add that the device is already in the works. So, it is safe to assume that by end of the year, he means the smartphone may arrive sometime in December. According to Chen, the Razer Phone 2 will run the latest flagship chipset offering of Qualcomm. Currently, Qualcomm flagship chipset is the Snapdragon 845. However, some sources claim that the smartphone may pack the rumoured Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, scheduled for a launch in early December.

    Razer Phone 2

The Razer Phone 2 could also sport a 5.7-inch display, which in all likelihood, would also be a 120Hz panel. The display in the Razer Phone was a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel. Since Corning unveiled the Gorilla Glass 6 a while ago, Razer might join the likes of Oppo, Apple, and Samsung to feature the glass on its smartphone. The Razer Phone also retained the 3.5 mm headphone jack, a trend, we hope continues with the Razer Phone 2. Most flagship and even mid-range phones offer an 8GB RAM variant so, it would not be surprising for the company to release one such variant of the device. There is still time before this smartphone is officially unveiled in December. So, stay tuned for more news and rumours about the smartphone.

The latest entrant into the gaming-centric smartphones segment appears to Xiaomi. As per a leak, the company might launch a gaming-centric smartphone called BlackShark.

Xiaomi is known for budget and affordable flagship smartphones. However, it will be interesting to see if the company will retain the pricing strategy for this device as well.

The teaser image from the website doesn’t say much, but, it indicates the dual stereo speakers at the bottom with a USB type C port. In fact, the design of the phone does not look anything similar to any of the Xiaomi smartphones. The company might have gone for a complete redesign of its new device.

    Razer Phone

The features of Xiaomi BlackShark are expected to match with the features of the Razer Phone, which offered top of the line specifications with gaming-centric features like the dual stereo speaker, 120Hz refresh rate, and the Snapdragon 835.

    Specifications of Xiaomi BlackShark:

The Xiaomi BlackShark is expected to have a 6 inch display with 2160 x 1080p resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset with 8 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. However, the company is expected to Xiaomi BlackShark with either 64GB or 128GB storage.

The BlackShark might offer a full metal unibody design with dual stereo speakers at the bottom. Out of the box, the smartphone will run on Android 8.0 Oreo. However, it might feature either MIUI or stock Android. As this is a gaming smartphone, it comes with one of a kind aviation class cooling system with additional tweaks. The smartphone scores an impressive 270680 points on Antutu, in fact, it is more than that of the Galaxy S9’s 265267 points.

    Mi Mix 2
    Conclusion:

Going by the company’s pricing strategy, the Xiaomi BlackShark should be priced competitively. However, the company might not launch this smartphone at MWC 2018, instead, it might have a separate launch event in China sometime later in 2018. Therefore, if true, the Mi BlackShark will surely give the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 a run for its money.

  • Razer Phone 2, Project Linda Could Be Announced At IFA 2018

Razer Phone 2, Project Linda Could Be Announced At IFA 2018

Razer, one of the most popular gaming accessories maker surprised everyone by launching a smartphone in late-2017. The eponymous device was marketed as a smartphone for gamers with high-end specifications. One of the most interesting aspects of the Razer Phone was its display. The phone from Razer is the only smartphone to have a 120Hz refresh rate (iPad Pro is a tablet and also has the 120Hz refresh rate).

It looks like the Razer Phone was not just a one-off experiment by Razer as a report claims that the company is planning to launch the Razer Phone 2 (tentatively named) in September. This means that an IFA 2018 announcement is likely. The “company insider” also claims that Project Linda, a concept showcased by Razer at CES 2018 could also make its way to the market along with the new smartphone.

Project Linda is a concept that Razer revealed at CES 2018, wherein the Razer Phone powers the whole laptop. It is a laptop shell with a cutout for the Razer Phone in place of a trackpad. Once the phone is placed inside the cutout, a USB C pin connect the laptop case to the Razer phone. Once connected, the laptop uses the smartphone’s hardware to function and the phone’s display turns into a trackpad. Everyone who covered this concept talked about the Razer Phone’s speakers being enough to produce sound out of a laptop which means that the laptop case does not have any speakers built into it.

While the concept is very interesting, everyone thought that this would remain a concept only, just like a lot of other concept products found in CES. However, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan teased on Twitter that it could be a consumer-ready product soon.

    https://twitter.com/minliangtan/status/953064773238669312

Considering that project Linda took about 2-3 months, and the design work only took about one of those months to be ready, it is possible that Razer feels the concept is ready to be turned into a product.

Razer Smartphone Image Leaked Before Imminent Announcement

The anticipation a smartphone made by Razer has been on a rise in the past few days. After Razer announced the date of launch for its upcoming smartphone, there have been a few leaks revealing key details about the device. But, a new leak has revealed what the phone might look like and also confirmed a key feature.

Slovakian blog TechByte has posted the photo of the Razer smartphone’s back-side. As can be seen in the image above, the smartphone has the Razer logo and it will be interesting to see if the logo is back lit with Razer’s signature green light. Another key feature is the dual-camera setup at the back. There isn’t much known about the camera except that it will record 3840 x 2160 px videos. There are certain design similarities with the Nextbit Robin phone, a company which was acquired by Razer in January of 2017. The circular volume rockers on the left of the device (right side of the image) and a rectangular design are reminiscent of the Robin phone.

    Nextbit Robin Mint

A recent listing on GFXBench revealed a few key specifications of the upcoming Razer phone as well.  As per the listing, the phone will have a 5.7 inch display with a Quad HD 2560 x 1440 px resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and 64GB onboard storage. The standout spec here is the RAM. While most of the flagship smartphones cap out with 4GB of RAM, with the exception of OnePlus 5 which has a 8GB RAM variant, the Razer smartphone will also have 8GB of RAM. Extra RAM makes sense as Razer will market this as a gaming device as the company itself pioneers in gaming accessories.

    Razer Smartphone Specifications Leaked

Razer took to Twitter on October 11th to reveal that it will be announcing its first ever smartphone on the 1st of November. A listing on GFXBench appears to be of the upcoming Razer smartphone with high-end specifications.

Extra RAM makes sense as Razer will market this as a gaming device as Razer itself is gaming accessories company.

While a specs listing doesn’t clearly tell us what the cameras will be like on this phone, it appears that the Razer Phone will have a 12MP sensor on the back and an 8MP camera on the front. The camera at the back will record 3840 x 2160 px videos as well.

The listing shows that the phone will run Android 7.1 Nougat and apparently it will have a custom skin on top. In January 2017, Razer acquired Nextbit, the company that made the Robin phone. Razer may use the assets as well as the core management and employees for making its smartphone and features like the deep cloud storage integration.

More information about the phone will be leaked in the coming days, as is with every smartphone launch. The official announcement of the phone is set for 1st November.

  • Razer Teases Its First Smartphone Announcement On November 1st

Razer Teases Its First Smartphone Announcement On November 1st

It seems like Razer will be joining the smartphone race and the announcement will be made as soon as 1st November. For the past few months, Razer has been dropping vague hints about its first ever smartphone and the company took to Twitter to share the news.

The teaser shows a person holding what clearly seems like a smartphone.

In January 2017, Razer acquired Nextbit, the company that made the Android device Robin. This was the first major hint that the company, best known for its gaming accessories for PCs and consoles, along with high-end PC gaming laptops, was planning to enter the smartphone market.

A few weeks ago, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan confirmed that the company was going to launch a mobile device before the end of 2017, and that it would be focused on “gaming and entertainment”. Last week, a Twitter post by Tom Moss, the head of Razer’s mobile division, had him standing next to Tan, who had what appears to be a conveniently covered prototype of Razer’s phone in his pocket.

There is not much known about the smartphone except for the fact that it will concentrate on gaming and content consumption, and that it’ll be powered by Android. Considering the premium price tag of most of the products that have Razer’s name on it, the smartphone could enter the flagship category dominated by the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google.
