Everything in the Lenovo K3 Note Makes it Better Than the Rest

Lenovo‘s offerings have been doing fairly well in the smartphone sector of the Indian market. The company recently claimed that it has sold more than 1 million 4G enabled smartphones in 2015 via Flipkart. Now, it is planning to launch their newest phablet in India later this month. Lenovo India has started sending out press releases for the launch of a new device on 25th June and it is highly possible that the device might turn out to be the 4G-capable Lenovo K3 Note, which was launched in China earlier this year.

    lenovo_india_note_invite

The Lenovo K3 Note flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080) IPS display and is powered by a 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6752 octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 2GB of RAM. It offers 16GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. The phablet also stars a 13MP snapper at the back with a LED flash, 5MP front camera and a 3,000mAh battery, which the company claims is good enough for 36 hours of talk time on 3G, and up to 750 hours in standby mode.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G support on both SIMs, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The phablet runs on Android Lollipop 5.0 out-of-the-box, wrapped under Lenovo Vibe 2.5 UI.

The device was launched in China earlier this year for a price tag of Rs 9,000 approximately. Hence, it is safe to say that the device will come well within the Rs 10,000 range.  The K3 Note will go against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G and the Yu Yureka. The device may also come in a variety of colour options.

  • Excited About Gmail’s ‘Undo Send’ Feature? Then You Should Check Out Sidekick

Excited About Gmail’s ‘Undo Send’ Feature? Then You Should Check Out Sidekick

Gmail has just rolled out, perhaps, the most useful update. Yes, we’re talking about the ‘Undo Send’ feature. Google had been working on this feature for the past six years, and the work is now an official setting in the Gmail interface. As the name suggests, Undo Send pauses posting your email for a few seconds after you click Send, so you can take it back if you, for example, spell someone’s name wrong. When it started in 2009, Undo Send would pause sending your emails for five seconds, but now, it lets users choose if they want to retain their mail for 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds.

    Gmail Undo Send

But, when you send an urgent email to someone, how do you know whether they have opened the mail or not? For example, when you are applying for a job, sending an email to a valued company, knowing when it is opened is necessary information. If you want to really control your email, Sidekick is what you should check out.

Sidekick is developed by HubSpot, a software company formed by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006. This app is installed as a Chrome extension and can be accessed using your Gmail account. But don’t worry; Sidekick can also be accessed by Outlook desktop, Apple Mail and Outlook.com.

But, you should also know that Sidekick could be used against you. The next time you say, “I didn’t see that email,” when you actually have opened it, the sender may have proof that your statement just isn’t true.

Here’s everything this nifty addition can do:

To get started with Sidekick, you need to create a free account here. You can also login using your Google account, which is a convenient sign-up process. After that, you can install Sidekick Chrome extension from here.

Once everything is configured, Sidekick will take up the responsibility to track down which of your emails have been opened and which remain unopened. To make things more amazing, Sidekick also keeps track whether links inside the mail have been clicked on or not. You also have the option to ‘untrack’ any email too.

    sidekick

Sidekick can also show you the information of people to whom you are sending a mail. When you receive an email, the Sidekick sidebar will show you your email history, links to their social media accounts and information about their company if the email was sent from a business account.

    Sidekick-dashboard

But, the newest feature of this app is the Scheduling option. This is a gift especially for people who live in different time zones. After you have composed a mail, you will see an option to schedule the mail to whatever time fits you. Awesome, right?

    Schedule-Gmail-email

Sidekick also has free iOS and Android apps, which let you track everything from your smartphone. Although the scheduling feature is yet to come out with the mobile version.

Sidekick is free for unlimited tracking the first month you register. After that, you get 200 free tracks per month. If you find that you want unrestricted tracks, you can pay a monthly fee of $10.

It is great that slowly, many mail apps are coming up that give users the power to monitor and control emails as per their convenience.

Watch the video below to get a better idea about how Sidekick is helpful.

  • Top 10 Countries With the World’s Fastest Internet

Top 10 Countries With the World’s Fastest Internet

The internet is an absolute necessity for our generation. Everything we do, today, is connected to the Internet somehow or the other. For most of us, it is impossible to go through the day without scrolling through our Facebook feed or YouTube. With only a keyboard and mouse, we can access limitless amount of information.

But, with a slow Internet speed, there is nothing more irritating than waiting for a page to load. For the people living in the countries listed below, we’re guessing that they never have to use the word “buffer”.

Let us look at some countries with the fastest Internet connections:

    #10 Finland

This year, Finland had a tremendous growth with a 33% increase in its Internet speed. Undoubtedly, one of the wealthiest countries of Europe, Finland also boasts a high quality of life and education.

    Average Internet Speed: 12.1 Mbps

    #9 Czech Republic

    internet use
One of the developing countries in Europe, many people would argue that Czech Republic isn’t quite there yet. It’s simply not true. Czech Republic is one of the fastest growing European countries in the terms of economy. Just like its growth rate, the Internet facilities have developed by leaps in the past few years.

    Average Internet Speed: 12.3 Mbps

    #8 Ireland

    internet_users

Ireland has one of the fastest growing technology sectors in Europe. It has seen a growth of 24% in the last year.

    Average Internet Speed: 12.3 Mbps

    #7 Latvia

Latvia is perhaps the only country in this list, that many would never have heard of. This region has a rather dark past since was under, both, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union rule. But, it has been showing spectacular growth in all sectors. In the terms of Internet speed, Latvia has taken most of the countries by surprise. Internet speeds have grown 25% over the last year.

    Average Internet Speed: 13 Mbps

    #6 Netherlands

Netherlands is listed with Switzerland in holding the most broadband subscriptions per 100 subscriptions, has no bandwidth caps, and has the most homes passed in Europe in terms of connection speeds of 50 Mbps and higher. Government-mandated Internet censorship is non-existent due to the House of Representatives speaking out against filtering.

    Average Internet Speed: 14.2 Mbps

    #5 Switzerland

Switzerland, along with its beautiful landscapes, is also known for having one of the fastest Internet connections in the world. This country also boasts one of the highest number of Internet users in the world, with 85.2% of the population accessing the Internet every day.

    Average Internet Speed: 14.5 Mbps

    #4 Sweden

    internet

Moving up slowly, the Nordic nation of Sweden is also among the countries offering the highest internet speed. Sweden has best Internet speed in the whole of Europe, showing most year-over-year growth with 34 percent growth, 1 percent greater than next-door-neighbor, Finland. European countries surely have all the fun!

    Average Internet Speed: 14.6 Mbps

    #3 Japan

A customer looks at a web page of Qzone, a Chinese social networking site at an internet cafe in Changzhi, Shanxi province August 28, 2009. From virtual clothes to e-pets, Asians spend an estimated $5 billion a year on virtual purchases via websites such as Qzone, Cyworld in South Korea and mobile-phone based network Gree in Japan, according to Plus Eight Star. That's about 80 percent of the global market for virtual products, it says. To match feature ASIA-SOCIALNETWORKING/ REUTERS/Stringer (CHINA BUSINESS SOCIETY SCI TECH) CHINA OUT. NO COMMERCIAL OR EDITORIAL SALES IN CHINA

Known to the world as one of the leading digital giants, with companies like Sony, Toshiba, Nintendo, etc., fast Internet connections come naturally to this country. It maintains a reliable Internet speed that hardly seems to dwindle.

    Average Internet Speed: 15.2Mbps

    #2 Hong Kong

Another Asian country on the list, Hong Kong is first and only country that broke the 60 Mbps barrier back in 2013. This is due to advances in FTTH (Fiber To The Home) infrastructure and aggressive high-speed pricing, which now seems to be paying off.

    Average Internet Speed: 16.8 Mbps

    #1 South Korea

South Korea is the undisputed champion when it comes to Internet speed. The Internet connection here is so fast that the country is about to unveil its 10Gbps Internet service soon. The Internet has a higher standing for many Koreans than it does in the West, and the government actively encourages this. South Korea’s speed is roughly six times faster than the world average of 3.8 Mbps.

    Average Speed: 22.2 Mbps

    And the State Back Home..

Sadly, India comes in at number 52nd rank according to AkamaiTechnology in 2014 listing with an average speed of 2Mbps. But as a country, we are progressing at a great speed in the terms of economy and technology. With new businesses sprouting each day, the need for a connected economy has increased considerably. It’s time India should get high speed unlimited data plans.

  • Smartphone with a 10,000mAh Battery May Soon Be a Reality

Smartphone with a 10,000mAh Battery May Soon Be a Reality

These days, battery life is the most crucial aspect of a mobile phone. Sure, we were happy about the devices equipped with around 3,500 mAh battery packs, such as Lenovo P70, Lenovo A5000, Huawei Honor 6 Plus and Acer Liquid E700. We were impressed since these phones could survive more than a whole day’s use.

But, what if you get a chance to trade a few phone features for an extra dollop of battery life?

    ml-1

Yes, this feature may soon come very true. Rumours suggest that Chinese phone company, Oukitel, is currently working on a smartphone model with a battery pack that holds a substantial power of 10,000 mAh. Here’s the best part – it’s been said that the smartphone may even last an entire week of usage.

The phone has been leaked, and these pictures are all we have got for now.

    Oukitel-Smartphone

From the images, it seems that the new Oukitel device is a work in progress, and there has not been official approval yet from the company. But it would be great for many people to have the choice of a bulkier, longer-lasting device.

Till the phone becomes a reality, users will still have to settle with using portable external battery packs that give their devices a few extra hours to live.

  • This Might be the Easiest Way to Tell Your Friends You’re ‘Free’ to Hang Out

This Might be the Easiest Way to Tell Your Friends You’re ‘Free’ to Hang Out

On an odd Friday night, when you decide you’d rather spend the night in, you want some company to watch a movie or grab a quiet meal. What do you do? You don’t want to spam the handful of close buddies who might already have their plans set for the evening. Nor can you put up a status on a social networking site, lest a creepy acquaintance accepts your invitation and lands up to your door.

Well, here is a solution to that: the ‘Free’ App. This app shows you a list of your friends who are free. It will allow you to share your availability to coordinate easily and make plans with friends. Developed by Danny Trinh, a former lead designer at Path, a social app, he explains:

With smartphones, we’re more connected than ever—there’s Gchat, WeChat, Snapchat, Facebook Messenger, and more—but as connection has become the default, we’ve lost ways to announce, “I’m up to hang.” In a world where everyone’s online all the time, what’s the actual availability signal on top of that? That’s what we’re trying to build. Put another way, now that we carry chat on us at all times, the green dot is assumed.

Once downloaded, the app asks you to enter your number, register an account and provide your name, a username and your email address. You can set up your photo and use a given list of filters. The app then syncs your contacts.

    img_3184-png

You can let your friends, who might be nearby at that time, know that you are ready to go out (green), flexible (yellow) or busy at that moment (red).  However, for the app to work, you must enable location services on your phone. You can also attach a message, tag friends you are with and select a place and time, just like Facebook. Once you set up your first status, you have the option to choose which buddies to send it to and for how long they can see the message or status. These statuses go into Free’s feed that you can quickly flick through to all your friends’ plans, and disappear the next morning.

    press-phone

True, there are so many social networking apps right now, like Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. But the reason Free might win is that it cuts out the clutter to focus back on in-person communication. For now, the app is available only for iOS devices.

  • E3 2015 : Top 5 Gaming Trends You’re Sure to See in the Future

E3 2015 : Top 5 Gaming Trends You’re Sure to See in the Future

This year’s E3 brought a much needed rush for gamers. With titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Tom Clancy’s The Division, Street Fighter 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Gears of War 4, and much more, the upcoming months look incredible.

Along with interesting gaming title, we noted a few interesting gaming trends. Here’s a couple of things   we understood about the future of gaming from this year’s mega-event:

    Open World Design

    assassin creed syndicate
    Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

Since the original Elite pioneered Open World Design, most of today’s games are based upon free roam modes. But in E3 2015, we have seen a new high. We saw the usual games that are already based on free-roam like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Fallout. But, the open environment became even more massive than its previous installments.

    ghost recon
    Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Interestingly, linear games, too, have adapted to an Open World model. Previously, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Metal Gear Solid were all mission-based and required tactical stealth. But, what we see in Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is that both the franchise have retained the same type of gameplay, but is re-formatted into an open world context.

    Female Protagonists

    female players

We have seen a good number of games with standout female leads. Years ago, it was told that female characters do not sell games and are too time-consuming to draw out. But, this year’s edition of E3 proved to go against the statement. This year, we have Lara Croft, of course, and Faith in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. And with these established heroes came Horizon’s post-apocalyptic hunter, Aloy, Dishonored 2’s Emily Kaldwin, the scavenger in ReCore and Evie Frye in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. Many more games either star women or at the very least allow players to choose their gender.

    Pets

    metal gear sold 5
Metal Gear Solid V Snake with his companion wolf

Pets have been a part of gaming for a while now; it is just that it did not get much attention and was used as a prop. But, this is not the case in the future releases. We will see main protagonists with pets, and even robotic pets in some instances.

    the last guardian
Griffon-like creature called Trico in The Last Guardian

Snake from Metal Gear Solid V has a badass wolf with an eye patch. We also see a huge Griffon-like creature called Trico in The Last Guardian.

    Nature Vs Civilization

    ReCore
    Game still from Microsoft’s ReCore

Most of the games showcased in E3 2015 were based on nature or humankind destroying itself. Each game shows a post-apocalyptic world or on the verge of dying out, with nature triumphing over the human structural remains. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, Tom Clancy’s The Division are some of the examples of the trend.

  • The One App You Should Download for Easy, Quick and Safe Photo-Sharing

The One App You Should Download for Easy, Quick and Safe Photo-Sharing

Exchanging pictures and videos through emails or messaging apps comes with two problems – one is the procedure of attaching them, and two, sometimes, we are not sure if it is safe or not.

If you are one of those people who face the above dilemma, then ‘Shoot’ is the perfect app for you.

    shoot for windows

The app is developed by one of the famous companies that are best known for its torrent clientele, BitTorrent. Via Shoot, you can easily share your photos with your friends, regardless whether it is an iOS, Android device or a Windows Phone using QR codes for authentication. If you want to send some files to your friend, you can choose the file you wish to send and your phone will display a QR code. The person to whom you are sending the file to, the receiver, will have to scan the QR code, and the data will be transferred using the BitTorrent Sync Technology. Since Shoot is powered by the BitTorrent protocol, files move instantly between devices without going through the cloud, and hence they are less likely to be hijacked. Also, they are transferred faster, regardless of the network of the connected device.

You may say that we have Bluetooth and other messaging apps that do not require the hassle. Well, Shoot’s two main winning points are:

    • It is easy to send large batches of media files to several devices at one time. There is no limit on the quantity of files that can be moved using the Shoot app.
    • Privacy, since nothing goes up on the Cloud service. That is, the files are only being accessed by you and the recipient – the company’s servers aren’t acting like a middleman in the process. Data is shared directly instead of requiring files to be uploaded to a central server and then downloaded by the recipient.
    • BitTorrent Shoot doesn’t require the two devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network, which is a plus.

Erik Pounds, BitTorrent Sync’s VP of product management, explained:

If you’ve ever experienced a situation where you’re on iOS and a friend next to you has an Android phone, sending something like a big batch of photos or a long video is a challenge. We based the use case around spontaneity: You could be at a concert with friends, recording a video; on vacation with your family, taking tens/hundreds of pictures; maybe at a birthday dinner, capturing a group serenade.

You can download the app now directly from Google Play, Apple’s App Store, and the Windows Phone Store. Just for trial, you can send three files for free using Shoot. After this, you will be asked to pay a one-time fee of $1.99. Receiving is free. Though, this is how the app generates revenue (yes, Shoot does not show any ads.)

It will be interesting to see how QR codes work out in the future for exchanging data through different devices.

  • OnePlus 2 Will Not be as Affordable as the One

OnePlus 2 Will Not be as Affordable as the One

A while back, multiple sources cited that OnePlus would be hosting a mega-event in July, where the much-awaited OnePlus 2 would launch. However, recently, OnePlus ruled out all rumours and stated that the upcoming OnePlus 2 would be making its debut in the third quarter of this year.

As the release date draws closer, OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, himself is announcing the features of the smartphone, bit by bit. He has already confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will be loaded with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 under the hood. This processor is capable of streaming 4K Ultra HD videos, high-resolution 3D games and has an enhanced battery life. The forum also read that the overheating issue of the processor has also been resolved with the new version of the SoC.

I am proud to share with you that our eagerly-awaited OnePlus 2 will come loaded with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor, engineered for OnePlus and our next generation flagship phone. Just like we did with the OnePlus One, our engineers debated endlessly over which CPU would be the perfect fit for the 2.

Two months back, Pete Lau hinted the price of the OnePlus Two as roughly around Rs. 25,000. This is around Rs. 3,000 more than the original OnePlus One at launch. This may be because the Snapdragon 810 v2.1 costs 60% more than the Snapdragon used in the OnePlus One. A recent OnePlus blog reads that the 810 is much more powerful than its younger counterpart, the 801, and is a much more expensive component. Hence, according to the post, the minimum cost of the OnePlus Two will be higher than $322 (Rs. 20,500 approx.)

From what is known till date, the OnePlus 2 will sport a 5.5-inch 2K display and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 along with 4GB RAM. Rumours also claim that the device could have 16 or 64 GB of internal memory, 16 MP main camera, 5 MP front snapper, and a  Li-Po 3300 mAh battery. The OnePlus Two will run on Cyanogen OS, as the differences between Cyanogen and the Chinese smartphone firm have been settled, and the cases have been withdrawn by mutual approval. The addition of Cyanogen on the next OnePlus device might help drive the sales of the handset.

The affordable price of the OnePlus One was a key element in its success. However, if OnePlus manages to deliver a smartphone with top notch specs, a slightly higher price tag may not be a major deal breaker.

  • After the iPhone, the Apple Watch Might Soon be “Assembled in India”

After the iPhone, the Apple Watch Might Soon be “Assembled in India”

Narendra Modi’s Make in India campaign is growing at a steady pace. After companies like Celkon, one of the leading cell phone players and Mercedes-Benz have set up their manufacturing plants on Indian soil, Taiwan’s Quanta Computer Inc has commented saying that they are considering establishing their manufacturing plant in India. Quanta Computer Inc is one of the top laptop makers and assembly plant of Apple’s high-tech Apple Watch.

Quanta Vice President, C.C. Leung, said that the senior officials are gathering materials for evaluation and are considering the idea.

After Foxconn, Quanta is the largest maker of iPhones and iPads for Apple. Foxconn Technology, which is one of the world’s largest contract manufacturers of electric products, is trying to develop 10-12 facilities in India, including factories by 2020. The Taiwan-based tech giant said that the company is in talks to manufacture Apple iPhones in India. The move would help Foxconn decrease stimulating labour costs in China, possibly lower prices for iPhones sold in India and transfer the site of the manufacturing assembly closer to its buyers in the world’s third-largest smartphone market.

Quanta Inc has no present investment plans for now. Leung is examining several considerations like transportation convenience and access to ports in India. But, we hope for the best, as the initiative looks promising. It is understandable that many more companies will join in soon; creating job opportunities and improving the overall economic well-being of the masses.

    make in india

Make in India’ is an initiative that was started back in September 2014 by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The primary objective of this initiative is to create manufacturing firms within India to create more job opportunities and enhance the skills of the people of India across different sectors like automobile, aviation, biotechnology, defence manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, ports, railways, textile and much more. With this initiative, the Government of India hopes to bring in high-quality standards and minimise the impact on the environment.
