Lenovo Z5 Pro With Sliding Screen Teased Ahead Of Launch

Lenovo is known for their industrial grade Thinkpad laptops and not so much for their smartphones. But, the company has been trying hard to break in to the smartphone market and they have launched some robust smartphones like the K8 Note and the Z5. Recently, the Vice President of Lenovo, Edward Chang has shared a teaser of an upcoming smartphone on Weibo. The device is called the Z5 Pro which is the successor to the Lenovo z5.

    Lenovo Z5 Pro Teaser

The teaser shows a smartphone with dual front sliding cameras which look similar to the Xiomi Mi Mix 3 and has and edge-to-edge display. The poster states that the release is scheduled for 1st November which is just 6 days away. It also reads that the smartphone has a full view screen and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Lenovo claims that the Z5 Pro has a 100% screen-to-body ratio as it does not have a notch or speaker grill.

Previously an alleged video of the Z5 Pro was posted on Weibo which appears to be the same device seen in the official teaser. Detailed specifications of the Z5 Pro are not available but it will surely have better specs than its predecessor. For reference:

The Lenovo Z5 has a 6.2 inch Corning Gorilla Glass protected IPS display. The display has a pixel density of 402 ppi and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The Lenovo Z5 runs on the Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 SoC which is paired with 6/8 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, it is available in 64 / 128 GB ROM variants which are expandable up to 256 GB via a microSD card. The smartphone has dual 16 MP + 8 MP rear and an 8 MP front camera. • Lenovo Launches Watch S and Watch C Smartwatches

Lenovo Launches Watch S and Watch C Smartwatches

Lenovo had secured their position as one of the players in the smartwatch market with their Watch 9 and Watch X. With other companies already making a mark in this segment such as Motorola, Huawei and Apple. Lenovo has already been making fitness trackers for a while now, but with their latest announcement of the Watch S and Watch C they are trying to target a different class of smartwatch.

The Watch S sits between the Watch 9 and Watch X and costs around ¥238. It will be available in Red and Black dial and straps. The watch features a new dial design along with sapphire glass, and a calfskin leather band. Unfortunately there is a lot that is missing from the Watch S in terms of a heart rate sensor, blood pressure monitor etc. But it does have sleep tracking, calorie counting and tracker of the number of steps taken. It also misses out on an OLED dial but can notify the user of new notifications by vibrating. The watch is also 5 ATM water resistant. It will go on sale on Lenovo’s official online store on October 30 at 10 AM.

The more interesting of the two products that were announced, is the Watch C. It is a kids watch that has a 1.3-inch AMOLED display and is slightly rectangular in shape. Lenovo has included features that a kids watch should have like GPS tracking, calling between watches etc. The GPS tracking can be useful for parents to track their children in emergencies. With the help of a companion app, parents and guardians can set the location of their home and school and they will get notified when the child reaches a certain location. There is also an SOS feature available. Priced at ¥399, the watch will be available in Blue and Pink colours.

  • Lenovo Teases Z5 Pro With Quad Camera And 2x Telephoto Zoom

Lenovo Teases Z5 Pro With Quad Camera And 2x Telephoto Zoom

Lenovo might launch the Z5 Pro under the moniker S5 Pro. This phone might compete against the Xiaomi Mi A2 and Honor 8X in India. Very little is known of the cameras. One of the cameras will be telephoto and the other one will be a regular field of view camera but it is still not known what the other two cameras will be. It could be black and white, depth sensor, wide angle or even a super telephoto zoom.

The sudden name change is a huge reason for speculation. We feel that this was done to distant this model from the Lenovo Z5. The Z5 were left customers disappointed after a marketing campaign that hinted at a notch-less screen. The Pro however, has a notch-less all screen display. The selfie camera of the Z5 Pro is retractable and slides out. The phone will launch in China soon. It reportedly features Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by), Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by), Corning Gorilla Glass, Face ID and fingerprint scanner.

Lenovo posted sample shots taken from the Z5 Pro on a micro blogging site:

The phone also features an Adreno 512 GPU and has a 3300 mAh battery. Whats more, it will probably have a 3.5 mm audio jack as well. We quite liked the deep colours, the sharpness and the dynamic range of the images and cannot wait to get our hands on it for a full review.

  • Lenovo To Launch A Successor To The K8 Note

Lenovo To Launch A Successor To The K8 Note

Lenovo might be working on the successor of their very popular K8 Note. The K8 note was launched back in August 2017. The phone was feature packed and offered good value for money. Now a poster of a mystery Lenovo device has surface online. The poster reads “The Killer Returns”. It might be the successor to the K8 Note as it has been referred to as killer note previously on some forums. This could also be the Lenovo Z5 which has already been launched in China and is performing well in terms of sales.

    Killer Note Poster

    Lenovo K8 Note

The smartphone has a 5.5 inch display. It runs on the Mediatek Helio X23 processor along with a Mali-T880 GPU. It has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of inbuilt storage. In the camera department, it has 13 MP + 5 MP dual rear cameras and a 13 MP selfie camera with LED flash. It also has a fingerprint sensor. At the time of launch it had a price tag of Rs. 14,999 which has now come down to Rs 9,600.

    Lenovo K8 Note

The K8 Note from 2017 did well in terms of sales. But because of fierce competition from other Chinese companies like Xiomi and Oppo the sales saw a dip. These other Chinese companies have been launching smartphones with much higher specifications at very competitive prices.

Therefore, Lenovo now needs to come up with excellent smartphones at even better prices. The poster is one indication to an upcoming launch of a Lenovo smartphone. We can expect Lenovo to deliver a great package as such competition between the companies turn out to be best for the consumers.

The poster also gives us a date which is 16th Ocober 2018. However, for now we can only wait for the company’s official announcements.

You can also watch our unboxing for the Lenovo K8 Note.

  • Lenovo Teases Z5 Pro With 4 Rear Cameras, Possible Sliding Front Camera

Lenovo Teases Z5 Pro With 4 Rear Cameras, Possible Sliding Front Camera

Lenovo is going to launch a smartphone with four rear cameras and a possible sliding front camera. This exciting new device is the Lenovo Z5 Pro and has been teased by the Lenovo Vice President on Weibo.

The post, which appears to be an invite says the words “AI 4 Shot”. This means that the camera setup has AI integration which will boost the performance of the quad camera setup. The design is unique when compared to other devices. The four lenses are placed in four corners of a square while the LED flash is strangely positioned in the centre of the square. The square design has been used by Huawei in the upcoming Mate 20 Pro. But it uses only 3 cameras and completes the square with an LED flash.

Earlier leaks of the alleged Lenovo Z5 Pro showing the front panel of the device had surfaced. The leak shows a device which has a nearly bezel-less screen, without a notch. The front camera is accessed by sliding a part of the device upwards, manually. The sliding camera design will be seen in many upcoming devices such as the Honor magic 2 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. The video also shows the user accessing the device using an in-display fingerprint scanner, adding to the list of interesting features on the device.

The device is expected to be an upgrade from the Lenovo Z5 and might have a larger display. It is reported to run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.

More details about the device are not known, but the device is set to launch this month. The device is sure to stir up some excitement with its unique features and we might just see more of the Lenovo Z5 Pro in the coming few days.

  • Lenovo Z5 Running On Snapdragon 636, With An iPhone X Like Notch Launched

Lenovo Z5 Running On Snapdragon 636, With An iPhone X Like Notch Launched

Lenovo started teasing its revolutionary “all-screen” Lenovo Z5 a few weeks ago. The teaser images posted by Lenovo’s Vice President Chang Cheng painted a very rosy image of what the Lenovo Z5 might look like. However, the launch of the Lenovo Z5 revealed that the new smartphone doesn’t look all too different from many Android smartphones of 2018.

The Chinese smartphone maker claims that the Lenovo Z5 has thinner bezels compared to the Mi 8 and the iPhone X. The notch, as well, is smaller on the Z5 compared to the two smartphones. This is true but, it is also worth noting that both the Mi 8 and iPhone X have 3D facial recognition system. This means that the notch on these smartphones solves a purpose, while the notch on the Z5 only houses the necessary sensors and the front camera. The company claims that the Z5 has a 90% screen-to-body which is impressive.

The Lenovo Z5 is priced at CNY 1399 (Rs 14700 approx.) for 64GB storage variant and CNY 1799 (Rs 18,900 approx.) for the 128GB storage model. It goes on sale in China on 12th June at 10 am.

The Lenovo Z5 has a 6.2 inch IPS LCD display with a 2246 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into an 18.7:9 aspect ratio which is mainly because of the notch. The display has the DCI-P3 colour gamut and has a brightness of up to 700 nits.

Teaser Sketch Didn’t Reveal A Notch

Under the hood, the Lenovo Z5 runs on the Snapdragon 636 chipset. This chipset made its global debut with the Redmi Note 5 Pro and has since been used in devices like the Zenfone Max Pro as well. Coupled with the Snapdragon 636 will be 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of the smartphone and not under the display. This is another feature which was anticipated in the device.

Powering the smartphone is a 3300 mAh battery which will charge via a USB-C port and 18W fast charging support. The 45 days standby time is a software feature, just like we anticipated. Out of the box, the device will run Android 8.1 Oreo with ZenUI 3.9 on top. Lenovo did adopt stock Android last year for devices like the K8 Note but, has stuck to its custom skin for the Z5.

The back of the smartphone houses a vertically-placed dual-camera setup which is uncannily similar to the iPhone X and many other Android devices. Back when the iPhone X was launched, it was mocked for “lack of imagination” as the company barely changed the orientation of the dual-camera. However, here we are with almost every Android device now launching with a vertically-placed dual camera setup. It has a 16MP primary sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP secondary sensor. To the front is an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The Lenovo Z5 is, without a doubt, far from the promised land. It has features that every other Android device in 2018 possesses and the design as well, is no different from the likes of OnePlus 6 and Mi 8. There are no details about the smartphone launching in India yet, but, we do expect Lenovo to launch the Z5 in other markets as well.

  • Lenovo Z5 Renders Reveal A Bottom-Placed Front Camera And A Tiny Chin

Lenovo Z5 Renders Reveal A Bottom-Placed Front Camera And A Tiny Chin

Up until now, Lenovo’s VP has been our sole source of information about the Lenovo Z5. Chang Cheng has been actively posting bits and pieces of the Z5 that have so far impressed everyone. The launch of the smartphone is set for June 5th and we still don’t have any concrete leaks of the device. This is very unusual for a modern-day smartphone and proves that Lenovo is doing everything it can to keep the Z5 a secret. However, we do have a couple of press renders of the Lenovo Z5 giving us a clearer look at the soon to be launched flagship smartphone.

Must Read: Xiaomi Mi 8 Officially Launched With 3D Face Unlock

The renders posted on Weibo are in line with the teasers posted by Chang Cheng. The Lenovo Z5 will have a nearly bezel-less design with a tiny chin. Ever since the first teaser was released, there were speculations about the placement of the front-facing camera. Many believed that Lenovo would use a pop-up camera like the Vivo APEX, or some other unique implementation. This render appears to quash those claims as the camera is placed on the chin of the Z5.

This implementation is very similar to Xiaomi’s Mi MIX lineup. The Mi MIX devices have thin uniform bezels on three sides while all the sensors and the camera are placed on the slightly thicker chin. The Lenovo Z5’s chin is definitely thinner than any of the Mi MIX smartphones, hence, the company claims a whopping 95% screen-to-body ratio. It also appears that all the necessary sensors will be placed on the chin itself.

The earpiece is nowhere to be seen in the renders. This could mean that Lenovo has taken another hint from Xiaomi and gone the Mi MIX route for the earpiece. The renders again show that the Lenovo Z5 will have a stunning design albeit, an awkwardly placed front-camera. Whether this is the final design of the smartphone is yet to be seen. We expect more leaks and renders to surface online as we move closer to the launch event.

  • Lenovo Z5 To Launch With A Gradient All-Glass Design

Lenovo Z5 To Launch With A Gradient All-Glass Design

While the month of May has been exciting for smartphone enthusiasts, June isn’t looking too grim either. Lenovo is set to launch the Lenovo Z5, a highly anticipated flagship device from the company. Interestingly, we have not seen any sort of leaks pertaining to the Lenovo Z5 which is surprising for a modern-day smartphone. So far, Lenovo has taken the onus upon itself and hinted at a lot of interesting features of the device. In a new post on Weibo, the company gives us a glimpse of what the overall design of the smartphone will be.

Chen Chang, Vice President of Lenovo has been extremely expressive on his Weibo account and posted another photo of the Z5. This time, however, the attention is not on the front, but, on the back of the upcoming smartphone. The Lenovo Z5, according to the official render, will sport an all-glass design with an aluminium frame.

Another interesting feature of the smartphone will be its colour variants. The image shows a gradient colour variant which reminds us of the Twilight colour on the Huawei P20 Pro. The colours change depending on how the light reflects on the glass back which will help the device stand out from the sea of black and gold coloured smartphones.

The Lenovo Z5 has been teased to have a lot of features that can make it one of the best smartphones of 2018. According to a post on Weibo, the Lenovo Z5 will offer 30 minutes of talk time at 0% battery. This might seem like a claim too tall to be true, it is an official teaser and the company wouldn’t backtrack from the claims of its Vice President.

The company has already teased that the Lenovo Z5 could be the first smartphone to offer a 95% screen-to-body ratio. For context, the iPhone X as an 81.1% screen-to-body ratio. In another post, Chang claims that the Lenovo Z5 will have a massive 4TB onboard storage. It has also been confirmed that the Lenovo Z5 won’t have a notch which already means the device will have a different design compared to other flagship smartphones.

The launch is set for June 5th in China and it’ll be surprising if Lenovo doesn’t make the Z5 globally available. Considering the device could be a world-first in many aspects, we expect the company to showcase the device on a global stage.

  • Lenovo Z5 With 95% Screen-To-Body Ratio To Launch On June 5th

Lenovo Z5 With 95% Screen-To-Body Ratio To Launch On June 5th

Up until a few weeks ago, nobody anticipated that a Lenovo flagship device will be one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2018. The company has given us a few hints here and there about the Lenovo Z5 and so far, it looks very impressive. The launch date of the smartphone has now been confirmed by the company and we expect a few more details to be ousted before the unveiling. On its official Weibo account, Lenovo posted the event details which will be held in Beijing, China. The launch event will take place on 5th June 2018 at 2 pm CST (11:30 am IST).

Lenovo’s Vice President Cheng Chang has taken to Weibo to tease a lot of features of the soon to be launched Lenovo Z5. According to his latest post, the Lenovo Z5 will offer 30 minutes of talk time at 0% battery. This might seem like a claim too tall to be true, it is an official teaser and the company wouldn’t backtrack from the claims of its Vice President. We usually hit the panic button at 10% of battery and here, the Z5 will work even at 0% battery. There must be some sort of software optimisations done by Lenovo which will result in such a battery performance.

This, however, is not the only battery feature that is eye-catching. Cheng Chang recently revealed that the Lenovo Z5’s battery will last up to 45 days on standby.

The launch date is set and the anticipation around the Lenovo Z5 will only increase as we approach the date. The only caveat about the device could be its availability in countries other than China. However, if the company will deliver on all the promises so far, there is no doubt that Lenovo would want to showcase the Z5 in other major smartphones markets as well.

The Lenovo Z5 better be an amazing device because our expectations are rising with each passing day. The Chinese smartphone maker will launch the Z5 on 14th June in its native country and hopefully, bring it to global markets as well. Continuing his strategy of teasing one feature a day, Lenovo’s Vice President Chang Cheng has now teased another feature pertaining to the Z5’s battery performance.

According to his new post on Weibo, the Lenovo Z5 will offer 30 minutes of talk time at 0% battery. For context, the iPhone X as an 81.1% screen-to-body ratio. In another post, Chang claims that the Lenovo Z5 will have a massive 4TB onboard storage. A few days ago, Lenovo’s Vice President Chang Cheng shared a teaser image of the company’s upcoming flagship device on his Weibo page. The image revealed the top-left side of the smartphone which hinted at the fact that the device won’t have a notch. The bezels were also extremely thin. Cheng has again posted a teaser of the Lenovo Z5, revealing the bottom half of the smartphone.

There are rumours that the smartphone will have a flip-up front camera, something we saw at MWC 2018. The fingerprint sensor could have easily been placed at the back but, rumours claim the smartphone will have an in-display fingerprint sensor. However, considering how expensive that tech still is, we expect a rear-mounted fingerprint reader on the Lenovo Z5. The sketch also revealed the USB C port located at the bottom while the headphone jack is missing. It is possible that the company could place it on the top but, considering the industry-wide trend, we could see headphone jack-less Lenovo Z5.

Bit by bit, the Lenovo Z5 is being introduced to the world, and so far, the details look promising. The launch is set for June 14th and it’ll be interesting to see if this device will ever make its way outside China.

Every year, the smartphone industry is dictated by a trend. 2017 was all about the 18:9 aspect ratio and shrinking the bezels. In September 2017, Apple launched the iPhone X which had a different take on a “bezel-less” design and featured a notch. While the iPhone X was ridiculed in the beginning, it has since become the bestselling smartphone in the world and also inspired an industry-wide trend of 2018, notches. However, it appears that Lenovo won’t be a part of the herd and launch a truly bezel-less smartphone, the Lenovo Z5 this year.

He then posted a sketch of the smartphone which revealed extremely thin uniform bezels around the display. Cheng has again posted a teaser of the Lenovo Z5, revealing the bottom half of the smartphone.

The screen of the smartphone is off in the image so it is hard to make out the size of the chin. However, even in the image, the bezels look extremely thin and somehow, too good to be true. But, with such bold claims by the VP of Lenovo, it is certain that the company will deliver to those claims.

The launch of the Z5 is still over a month away. It’s becoming more likely that this could be the truly bezel-less smartphone we’ve all been waiting for. However, we can’t 100% sure until the smartphone has launched.
