5 Things Everyone Has Forgotten About the First iPhone

The first or the ‘original’ iPhone was launched eight years ago in June, 2007. Responsible for about 90% of the profit of the smartphone industry annually now, iPhone toppled major brands like Nokia and Blackberry from their stable position in the industry eight years ago. With the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus launch merely hours away, we decided to take a look at how the iPhone journey started for Apple. Here’s a look at what things looked like in 2007:

    Hardware and Operating System:

It was a first of the eight generations of iPhones, and was a GSM device. The operating system was iOS 1. The rest of the hardware included a processor of 412MHz,  RAM 128MB and 4GB internal storage.

    Influence:

It was the first break-through in the smartphone industry with its multi-touch display. It provided the template for pretty much all other smartphones that were developed over the subsequent years.

    How it all began.
    How it all began.

    Sales:

The fist iPhone sold about 270,000 handsets in its debut quarter in 2007. This is quite a contrast to the 74 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sold in the past holiday quarter.

    Camera:

As absurd as the idea might sound now, the iPhone had no front camera or flash less than a decade ago. It’s hard to imagine the existence of a smartphone in the mainstream tech world without the existence of selfies. Back in the day, an iPhone with a rear camera of barely 2 MP was enough to sweep customers off their feet.

     Siri:

Siri, the intelligent personal assistant is a feature almost synonymous with iPhones now. An iPhone without Siri isn’t an iPhone at all. Therefore, it does sound like a parallel reality when we realise Siri was introduced as an iOS application available in the App Store as late as April, 2010, about three years post the launch of the first iPhone in 2007. Yes, there was a time when iPhones existed minus a digital voice assistant.

  • Spec battle : YU Yunique vs Yuphoria

Spec battle : YU Yunique vs Yuphoria

Do you think Yu’s new Yunique is ready to compete with its own predecessors, leave alone the Chinese smartphone vendors that are currently raging in the Indian market? Let’s find out.

The Yuphoria had caused quite a stir in the market when it released and emerged competent enough to take over Chinese smartphone vendors such as Xiaomi. Yuphoria was priced at Rs.6,999 and came with some impressive specs and features.

It came with a 5-inch IPS HD display with 1280×720 pixel (294ppi) resolution and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64bit chipset and a 1.2GHz  Quad Core, ARM Cortex- A53 processor. . It also came protected by the Gorilla Glass 3 and charged with a 2,230mAh battery. It has a 2GB RAM space and 16GB internal memory which could be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card slot. On the camera front it came with an 8MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera.

Here is a quick spec comparison:

Now, for the phone that has just released today – Yunique.

The Yunique comes with a 4.7 inch display, IPS HD display with a 1280 X 720 pixels, 312ppi resolution. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragn 410 processor with a 1.2gHZ chipset and is run on the Android 5.1.

On the camera front it comes with an 8MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens and a 5MP front camera. It can even capture and record videos in full HD with a 1080p resolution at 30 fps.It has an internal storage capacity of 8GB with a 1GB of RAM and comes with 2000mAh battery. Other connectivity options include – Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 & 4G/LTE. This  phine is priced at Rs.4,999.

    Yunique 5

Now, if we compare the two smartphones, we see that the Yunique is not really an upgraded version of the Yuphoria. Yuphoria had offered a 16GB memory that could be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card along with a 2GB RAM, while the Yunique is offering just an 8GB internal memory with 1GB of RAM. One can compare the battery power and screen size too and see the same situation. However, the resolution in the Yunique is slightly better than the Yuphoria, but overall it seems to be not as exceptional, but that seems to be balanced out by its price tag, which is around Rs. 2000 lesser than the Yuphoria.

Now coming to the display, design and other internal aspects of the phone we can see that the exterior of the phone is made out of a rubbery plastic material which perhaps won’t slip out of your hand so easily.

While the UI is fully stock Android. Therefore, this phone barely has an bloatware or tweaks, thereby increasing the storage capacity of the phone overall.

    Yunique 7

However, they have added a special browser of their own, thought this should not be much of a problem.

    Yunique 6

In our initial impressions of the smartphone, the interface is pretty fast and responsive. However, we will have to check it out in detail to give you our final verdict.

13th October: The Pre-Order Date for LG and Huawei Nexus Phones

The tech world has been abuzz with the news of the Google’s new Nexus smartphones for which it has been working with LG and Huawei. Rumours are pretty much confirmed about these two new additions to the smartphone industry.

The smartphones are believed to be launching on the 29th of this month. However, Google has kept the buyers in the dark for a while regarding the date when they will be available for order. But lo and behold for there seems to be a date made public for this as well now. If rumours are to be believed, the new smartphones will be available for pre-order by the 13th of October. News about the shipping of the duo remains unknown.

The tentative date for the pre-order is about a fortnight post the assumed launch. This is fairly early than the previous Nexus launches in the past where there was a time gap of at least three weeks between the launch and pre-order dates. Let’s see if they choose to position the pre-launch sooner than usual this time, or if the buyers are in for a disappointment with a delayed pre-order date.

  • Yu’s Upcoming Smartphone ‘Yutopia’ Expected to Come With 4GB RAM

Yu’s Upcoming Smartphone ‘Yutopia’ Expected to Come With 4GB RAM

We’ve already reported that Yu Televentures is back with another announcement of a new phone that will be launched on the 8th of September. Now, we also know what it’s going to be called – the Yutopia.

    yuwtmk

Now, considering the fact that it is part of the YU series, the smartphone should be more or less within the mid-range. Yu had pleasantly surprised its users with the Yu Yureka Plus that was priced at Rs.9,999 with all the right specs.

If reports are to be believed, Yutopia will be competing with the OnePlus 2. This means it will come with higher specs and thereby a higher price. But, do not fret, since it shall still be within the mid-range phones.

    YU Yureka Plus 6

Further leaks also suggest that the Yutopia will come with a 5.2 inch FHD display, which will be powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-core MSM8994 SoC. As far as storage capacity is concerned this smartphone is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Apart from all this leaks also suggest that the Yutopia might also come with a 21MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera with a price tag of $315, which is approximately Rs.21,054. This price tag is perhaps not so ‘mid-range’ as we might have expected it to be, however, we must note that these are mere leaks and speculations.

Yu has already started sending out invites for its ‘the next wonder’ – Yutopia, that is set to launch on the 8th of September (just one day before the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus). So, watch this space for more details and updates about the new Yutopia. Let’s hope it’s as ideal as its name suggests.

  • New iPad Pro Might Come With a Keyboard and Force Touch

New iPad Pro Might Come With a Keyboard and Force Touch

Apple had launched its first generation 9.7 inch iPad in April 2010, followed by the iPad mini with a 7.9 inch display in October 2012. Now, according to reports, Apple is planning to launch the new iPad Pro with a 12.9 inch display this year, at their upcoming event on the 9th of September 2015.

    apple ipad plus

Further sources have suggested that the iPad Pro could have a 2732 x 2048 pixel resolution and might have design aspects similar to the iPad Air. 9to5mac says that the iPad Pro will “literally look like a big iPad.” Other design features say that it will also have an aluminum shell, a FaceTime and iSight camera.

This device is also expected to come with the Force Touch technology, that Apple is planning to introduce in the next set of iPhones – iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. This is what 9to5mac says about the new iPad Pro:

“The stylus will open up the door to enhanced drawing and design apps on the new iPad, and the integration with the Force Touch screen will allow the stylus and the iPad Pro to work differently based on the levels of pressure applied by the stylus to the iPad’s display.”

Apple is apparently designing the iPad Pro to be compatible with a Bluetooth keyboard and is also allegedly working on a revamped keyboard accessory for the iPad Pro. However, there is no further information on this front, and we’ll just have to wait for the 9th of September to see what Apple Inc. has to offer us this time.

  • Top 5 Rumours About the New iPhones We Hope Come True

Top 5 Rumours About the New iPhones We Hope Come True

Barely two days away from the iPhone launch, we found a way to channelise our anticipation through a list of rumours about the new gadgets. Brace yourselves for here it comes- the top five rumours about iPhone 6s and 6s Plus we hope come true:

    Durability:

According to several sources, Apple is looking to reduce the thickness of its already delicate smartphones. Yes, post the “bendgate” issue last year, this might not sound like the smartest choice to make, but the good news around the new iPhones’ construction is the use of 7000 series Aluminium, which is stronger and more resilient. You can also expect Apple to reinforce the iPhones with a stronger inner structure.

    Processor/Interface:

If rumours are to be believed, the new iPhones are expected to be equipped with a 3-D Force Touch interface, along with an A9 processor and 2 GB of RAM. This new gen-next technology, when coupled with iOS 9 of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, is expected to make things a lot smoother and more convenient for iPhone users.

    Internal and External Components:

The images so far have revealed an iPhone 6s logic board with components such as the rear shell and battery, both of which enable the device to display a screen showing a gear icon. The video shows us the boot up process, logic board, LTE baseband modem and its radio frequency transceiver chip.

    Price:

If the information provided by Tech Tastic, a Dutch blog is to be believed, the new iPhones are expected to cost as much as their predecessors. The iPhone 6s is presently said to arrive at 699 euros which is Rs.52,084 approximately, for the 16GB version. The 64GB version is said to be 799 euros which is Rs.59,529 approximately, while the 128GB version might be 899 euros which is Rs.66,980 approximately.

    Camera:

Just two days ago iGyaan reported about the camera quality of the two new iPhones which is likely to get a 400% boost. One hopes the front and the rear camera are as improved as Apple has led us to believe. The former is expected to be 5 MP while the latter, a decent 12 MP.

Now that the countdown has already begun for the launch on 9th September, watch this space for the latest updates.

  • Canon’s New Camera to Have a 250 MP Sensor

Canon’s New Camera to Have a 250 MP Sensor

In what seems like tremendously pleasing news for them photography aficionados, Canon has made a camera equipped with a 250-megapixel (19,580 x 12,600) APS-H CMOS sensor. APS-H is a notch bigger than the APS-C commonly found in consumer DSLRs. By making a first of its kind gadget, the Japanese brand has managed to create a lull in the megapixel warfare of the circuit, for now.

With the ability to capture text on a plane eleven miles away, the company proposes the use of the camera for security and surveillance. Other than photography, the sensors are developed enough to capture videos around 30 times sharper than 4K at five frames per second. Equipped with a fast signal readout speed of 1.25 billion pixels a second, this is definitely big news for sensor technology.
