The Motorola Fire and Fire XT have gathered a lot of attention, especially considering the price of these devices and the fact that both run Android 2.3 from the boot. Check out our version of the Unboxing of the Motorola Fire and the Hands on Images below.
Remember we posted the first images of the A85 back in June with an update of confirmed specs earlier this month. Now some official press shots of the device have come into play confirming the shape and specs of the device. The device will be finally called the A85 Superfone as indicated by the images.
The images also confirm the 5MP autofocus camera on the back of the device along, unfortunately there is no flash led. Back seems to be rubberized metal constructionn but we really cant comment on the device before we get a hands on.
Our Source had earlier given the following confirmed specs:
A Tegra 2 Processor with Geforce8
Android 2.3 Gingerbread
1 GHZ dual core – 2 x Arm Cortex A9 processors
512 MB RAM- 8 Gb onboard storage
3.8 inch screen with 480×800 pixel resolution

It appears that intelligent illumination will be within the camera and not using a flash led. Pricing speculation remains between 15500-18500 we still have no confirmed reports.
We are trying to get a hands on with the device, you can expect it soon.

We have got some exclusive news for those hoping to get in on the HTC Rhyme action (launched earlier today in the US). We have got exclusive inside new that the device will launch in India as early as November 1st week and latest by end November – no confirmed dates yet.
But one thing we have heard since the past 5 hours is the price : we are hearing a 14,599 price at launch ( sounds brilliant for the device.) along with additional 499, 1899, and 2099 for the charm, bluetooth headset and desktop speaker respectively.
Thats more information than we expected at this stage anyway, This info also comes from a very reliable source who has snitched to us since the launch of the Desire HD last year.
What is pushing the iPhone to the top of the world?what causes the low supply and large demand? We say its basic rules of economics learnt in High School, to make the demand of a commodity more, the supply needs to be regulated. This time around anticipation of the next Gen. iPhone is higher than ever. With reports of a cheaper variant of the iPhone 4 looming, most users are delaying their cellphone purchases indefinitely.
The iPhone since its launch in 2007 has been the number one smartphone in terms of market share in sales. This has happened not only due to innovations in technology but also because of the fact that Apple is extremely smart when it comes to marketing the device. The first true capacitive touch phone, with the first true capacitive input OS. The first app store that revolutionized apps on a mobile platform. Everything along the smartphone business, Apple has changed the way we use our devices. Today companies like Micromax, Videocon and other budget phone manufacturers are eating off the profits of the Apple name.
Micromax even launched an AD-Campaign for the A70 stating “I can afford this Phone – emphasis on iPhone”. People often take the iPhone as a flagship and compare other devices with that. Sure there are hardcore Android fans and I am one of them, in-fact i love all OS types. For the sake of iGyaan I need to possess flagship devices from all platforms, yet if given the choice i will always choose my iPhone.
Over 90% of the total questions we receive at iGyaan ask us to compare simple Android phones with the fluidity of the iPhone, The answer always has been till now – no other device can match the responsiveness of the iPhone. Yes it crashes, yes you hate it, yes its closed, yes “Bharat is an ex-Apple man”, But it doesn’t change the fact that not only does the iPhone have the best resolution display till date, unmatched by any manufacturer,it also has the most fluid OS in the world. This device is meant to be touched and it only relies on that. No matter what hardware you stuff behind the touchscreen of the device, 2x Quad core processors for all we care, untill you iron out the lag between screen swipes, we prefer iPhones.
Apple is also a brand of the youth, it has always been. PCs have been boring for a very long time, since the beginning of computer time. Apple has been always loved by the youth, creative people, writers, artists, web designers, graphic artists and all new forms of young professionals love Apple and the ease of use of the OS and all the softwares around it. All non tech related ads have people using Apple computers in them, this is nothing but passive marketing for Apple and most non technologically sound people love it(that includes more than 90% of the global pop FYI) .
Not to forget the constant mis-marketing by websites like iGyaa ( if only Apple paid us a dollar for every-time we wrote their name on our website) feeds to the brains of technology loving people young and old alike (yes you reading this). People are constantly being hypnotized to believe that the iPhone is mother-ship and every thing else is nothing in-front of it. Althought that is so not the case.
So why is the iPhone now the most sought after phone? Despite its high price and low tech specs, most will still prefer it over their juiced up Android device. If an iPhone 4 was to be available at say 19 Thousand Indian rupees / 350-400 US$, you will see the likes of eBay and craigslist full of second hand Android phones and Blackberries. The new iPhone 5 in recent surveys has been on more than 30% peoples waitlist, that is more than 3 times of the next best OS = Android which stacks in at a mere 9.4% in the list of “My next phone”.
The iPhone 5 is coming and people are waiting for it anxiously, so are we. The device whether a major change or minor, will cause people to queue up and wait outside stores for weeks. It will also cause some people to sell their kidneys and some to be highly disappointed with its not so impressive upgrades. The only question that now remains is
HAVE YOU DELAYED YOU NEXT SMARTPHONE PURCHASE IN ANTICIPATION OF THE NEXT IPHONE?
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro Sk17i is just a little marvel, with little being the key word. The device is a recent attempt by Sony to Prove in certain countries that they too can make great phones at decent prices.
We took in the Xperia Mini Pro with a lifted eyebrow, wondering why in the world would one carry a mini fat phone. But as days passed, the device suddenly changed our opinion and Ranked amongst the best devices in out list.
Build Quality
The Xperia Mini Pro is built in a wonderful shell with a great slider mechanism. The black back cover is soft rubber touch and feels great in the hand, the slider is smooth as butter yet snaps into place like the phones in the original Matrix movie. The front display has an anti scratch coating and the buttons are clickety and tactile offering great feedback and impressive control.
Talk Time: Up to 5 Hours 40 Min (2G) Up to 5 Hours 25 Min (3G)
Multimedia and Camera
The Camera on the Xperia Mini Pro Sk17i is good for a 5MP camera, it does not have a rear illuminated CMOS sensor, but it does feature a quick focus shutter and nice depth of color. Pictures can be composed with great detail. The camera also focuses pretty good on close objects in macro mode.
Sample Images
The video capture is what one can call “so-so” we were not to impressed with the video quality , the video was grainy in bright sunlight and not to mention the infamous red halo in the middle of the video capture. See our Sample Below.
The display is possibly the best display you can buy for the price. We are so impressed with the Mobile Bravia Engine Reality Display, that we feel the price of the device should be enough for the display by itself. Stunning image showcase and HD video playback on the screen, although the pixel density is fairly lower compared to other devices, you can hardly notice the lack of pixels. The gaming and video playback is smooth and vivid, not forgetting the 1GHZ Snapdragon procession that plays a major role.
Audio playback is satisfactory and up to the mark, we didn’t expect more than what SE delivered and got just that. Earphones however are excellent and deliver great sounding music.
Phone and Messaging
The device has had mixed reviews when it came to phone quality. Lets not get confused here, the device is an excellent phone, Network is strong, zero to none when it comes to dropped calls, and great connectivity throughout. The problem lies in the earpiece – Although the unit we received has no problems what so ever, A lot of users have emailed us telling us about the Xperia Mini Pro’s Static noise in the earpiece.
In a case like that Sony Ericsson is obligated to fix your problem and a service centre is obligated to provide you with the right resolution. Or even a Refund/ Replacement if the case arises. So ensure you fight your case and hang on to the warranty booklet and present it to your service provider stating the policy.
In either case, such problems are not easily resolved in out Brilliant democracy, so we tend to consider this ear piece problem ( which we haven’t faced incidentally) a downside.
Messaging on the other hand is awesome on the new butter slide QWERTY magic that pops out from the side of this mini genius. The keyboard is fast and fun to use, very very tactical and offers great feedback along with the clickety sound. Alternatively you have the new Gingerbread Keyboard with pull handles and the works. In both cases the keyboard is marvelous and does its job whether you are messaging or emailing, or simply browsing the Web.
Internet and Hotspots
The device has a silky smooth experience when it comes to surfing the inter-webs. The browser with its subtle yet responsive Kinetic scrolls, Accelerometer, and full flash capabilities rocks the cell phone stratosphere. Video streaming and flash games run well on this device and turns out to be an overall performer.
The device also features a portable WiFi Hotspot feature, which enables users to share the devices 3G connection with unto 5 connected devices.
Battery
Be prepared to charge your device several times if you are an Internet Hoe. The device sucks the juices from the power source when on 3G lasting only a couple of hours at the most. Talktime ranges from 3- 5.5 hours depending on how you use the device otherwise dusting that period , stand by time on the other hand runs into days. 3-4 days to be precise.
If you are using Wifi constantly the device lasts 8 hours, but on 3G the device can only do 3- 3.5 hours. Turn on the Portable hotspot and see your battery die out in a couple of hours tops.
TimeScape
The new Timescape UI gives this device a lot of flare and panache, adding interactivity and a clean interface to the otherwise splashy Android UI. With lots of customization features and layouts the Xperia Mini Pro SK17i can really become custom for each user. The addition of custom apps and features from Sony is welcome too.
Conclusion
The device is a great mix for a user, Great multimedia and hardware specs, excellent display and Mobile Bravia Engine, not to mention the slide out keyboard. The device features Android 2.3.4 with Timescape, a 1GHZ processor and 512 MB of Ram. There is really not much more one can ask for. Sure there are the few problems, the red tint in camera ( which we don’t mind) the earpiece problem ( which we don’t have, but know that a lot of these device have) and poor battery on 3g data use ( well, Android is known for that )
We really can’t think of any QWERTY Touch slider that does better, Oh and did i forget to mention the device also has the Nexus S TV animation, during display power off, as standard.
Nikon recently introduced the new S9100 Camera in India, we go hands on. But, before we can do that Bharat unboxes and shows off the unit in full glory. The camera has a wonderful set of hardware specs and is not too heavy on the pocket considering the quality it brings to the table.
Its been almost 2 full years since the announcement of the 20$ Tablet for the Indian market which has come and gone into release cycle time and again. From changing vendors to dropping manufacturers,Why is Kapil Sibal good at making excuses?
The tablet deemed to be an Indian product from the core, yet manufactured in China? HCL was the first company to refuse the manufacture of this tablet soon to be followed by Wipro, Satyam and others. The manufacturers all possibly gave up on the possibility of such a device, why make it impossible for a device to exist, and if you launch one 3 years later what is the point anyway.
A year ago a touchscreen tablet with Android 2.1 and a resistive touchscreen made sense, the recent news showed a device with a capacitive screen and other bits such as WiFi and USB ports etc. Also news upped the OS to Android 2.2. But is it really happening ? The usual bits are in place and excuses follow. The govt. gave a grant of several hundred crore to the project, an undisclosed amount, but to our dismay we could neither get details of the grant or what actually happened to the device.
A tablet that has touchscreen, WiFi and Android may or may not be able to educate the kids of today. But will definitely be a source of entertainment to them. low price- large screen Angry Birds anyone? There goes the education system down the drain.
Post this discussion the biggest question remains : whether or not the device would be even capable of playing Angry birds? Imagine you pull on the bird and it just gets stuck in mid air!
When we tried to contact Mr. Sibal’s office to get a comment, we got a polite reminder of how the country’s politics are more important
Abhi Anna Hazare is taking too much time!, whatever the Govt. wants to do-will do. You please mind your own business”
-Refused to tell us name – Assistant at Kapil Sibal’s Office
Why does “Anna Hazare” have anything to do with the Launch of a tablet that was supposed to happen last year. If anything the protests should speed up the process not slow it down.
Fortunately for us China is a wonderful country and many companies have started to bring in tablets in the price range of 5-10 thousand rupees. The HCL and Beetel Tablets cost 10,000 and the Reliance tab costs 12,999. With pricing already dropping daily, we can expect a good 2000-3000 tablet before the govt. even begins to allot this “Ration” based tablet. Which will probably end up going to “Politician and Family” as Diwali Gifts.
Here is a “Poof” to the Sakshat Tablet for India. Come on Mr. Sibal we expect a better result with a IT oriented country.
We got our hands on the brother of DV6 6017 tx that we Unboxed and Reviewed earlier. The HP DV6 6121TX adds few major upgrades and does not affect the price of the computer.
iGyaan is presently in the UK, testing of real life technology, and the first thing we bumped into as soon as we got out of the airport were these GE electric car charging posts. Its always good to talk about technology but only better to see it in real person in a country that embraces good technology infrastructure.
While its no GE WattStation , The mechanics of this one are simple, the person with a NFC tag or a Electric car tag will scan his tag in from to the charging post, which access you account and opens the door to the cable, the charging cable is then attached to the vehicle and the meter starts to run. At the end of the charge cycle the amount on the meter is charged to the NFC account or Electric car tag and you are ready to leave.
The good thing is that the UK government has installed these at various parking spaces in and around london making it easier for people with electric cars.
