  • Google Sold More Than One Google Home Device Every Second Since October

Google Sold More Than One Google Home Device Every Second Since October

On the 4th of October, Google took to stage to launch the Pixel 2 devices along with the highly anticipated cheaper version of the Google Home, called the Google Home Mini. As much exciting the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices were, the Home Mini and the Home Max really caught people’s attention. Even though Amazon really opened up the smart speaker market with its line of Echo speakers, Google appears to be the company that has benefited from the surge in demand for more smart home tech.

    Google Home Mini

In a blog post, Google announced the success of its ‘Home’ lineup:

So it’s no wonder we’ve sold tens of millions of all our Google devices for the home over this last year. And in fact, we sold more than one Google Home device every second since Google Home Mini started shipping in October.

    [amazon_link asins=’B071NB4PGV’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’ab6d61d0-f2a4-11e7-8545-8583a883cf2e’]

2017 was an important year of Google’s hardware, and where the Pixel 2 devices failed to meet the soaring expectations, the Google Home devices have been extremely well received. Before October od 2017, Google had one speaker, the Google Home which was sounded okay, but, wasn’t really affordable and the Amazon Echo Dot was available for less than half its price. Before the October launch event, there were rumours that Google will launch an Echo Dot competitive and so it did. The Home Mini was launched at a price of US $49 (Rs. 3,100 approx.) and came down to as low as US $20 during the holiday season.

Amazon Echo Dot Is Now Available In India

While the Home Mini was for people who were just starting out with the whole smart home setup, the Google Home Max was for people who didn’t mind spending a lot of extra cash for a special sounding smart speaker. While the Home Mini, shaped like a doughnut can easily gel with your furniture and not attract a lot of attention, the Home Max is massive and will grab a lot of attention because of how it looks. It is also priced at US $399 (Rs. 25,000 approx.) which is definitely pricey for a smart speaker. Google Home Max has two 4.5-inch woofers with tweeters covered by a fabric speaker grill. It features touch controls, supports Bluetooth as well as Google Cast and has a 3.5mm audio jack.

    Google Home Max

It also appears that more Google Assistant-powered devices are on the cards as CES rolls around:

And next week, we have even more things in store for the Assistant at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. If you’re at CES, stop by the Google Assistant Playground (Central Plaza-21) to check out some of our new integrations, devices, and the newest ways you can use your Assistant.

While the Pixel 2 devices had their stumbling blocks due to both hardware and software shortcoming, the Google Home devices, especially after that initial hiccup have been rather successful for the company. There is still no word from the company about the Google Home devices being launched in Asian markets such as India. But, with Amazon introducing its three Echo speakers in India, Google Home devices might not be too far away either.

  • LG Launches Its First Ever 4K Projector

LG Launches Its First Ever 4K Projector

Companies usually wait for CES to launch new and exciting pieces of technology. LG, however, appears to be in no mood to wait for this year’s CES, as it has launched its first ever 4K projector, the HU80KA. LG claims the new UHD projector is almost half the size of its competition in the market and unlike other projectors which are “heavy, expensive, and difficult to install,” this one from LG is better.

LG is calling the HU80KA an “affordable, yet premium” 4K projector which can output a 150-inch picture on any wall in a house. The picture from this machine can get really bright as well, and the company claims that the HU80KA maxes out at 2500 lumens, which makes it the company’s brightest projector yet and puts it on par with what’s on the market today.

As far as positioning of the projector is concerned, it can be placed on the floor, mounted on the wall, or hung from the ceiling. Along with 4K resolution, there is also support for HDR video with HDR10. Just like a lot of other LG TVs, the projector runs WebOS, so most of the big streaming apps will come integrated out of the box. For sound, the projector has two 7-watt speakers built-in which might be enough depending on the room the projector is placed in.

LG has not revealed the price of the HU80KA yet which means that the rest of the details like price and availability will be revealed at CES 2018 which will take place from the 8th of January in Las Vegas.

  • Apple AirPods Account For 85% Of The Total Truly Wireless Earphones Sales In The US

Apple AirPods Account For 85% Of The Total Truly Wireless Earphones Sales In The US

The new trend of truly wireless earbuds has been dominated by Apple’s infamous AirPods in the US. According to NPD Group, the Apple AirPods, which launched last year along with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus account for 85% of the total wireless earbuds sale in the American market.

Apple AirPods launched with Apple’s W1 chip which let the users seamlessly interact with their iPhones using the earbuds. People already a part of the Apple ecosystem saw the convenience of having the AirPods and decided to look past the appearance of the earbuds which was heavily panned during the time of its launch. “With a use case centering on frictionless access to Siri and other tasks initiated by voice, AirPods really act as an extension of the iPhone,” Ben Arnold, Industry Analyst wrote in the research note for NPD Group.

Apple’s decision to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year was met with widespread scepticism as majority of smartphone users still use wired headphones and headphone makers had not yet entered the realm of lightning post or USB C headphones. The AirPods was Apple’s solution to that and an indication that Apple is well and truly on its way to make a port-less iPhone. The ease of connecting the AirPods to your Apple devices proved decisive in its record sales in the past year, even though there are better sounding headphones at a cheaper price available in the market.

Following Apple’s footsteps, a lot of big companies like Samsung and recently, Sony released their versions of the truly wireless earbuds and prolific headphone makers like B&O have also entered the premium earbuds market. A report by Gartner revealed that the sales of truly wireless earbuds will hit the 150 million sales mark in 2017. This suggests that people have definitely formed a liking for these earphones and are confident of not misplacing them within a week!

The desktop supercharger does exactly what the name suggests. It sits on your desktop and has a USB port so that you can connect any USB cable and charge anything you want. • Apple Pushes The Launch Of HomePod Smart Speaker To Early 2018

Apple Pushes The Launch Of HomePod Smart Speaker To Early 2018

The holiday season is a time when companies try to push their marquee products into the market to take advantage of an average consumer’s spending spree. Apple Inc however, has decided to evade this season and wait till early next year to launch its much awaited foray into the smart speaker industry. HomePod, the Siri powered smart speaker which was unveiled back in June will start shipping to the US, UK and Australia in only early 2018.

The smart speaker industry has become more competitive this year and launching a first smart speaker at the end of 2017 was already a but late from Apple. Amazon’s Echo lineup and Alphabet Inc’s Google Home speakers have been dominating the market and with a price tag of US $349, the HomePod already have a stiff competition from its own price tag.

Amazon Echo Dot Retails For US $49

Bob O’Donnell, founder of Technalysis Research, said, “Apple has forecast between $84 billion and $87 billion in revenue for the holiday – mostly driven by sales of its $999 iPhone X – so it’s unlikely that missing a few weeks of sales of its $349 speaker will affect its financial results.”

AI Assistants are more used in smart speakers than phones. Even if the majority of Echo or Google Home users own an iPhone, it is highly likely that they’re talking to Alexa or Google Assistant more than Siri.

Google Home Mini retails for US $49 as well

Another big responsibilty on the shoulders of the HomePod is Apple Music. The rival smart speakers play music from Spotify, even though Google and Amazon have their own music streaming services. The HomePod however, will not have this option and will drive more people to subscribe to Apple Music and the rise of rival Spotify.

  • Dyson Enters The Indian Market With Three Products

Dyson Enters The Indian Market With Three Products

Excelling in creating intelligent machines, Dyson is UK-based tech company which was founded in 1987 by Sir James Dyson. He is still the Chief Engineer and Chairman of Dyson. Dyson holds 7,500 patents worldwide and is focused on combining hardware, software and algorithms to make intelligent machines which understand their environment and how to improve it.

The company has now ventured into India by launching three new products – The Cord-Free Vacuum, Supersonic Hair Dryer, Pure Cool Link Air Purifier.

    Cord-Free Vacuum Cleaner

In India, household dust is an ongoing issue caused by increasing construction, deforestation, dry weather, industrial activity, vehicles and fuel.  The current methods of household cleaning in India are ineffective as sweeping, mopping and dusting merely re-distribute microscopic dust rather than capturing it. It weighs only 2.6 kilograms and can easily be transformed into a hand vacuum cleaner.

The Cord-Free Vaccum Cleaner from Dyson is a bagless cleaner which doesn’t lose suction as more dust gets collected. The V8 Cord-Free Vacuum Cleaner is built on three core Dyson technologies –

    • Dyson Motors – The batteries used in the vacuum cleaner enable it to provide powerful suction from a motor placed in the hand, which results in versatility in terms of usage of the vacuum unlike many other machines that use a bulkier motor placed near the floor, creating a heavier machine that cannot be as versatile.
    • Dyson batteries – The batteries used in the vacuum cleaner give about 40 minutes of fade-free usage on one charge. Fade-free suction means that the suction starts strong and stays strong throughout the entire duration of the cleaning period, with no drop-off as the remaining runtime decreases.
    •  Two-Tier Radial cyclones are key to the dust separation and retention in Dyson cord-free vacuums. 15 cyclones, arranged across two tiers, work in parallel to increase airflow and capture fine dust from the airflow flinging it into the clear bin.

In the UK, it is priced at GBP 599. In India, we expect it to be priced 10% higher at Rs 60,000 (approx.).

    Supersonic Hair Dryer

The Supersonic Hair Dryer uses Dyson’s V9 DDM ( Dyson Digital Motor) at its core for all the functions. The motor has a tiny machined-aluminium axial-flow impeller and sensorless algorithm intelligence that can make up to 1,900 adjustments a second. It moves over 13 litres of air per second through an aperture just 27 mm in diameter.

Conventional motors use carbon brushes, which eventually wear out and throughout their life time give off carbon-dust emissions. These emissions pollute the air and the carbon brushes eventually wear down, making the motor redundant.

The DDM is a brushless or a switch reluctant motor. In a brushless (or switch reluctance) motor, switches rapidly alternate the electric current in order to create magnetic fluxes that make the iron rotor lying at the heart of the motor spin – the faster the switching sequence, the more motor revolutions per minute (rpm).

In the UK, it is priced at GBP 399.99 and the price in the Indian market could be Rs 34,000 (approx.).

    Pure Cool Link Air Purifier

Out of the 100 most polluted cities in the world, India has 33, while 22 of the top 50 most polluted cities are also in India. Delhi recently overtook Beijing as the most polluted city in the world. This kind of environment begs for good air purifiers which more than just fills up your rooms.

Dyson Air Multiplier draws in small amount of air to produce high-velocity airflow. Using powerful Air Multiplier technology and an energy efficient DC motor, the Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier draws in air via a mixed flow impeller. The air is passed through a 360° Glass HEPA filter and an additional layer of activated carbon granules. Purified air is then passed over an air foil shaped ramp and leaves the loop as a high velocity long-range stream of air.

Dyson claims that the Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier’s filter has been pleated over 200 times, meaning it can remove 99.95% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.1 microns from the air.

In the UK, it is priced at GBP 599.99 and the price in the Indian market could be Rs 60,000 (approx.).

While there are good Type C headphones in the market now, same cannot be said about lightning headphones. Apart from the earpods that Apple provide in the box, there aren’t many lightning headphones in the market to convince a consumer to switch.

That’s where this accessory comes in handy. The dongle has a sturdy build and doesn’t add much weight to the iPhone making it portable and comfortable. It comes with a small carrying pouch so that you remember to put the dongle back in it and not forget it elsewhere.

It retails for Rs 7999 but, it is available Rs 4999 on Amazon right now.
