  • Xiaomi Working On A Smartphone With A Quad-Edge Display

Xiaomi Working On A Smartphone With A Quad-Edge Display

Xiaomi has been very successful lately. Its philosophy of giving great specs at an affordable price has resonated with the audience. But it is not really known to innovate, but rather is seen as a follower in technologies. But lately, Xiaomi is trying to catch up with some unique ideas of its own. Be it the Mi MIX 3’s manual slider and also the 48MP camera in the budget Redmi Note 7, Xiaomi is trying to differentiate itself. Patents filed by Xiaomi for a smartphone with a Quad-Edge display have been found.

The patent was filed on February 5, at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). The patent shows a full screen smartphone with a dual camera on the back. The idea of edge screens was started by Samsung with its Note Edge. Today, the Galaxy S and the Note series is available with a Dual edge display.

This patent shows a Quad-edge display, meaning display curved on all sides. This could mean that Xiaomi is working on a smartphone with this feature and also has figured out the technology.

Xiaomi Smartphone With A Quad-Edge Display

The patent images filed by Xiaomi show an all screen smartphone, without any buttons and just a Type-C port. There is no headphone jack, speaker or even an earpiece in sight. The smartphone could also be using the technology used in Meizu Zero or the Vivo Apex 2. The phone shows a dual camera at the back and no camera or fingerprint sensor in sight at the front. The fingerprint sensor can be embedded in the display. About the selfie camera, maybe Xiaomi has figured out how to put one inside the screen.

Indian Smartphone Market Grew 10% In 2018. Xiaomi Still Maintains No. 1 Position

The Indian smartphone market is a very competitive one. Being one of the biggest smartphone markets in the world, it is natural that everyone wants a piece of the pie. The problem with that is increased competition in the space. There are a lot of players competing in the market and everyone is trying to come out on the top. But according to research by a well-known analyst firm Canalys, the Indian smartphone market grew by 10% in 2018 over the previous year. The company that took the most advantage out of it, was Xiaomi, which claimed the No.1 spot in shipments.

According to the research, Xiaomi saw shipments of around 41 million shipments over 25.7 in 2017. The brand saw its market share soar from 20.6 in 2017 to 29.9 last year. The second place is occupied by Samsung, with 35.4 million shipments in 2018. With that, Samsung saw its market share grow from 23.6 to 25.8 over the period of 2017-2018. Other players in the top 5 were Vivo, Oppo, and Micromax respectively.

The Indian Smartphone Market In 2019

India has become Xiaomi’s biggest market worldwide, bigger than China which is the home country of Xiaomi. In the fourth quarter of 2018, it shipped 9.4 million smartphones to China, and 10 million to India. Despite the global smartphone market decline of sales last year, the Indian smartphone market stayed unfazed, even managed to grow significantly in the time period. More growth is expected in 2019 for the Indian smartphone market.

Canalys also expects that with the announcements of the Budget 2019 taken into consideration, more growth will be on the horizon as the disposable income will increase. According to the report, India now has 10% of the world’s smartphone market, up from 6% five years ago. It is one of the 6 markets out of the top 20 which saw positive full-term growth.

  • Essential’s Next Phone To Have Camera Under The Display

Essential’s Next Phone To Have Camera Under The Display

The Essential PH-1 was launched back in 2017. The phone was met with a lot of hype, particularly because the device promised Android the way it was meant to be. The device lacked any bloatware and was promised constant security updates. But due to the high asking price and underwhelming camera performance, the device was a major flop. It didn’t help that the phone got a bad critic rating at launch. But it seems that the next smartphone the brand will make would be revolutionary. Drawings from Essential show what could be the front camera and the fingerprint sensor under the display.

Andy Rubin, the founder of Essential and Android, confirmed that the company will release a second smartphone soon. The smartphone may be called the Essential PH-2 as a mention of that was leaked on Reddit a few days ago. The device will be the second smartphone Essential will launch since its inception.

    Essential PH-2 Details

Not much is known about the Essential’s next smartphone, which could be called the PH-2. The drawings suggest that the camera will be placed just like it was in the original Essential PH-1. The difference this time will be that it would be present under the display. Plans in drawings suggest the Essential Phone PH-2 concept with a camera and light sensor is hidden behind the display which can become semitransparent on command. In the drawings, a fingerprint sensor is mentioned in the home button of the on-screen navigation buttons.

The PH-1 was one of the world’s first phones with a notch, and Essential managed to minimize that in its first attempt. There is no saying when the next version of the Essential Phone will hit the markets, but the company is expected to make a big announcement soon. Maybe Essential is planning something for the MWC 2019 that will be held later this month in Barcelona.

  • Top 5 Highly Anticipated Games To Look Out For This Quarter

Top 5 Highly Anticipated Games To Look Out For This Quarter

A lot of games released last year,  God of War, which took our breath away. And then, there were was Red Dead Redemption 2, a mountain of hype and adventure. Either way, good games will keep making their way into the gaming universe. But right now, we have our eyes peeled towards some amazing games this year. 2019 will see some really graphic intensive games release. Let’s have a look at what we think will be the best games for the first quarter of 2019.

    Far Cry New Dawn

If you’re a fan of open-world First person shooters, you have to know about one of Ubisoft’s most famous series, the Far Cry franchise. Far Cry New Dawn is the next spinoff in the lineup, and it focuses on more ‘Far Cry 1-3’ style gameplay than Blood dragon or Primal.

The game is set in the post-apocalyptic Hope County countryside. You’ll have to fight the Highwaymen Gang, who threaten your peaceful territory. The game has two evil twin sisters working with the gang, so you’ll face a lot of difficult scenarios. In a mad-max kind of scenario, it will bring together features from Far Cry 5, such as Warthogs and dogs. Is this Game of The Year Material? We’ll find out!

    Release Date: February 22, 2019
    Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC

    Anthem

If someone took Activision’s Destiny, and added an ‘Iron Man’ vibe to it, voila! You have Anthem, a game which does so much more than what Destiny did. It is a 4-person co-op shooter set in a huge sci-fi universe, where there are no limits to what you can do. With Javelin exosuits and a Mass Effect-style gameplay, you play as Freelancers.

Your primary motive is to destroy huge alien biomes, but that may be varied depending on how much fun you want to have with your friends. An interesting fact to note here is that Anthem is written by the guy who wrote Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. The demo was out for February 1 to 3 on PS4, Xbox, and PC. The game itself is releasing very soon.

    Release Date: February 22, 2019
    Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC

    Devil May Cry 5

Let’s get some facts straight. There are games that make you play the sequel. Then there are games that make you wait for that sequel for almost 10 years. Capcom is finally releasing Devil May Cry 5, and yes. It’s a continuation of the Devil May Cry 4, which came out in 2008.

The fate of Dante and Nero will reveal itself to us, finally! Not a lot of games have brought such an intense combination of characters and high-speed combat to the scene, and DMC is looking to redefine it. Also, Dante, with all his cockiness and attitude is all set to beguile you. Thankfully, the game is releasing on all 3 platforms, and we won’t have to wait very long for it now!

    Release Date: March 8, 2019
    Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC

    Metro: Exodus

Post-apocalyptic games and movies are the go-to scenarios for writers and developers, when it’s pertaining to anything related to an open-world outline. Metro: Exodus transports you to the destruction set in a modern civilization. You are a sole survivor, who has to brave harsh weather, nuclear storms and a lot more to get across Russia.

You have to search for supplies, hole through dark subway tunnels. And did we mention the gigantic mutated rats that will harass you throughout the journey? Not to miss out the massive radioactive bears that might surprise you? The game still manages to pull off a disturbingly beautiful look. On top of that, the recent controversy for releasing the game on Epic games and not steam brought discussion to the centre of the table. We sure hope that Metro: Exodus doesn’t disappoint.

    Release Date: February 15, 2019
    Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC

    Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

If you’ve played Tom Clancy’s The Division, you’ll probably know what we are talking about. Snow-laden streets. New York. Epidemics. Doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, but it was a huge success at the time of its launch. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of end-game content, so the hype quickly died out. Now, the determined developers at Ubisoft are ready to deliver another blow with The Division 2, the second game in the franchise.

Set in Washington DC, the game follows the same timeline as its prequel. It’s placed at almost 7 months after the events of the first game. The game has a ton of new features, including eight-player-raids, and a whole redefined game engine. Tom Clancy fans will love this, that’s for sure. But are you one of them?

The right side of the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro accommodate the power button and volume rockers while their bottom side is occupied by USB Type-C port, loudspeaker grill and main microphone pinhole. The visible difference between the two devices is the rear camera module alignment and number of sensors in it. The rear of the Huawei P30 has a triple camera setup below which sits a dual LED flash and dual microphones.

On the other hand, the rear camera setup of the Huawei P30 Pro consists of fours sensors. Also, the dual LED flash and dual microphones on the device are placed next to the protruding camera module which is unlike the P30.

Additionally, the cutouts at the bottom of the P30’s case indicate that the device will have a 3.5mm audio jack while the elder P30 Pro might skip this feature. The case maker’s website does not reveal any specifications of the smartphones. Fortunately, another source supplies this information as well.

    Specifications

According to leaks, the Huawei P30 Pro will be the world’s first smartphone to feature the Sony IMX607 sensor that has a 38 MP resolution and an f/1.8 aperture. The resolution of the other three camera sensors of the smartphone is yet unavailable. Both the P30 and the P30 Pro are likely to feature the 7 nm Kirin 980 SoC which is also present on the Mate 20 Pro.

In terms of memory and storage, the top end variant of both devices will be offered with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of ROM. Both devices are also expected to support nano SD card which is the company’s proprietary memory expansion format. The source claims that the elder P30 Pro will be powered by a mammoth 4,200 mAh battery while the P30 will pack a 3,400 mAh powerhouse.

OnePlus Sends Invites For An Exclusive Event At MWC

OnePlus has seen unprecedented success over the last few years. The primary reason for the success would be the brand’s ideology which, has been the same since the beginning. OnePlus has always delivered on its promise of a premium experience on a budget. And it seems like the company has some big plans going forward. OnePlus has sent out media invites for an event held within closed doors at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona.

The invite reads “Join OnePlus at Ultramarinos where drinks and a taste of the future will be on us. We’ll be celebrating MWC 2019 at this exclusive, invite-only event.” It is highly unlikely that OnePlus will launch something at the event. The event is expected to be rather just a discussion about what the future holds for OnePlus and smartphones. OnePlus has held similar events in the past, during MWC, and have usually been just networking events.

What Will OnePlus Showcase At The Event?

With the launch of a completely new device or product out of the window; OnePlus is expected to show something revolutionary at the event. Considering the exclusive invite and the cryptic message alongside it, there is definitely something the brand is trying to pull off. OnePlus announced in December that it will be among the first to use the Snapdragon 855. Maybe it is the new OnePlus device they will showcase, but that seems highly unlikely. OnePlus also promised a 5G device in 2019, so it may showcase that technology at the event.

OnePlus is expected to launch the next generation of its flagship in a few months. The device is said to have an all-new design and Snapdragon 855. Maybe the event is scheduled to give people a sneak peek of the device before its official launch. OnePlus is definitely planning something big that we may see in the coming months.
