Everything in the Lenovo K3 Note Makes it Better Than the Rest

Lenovo‘s offerings have been doing fairly well in the smartphone sector of the Indian market. The company recently claimed that it has sold more than 1 million 4G enabled smartphones in 2015 via Flipkart. Now, it is planning to launch their newest phablet in India later this month. Lenovo India has started sending out press releases for the launch of a new device on 25th June and it is highly possible that the device might turn out to be the 4G-capable Lenovo K3 Note, which was launched in China earlier this year.

    lenovo_india_note_invite

The Lenovo K3 Note flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080) IPS display and is powered by a 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6752 octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 2GB of RAM. It offers 16GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. The phablet also stars a 13MP snapper at the back with a LED flash, 5MP front camera and a 3,000mAh battery, which the company claims is good enough for 36 hours of talk time on 3G, and up to 750 hours in standby mode.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G support on both SIMs, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The phablet runs on Android Lollipop 5.0 out-of-the-box, wrapped under Lenovo Vibe 2.5 UI.

The device was launched in China earlier this year for a price tag of Rs 9,000 approximately. Hence, it is safe to say that the device will come well within the Rs 10,000 range.  The K3 Note will go against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G and the Yu Yureka. The device may also come in a variety of colour options.

  • Google’s Semi-Secret Facility Unveils a Health-Tracking Wristband

    Google’s Semi-Secret Facility Unveils a Health-Tracking Wristband

Rumour has it that Google X is currently working on an interesting wearable project. Google’s semi-secret workshop is one of the most innovation oriented institutions in the world. The research facility takes on some of the most fundamental questions on transportation, communication and others. Then, it takes an alternative bottom-up effort to understand them. The facility worked on concepts like Teleportation, Space elevators, and it is also the birthplace of projects like Google Glass, Driverless car and the upcoming Project Loon.

It is now developing a medical-grade wristband which will track health vitals such as heart-rate, pulse and skin-temperature on a “minute-by-minute” basis. The wristband will also measure external conditions such as room temperature and noise levels. The surprising thing is that Google won’t sell the device to general consumers, unlike Fitbit, which focuses on consumer wearables.

“Our intended use is for this to become a medical device that’s prescribed to patients or used for clinical trials,” said Andy Conrad, head of the life sciences team at Google, in an interview to Bloomberg. The device will allow doctors and medical researchers to keep track of a patient’s vitals outside the laboratory. Google wants the device to record accurate data, a function which can’t be expected from consumer-grade fitness wearables. The wristwatch can also make the research process more efficient, since the data collected from the patients can be easily organised and analysed.

Google X, the secret research wing of Google, is developing the wristwatch. The company will invite researchers and drug companies to test the device’s accuracy. The trial will start over summer, the company’s spokeswoman said.

We Now Have a New Spider Man

Actor Tom Holland has a great responsibility. Today, Marvel announced that Holland will play the next “Spider Man” in Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 19 year old Brit is the third actor to portray the web-slinging superhero, after Tobey Maguire (2002-2007) and Andrew Garfield (2012-2014).

Holland was chosen after a rigorous audition process and was on the shortlist for a long time. According to reports, he was chosen among 1,500 boys from all around the world.

Holland will portray the superhero in Captain America : Civil War next year before starring in the new Spider Man movie in 2017. The new movie will be directed by Jon Watts. Tom Holland was previously seen in the Oscar-nominated film The Impossible.

  • Excited About Gmail’s ‘Undo Send’ Feature? Then You Should Check Out Sidekick

Excited About Gmail’s ‘Undo Send’ Feature? Then You Should Check Out Sidekick

Gmail has just rolled out, perhaps, the most useful update. Yes, we’re talking about the ‘Undo Send’ feature. Google had been working on this feature for the past six years, and the work is now an official setting in the Gmail interface. As the name suggests, Undo Send pauses posting your email for a few seconds after you click Send, so you can take it back if you, for example, spell someone’s name wrong. When it started in 2009, Undo Send would pause sending your emails for five seconds, but now, it lets users choose if they want to retain their mail for 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds.

    Gmail Undo Send

But, when you send an urgent email to someone, how do you know whether they have opened the mail or not? For example, when you are applying for a job, sending an email to a valued company, knowing when it is opened is necessary information. If you want to really control your email, Sidekick is what you should check out.

Sidekick is developed by HubSpot, a software company formed by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006. This app is installed as a Chrome extension and can be accessed using your Gmail account. But don’t worry; Sidekick can also be accessed by Outlook desktop, Apple Mail and Outlook.com.

But, you should also know that Sidekick could be used against you. The next time you say, “I didn’t see that email,” when you actually have opened it, the sender may have proof that your statement just isn’t true.

Here’s everything this nifty addition can do:

To get started with Sidekick, you need to create a free account here. You can also login using your Google account, which is a convenient sign-up process. After that, you can install Sidekick Chrome extension from here.

Once everything is configured, Sidekick will take up the responsibility to track down which of your emails have been opened and which remain unopened. To make things more amazing, Sidekick also keeps track whether links inside the mail have been clicked on or not. You also have the option to ‘untrack’ any email too.

    sidekick

Sidekick can also show you the information of people to whom you are sending a mail. When you receive an email, the Sidekick sidebar will show you your email history, links to their social media accounts and information about their company if the email was sent from a business account.

    Sidekick-dashboard

But, the newest feature of this app is the Scheduling option. This is a gift especially for people who live in different time zones. After you have composed a mail, you will see an option to schedule the mail to whatever time fits you. Awesome, right?

    Schedule-Gmail-email

Sidekick also has free iOS and Android apps, which let you track everything from your smartphone. Although the scheduling feature is yet to come out with the mobile version.

Sidekick is free for unlimited tracking the first month you register. After that, you get 200 free tracks per month. If you find that you want unrestricted tracks, you can pay a monthly fee of $10.

It is great that slowly, many mail apps are coming up that give users the power to monitor and control emails as per their convenience.

Watch the video below to get a better idea about how Sidekick is helpful.

  • OnePlus Embraces the Future, Announces OnePlus 2 Will Use USB Type-C

OnePlus Embraces the Future, Announces OnePlus 2 Will Use USB Type-C

OnePlus has been building anticipation about its new smartphone, OnePlus Two, for quite a few weeks. Earlier this week, we reported that OnePlus Two will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor, allowing the phone to function faster. Today, the company announced in a tweet that OnePlus Two will use Type-C USB port.

OnePlus Two will become the first flagship phone from a mainstream company to use Type-C USB port. However, OnePlus is not the first company to incorporate the Type-C USB port in its phone – the title goes to LeTV’s One Max. We were expecting Apple, which is currently working on the iPhone 6s, to incorporate it in its next smartphone.

In March, Apple announced that the MacBook will use a single Type-C USB port. Google also accommodated the support for Type-C in the second Chrombook Pixel.

    Apple Macbook 4
The latest Apple MacBook incorporates only a USB Type C Port

The USB-C connector is one reversible port that takes care of power, data transfers, and display output. It is slim and compatible with almost every device with standard USB ports. This relieves customers of four or six connecting ports that demand your system’s space and gives manufacturers freedom to trim down the size of machines and, hence, weight. A USB-C connector is the one standard solution to asymmetrical USB jacks, except for audio. It’s convenient to use and has the potential to replace all jacks.

This announcement by OnePlus is a latest addition to what we already know about OnePlus Two – that it is priced at around Rs. 25, 000 and will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor, making the phone capable of streaming 4K Ultra HD videos and more. The company is expected to announce the launch date for the phone soon.

  • Rumours Suggest, Apple Plans to Remove the Home Button on its iPhone

Rumours Suggest, Apple Plans to Remove the Home Button on its iPhone

Apple is reportedly working on an iPhone design that will remove the iconic home button. A recent post on the website, AppleInsider, claims that the company is planning to replace the home button with a virtual one. The website also claims that the redesign wouldn’t take place for at least two years and may not be seen in the next version of the iPhone.

    Touch-ID-in-action

Apple has made Touch ID, its fingerprint recognition feature, available on every device launched since iPhone 5s. The company has integrated Touch ID onto many of its services and is developing more uses for it. As a result, it will not ditch the feature in favour of a virtual home button, just yet.

To make the virtual home button possible, Apple is working on integrating Touch ID into the iPhone’s display. According to AppleInsider, patents have been filed which would allow people to scan their fingerprints on the display itself. If the company is successful in integrating Touch ID onto the display, the home button could be replaced by an on-screen button. Until then, Apple’s plan of having a virtual home button remains long-term.

  • Microsoft Again Clarifies About Who Gets Windows 10 for Free

Microsoft Again Clarifies About Who Gets Windows 10 for Free

A few days ago, Microsoft declared that anyone who has signed up and installed the preview version of Windows 10 would get a free upgrade. It seemed an easy way out for those who were using the pirated or non-genuine versions of Windows XP/Vista/7/8.1. In a recent blog post, Microsoft has clarified that the method is not as simple as it seems.

According to Microsoft’s Gabe Aul, those who have installed the Windows 10 preview will get a free copy, as long as they keep receiving the pre-release updates. “Since we’re continuing the Windows Insider Program you’ll be able to continue receiving builds and those builds will continue to be activated under the terms of the Windows Insider Program,” Gabe wrote in the blog post.

    Tech-Preview_Start-menu

If a user installs the preview version, upgrades to the final version on July 29th and then opts-out of pre-release updates, he/she will not receive the free copy. According to Microsoft, the preview build will expire without the updates. The user then either has to buy a new license to keep the build or roll back to the previous OS version. “This is not a path to attain a license for Windows XP or Windows Vista systems,” Gabe wrote.

Genuine Windows 7 or 8.1 users will still receive a Windows 10 free upgrade on July 29th.

    Average Internet Speed: 15.2Mbps

    #2 Hong Kong

Another Asian country on the list, Hong Kong is first and only country that broke the 60 Mbps barrier back in 2013. This is due to advances in FTTH (Fiber To The Home) infrastructure and aggressive high-speed pricing, which now seems to be paying off.

    Average Internet Speed: 16.8 Mbps

    #1 South Korea

South Korea is the undisputed champion when it comes to Internet speed. The Internet connection here is so fast that the country is about to unveil its 10Gbps Internet service soon. • Smartphone with a 10,000mAh Battery May Soon Be a Reality

Smartphone with a 10,000mAh Battery May Soon Be a Reality

These days, battery life is the most crucial aspect of a mobile phone. Sure, we were happy about the devices equipped with around 3,500 mAh battery packs, such as Lenovo P70, Lenovo A5000, Huawei Honor 6 Plus and Acer Liquid E700. We were impressed since these phones could survive more than a whole day’s use.

But, what if you get a chance to trade a few phone features for an extra dollop of battery life?

    ml-1

Yes, this feature may soon come very true. Rumours suggest that Chinese phone company, Oukitel, is currently working on a smartphone model with a battery pack that holds a substantial power of 10,000 mAh. Here’s the best part – it’s been said that the smartphone may even last an entire week of usage.

The phone has been leaked, and these pictures are all we have got for now.

    Oukitel-Smartphone

From the images, it seems that the new Oukitel device is a work in progress, and there has not been official approval yet from the company. But it would be great for many people to have the choice of a bulkier, longer-lasting device.

Till the phone becomes a reality, users will still have to settle with using portable external battery packs that give their devices a few extra hours to live.

This Device Uses the Sense of Taste to Help the Blind See

FDA has approved a new device that allows blind people to “see” through their tongues. Developed by Wicab, the Brainport V100 translates the information captured by a digital video camera into electric patterns, which is then stimulated on the tongue. According to Wicab, users will feel “moving bubble-like patterns on their tongue which they learn to interpret as the shape, size, location and motion of objects in their environment”.

The Brainport V100 uses a digital camera mounted on a pair of sunglasses and is connected with a tongue array. The array translates the pixels from the camera, which is then interpreted by the user. The device is controlled by a small hand-held unit. The unit also acts as a rechargeable battery, with duration up to 3 hours on a single charge.

Watch the device in action below:

FDA’s approval means that Wicab can now sell the Brainport in the United States of America. The company has been selling the product in Europe since 2013. Hopefully, the device finds its way in India too, which can help an estimated 15 million people suffering from blindness.

The images, which were posted by a Google+ user, Nao Lee, have been said to come from “a Chinese digital forum.” The images show the front and the back of the device, which looks similar to the previous versions of Moto G. The phone identifies itself as “XT1453” and runs on Android 5.1.1.

    21 - 4

The video, which has since been removed, showed the specifications of the phone. According to the video, Moto G3 is similar to Moto G (2nd Generation). Moto G3 will run on Snapdragon 410 processor, an improvement from the Snapdragon 400 processor. The camera has also been upgraded. Moto G3 will now sport a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera, a vast improvement from 8 and 2 megapixel rear and front camera. As for the rest, the new phone will sport a 5-inch display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, LTE, and a microSD slot, same as Moto G (2nd Gen). This contradicts the early rumours about Moto G3 running on a 64-bit 1.7GHz Snapdragon 610 SoC along with 2GB of RAM.While the Moto G (Gen 2) was a vast improvement over its predecessor, that might not be the case with Moto G (Gen 3). It is to be noted that Motorola is yet to officially announce the specifications and the phone may turn out to a be a far superior product than expected.

  • What We Can Learn From the Taylor Swift-Apple Controversy

What We Can Learn From the Taylor Swift-Apple Controversy

Taylor Swift is currently one of the biggest music icons in the world, as evident from the fact that her last album sold more than four million copies worldwide and in all, she has won seven Grammy awards and 22 Billboard awards. So, it matters when one of the most influential music artists in the world says she has a problem with Apple Music, the new streaming service launched by Apple.

In her recent open letter to Apple, Swift explains why she would hold back her new album, 1989, from Apple Music. She wrote, “Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.”

Swift’s open letter points to the statement given by Apple executive Robert Kondrk, who said that the company won’t pay the artists during the three month trial period. The company would later make it up to the artists by paying them higher amounts than its rival, Spotify. A few hours after Swift’s open later was published, Apple VP, Eddy Cue tweeted that the artists will be paid during the three month trial period, which Swift positively responded to.

Swift’s concern is in a right place. Most people nowadays want to access media without paying, which leaves services like Spotify and YouTube with no other option but to provide free streaming with advertisements. As a result, streaming generates less royalties than a CD sale or digital download would’ve generated.

Apple won’t pay the artists during the three month trial period of Apple Music

Although streaming would not affect the music sales of Swift or the likes, as she points out, it is “about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success..about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt.. but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs”.

Artists depend on the royalties generated from the sale of CDs and downloads. Their only source of income get affected due to the amount of money generated from streaming. Hence, artists and record labels are pushing for subscription based music services, which they believe will be more stable when it comes to generating royalties.

This is not the first time artists have spoken out against the streaming services. Recently, rapper Jay-Z launched his own streaming service, Tidal, which is said to be the first artist-owned streaming service. He criticized YouTube and Spotify for not giving enough money to the artists. In November 2014, Swift removed all of her old albums from Spotify over the issue of royalties.

Apple’s recent move is a temporary resolve, since it is in a position to pay the artists during the trial period. The success of Apple Music will be determined when people actually subscribe. To keep the music industry alive, a model has to be devised which would allow people to pay reasonable rates and at the same time allow artists to earn fair royalties in return. Higher rates can lead to piracy, which would again affect the artists. An effort has to be made to persuade people to subscribe to music services and support the artists. Till such things happen, artists have to speak out.

We like how Taylor Swift put it  – “We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.”

  • This Might be the Easiest Way to Tell Your Friends You’re ‘Free’ to Hang Out

This Might be the Easiest Way to Tell Your Friends You’re ‘Free’ to Hang Out

On an odd Friday night, when you decide you’d rather spend the night in, you want some company to watch a movie or grab a quiet meal. What do you do? You don’t want to spam the handful of close buddies who might already have their plans set for the evening. Nor can you put up a status on a social networking site, lest a creepy acquaintance accepts your invitation and lands up to your door.

Well, here is a solution to that: the ‘Free’ App. This app shows you a list of your friends who are free. It will allow you to share your availability to coordinate easily and make plans with friends. Developed by Danny Trinh, a former lead designer at Path, a social app, he explains:

With smartphones, we’re more connected than ever—there’s Gchat, WeChat, Snapchat, Facebook Messenger, and more—but as connection has become the default, we’ve lost ways to announce, “I’m up to hang.” In a world where everyone’s online all the time, what’s the actual availability signal on top of that? That’s what we’re trying to build. Put another way, now that we carry chat on us at all times, the green dot is assumed.

Once downloaded, the app asks you to enter your number, register an account and provide your name, a username and your email address. You can set up your photo and use a given list of filters. The app then syncs your contacts.

You can let your friends, who might be nearby at that time, know that you are ready to go out (green), flexible (yellow) or busy at that moment (red).  However, for the app to work, you must enable location services on your phone. You can also attach a message, tag friends you are with and select a place and time, just like Facebook. Once you set up your first status, you have the option to choose which buddies to send it to and for how long they can see the message or status. These statuses go into Free’s feed that you can quickly flick through to all your friends’ plans, and disappear the next morning.

    press-phone

True, there are so many social networking apps right now, like Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. But the reason Free might win is that it cuts out the clutter to focus back on in-person communication. For now, the app is available only for iOS devices.
