A fresh listing of an unreleased Asus smartphone has been spotted on the popular benchmarking website, Geekbench; which is alleged to be of the ZenFone 6. • Xiaomi POCO F1 Lite Spotted On Geekbench With 4GB Of RAM

Xiaomi POCO F1 Lite Spotted On Geekbench With 4GB Of RAM

Xiaomi launched the POCO F1 in the month of August last year. The budget flagship smartphone was well received because of its top of the line specifications and an affordable price. Fresh leaks have revealed that the company may be planning to launch a specced down version of the device. Geekbench listing of an unreleased smartphone, the Xiaomi POCO F1 Lite has leaked which confirms most of its specifications.

Even though the Head of Pocophone Global, Alvin Tse replied to iGyaan’s tweet saying that he is not aware of a Lite version, evidence suggests otherwise, as the Geekbench listing explicitly lists the name of the device as the POCO F1 Lite.

    Xiaomi POCO F1 Lite

The POCO F1 Lite will be the next smartphone from the sub-brand of Xiaomi. While the specifications of the device have been leaked, there is no information about its physical appearance. However, it is expected to feature a similar design language to its elder sibling, which has a polycarbonate body and a wide notch on top of the display. The listing reveals that the smartphone will have a Snapdragon 660 SoC which is manufactured using 14nm fabrication process. The chipset is comprised of an Octa-core CPU and the Adreno 512 GPU. Interestingly, the same processor can be found on the company’s newly launched Redmi Note 7. The POCO F1 Lite has been mentioned to have 4GB of RAM, but there may be a variant with a higher RAM capacity as well.

The listing claims the CPU of the POCO F1 Lite has a clock speed of 1.61GHz which is lower than the Redmi Note 7’s base clock speed of 1.8GHz. Therefore, the underclocked speed is assumed to result in lower performance than the latter. Also, Xiaomi can tune the clock speed of the Poco F1 Lite before its official launch. This smartphone registers a single core score of 1619 and a multi-core score of 5138 on the same platform.

Notably, another smartphone from Xiaomi has also been leaked on Geekbench. Codenamed the Xiaomi Uranus, it features similar specifications to the leaked POCO F1 Lite. It may be possible that this is the same device which will be released under a different name in certain markets across the world.

  • Google Pixel 2 Spotted Running Android Q Beta On Geekbench

Google Pixel 2 Spotted Running Android Q Beta On Geekbench

Mountain View, California based Google is soon expected to release the first Android Q beta for Pixel smartphones. Before its official rollout,  a Google Pixel 2 smartphone running the aforementioned version of Android has been spotted on Geekbench. The device secures a single core score of 1856 points and a multi-core score of 6307 points which is comparable to a device running Android 9 Pie.

Although Google has not yet confirmed the date of the rollout, the listing indicates that the update will be dispensed soon. Last year, the company released the first Android P developer preview for Pixel smartphones on the 7th of March. For at least a few weeks, the developer preview will only be exclusive for Google Pixel smartphones which will later be followed by devices of other OEMs. Notably, a Google executive in a podcast announced that updates of Android Q public beta will be rolled to several other devices as well.

What Features Will Android Q Bring To The Table?

With every Android update, Google strives to make the mobile OS smooth and bug-free. Therefore, the first and foremost change with Android Q will be speed and performance optimisation. A notable feature, that Android Q is confirmed to bring is system-wide dark mode. This feature will especially be useful for users of smartphones with an OLED display as it will prolong the battery life of the device. Other possible features that the upcoming Android update is believed to improve or add are as follows:

    • Inbuilt Screen Recording Support – As the name suggests, it allows the user to record the media or games that are being displayed on the screen. With the surge in mobile games streaming, this feature has been in high demand. Although this feature could have been added to any Android device running versions below Android Q with the help of 3rd party applications, an inbuilt screen recorded would surely be appreciated.
    • Desktop Mode – This feature will allow the user to project the display the contents of their Android device on a large screen. Hence, an Android device could be used as a desktop computer. Companies including Samsung and Huawei in the past have included a similar feature on their Android devices. However, the integration of this feature on a deeper level will result in better performance. Also, it will end the exclusivity which the users of a handful of companies are able to enjoy.
    • Improved Facial Recognition – Facial recognition is not a new feature that Android Q will bring. However, the latest update will further enhance the feature so that it is faster and more secure than before.

Other features of the Android Q will only be revealed once Google officially lifts the curtains off its latest software offering.

  • Google Pixel 3A Spotted On Geekbench

Google Pixel 3A Spotted On Geekbench

Google Pixel is a range of consumer electronic devices developed by Google that run either Android or Chrome operating system. Late last year, the company launched its third iterations of the Pixel smartphones in the form of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Soon after the launch of the devices, the internet was flooded with news about affordable variants of the same. Previously a hands-on video of an unreleased Google device, allegedly the Pixel 3 Lite was exposed online. Unfortunately, that device has not seen the light of the day till now. Another low specced variant of the Google Pixel 3, the Pixel 3A has been spotted on Geekbench revealing its key specifications.

    Google Pixel 3A Specifications

The Geekbench listing was first uploaded on 10 February and it clearly specifies the name of the device which is Google Pixel 3A. The device packs the ‘MSM8953’ SoC which is the codename for Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. The chipset comprises of an Adreno 506 GPU and an Octa-Core CPU which has the base frequency of 1.8 GHz.

In terms of memory, the Google Pixel 3A has 2 GB of RAM which is likely to be paired with 32 GB or 64 GB of inbuilt storage. Like past Pixel smartphones, the upcoming device is also assumed to miss out on the option for memory expansion via an external card. Noteworthy, the Google Pixel 3A gets a single-core score of 732 points and a multi-core score of 3184 points.  Although the scores of the upcoming Google device seem unimpressive, it is noteworthy that Pixel smartphones run on vanilla Android and have no bloatware applications installed. Therefore, the device can work well in terms of real-world performance.

Going by the specifications of the device, it is expected to be priced between the US $ 300-400 price bracket.

  • Antutu Releases AI (Artificial Intelligence) Benchmarking Tool

Antutu Releases AI (Artificial Intelligence) Benchmarking Tool

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming popular by each day. More and more companies are trying to offer some or the other AI centric feature in their smartphones. Antutu, the popular benchmarking tool to test the performance of a device, has released a new app called Antutu AI Review, which is meant to differentiate the AI performance of a device by giving it a score.

Antutu, in its blog post mentioned “In order to let everyone have an intuitive judgment on the AI ??performance of their mobile phones, Ann Bunny officially released the Antutu AI Review public beta, providing a quantifiable standard for everyone to judge the difference in AI performance of different platforms.”

Due to there being a difference in what AI means for different SoC makers, Antutu AI Review has tried to establish a unified standard for testing through cooperation with the above manufacturers. The test is divided into two sub-items, namely image classification and object recognition.Among them, the image classification is based on the Inception v3 neural network, the test data is 200 pictures; and the object recognition is based on the mobilenet ssd neural network, the test data is a 600-frame video. The final score is calculated based off accuracy and speed. The higher the both, the higher is the final score.

There is a catch however, if the speed is high but the accuracy of the image recognition isn’t, the benchmark will give a lower score. This is to prevent cheating as the device won’t be able to ramp up the speed and give wrong answers to get a higher score.

The AI Benchmarking tool by Antutu seems like a good idea at the right time as the war for AI is heating up and it would be interesting to see which companies are serious about it and what are just providing them as a gimmick. The app is available to beta test as an APK file and will be released for public soon.

  • Samsung Galaxy S9+ Benchmark Scores Leaked

Samsung Galaxy S9+ Benchmark Scores Leaked

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are expected to be launched at MWC 2018 or at a special event in March. While there have been plenty of rumours of about the fingerprint sensor placement or what the camera setup will be like on both the devices, it is certain that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. A new leak has revealed that benchmark scores of the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and they look impressive.

The model number in the Benchmark results is SM-G965U1, which corresponds to the larger S9 model just as the Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S7 edge both had model numbers that ended in “5”. The single-core score gets a commendable 27% bump over the Snapdragon 835’ while the multicore score gets is 31% higher than that of the Snapdragon 835. While the numbers are impressive when compared to Snapdragon 835, the A11 bionic chip is way ahead of the competition.

As is visible, the device in question here has the Snapdragon 845 chipset and similar to what happened in early-2017, Samsung will have exclusive access to the early batch of the flagship chipset thanks to its agreement with Qualcomm. This means that the LG G7, like its predecessor, will be powered by a year old chip, the Snapdragon 835.

The RAM shown in the spec sheet is 5GB which means that the device in question here has 6GB of RAM as benchmark websites get the specifications wrong a number of occasions. Another interesting aspect here is the operating system. According to leak, the Galaxy S9+ will run Android 8.0 Oreo which is a positive, considering the company announced the Galaxy A8 and A8+ with Android 7.1.1 Nougat even though the devices will be launched in January.

    Galaxy S9+ Renders

If Samsung goes the Google Treble route, then the Galaxy phones might get faster updates compared to the umpteen amount of time that Samsung takes to update even its flagship phones. To put things into perspective, Android 8.0 Oreo was officially launched back in August, and the Galaxy Note8 along with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are still running Android 7 Nougat.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are expected to look very similar to their predecessors with slightly thinner bezels and a repositioned fingerprint sensor. Unlike last year when there was barely anything to differentiate between the Galaxy S8 and its bigger sibling, Samsung will introduce a few changes in the lineup to justify a bigger price tag of the ‘+’ model. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to sport a single camera at the back while the Galaxy S9+ will have a dual-camera setup at the back.

  • Moto Z with Snapdragon 835 Shows Up In Leaks

Moto Z with Snapdragon 835 Shows Up In Leaks

Moto might be planning a revision of the Moto Z with a faster and more competent chipset. Sporting a Snapdragon 835 the new Moto Z leaked on benchmarking site GeekBench scoring 6207 on the multicore benchmark.

The RAM remains the same at 4GB which may just mean that the processor is the only area seeing improvements. Moto could be refreshing the lineup to keep in trend with the constant new arrivals slated in the coming few months.

Smartphones running flagship hardware are expected from Samsung, LG , HTC and even Nokia around the time of MWC, and this might be an excellent time for Moto to refresh their hardware and show off their abilities.

This could also be a completely revamped Moto Z phone with the same identifier running completely refreshed hardware. For now just the benchmark will do.

  • Android 7.0 Nougat For OnePlus One and Android 7.1 to OnePlus Two and OnePlus 3 Soon

Android 7.0 Nougat For OnePlus One and Android 7.1 to OnePlus Two and OnePlus 3 Soon

The refresh cycles of OnePlus handsets have been poorly placed and the company has usually taken a long while to push Android updates to their devices. However, that may change with the Nougat release.

Benchmarking websites are recording data from the OnePlus One, OnePlus Two and OnePlus 3 with Android 7.0 and 7.1 Nougat installed.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, which is featured on the OnePlus One is considered to be not compatible with the Vulcan API required for Nougat. However, it could simply be a test install without the Vulcan Graphics API, or the company may be working on a final build for its users.

According to Geekbench, the OnePlus One gets a Single core score of 976 and a Multicore score of 2521 while on Android Nougat 7.0

    oneplus-1-android-nougat-759

The OnePlus Two on the other hand was found running both Android 7.0 and Android 7.1 scoring 1168 on Single core on Android 7.0 and a score of 715 on Single Core on Android 7.1, while multicore ranges from 2922 on 7.0 to 2694 on 7.1. Meaning that the Android 7.1 build is not very stable and possibly is still being worked on.

OnePlus 3 is showing an impressive score while on Android 7.1 for Single-core reaches 1747 and a score of 4007 for Multi-core.

    oneplus-3-android-7-1

The push update for the OnePlus Two with Nougat could be bundled with the OTA update said to enable VoLTE on the handset. The company may also enable the support for OnePlus X and OnePlus One, but no official word for that has been given out.

The OnePlus 3 may be phased out for an intermittent handset called the OnePlus 3T which will be designed around a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset and will launch in December.

Apple iPhone 7 Rips the Antutu Benchmark with a Score of 178,397

Apple iPhone 7 will start shipping out to waiting customers on the 16th of this month. However benchmarks and performance reports have started to pile in, possibly thanks to review devices.

iphone-7-antutuThe iPhone 7 recently popped up on Antutu with a score of a whopping 178,397, which puts its underrated 2 gB of ram and Apple Proprietary A10 Fusion chip leaps and bounds ahead of the Snapdragon 820 paired with 6 GB of RAM and the top Android device score of 140288 on the OnePlus 3.

    top-android-phones

The iPhone 7 plus which is sad to have 3 GB of RAM is expected to score a higher result. This basically demolishes all claims that you get the choice of better hardware with an Android device. If performance is what you are basically looking for then, the iPhone 7 takes the cake.

We should see more information pop up in the coming days, close to launch and after the 16th, especially, when the iPhone 7 gets taken apart.

LG G5 Specifications Revealed in Benchmark Test

As we approach closer and closer to February 21 where LG, among others, will unveil its flagship G5 smartphone, we will find a number of details in online that want fans to know everything about the device before it is unveiled.
