Foldable Moto Razr 2019 Leaked Images Show Packaging

The Moto Razr has been one of the most iconic mobile phones of the connected era. The touch screen smartphone paved the way for a candy bar only design, leaving other form factors far behind.

2019 is an interesting year as it has shown off a newer possibility for a display design, the foldable display smartphone. This new foldable display technology was first publicly launched by Samsung, followed swiftly by Huawei and many others.

This makes it the idea time for Motorola to show off their Foldable Moto Razr concept. The device will be based on a foldable plastic OLED panel that will allow the brand to retain the clamshell design of the original phone.

The device will also be packed with the Snapdragon 855 chipset along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The new leaked image also shows off the packaging of the phone and the display notch on the top of the screen. You can also partially see the hinge mechanism.

The image is not very high resolution and could possibly be a good quality render. However if Motorola is indeed working on a foldable Razr phone, this is pretty close to what it should look like.

The patent filings of the device are very close to the image now leaked. But it is still unclear if Motorola will proceed with launch after the recent issues with the Galaxy Fold.

Motorola will ideally add another screen on the front of the clamshell fold, which may be used for notifications or front facing selfies. However, the first generation Moto Razr may only have the one Foldable display, reserving the secondary display for the redesign in 2020.

  • Xiaomi’s Foldable Phone Will Launch Q2 For Half Price Of The Galaxy Fold

Xiaomi’s Foldable Phone Will Launch Q2 For Half Price Of The Galaxy Fold

Foldable phones are all the rage in 2019. And even before Samsung could show off their first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, many devices were teased and one was even on display at the CES 2019.

Xiaomi was one such company that released a video showcasing their version of the foldable phone. Xiaomi not only showed off a working prototype of the device but also showed that the phone worked well and was relatively easy to use and fold up.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold became the first device to be launched by the electronics giant, and with that, the company officially opened the market to potential competition. Samsung’s foldable phone was soon followed by Huawei Mate X which also showed a new falcon wing design and a more premium price bracket. Samsung wants to retail the Galaxy Fold for US$ 1980 while Huawei Mate X was launched for US$ 2600.

Investors in Xiaomi’s supply chain reveal that the Chinese electronics company will launch their foldable phone as soon as the end of April or early June. Xiaomi will hold a separate event in China which will be a global launch of the product followed by several localised launches in its important markets.

Our source also reveals that Xiaomi plans to sell the Foldable device at a US$ 999 price mark. Which will make it the cheapest foldable smartphone. Xiaomi will also bring the phone to Europe for €999 and to India for Rs.74999.

If Xiaomi manages to launch the Foldable Mi device at such an aggressive price it will surely be able to gather some attention for the product.

Part of the reason Xiaomi will manage this low pricing is the display. While Samsung and Huawei are using higher quality OLED panels manufactured by Samsung and BOE display. Xiaomi will use Visionox Technology OLED displays. Visionox has developed the foldable displays as per Xiaomi’s requirements. Xiaomi has also funded development and manufacturing resource infrastructure costs for Visionox Technology to be able to develop this display. The company recently filed a patent for the foldable display.

If Xiaomi manages to launch the Mi Fold / Flex at the above price, it will surely generate enough excitement to warrant sales for the phone. The smartphone will continue to have flagship specifications including the Snapdragon 855 chipset and 8GB to 10GB of RAM.

  • Huawei Will Launch A Foldable 5G Smartphone At MWC 2019

Huawei Will Launch A Foldable 5G Smartphone At MWC 2019

The dates of MWC 2019 (Mobile World Congress) are nearing and Huawei has announced that it will launch a foldable smartphone with 5G compatibility at the upcoming MWC event next month. Samsung has also announced that it will launch a foldable phone and a 5G compatible phone at the upcoming event, but these features are likely to be seen on two seperate devices. Therefore, Huawei might become the first company in the world to offer both bleeding edge technologies on a single smartphone. Except for Huawei and Samsung, Xiaomi will also launch the 5G compatible Mi Mix 3 smartphone next month.

    What is 5G?

5G is the newest generation of cellular mobile communication which succeeds 4G, 3G and 2G.  It aims to provide higher data rates, reduction in cost, energy saving, and an even larger connectivity network compared to its predecessors. Theoretically, the 5G compatible device can reach a data transfer speed of up to 20 GBPS which is several folds faster than the current standards. The technology is currently under rapid development and a lot is expected from it in the coming years.

    Foldable Huawei Smartphone Expectations

Huawei has not yet enlightened the consumers about a foldable smartphone but a past investor meeting revealed some key details what can be expected from a foldable Huawei smartphone.  Reportedly, the company is working on a foldable phone that folds inwards like the Galaxy F. It is expected to have a smaller size screen on the outside while the large tablet sized screen is concealed behind its folding mechanism.

Supposedly the primary display of the foldable 5G measures 5-inch and the larger tablet-sized display measures 8-inch. Not many details about the foldable Huawei phone except for these are currently available. Luckily we won’t have to wait for long as MWC is scheduled for 25-29 Februay and the company will clarify all the doubts regarding the same.

  • The iPhone of the Future Could Fold According to Apple’s Latest Patent

The iPhone of the Future Could Fold According to Apple’s Latest Patent

Apple has just been awarded a patent for anew device which the patent application defines as an iPhone. According to the patent  Apple is researching foldable iPhone designs starting from back in 2013. This patent was filed in August and awarded today shows a new design iPhone which will look identical to the current iPhone when folded, but will unfold into a larger display device.

The patent application uses the words “carbon nanotubes” to define the mechanism that will hold the bendy iPhone together.

Conductive carbon nanotube paths can form signal paths that are flexible and resistant to cracking. The carbon nanotube structures may be incorporated into signal cables such as flexible printed circuit cables, rigid printed circuit boards, printed circuits that include rigid portions with flexible tails (sometimes referred to as “rigid flex”), portions of display structures, portions of touch sensors such as capacitive touch sensor arrays for displays or track pads, camera structures, antenna structures, housing structures, internal device structures, electrical components, substrates, brackets, housing walls, other structures, or combinations of these structures.

The application also mentions that the structure may have a hinge or a bendable joint. The iPhone of the patent may never come into play or could simply be the next iPhone of 2017.

Samsung too has been showing off bendable screens for a while and did showcase a bendable screen last year that could potentially become a smartphone of the future. Samsung patents range from various devices to various display and bend technology types and can be seen here.

  • Samsung’s Folding Galaxy X May Spark the Revolution that Smartphones Need

Samsung’s Folding Galaxy X May Spark the Revolution that Smartphones Need

It is no secret that Samsung is working on a smartphone with a foldable display which it will launch in 2017. The Galaxy X is the name chosen for this phone, which will juggle between a large and a small display unit without any major damage to the smartphone mechanism.

Manufacturing as a whole tends to stay away from moving parts in mobile handsets and portable devices. The more you knock these around the more prone to damage they become. Even most modern laptop hinges succumb to the weight of opening and closing several times a day. Samsung, however, claims that their new technology will not only revolutionize the smartphone segment but all segments on the way up to foldable television display that could be tucked away while not in use.

Samsung is expected to launch 5 handsets next year which will tie in with their flagship segment. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge, the Galaxy Note 7 and Note 7 Edge and the Galaxy X which will give the edge a new name.

Why fold a smartphone you would ask? A foldable display could mean the ability to carry a large phone/tablet without needing a lot of room to. The large screen would fold and fit in the pocket easily and will also remove the need for a secondary “tablet”.

While Samsung is always switching up their launch times, the exact launch period of the “Galaxy X” is unknown. But if it does launch in 2017, the industry may soon rush to catch up. On the flipside it could end up being one of these: and literally no one will care.
